This is the beginning of a new series, and it promises to be a great one!

Hope, Cal and Silas were childhood friends in Deep River, Alaska. Cal and Silas left the town after graduation to follow their dreams, while Hope stayed behind to support her mother. Fast forward several years, Cal has passed away and left the town to Silas, who returns to find Hope is not happy about him being back.

The rest of the story deals with Hope and Silas renewing their friendship and perhaps more. (I don’t do spoilers, read and find out for yourself what happens!). I really enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to the next, probably focused on Damon.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

I've read a few other books by Ms. Ashenden but this deeply emotional love story of a second chance at romance is an unexpected surprise. Silas Quinn had a deeply conflicted childhood in Deep River and never expected to return after he left the small town behind him. Now thirteen years later, his best friend Caleb is dead and Silas has returned to Deep River where Hope their third friend and the love of Silas's life still lives.  To complicate things oil has been found in Deep River and everything's about to change, including Hope and Silas. Considering Silas once offer to stay for Hope how will things turn out this time around?
It's cute how Silas arrives determines to discharge his duty and flee back to where he came from. Aside from Hope whom he has always loved he has no ties or happy memories to the town of Deep River. He feels a strong sense of guilt for the death of Hope's grandfather who died trying to rescue Silas's drunk father, leaving Hope forever imprisoned in Deep River.  As Silas goes about talking to the residents in an attempt to sound out the people and get the lay of the land you can see the ties to hold Silas subtly falling into place.
However Silas's dreams of a future with Hope will forever remain a dream. Hope's mother is determined to take her money and run and take Hope with her so Hope can finally realize her dreams. Now that Hope has finally realized what's in her heart, will her love for Silas hold her in place even as he frees her to fly. The conflict is well presented, while I knew this would have a happy end I just wasn't quite sure how it would play out until the very end.
I found the story compelling about life in a small town that's about to be disrupted by the smell of money changing things forever. Will the town be true to the freedom and the environment that were the founding tenets or will the money change them forever. It's no surprise given Silas's conversations with Damon that he show up in Deep River
.I can't wait for Damon's story especially given that he does not want to stay in Alaska but the one that has me intrigued is Zeke. He is the true mystery.  I am definitely looking forward to the reading this story play out.

Silas Quinn is back in his hometown, Deep Rivers after a gap of 13 years. He is back in town after his best friend left the towns ownership to him and now he has to let the people know about the oil reserve below And decide what to do.
Hope and Silas were best friends till he left, never to be heard of again. Now he is back and is giving Hope a chance to leave to pursue her dreams, but leaving doesn’t have the appeal it once did with Silas back in town.
Come home to deep river is an enjoyable read, about 2 best friends who are kind of lost and finally realize where their happiness lies. The is some steamy romance between the main characters and some funny and interesting moments involving the townspeople. Overall this is a promising start to a new series, and I look forward to reading more.

Come Home to Deep River was a good read. There was quite a bit of description of the town but it was a small town that was not growing. It was strange that one person owned the town and everyone else leased something on it. When the owner died and left it to his three best friends, one of them is from this small town and he offers to go and turn it over to someone since he had a business and he didn't think he wanted to live there again. There was LOTS of drama among the town folk and some romance thrown in. It kept me engaged and had a satisfactory conclusion. I got this book from NetGalley for an honest review

Come Home to Deep River was a good book to relax with, great choice for escapism.

We follow two main characters, Hope and Silas, who were likeable enough, but also not different from many characters I read about in other romantic novels written by other authors.
In other words, they were typical.

I usually love small town settings, they are my favourite, but this time around, I felt like the town was too small.
To explain myself better, I think there were not enough characters.
I really, really wish that the author decided to write one female friend for Hope, because I think she was too lonely without even noticing it.
I wish there was someone to be her support.

I enjoyed reading about town's politics even though it sounded unbelievable, it was unlike anything I've heard before.

Sex scenes (there were few of them) were explicit, but if I'm being honest, I caught myself losing my concentration while reading them.

The reason why I give this book 3 stars (which is still good rating) is because there was no character development whatsoever.

I really wanted to love this book but it just wasn't doing it for me. I ended up DNF at about 46%. I love small town romances, but, for me, the characters just lacked any sort of chemistry.

I enjoyed this romance book set in small town Alaska. After his best friend dies and leaves him with responsibilities in their hometown, our hero returns with plans to take care of his duties then leave. He soon realizes this is where he was meant to be. Once having dreams of leaving town the heroine gets stuck in town after being left to run the family bar. The hero and heroine reconnect and fight their connection. The story got a little wordy at times but I will definitely read the next book in this series.

This is the start of a new series set in a small village on the Inside Passage in Alaska. Silas grew up in Deep River along with his best friends, Cal and Hope. Cal's dad "owned" all of the land in town but it is all leased out to various leaseholders who wanted to get away from civilization and make their own place where outsiders weren't particularly welcome. Cal decided to leave at 18 and Silas went with him, leaving Hope behind. He offered to stay, but Hope basically told him to leave. Thirteen years later, after inheriting the town, Cal recently died and left it all to Silas and two other Army buddies. Silas had been living in Juneau but reluctantly agrees to go back to Deep River to figure out what to do about oil that's been discovered underneath the town, knowing that if it isn't properly managed, the whole town could be ruined. While back in Deep River, he not only has to resolve his long buried feelings about the town, but also his long buried feelings toward Hope, whom he's always had a crush on.

