Cassandra Clare does not dissapoint! I can't wait to read the rest of the book, this was such a teaser! I can't wait to get to know each of the characters more!

This is a great teaser and excerpt for this book. I already got engrossed in it and want to know and read the rest of this book. It promises to be just as amazing as all the other Shadowhunter series and I love what I've read about the familiar Shadowhunter names and families especially about Will and Tessa's children and the other Shadowhunter families' children. I'm excited and hopeful to read more about this generation of Shadowhunters and their stories.
If you've read any of the Shadowhunter books then you know the engrossing and intriguing world that's there and how great each of the stories has been and this one promises to be just as amazing.

I downloaded this accidentally, thinking it would be the entire book. Unfortunately, I'm not very interested in reading just 35 pages as that just feels like it'll be torture waiting for the rest. I'm sure this is going to be a great read and look forward to reading the entire thing!

Also, wow, that cover is beautiful, well done!

It was just a 35 page excerpt but I enjoyed reading it and would love to read more. The characters are already easy to love and I’d love to know their story.

While I'm not done with the first books in this series ,I will definitely say that series keeps getting better and so does the characters . Can't wait to read more of this series and see what happens next .

Fans of Cassandra Clare would love this...especially given that the story revolves around the family tree of Will and Jem- so that's pretty much something.
I however found this excerpt a bit too short to tell whether this would be a great read or not.
Thanks Netgalley.

I was given the opportunity to read an excerpt of this book. I have not read any of Cassandra Clare's work before and was highly curious given how popular her books are. The book started very strong for me with the young girl getting lost in the woods. I am not a big fan of fantasy books, yet I found this to be intriguing and compelling. I have a hard time rating this as I have only read an excerpt and not the entire book.

I believe fans of Cassandra Clare and the fantasy genre will love this book. The excerpt was just enough to introduce the characters and the plot. Clare transported me to Edwardian London and created a vivid landscape for her book.

Thank you to Simon Schuster Children's Publishing and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

I couldn´t be more excited for this release, and the sneak peek had me even more so. I already love these characters so much - we've gotten to meet them in some short stories already, of course - and I can't wait to find out what happens to them in this series.

With the excerpt given, the book seems to be off on a great start. The main characters introduced in a nice way and a way of the Shadow World. Can't wait for my full physical copy.

'Chain of Gold,' the first novel in the brand new upcoming series 'The Last Hours' by Cassandra Clare is set to release on March 3rd.. less than a three weeks away! Having never read any of Clare's previous series which have been on my to-be-read lists for years, I jumped at the chance to read an excerpt of the next foray into the Shadowhunters universe provided by NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing.

Though I was concerned I might not know important facts from the author's earlier releases, I was pleased with the way she gently explained anything specific to her world. The details brief enough, so as to come across like a reminder, more than a list of things I might be quizzed on later.

The story seems to center around James Herondale, a Shadowhunter of unusual heritage, that's beginning to struggle with an old problem which could potentially endanger him and his team.. all the while trying to hide his connection to a young woman soon to arrive in London, where they're all living.

When he, his sister, and his mother.. greet a family of new arrivals, long time friends of the Herondales, there's a bit of a misunderstanding which I can't wait to watch unfold. Cordelia Carstairs, her pompous brother Alastair, and their mother are in town seeking allies.. as their father finds himself in jeopardy.

I was also thoroughly intrigued by the glimpse of a young Lucie Herondale, James' little sister, lost in a forest near her family home, in what I assume was some kind of flashback. I found myself desperate to know who her would-be savior was and exactly why he was there.. because it was no happenstance.. and he certainly drew my attention with his playfully dangerous energy.

Unfortunately, the excerpt is incredibly brief.. just a few pages here and there.. but it's more than enough for me to realize I'm going to have to get the book. In fact, Cassandra's note at the beginning of the book implies a fascinating overlay between the historic battle of World War I and whatever is coming for both the Herondales and the Carstairs as their families reunite.

