Wow - this book literally takes your breath away. It is deep, complex, interesting, heartbreaking, moving.... The author does a fantastic job of weaving a story from WW II & 2020 into one complex, intriguing story. Redemption and love interspersed with cancer and rejection and a friendship that encompasses all the "dirt" life throws at a person. I didn't expect the complexity of the story. Nor did I expect the depth of despair or the beauty of forgiveness that all shine in this book. The story has so many twists and turns that keep you interested (but make it hard to put down!). The story isn't an easy one to read. No one wants to read about cancer. About divorce. About death. But in our humanness, we want to know that life goes on. Beauty comes from ashes. Love and forgiveness are real. From this review, you may think this is a tough book to read, but it is far from it. It is NOT fluff, but it isn't depressing nor difficult to read. Rather, it is a book full of hope. Fragment of Light is one of the best books I've read in a LONG time. It will remain with a person long after the final page is read. Wow!

Fragments of Light by Michele Phoenix
Why should you read this book? For a myriad of reasons! Many women will identify with the struggle of Ceelia Donovan’s cancer treatment. Others will appreciate the difficulty that the disease brought on in her marriage. Still others will enjoy the historical fiction aspect of World War 2 that the author fleshes out. For me, it was because I have loved Michele Phoenix’s writing.
This book addresses issues hidden in many women’s hearts. It is both complex and intense. The author explores the meaning of love, forgiveness, and sacrifice.
I loved the resolution of both Ceelia Donovan’s story and Cal’s story. The author made me feel some of the angst that Cal must have felt to make his life-altering decisions. I am not sure that his daughter was wrong to feel bitter about her absent father. I found myself greatly admiring Cal’s wife whoA managed to live her life free from bitterness.
The author paced the plot so that the suspense was maintained. The transfer of the story from past to present was easily handled and simple for the reader to follow.
This book is a must-read for those who enjoy women’s fiction or historical fiction which grapples with serious life issues. I am grateful to the author for a free copy for this, my honest review.

Loved how the two stories played out! Side by side! Separated by 75years yet connected! Covering the devastation that cancer brings but also the joy of recovery! Story of Ceelie and Nate! Who are fighting to save their marriage! Intertwined with Darlene's search for her father who disappeared after returning from active service in WWII! I was totally engrossed from the start of this wonderful story!

Loved the dual story-75 years difference. WW II and current day. Ceelie and Nate and the cancer diagnosis that almost destroys their marriage. Ceelie's friend Darlene and her search for her father, Cal, who disappeared after returning from France after WW II. This is a story of finding fragments of light through the darkness of war, illness, and loss. Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