I enjoyed the setting and atmosphere for this romance, but found that the pace was rather slow and although they had once been best friends, I never felt a strong connection between Hope and Silas. She was angry with him, yet she's the one who rejected him when they were teens so I didn't really understand why she treated him poorly when he first showed up. There didn't seem to be any real sparks or heat between them. Nonetheless, there were enough plot threads about the books to come that I'm interested to see what comes next. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am a fan of this author and pretty much read anything she writes. This was an enjoyable read, but more of a "beach read" for me. It didn't have the developed characters and plot intrigue that I am used to. It is a fast-paced book with predictable characters and ending, and a foreshadow of the next in the series.

Hope Dawson dreamed of grand adventures and going to college, but when her grandfather unexpectedly dies, leaving her to run the local pub and care for her mother, Hope accepts her fate.

Then a blast from the past blows into Deep River in the form of one sinfully hot Silas Quinn. But he’s not here for a reunion, he has news that could destroy the sleepy little Alaskan town.

Silas doesn’t want the responsibility of owning a town, much less taking time away from his new business to deliver news he knows is going to be poorly received. Not to mention the fact that he’s bound to see Hope again- his best friend and the woman he’s never forgotten.

This was an enjoyable read by a new-to-me author. Her descriptions of The Happy Moose (the bar) and Deep River’s citizens brought the town to life for me. There are past wounds that need healed before Hope and Silas can have a chance to see where their attraction might lead, as well as the complication of oil being found under the town and how it creates rifts among the people.

This is lining up to be a good series!

So I have to say after reading up to 37% of the book, I basically skimmed to the end. Hope was getting annoying and there was a lot of push and pull between Silas and Hope. It just wasn't moving fast enough for me and nothing was really happening. Plus it was getting a bit repetitive.

I love this cover though.

I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

ARC received for review

It wasn't bad. Silas and Hope had a past, kind of, and great chemistry. I loved all the kooky townspeople. It was just so slow and felt drawn out in places. Plus his nickname, Si. All I could think about was Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty who was not a hot guy.

Come Home to Deep River was not your typical small town romance. Silas Quinn comes back after 13 years to tell the town he and two friends have inherited the town (You may have several questions here; well the book will answer some of them and not others). Silas left because his best friend Hope turned him down because she thought she was in love with their other friend. They were in high school so you could excuse her behavior then. I enjoyed Silas’ character both from the romance perspective and from the way he handled the town.

Hope was just not a likeable character. Between playing a victim and martyr her whole life and holding on to anger at Silas and Caleb for leaving her; there just wasn’t much to like about her.

The book had interesting secondary characters that were much more likeable than Hope. I would have put Silas with the Librarian Mayor 😊

Sexual Content – most a romance with several physical scenes with details.
Violence
Language – F word twice, Gdamn was used 16 times and I consider offensive. Damn – 40 times shi&t – 32 times
Drinking – she owns a bar and takes a swig of whisky when she is upset.

I received this book from publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

I want to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca and Net Galley for allowing me the privilege to read this book and give an honest review of the book. My favorite thing about the book was the description of the Alaska wilderness. The story begins with Silas. He is returning home (after being gone for over ten years) to a city he and two of his friends were willed by another friend. When he left Deep River originally, it was after being scorned by Hope for another friend (Caleb who left the city to him). Silas returned to tell the people who subleased their houses from Caleb's family (with the caveat that they had to live there) that there was oil underground. This book was a little slow for me with some issues with Hope (I mean why so angry girl?) and Caleb's sister disappearing.

Come Home to Deep River is a good book, but ultimately not a favorite of mine. While I loved the scenery and the way the author described it in vivid detail, I had a hard time connecting with the heroine. She was a bit flimsy, and her outright anger at the hero was absurd. She blamed him for things that weren't his fault and held one to this anger for so many years. It just wasn't believable to me and I found myself extremely frustrated with her. On the other hand, the hero was wonderful and I would have loved to see him with someone who appreciated him more! Therefore, this book gets 3 "good" stars from me.

I liked this story about Silas Quinn , him and his 2 friends inheriting Deep River and finding out there was oil there. . He needed to talk with Hope first.. As the story flows see what the town goes through to get things the way they want. See if Hope and Silas get what they want and does he stay. Not something I would particularly read but it was a GOOD READ.

I enjoyed this story and loved how the author described the town, scenery, etc. what I was not a fan of, was that the author told you over and over the backstory of the two main characters. It seemed in almost every chapter it was repeated almost word for word. Most of us get it the first time around, no need to say the same thing again and again. I also thought that to book was too drawn out. This story could have been told with less words and in a way that would keep you reading and more engaged. I am not sure if I would read another book by this author. Sorry for my opinion to your story, but I want to be forthright and honest. Thank you for allowing me this opportunity and I wish you luck!

This is such a charming book! It’s a very quick read. I loved the town and the people. It was a peaceful wad with some steamy scenes. There was some angst. I quite enjoyed the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