I have never visited Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world, and I think I have been missing out. This starts like it could easily be read as a standalone. There are many teen characters to get to know and root for- James, Lucie, Cordelia, Matthew, Thomas, and Christopher to name a few. And I suspect the original Shadowhunter books included their parents. I just had a beef glimpse into a detailed world with demons, vampires, warlocks werewolves, and Shadowhunters. I can't wait to get to know it better!

I have always loved reading Cassandra Clare books, so this book is one of my most anticipated releases of 2020. Reading this expert, I have gotten a better idea on a lot of things-the whole weapons and what they were (which I figured out what they are finally!), characters (new and old) and what it's going to be about.

I love these characters so much, and will be enjoying this book when it comes out on March 3rd!

I have not read any of Cassandra Clare's previous works so this review of Chain of Gold excerpt has no other biases connected to her previous work or familiarity with the author.

I loved the opening quote from Great Expectations. The author delicately weaves the most beautiful descriptive imagery into the story that makes me feel a part of a fairy tale from the start.

I was instantly intrigued with the little boy that Lucie met in the woods, and anxious to see how their paths cross again 6 years later. That was an excellent hook the author provided!

This book seems very interesting to me, and a genre that I typically enjoy. This sneak peek paired with the admired reputation of this author has inspired me to list this book on my TBR shelf!

Clare continues the Shadowhunters saga by revisiting the London Institute, Although fans will be happy to see appearances from characters of the Infernal Devices series like Will Herondale and Tessa, they will quickly fall in love with our new protagonists--the next generation of Shadowhunters.
The various Shadowhunters books are unique in their accessibility. Readers can come in at to any of the story sets (Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, Dark Artifices) and enjoy the story. Clare does this without watering down the story but instead weaving in extra details that, if all the books read together, make for an even more enriched experience.
As a long time reader, I greatly enjoyed the excerpt and am salivating at the mouth for the final product. I cannot wait to see how The Last Hours weaves its way into the overall narrative.

Chain of Gold – Cassandra Clare (extract only)

I was so excited to get an advanced extract of “Chain of Gold” by Cassandra Clare, I literally squealed and did a happy dance (this can be verified!).
I have literally read every book written by Cassandra Clare in her shadow hunter world.
Strangely I watched the ill-fated movie first and then discovered the books and I have fell in love with it ever since. So, when I heard Cassandra Clare was doing another trilogy in this world, I couldn’t contain my excitement and have marked the release date in all my calendars.
It felt so good to dive back into the world of the shadow hunters, more specifically that of James, Lucie and Cordelia. Set in the magical time of 1897 in London.
Demon activity is low and Lucie made a mysterious night time friend dark, tall and foreboding.
James Herondale is struggling with the demon side he inherited from his mother, being pulled into the demon world at random and having a corporeal form. But Grace is moving from Idris to London, James can’t believe his luck, he’ll get to see her this summer after all.
Unbeknownst to James, poor Cordelia has been secretly pining away for James and moving to London from Idris might just be her chance to have James notice her and fall in love.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands of the book before reading this extract and now, I wish I could run down to the bookstore now and get my hands on it. Reading this was like pulling on your favourite old pyjamas and snuggling in, comforting and familiar.
I can’t wait to settle in and hear what new adventures these young shadow hunters go on now.

Full confession, I only read the prequel series, not the entire City of Bones saga. I enjoyed the first chapter preview. It was a great reminder of some of the events of the previous series and introduces us to new characters. I wish there was a family tree at the beginning, but maybe it's at the end? All and all it definitely whet my apatite for full book, which i will definitely be reading!

Thank you NetGalley for providing an excerpt to Cassandra Clare's Chain of Gold. I enjoyed Clare's past literary contributions and can tell that this will be another stellar addition to the Shadowhunter universe. Although the initial chapter offered a small peek into the new Shadowhunter world, it was tantalizing enough to secure my interest. The characters are intensely likable and I look forward to their evolution through the harrowing moments that are guaranteed to ensue this tranquil introduction. I will definitely read this book in its entirety once it graces the shelves of my local bookstore.
