Autumn and Ember Sommerset are the most fantastic sister characters that I have ever read, and truly I could have read about those two and been all kinds of happy, but Lori Foster doesn’t stop there with amazing characters, of no, she goes a above and beyond and in walks Autumn’s teenage crush, it’s just a shame she swore off men when her dirtbag ex-fiancé left her at the alter.

And from here you enter a world of people who learn to love again, a child who learns to trust again and a whole new world of animal shenanigans.

Another treat from Lori

I received an ARC and was glad to give my honest review. There is so much about this book that draws me in. There are relationships between sisters, between sisters and their parents, between father and daughter, between man and woman. Each relationship is a treat in itself, but put them all together and add a menagerie of colorful animals and you have a heartwarming love story. The back and forth banter between the protagonists is amusing, arousing and sometimes hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud on occasion. Such a fun read. I can always count on Lori to give me the warm fuzzies.

I want to adopt this family and move to the farm. Ms. Foster has such an astute writing style and the ability to capture authentic intricacies of human relationships and makes the reader feel as if s/he is a part of the story. It is the subtle nuances that she teases out of the healthy, the stressed, the passionate, the disappointing, and the heart-felt love in each of the characters and their interactions that sets her work on a higher level. The entire journey from broken homes and broken hearts to happy ever after is never fairy tale smooth but the scenarios are believable and witty and entertaining. I’m only sad when I turn the page and realize it is the last one.

Autumn was a bit younger than Tash when they were in school but had a crush on him, she felt he never really noticed her. Tash moved away and she stayed, set down roots with a business and inherited her grandparents farm and takes in abandoned animals of all kinds. She's reserved, dependable, more the homebody of the two Somerset sisters, while Ember is considered a party girl and more noticeable. However, the closeness and strong bond between the two sisters is hard to miss. It's Ember who sets up an appointment for Autumn with Tash and pushes her to go meet with him. He's as hunky as she remembers and now has a 7 year old daughter, Sadie. His ex has passed away and he's now raising his adorable, easy to love little girl and doing his best to help her adjust to a number of changes. He hires Autumn to decorate and make some changes to his home and during that time together, they become quite drawn to each other. While she's sworn off men because of a bad relationship and he feels he's not ready nor is it fair to Autumn to become involved because his main focus is his daughter. Ember has a secret of her own and both flirts and is irritated by Mike, the man that works on the farm for the two sisters. Luckily both of these men are patient and give the sisters the space they need to realize they are the perfect guys for them. Great relationship between the sisters and even the men share a bond plus they all love Sadie!! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I th0roughly enjoyed reading about Autumn's and Ember's lives. Although, they seem to bicker all the time, the love they have for each other is unconditional. Each sister sister has found a way to fight her own "demons". Autumn has given up on love because she was hurt and humiliated by a former boyfriend. So when her high school crush, Tash, shows up with his adorable daughter, Sadie, her whole world is turned upside down. Ember on the other hand, is a bit of a wild child and hides her past well. She loves the attention of men, but does not want to settle down because that will bring all the pain from the past to the present. However, when sexy Mike starts giving her attention, she starts to rethink her position of "no strings attached" Lori Foster always makes her characters so real. It feels as if I am there experiencing their lives with them. I always look forward to reading her next book.

I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

Lori Foster is officially my favorite summertime author. I mean, she’s good during all seasons, but I’ve been reading her summer release the last three years, and she has knocked it out of the park each and every time! In THE SOMERSET GIRLS, she explores the tight bond of sisterhood, unexpected love, and small-town dynamics. If you could compress an entire summer mood into one book, this would be it. Two sisters finding love, healing from past hurts, and saving animals in the process? Yes. Please.

I felt a kinship with Autumn. She was kind, reliable, and loyal. Is there anything better than the quiet, self-conscious girl hooking her high school crush once they’re both grown up? Her hottie single dad hero was her perfect match!

I didn’t expect to connect with Ember, Autumn’s brash and outgoing sister, but Ms. Foster gave her so many layers and so much depth, I couldn’t help but to root for her just as much as Autumn. Her romance was fun and sexy, even though I wanted to slap her hero upside the head a few times.

A little more depth with Ember’s love interest would have made a big difference. His characterization was a little choppy and frequently eye-roll worthy. His secret background was out of place and not explored nearly enough. I think it’s an ensemble romance problem; one character usually suffers!

Overall, this was a delightful romance. I bought it for my grandmother too, and it’s been her favorite book all summer! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a slice of summer in book form.

This was a lovely read, I really enjoyed it! The animal rescue was such a fun setting, and I really enjoyed that aspect of the plot line, and the animals that came to the farm. The relationship between Autumn and Ember was delightful as well, sisters who work together and grow closer as the book goes along. And the romance, made the whole story complete. This one gave me all of the feels!

The Somerset Girl is the latest release by one of my favorite authors, Lori Foster. In this newest novel, we get pulled into the world of sisters, Autumn and Ember Somerset. They are pretty opposite, as far as sisters go, but their core values remain the same. Helping as many animals as they can on a daily basis.

