Thank you, Netgalley for allowing me to review this title (I am very behind). I didn't dislike this book, it was actually very interesting; I was just expecting something else - possibly more about interiors in general (cozy vs science), but the description does state science, so that's a me problem. The chapter about living in space almost made my head explode.

Although some chapters, such as the chapter on prisons seem to meander with no point and other chapters such as the chapter on building against natural disasters drip with incoorect assumptions and political correctness, this book is an engaging look at ways we can make our inside environments, healthier and to make them work better for ourselves. I just wish that perhaps it would have had more practical suggestions and less theoretical and experimental stuff.

This does what any good non fiction book should do and makes it hard for you to look at your world in the same way again.

What a fascinating book! The design of a building has consequences on productivity at a place of business. But the right design of a hospital room has amazing positive effects on preemies!
I am glad I came across this book and this author. I look forward to reading other books written by her.

A fascinating book about the microbiome that exists inside your home. During shelter-in-place orders, this is an especially relevant book, although I will admit to scanning over parts that began to give me a little anxiety (don’t really want to think about the bugs in my basement right now).

Reading this book at a time when I am stuck in with the coronavirus has given it new meaning. The consideration that Emily Anthes brings to the built environment is even more engrossing than when I requested to read this book. The way a building is configured is now of vital importance to me, the view from my window, the level of light. Simple things, like the temperature of a room, have new meaning for me due to this thought-provoking read.
