This biography of Gloria Steinem is well written and done so in a way, that presents the life of the notable feminist leader more as a story than a historical timeline. The life story of Steinem makes for a surprisingly enthralling read. Author Winifred Conkling has an easy to read style of writing, and she presents only the slightest bias towards the ideals of Steinem. I also though the quotes by the book’ subject presented at the start of each chapter was a creative way to communicate Gloria Steinem’s beliefs and the topic of each chapter. The book is an important read for young people, with its ability to communicate the struggle for equal rights of women in the past and its continuation in the present in a meaningful way.

Despite going to a women's university, I never really learned much about Gloria Steinem. I was intrigued to read this biography and learn more about Steinem's history and impact. I found the book was balanced and informative. I appreciate the emotionally narrative style the writer uses. She frames Steinem's life and decisions in a caring, thoughtful way.
I think this will be a great addition to our high school library collection.