Autumn is a designer that has built up a pretty good business for herself. Her sister Ember is a contractor that can build just about anything a client requests. They share a house, along with their dog Pavlov, on their grandparents farm in Sunset, Kentucky. They built a home for their parents, together, on the land as well.

Autumn has settled herself into a nice, comfortable routine. Which is promptly thrown out the window when her sister casually announces that Tash Ducker is back in town. 16 years ago she had a major crush on Tash that, if her response to that announcement was any indication, was still intact. Finding out that Ember booked her an appointment with Tash, who needs a designer, does little to douse the mortification she now feels.

Tash is back in town and he isn’t alone. Raising his 7 year old daughter alone has him in a world he is learning to navigate. Being back in Sunset isn’t quite where he pictured himself now, but he is doing what needs to be done. He finds himself intrigued by Autumn and wondering what might be?

Ember likes everyone to think she is a cool cat, that very little affect her. On the inside though, she is as vulnerable as anyone. She has a love hate relationship with Mike, their farm hand, but she wants it to be all love.

Mike sees the real Ember, even as much as she tries to hide it from the world. He knows he is the man to break down those walls and show her it’s ok to live her truth without worrying about others' opinions.

Another wonderful novel from Ms. Foster that puts me smack dab in the middle of the Somerset family. I voluntarily read an advance copy without expectations for review, all opinions expressed are my own. 4 ½ solid stars for this glimpse into the lives of people who could be my neighbors and friends.

Lori Foster’s The Somerset Girls was a book I dearly needed and I didn’t even realize it. I needed to be transported into a lovely, small town where despite gossiping busy bodies, there is a real sense of community. I needed to watch two sisters grow in their love for one another while helping each other through life changes. I needed to watch those sisters realize that despite their parent’s faults they were loved deeply by them. I needed to see a single dad vow to transform his young daughter’s life into something magical. I needed to watch two different couples fall madly in love in two very different ways. The Somerset Girls is a feel good, relaxing, joyful, story that I found impossible to put down.

Autumn and Ember Somerset inherited their grandparent’s farm and despite busy careers, they’ve chosen to use that farm as an animal rescue. These women who are vastly different but each other’s fiercest protector work long hours and are happy to do it. While Ember has no problem enjoying an active social life, ever since Autumn’s wedding that never was she’s mostly closed herself off from the world. She doesn’t mind until Tash Ducker, the object of her teenage crush, returns to down with his seven year old daughter, Ruby.

While there were two romances going on throughout this book, Autumn and Tash and Ember and Mike (who works on their farm) this book has many layers and was really about relationships of all different kinds and I loved that about it. I also must mention Ruby who was precocious and precious and absolutely melted my heart on numerous occasions.

I don’t want to spoil the story because everyone should be able to experience it like I did, completely immersed and living on that land as everything played out. Every conversation, every action, every little bit of this story was meaningful and perfectly written making the Somerset Girls is one of my favorite books of 2020.

This was a great summer read. Figuring out who you are can often be tough, especially when it comes to breaking out of the frame your family has put you in. Autumn and Ember are happy with their lives, things are going along, maybe they never achieved girl hood dreams, but they can't complain. A few steps out of the box though might make all the difference for them both. Family dynamics, small town living, and lots of humor keep this book moving along at a great pace.

The Somerset Girls. By Lori Foster. 2020. HQN Books (ARC eBook).

Sisters, Autumn and Ember Somerset, despite their different personalities, successfully work together on both a rescue farm and in home-design. And as summer starts with an old crush of Autumn’s returning to town and Ember setting her sights on a worker on the farm, the two will have to join forces once more to help each other overcome their insecurities and be open to love.

The characters, especially the men, were softer than I was expecting from a Lori Foster romance. Nor did I find the family dynamic that entertaining, but rather the mom’s selfishness was outputting and a reason I was hoping for a different resolution to the happy endings; for Autumn and Tash in particular. I felt the characters turned silly and the plot fizzled out in the last chapters. The Somerset Girls is an enjoyable enough pick for a laid back summer read, but I’ve read better from Foster.

I have to admit, that lately, I have been feeling restless and just can't settle my mind enough for anything. Given what has been going on lately, I know I'm not alone. One thing I have been craving is a really feel good story that makes my heart sing. The Somerset Girls hit the spot. I am trying to find the words to say how much I loved this book and how much I needed this book. On the surface, it's a simple story about two sisters finding the loves of their lives. But dig down deeper it's so much more than that. It's about letting insecurities go. It's about making and loving family.

I loved the bond between the two sisters. Being an only child, I have always wanted to have a bond like that. I'm not sure I can pick a favorite couple. I loved Ember and Mike as a couple as much as I loved Tash and Autumn as a couple. Tracey and Flynn were hilarious. I wish I could see a picture of Tracey's art. Add in a sweet little girl who needs the stability of family and you have a cast of characters you wish you could keep reading about. I highly recommend this one, especially if you want to escape for a while.

