Note: This is the second book in a series and needs to be read as such, since it picks up where the first one left off and offers basically no backstory to catch a reader up.

While the first book in the series laid the foundation of the world and characters, this second one shoots off into an ever growing mystery and brings mounting tension just like it should.

Eliana's disappearance and the desire to discover more about her own past has Ulla driving off in search of the impossible—the Lost Bridge to the First City. When she arrives at the Omte tribe, she's not sure what to make of the Queen's inability to answer her questions, but another door opens as she runs across a strange man, who knew her mother and might be her father. Learning that her father supposedly is a part of the secret guard, which protects the mythical city, she's sent to Sweden to live with the guardians there and him. But Ulla has doubts behind the true intentions of her journey and soon finds herself deeper in secrets than is safe.

As in book one, this is an imagination packed world, which gently brushes against modern reality every now and then. The characters are easy to like or hate, and yet, others sit heavily in the gray zone, making it difficult to decipher what their true intentions are. Ulla grows with every book as she struggles not only to uncover more about her own past, but also to come to terms with it. She has a few true friends at her side as well as Pan, the obvious love interest. It's fun to cheer the characters on as they stumble over lie after lie, and discover all sorts of things about this intriguing world.

The plot thickens in this second book, just as it should. There were still a few paragraphs I grazed over, but all in all, it is an engaging read. The romance slides alongside the main plot, adding a little zest without overpowering the story line...which I appreciate. Still, it's a bit too obvious for my liking, although the awkward moments fit well to Ulla's age. The new characters weren't as easy to fall into in these pages, but then, book one excelled in this area and with the increasing tension and mystery, the new characters simply aren't getting the same love as Ulla, Pan and friends.

Fantasy friends who enjoy refreshing takes on fantasy worlds and rich world building are sure to enjoy this one.

The Morning Flower jumps right in where it left off in The Lost City. Pan and Ulla are headed out on a road trip to try and find out more information about where Eliana has gone, as well as still trying to find out more about Ulla’s background and parentage.

I liked the beginning of the book. It jumps right into things, and I liked Ulla and Pans interactions and little awkward flirtation while they were on this trip. But pretty quick we are right back to Merella, and the pace of the book slows down again.

I like Amanda Hockings writing, but with this book, much like the first one, it seems like there is a lot of unnecessary information being given, and it really makes the book drag by. And again like with the first book, there is pretty much no action going on for majority of the book until almost the end, where it starts to pick up again and then ends.

I liked the writing and the characters, but the story itself leaves a lot to be desired. There is not much to keep your interest while reading. It is very slow moving.

I find the world of the Trylle that Amanda Hocking has created fascinating, but I feel like we are just getting an information repeat from the first book. There are some new things learned, mostly in the last part of the book, but there is also a lot that was explained in the first book just being repeated.

The pace doesn’t really pick up until the second half of the book and just as it starts to get really good, it ends.

Overall, there were aspects that I liked, but it was a very slow paced read like the first book.
I wish there had been more going on to keep the interest alive while reading.

*My review will be post to my blog closer to the release date, August 4’th.*

* I was provided an arc by NetGalley in exchange for a review*

I was so incredibly excited to be approved for the second book and it absolutely did not disappoint. Ulla and Pan are on their journey, searching for Eliana and The First City, and are making quite the progress. I love their interactions, and those with both old and new characters. There’s something about how the author writes those interactions that just feels very authentic to me. It’s a very entertaining story, and honestly I didn’t want to put it down because I’m completely engrossed in their tale. Great job with this second part. Definitely cannot wait for the third book.

Upon finishing part one, I was excited to sink into the next part, which picks up right where things left off with Pan and Ulla on the road to finding answers. Oh and those answers, I won't give any spoilers but man oh man, I didn't most of that coming.

I loved the unfolding of the plot as each new truth or lie, leads to the next and I, much like Ulla, had no idea who to trust or believe. Well, except Pan, who I simply adore. As an aside, the relationship between them feels so natural and right. I love that it isn't the central focus but it adds so much to the story.

In this part some new and old faces made things interesting, adding yet even more layers to how much I love this world - Eliana - She's so unique, what's not love about her? Jem - not sure about him, but he sounds like my cup of tea. ;)

I also felt more grounded in the in and outs of the trolls and how they felt about themselves and each other, which helped me to hang onto the new information revealed about 'others.' There is a beautiful complexity to this world, yet it's not confusing, even for someone like me who has no experience with the worlds created from Amanda Hocking that this series spun off from.

That ending!! Yes, yes, more please. I'm eagerly awaiting the final part. I highly recommend this series.

I would say that overall this book did what the 2nd book in any trilogy needs to do. It developed the characters more in order to set up for the conclusion in the third book. That being said, it did take a while for anything to really happen in this book, so it took me a bit longer to read than the first one. Then all of a sudden things start to really get going and the book just....ends. I actually had to double check that I didn't miss a chapter at the end. I wish there had been a more logical stopping point instead of the story just ending.

In summary, if you liked the first one, you will like this one. Can't wait for the 3rd book to come out so I can finally figure out what happens!

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press (Wednesday Books) for the ARC to read early and review!

I’d like to thank Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say book two was so much more than I hoped for. After reading the first book in this series I was left with so many questions and I wasn’t quite sure what I thought of it. This book helped to clear up who Ulla is and where she came from.

I really enjoyed this book and it didn’t feel like a struggle to pick up like the first book. I saw a lot more of character development in this book and you could really start to like the characters and care about them. There was more action that went at a pretty good pace. There is still the hint of a love triangle so I can’t await to see his that plays out in book three.

Overall, I am glad I stuck with it and can’t wait for the next book.

