AMAZING intro into using cannabis as a catalyst towards spiritual meditation. If you're looking to take your herb + spiritual practices to the next level, Wake, Bake & Meditate is a great starting point. Kerri speaks with such openness that I was instantly impressed, even further impressed by the underlying pagan elements gently interwoven, which is something I personally resonate with. Personal preferences aside, this book is written in a very versatile way and can be adapted towards individualized self-care regardless of religion.

At the beginning there's a brief overview of the history of cannabis as far as researchers have been able to ascertain, including the best estimated time period and origin of certain strains, along with why using the term "marijuana" is a racial slur, and the spiritual use of cannabis throughout various cultures including Ayurvedic practices. I found this very interesting, and while this book wasn't marketed towards medicinal uses per se, the medicinal herbalist in me wishes it had included more technical information in that regard. I suppose I'll just have to keep an eye out!

Then it dives into some recommended strains (some commonly recommended, and some commonly distributed) for spiritual use, going into detail on each main category: sativa, indica, and hybrid. We learn a bit about how each affects the body and why, their respective THC to CBD cannabinoid ratios and what to consider when looking to achieve a certain mental state, and some tips regarding methods of consumption (edibles, smoking the flower, vaping) and dosing to hit your level of "high" while being mindful of your tolerance level.

Kerri recommends a cannabis journal while experimenting with cannabis meditation as well as when experimenting with new strains and methods of consumption, and I wholeheartedly agree. Strain, counts (THC, THC-A, CBD), method, dosage, time of day, etc. Recording down technical information like this is my jam, so I was pretty psyched to see this topic included. Also included is a plethora of journaling and meditation strategies to really aid you in opening up your mind, as well as numerous meditation sessions to put into practice either solo or with a partner or group. Meditative sabbats and esbats, anyone? Yes? Yes.

Finally, we learn a few simple methods on how to cook with cannabis - butter, oil, and alcohol infusions being some common methods. Carrie goes over decarboxylation, varying your cannabinoid concentrations, and a few other methods for achieving potent edibles right in the comfort of your home. Infused wine, champagne, and honey are a few of the especially easy and delicious ways to infuse your edibles, but there are so many other incredibly delicious recipes out there that are worth considering.