4.5 star

The story has secrets, sweet love, lots of family and friends. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well, and I was kept interested.

This is both Autumn and Tash’s story and Ember and Mike’s story. These sisters are running an animal rescue together. They have some things in common but mostly are different. They are both strong and sweet and what each other to get there happily ever after. Tash is back in town to raise his daughter he is not looking for anything else. But Autumn and Tash have chemistry and the pull is strong between them. Can they look towards a future? Mike is new to town and looking to really just figure out his life. The chemistry between him and Ember is there but both are a little afraid to try something. As the two sisters push each other towards a future with the one that they just might need will they listen to each other? Or will they push the one they never thought they needed away for good?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read. Side characters are super important in most stories and bring a lot at the table. Lori always has great supporting characters that are not perfect in every way, but they are perfect for the stories she is telling.

I highly recommend this book and this author.

I read The Somerset Girls and it was fantastically written about two sister who had been through a lot and they didn't expect things to change in there life. Autumn and her sister Ember lived on a farm and had turned it into and no kill farm. Both had jobs outside of the farm and with all that they had there parents to look after. Autumn and Ember had divided the family farm into a two family home. Autumn had designed the house and Ember built it for her parent and Autumn help when she wasn't working on the farm and designing projects for other people. Ember and Autumn had both come into bad times where Ember miscarried a baby, Autumn got left on her wedding day. Ember had made and appointment for Autumn with a new client which happened to be her high school crush and he wanted her to design his house and backyard for him and his daughter for a new beginning. Both of girls where to totally different sister. Ember was the free style girly girl and Autumn was the one who stayed home and had the farm to take care of. Even though they had a guy who was a farm hand she still did the work. When not doing that ice cream replaced men and read Karen Rose book. But things had changed and they both to a look at life and thought where things might go and not go.
I hope Lori book does to you what it did for me and that kept me reading and I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh and it also made me cry. It is a very emotional but also a very real life picture to me when I read it I was there with them.

4 1/2 STARS!

Lori Foster has a magical way of making you feel like you're home the minute you open one of her books! With heartfelt descriptions and interactions, you can see the characters come to life right beyond your eyes and feel their heartache and joy as the pages fly by. THE SOMERSET GIRLS brings us the story of two sisters who couldn't be more different in personality, but love and support each other deeply. The fact that they share the running of an animal rescue with all of their spare time will delight readers who can't get enough of their own furry creatures.

Autumn Somerset is simple yet delightful. She expends her creative side as a designer and enjoys burying her nose in a book with any downtime she manages to eek out after her day job and her farm duties. She can't believe it when she hears the guy she crushed on in high school is back in town, and she only hopes she doesn't find herself unable to speak in his presence like all those times in school when she became a stammering mess.

Ember Somerset is the life of the party. She loves immersing herself in life at all times and never wants to take the time to think or feel. She gives as good as she gets with playing hard to get around their farmhand Mike, but she likes the look of love on Autumn so much that she's considering letting him catch her to try her own hand at the game.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a family rich plot filled with comedy, romance and lots and lots of heart. The adorable kiddo and animals make this story come to life! I really enjoyed them all.

Great story by a great author! I really enjoyed this. It was a perfect lazy weekend read and the perfect escape that I needed. I liked getting to know the sisters, Autumn and Ember. They're relationship was interesting and dynamic. Recommended!

I really love Lori Foster's new stuff because it's more plot driven than formulaic driven. In the 90's and 2000's you would know exactly what page the steamy content was on and now it doesn't follow that trend anymore. I loved Somerset Girls so much because it wasn't about just one person, it was about Autumn and Ember. However, Ember is the one who you wonder if she's gonna get her second chance. Everything about this book screamed "Original!!" I love having children in books because it makes them so much better. This is definitely one that everyone should read, plus it has animals in it!!

I’ve been a fan of Lori Foster for a while now. The first book that I read by her was A Perfect Storm, which happens to be the last book in her Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series. I know, I know – not the best way to dive into a series, but it got me hooked and I’ve recently started at the beginning of the series, so there is that. What I’ve discovered is that although I love the sweet romances, I think I get wrapped up in the romantic suspense more. For the record, I knew that little tidbit before I picked up The Somerset Girls. My reading’s eclectic, remember? So I won’t turn down a book from pretty much any genre, especially when it’s written by an author I love and this author definitely falls into that category. 😉

Which brings us to The Somerset Girls… It follows two sisters and their search for love… even if they didn’t realize they were looking. Autumn and Ember are almost total opposites. The one thing that they have in common is their fierce love of each other and animals. They’ve also experienced their own share of heartbreak and it’s pretty much turned them off romance – at least they thought that it had. Ember is determined to make sure that Autumn gets another chance at love and Autumn is determined to make sure that Ember gets that same chance. With well-meaning yet clueless parents; a precociously adorable, yet heartbroken little girl; an old flame that knows exactly how much he screwed up the first time around and a farm hand determined to prove he cares and can be trusted to help mend a broken heart, The Somerset Girls was a sweet story filled with love and hope. Aren’t those the best kind?