As I didn't really enjoy The Lost City, I'm not sure when I will pick The Morning Flower up. I plan to update my review when/if I do.

If you enjoyed Amanda Hocking's previous work then you will enjoy this series.

I adore the beautiful covers!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press/Wednesday Books for the privilege to read and review this series.

This book was much better in the series and has grown on me for sure. It was a lot more enjoyable and fun. The romance was awkward but enjoyable. The main characters grew more for me in this book, so that’s a plus. The new characters introduced in this book weren’t my favorite tho and were slightly annoying. That being said, overall, this book improved the series so that was wonderful. The nice part is when the story grows and the plot keeps going and the characters become better in any way, overall this book did most of that, it was a nice read.

The Morning Flower picks up where The Lost City left off, and you definitely need to read the first if you don't want to be lost in this book.

I absolutely loved The Lost City and the return to Amanda Hocking's troll world. Unfortunately, The Morning Flower didn't hold me in the same kind of thrall. The beginning was very slow and uneventful, and it didn't seem to provide any meaningful information. The romance was awkward and clunky, which was disappointing, as I don't remember it being that way initially.

By the time the story started moving along and getting into some revelations, it was time for it to end on a cliffhanger.

I am still interested in the conclusion to the series, but I hope it will be better.

As a side note, this book had editing issues that I hope will be fixed prior to final publishing.

After Eliana is kidnapped, Ulla Tulin's plans to discover her origins get put on hold as she tries to find Eliana and ensure her safety. Ulla travels to the Omte capital where she uncovers information about her potential birth father that has ties to the Älvolk, a secret society tasked with protecting the First City and keeping the Lost Bridge hidden. The mysterious and handsome Jem-Kruk suddenly resurfaces and provides information which may connect Ulla's and Eliana's fates. Ulla and her friends are dispatched to Sweden as "ambassadors" for the Mimirin to gather information and once again they find themselves in danger.

The Morning Flower is the second novel in the Omte Origins series which is set within the world of Trylle. This novel picks up with Ulla's continued search for her birth parents and where Eliana has been taken. In this novel Ulla uncovers information about her Omte origins and potential birth parents which leads her and friends on an adventure to Sweden to find the Lost Bridge. Troll folklore becomes reality as they discover a hidden city and its people who were thought to be nothing more than a child's fairytale. This was another interesting look at the diverse troll culture within the world of Trylle and leads us one step closer to uncovering Ulla's origins. This was a quick read and I look forward to continuing the series when the third novel releases.

The Morning Flower, the second book in The Omte Origins, picks up where The Lost City ended. Ulla and Pan are traveling to New Orleans, the Omte capital, to learn more about Ulla’s birth parents. They also want to find out about the First City and Eliana who was kidnapped at the end of the first book.

One of Amanda Hocking’s strengths as a storyteller is her ability to create these intricate worlds that are detailed and vivid. This story, for example, delves quite deeply into troll history, which I found fascinating. As Ulla learns more about her birth parents and her history, the reader learns so much about the various troll communities across the globe (and possibly beyond?) and their relationships, or lack of, with each other.

This is not a fast-paced or action-packed story. Instead, it is a story about a young woman’s journey to find herself. Ulla has always felt like she doesn’t belong, and she still feels this way. In searching for her identity and finding out about her history, she might gain a sense of belonging and self. Though there are parts that feel slow, the intriguing mystery of Ulla’s parentage, as well as the mystery behind Eliana’s kidnapping, pushed me to finish the story.

I would be remiss if I didn’t discuss the love story since that’s usually my favorite part. Unfortunately, Ulla’s actions were frustrating. Just when it seemed like they were moving forward in their relationship, Ulla would back off or hesitate. Her relationship with Pan has so much potential, but Ulla’s indecisiveness puts their romance on the back-burner. She has a lot to deal with and argues that a relationship wouldn’t be wise. However, I predict that Ulla won’t be able to resist Pan’s unwavering support and devotion for long!

The last third of the book was faster paced than the rest of the story, and there are several surprising revelations. I’m curious to see how this affects Ulla in the next book.

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, it was so great to read these books! This is the last series in the troll world, and it's really delving into their history, and I enjoyed reading them both so much! We had a lot of big reveals, and there was one big surprise one that I'm not sure about, and neither are the characters, and I hope that we learn more, if it's right or wrong!

So we were introduced to Ulla in Crystal Kingdom, and I really enjoyed getting to know her more, meeting Pan, and watching their relationship bloom. And also dealing with Eliana and her internship, and trying to find out about her parents, there was a lot going on, and we learned a blot.

I did have a little bit of confusion, there's a few different a words that aren't in English, that are pretty important to the plot, and keeping them separate and knowing which one was which was a bit of a struggle, but there were definitions in the back, which was great.

That ending of The Morning Flower, it was just so freaking evil! We know what's going to happen, but we have no idea where the next book will start, and how things will go from there! I'm really excited to see how it's all going to end!

Loved reading these books, they were so great, and I'm super pumped for the 3rd and final book!

2.5/5 stars

The Morning Flower picks up right where The Lost City left off - Ulla and Pan travel to Louisiana to seek out information on Ulla's family, the mysterious bridge to the First City, and for information about the missing Eliana. They learn more about the Alvolk and Adlrivellir and get closer and closer to discovering the truth about the mysterious city.

I was pretty excited about this book after the last bit of The Lost City. It finally picked up at the end
Unfortunately, The Morning Flower followed the same pattern of the first book. The first half to the book felt a little unnecessary or something that could have been condensed. When things finally started to happen, it felt rushed. Just like the first book, the last 1/3 or so was so interesting and good. I just wish the rest of the book had the same level of interest and intensity.
