Sarah J Maas does it again. I am so so so excited for this book I can't wait!! I can already tell I love Bryce. I can not wait for the romance! I love her previous books and they get pretty steamy for ya/new adult books. The fact that this is going to be an adult novel...I can not wait!!!!!

If the excerpt is anything to go by, this book is going to be one hell of a ride.

I loved Danika and Bryce's friendship. But I did have a shadow of foreboding when SJ Mass described Danika's potential, usually when this happens in one of SJ Mass books, that character is in trouble. The wolf pack had my heart. It gave me a little bit of The Cadre vibes. Specially the twin wolves, remind you of anyone?

All the creatures described in the book, and all the factions look like all of your favorite fantasy and paranormal and supernatural creatures you've ever read all rolled into one book!! Now it can get a bit confusing. But I suggest you write down somewhere which creature belongs to which faction.

The story and world building flowed beautifully.... I want to give out spoilers and at the same time I don't want to. And I can't wait for the while book to be out!!😍😍😍😍

So excited to read the rest, these first chapters provide another intricate and well built world from Maas full of so many fulfilling supernatural characters I cannot wait to continue this adventure with Bryce.

The Crescent City by Sarah J Mass
The trick is to keep reading the book. I feel like I made a mistake by reading just the excerpt... God's the tension and the mini cliffhanger is so painful.
House of Earth and blood is one such book which I'd buy without even reading the blurb because of the author and the beautiful cover. This give chapter except had a lot of landscape, character and story settings in the beginning chapters. You literally take a deep dive into thid world which is hard to come out from. Trust the author and just get this book. The last chapter in this book was a mind-blowing one for me, as I was adapted to the book so much.
I cannot wait to read the whole book.

SYNOPSIS:
Bryce's life was good, great really. She had a job, friends and partied all night. But when a string of crimes startup they are awfully similar to old crimes, committed by a man already behind bars, and Bryce is finding herself right in the middle of the investigation. Hunt is a fallen angel, ready to offer a deal to Bryce to help her find the murder. What they didn't expect was what they would find.

REVIEW of EXCERPT:
House of Earth and Blood starts off by introducing the different houses that are mentioned throughout the book. I love these pages in a book because they are setting the scene of what to expect. We know that HoEaB has a range of mythical creatures (wolves, fae, vampyrs, merpeople etc.) as well as humans who are blended into the world. As this is an excerpt I won't go into too much detail about the book

The first chapter is such a great opener, introducing 2 main characters and instantly making you feel like part of the duo. I love that best-friend camaraderie in books and it's clear from the start that Bryce and Danika have that special friendship.

I really love Danika, she's completely honest and I love that about people in general, so I was instantly drawn to her and even her pack.

I was utterly shocked at the end of this excerpt and I. Just. Need. More.
Absolutely adore SJM's writing style and I was definitely not disappointed with the start of House of Earth and Blood!

Reading the sampler made me so happy! Even within five chapter Sarah J Maas was able to take me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I can't even imagine what the entire book will be like!

Even though the cover of the book clearly states ‘Crescent City,’ my reaction to realizing that this is an urban fantasy was ugh... Not my favorite setting. Especially since it’s the type of urban fantasy where there is texting, pizza, and party drugs that look like white powder. The setting feels very familiar, so it’s easy to imagine. Overall, the world feels like any modern city, but this is epic fantasy.

Crescent City is filled with multiple types of magical creatures who live alongside humans. I got big Lost Girl (the SciFi series) vibes. Our MC is a half human half fae, 23 year old women (yay new adult), named Bryce. Unfortunately, Bryce was the least interesting character that appeared in the first 5 chapters of the novel. Hopefully, that will change as the story progresses.

The main plot of the book (I think) was introduced in chapter 5. I’m excited to see where the story goes, and if I was able to read more of the book right now, I would.

I was able to read an excerpt of this novel! It was the first 5 chapters! I tried to read as so as I could, but we all know how that goes! The start of this new series is amazing. Great start of world building and character introductions. However, I hate that once again, I fall in love with SJM characters, only to be heartbroken (again, this is just the first 5 chapters)! Can’t wait for 3/3 to get here! If you love SJM, you’ll love this new series

Thanks to NetGalley for this Excerpt ARC. I am super excited for this book. I love this author, I'm just afraid of the length, 800+ pages.

