I read this with my eldest child who was intrigued by the story. It is about two brothers who are in foster homes and I think children are often intrigued by this kind of set up -what would it be like to be in a different home? My daughter loves books like this and about care homes etc so we enjoyed reading this together.

This story felt a bit different though, it is set around CHristmas time and the problems that come with being in new foster homes at this time of year. It seemed a little darker than some of the other books in similar settings are and this was no bad thing, it made it stand out from the others and also helped encourage my daughter and I to talk about things that go wrong with in our own families and the things that we appreciate.

I think that the children were well crafted, the author really brought them to life and got into the skin of young children very well.

I'll definitely be looking out for more books by this author in the future.