Oh, darn. Very bummed that this was an excerpt. Just long enough that I’m sure I’ll enjoy it but not long enough to really recommend to customers. Oh well...

Thank you so much to NetGalley for providing a 5-6 chapter except for Sarah J. Maas's new fantasy novel-which is most definitely ADULT, not for teens IMO-drugs, sex, alcohol intoxication-and that's all in just the first few introductory chapters. Fun for us grown ass adults however: In a country called Lunathion, a place occupied by humans and, well...not humans, Bryce is a half fae living with a college BFF Danika who is heir to a scary wolf dynasty-yeah, you just have to go with her world building, but it's ok-it's fun if you just suspend your disbelief and settle in to letting SJM tell you a story. Took me a little while to get into the story because you have A LOT of information thrown at you in the beginning to set up the world and what's happening, but once the main action that kicks off the larger storyline punches you in the gut, you are going to hooked into wanting to know what the heck is happening. Maas tells a good story, she's not necessarily the world's best writer, but she tells a good story, see the difference? After the first two chapters I was thinking I could wait for this one from the library, but by the end of the except I ended up pre-ordering.

Bloody hell I read this too soon.
How am I going to wait for the full book after that?
What kind of author makes you cry in the first 5 chapters? (The best kind obviously.)

While I can't speak for anyone else without knowing the end, I need to buy this book ASAP.

**Thank you to Netgalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for making this excerpt available. This, however, in no way affected my rating of the chapters in the excerpt**

I'm unsure about this one. I really liked Maas' A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but from the excerpt, I may wait a bit on this. I found the first three chapters to be a bit of an exposition dump. There were a LOT of characters introduced very quickly, which made it hard for me to keep them straight. Additionally, trying to keep the districts straight without going back to the look at the map proved difficult at first. I eventually sorted it out, but it was a lot of information and background thrown at the reader at once.

Bryce and Danika seem like interesting characters that I would like to know more about. It was nice to see some older characters from Maas and I think that you can tell she has worked hard to integrate so many magical creatures into a society that makes sense. The fact that she was able to get that many different creatures into her community is impressive and leaves a lot of space for the book series to develop in unexpected ways. I'm interested in what's going to happen with Briggs, what will happen between Danika and her mother, Sabine, and how Bryce will develop as a half-Fae character. It's nice to see a protagonist who is essentially biracial, as a biracial reader.

I think the writing is well done and compelling. It just takes a lot of focus at first to get the characters aside from Bryce and Danika straight.

Based on the excerpt, this would maybe be a ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for me. It's intriguing, but I don't feel like I need to rush out to buy it. If my library gets a copy, I'll eventually take it out to read it.

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! So.....I'm saving the one star, and full review for when I actually get to finish the book, but holy guacamole, I am excited to get my hands on the rest of the book. I absolutely loved the ToG series, and based on what I've read so far, this book looks promising as "Hel". It started out a bit slow, unlike ToG, but when the action began, oh man. I'm just hoping that there's some sort of glossary of terms used that comes with the complete book as I was left wondering at times what the author was referring to at some points. But, all in all, the books release date cannot come fast enough.

This is by far the best excerpt teaser I have read. I purposely went in blind without reading the synopsis and now I cannot wait for my preorder to arrive to continue Bryce's story. Honestly, there is not much I can say without giving things away. The plot is unraveling in a beautifully shocking way that has already gripped my heart. I have connected with the majority of the characters so far and really like the way Maas is developing the persona of the MC. The fact this can happen in only FIVE chapters is pretty shocking for a reader like me. March 3rd cannot get here quick enough right now.

I'll be posting a full review on Instagram and Goodreads once I finish the novel in it's entirety.

I read the 5 chapters graciously offered to the readers. I cannot wait to get the book and delving in to the story finding out Bryce's story. I was not expecting what happened at the end of chapter 5. That was a huge place to end the sample :). Looking forward to finding out the mystery with Bryce.

HO-LY SMOKES! That was the most intense excerpt I’ve ever read and I need that book in my hands right now!!! Crescent City is very different from Sarah’s other books in that it feels more modern. The way the characters speak even, feels more of today, yet still has that flair that only Maas has. Her characters, creatures, the intricate details of the worlds that she builds just astounds me, every time. I’m blown away. Ugh, I still can’t get over it enough to sort my thoughts. March 3rd can’t come soon enough.
