This is a helpful book if you're looking to learn how to break apart a large quilt into individual block elements, and how these individual block elements can be slightly edited and placed differently to create a new design. I appreciate the tips and reminders the authors included of things to double-check before sewing blocks in place to avoid ripping out seams later. If you're looking for patterns that 'wow' you, this may not be the book for you. It did not really do it for me. Although I skew towards appreciating more modern blocks (which there was 1 of), I feel like the traditional block patterns available in the book are the same or very similar to some you can find online. Again, the strength of this book isn't in one-of-kind patterns but showing you step-by-step how to create the blocks. The modern block quilt included is gorgeous and I wish more quilts like it were included.

I would say that I am disappointed that many of the images used in the book are stock photos that say "shutterstock" all over them. I realize that this is an early proof so the final photos in the book will not say this. However, it just seems like for this type of book, you should include all original photography.

I received a free electronic copy of this how-to from Netgalley, Linda Hahn and Deborah G. Stanley, and Fox Chapel Publishing - Landauer Publishing. Thank you all for sharing this work with me. I have read Rock that Quilt Block of my own volition and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. I am happy to recommend Linda Hahn to friends and family. She writes with clarity directions to achieving ten different, refreshing quilt tops from the simple Country Crown block, an old-time favorite block we have all seen at Grandma's house.

Instructions on all phases of producing this block are clear and complete. Thank you, Linda Hahn, for taking the what-ifs out of this pattern.

First of all can I say that I really love this catchy title? And the title says it all. This book is all about one quilt block, The Country Crown block. "One block?'", you say. "How boring." Oh, but quite the opposite! It's an exciting and fresh perspective on how to design ten (!) different quilts with this one block. With colorful pictures and excellent instructions, the authors take you step by step on how to create your own quilt with The Country Crown block. I highly recommend this for a quilters home library and for public libraries who have a solid craft or quilting category.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. All opinions are my own. This review can also be found on my Goodreads page.

Rock that Quilt Block by Linda J. Hahn & Deborah G. Stanley is a wonderful collection of quilts building off one patter which is the Country Crown Block. I love to collect quilt books that catch my eye and this one does with the beautiful photographs of the quilts. Clear and concise instructions are very important in a quilt book and this one fits the bill.

Thanks to Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for allowing me to review this book. Expected publication date is April 7, 2020.

Love, Love this book. What a wonderful concept. Using one quilt block and show the variations that can be created by varying color and placement. Well thought out. Quite inspiring. It makes you want to jump over to the sewing room and start making some country crown blocks! I do hope this becomes a series, examining the possibilities of other blocks. The photos are beautiful as are the illustrations. The directions are simple to understand. Well Done!

Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers and authors for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book takes the Country Crown Block and breaks it down into 10 variations to create 10 very different quilts. It also breaks all 10 of those down even more so one can take the example and create there own completely different version.

Supplies, materials and techniques are broken down in such a way that even a beginner could follow along and create a beautiful quilt.

Thank you #NetGalley for the review copy of #RockThatQuiltBlock

This book includes 10 projects all based on variations of the Country Crown Block and has a very user-friendly table of contents that includes pictures of each finished project, rather than just the names. The first part of the book explains supplies and materials, including how to select a specific type and tips on material usage to ensure consistent or easier work, or which materials/types to stay away from and why. There is also an extended section about choosing fabric and getting it ready.

Before the first project, there is an additional section with a breakdown of the basic block and any units or repeating sections, as well as some notes about potential modifications and photos of possible variations. There is also mini vocabulary lesson to familiarize readers with technical terms that will be used throughout the book, and a brief techniques section.

Each individual project has concise instructions that include diagrams and photographs. The very end of the book has a brief "about the authors" section to learn more about each author and also about their quilting partnership and collaborations, followed by a list of links to additional resources.

I would recommend this book to people who have some basic sewing skills (mending, hemming, etc.) but who haven't tried quilting before, or to quilters who want to learn how to modify and customize patterns.

Well illustrated, with multiple shots of each block piece. The illustrations are clear, and close enough to be useful as a visual reference while quilting along.

I would not recommend this book for beginner or intermediate quilters, as there is a great deal of assumption made of skills and experience. The reader is often directed back to the beginning of the book for all instructions, rather than in the pattern pages themselves. This leads to a very choppy feeling to the instructions. Also, there is a great deal of acronyms used throughout, which condense the text, but make reading a little laborious.

While some of the quilts are excellent examples of the variety one can achieve using the same basic block, there were several that seemed much too similar for separate pages.

For anyone that is interested in one block quilts, this is the book for you. The book takes the fairly simple quilting block called - the country crown block - and uses it to make ten quilts, all very different from each other, by breaking the block down, changing colour, orientation and style. It just shows one that with a little thought and play one does not have to have boring.
Well illustrated, informative and easy to follow.

This is an excellent quilt book showing how to make 10 different quilts from the Country Crown block.

It begins with a chapter on supplies and materials. Then there is a good description (with illustrations) of the parts of the block followed by illustrations of 15 different ways to slightly change the blocks. On page 18 are pictures of the 10 quilts explaining how the block has been changed for each one. It is amazing how different the 10 quilts are!

The next chapter describes the techniques necessary to make the blocks, including specifically paper piecing, flying geese units, chevrons, and half triangle squares. It also discusses borders.

Quilts numbered 6 and 8 are my favorites, although all are unique and beautiful. In the chapter for each quilt are fabric and paper foundation requirements, cutting directions, and thorough block construction instructions.

I thank Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for an advance digital copy of this book for reviewing. The opinions are mine.

I have been quilting since 1991 and I still love to find new, unique patterns. In this book the creative authors took one block and, with some small changes, created ten very different quilts. They range from quite traditional looking to modern. My favorite is Crown Jewels. There are clear instructions and plenty of photos. Some paper piecing is involved. Great book for someone looking for a new quilt to sew!

Lovely new quilt book. The authors use the one block and then by @dding different fabric and turning the block pieces, make many different versions and achieve quite a great group of quilts.
This book would be great for new quilters, giving them the tools to learn how to make many different quilts with making simple changes.

This is a book that sets it all out for you, following it should mean that you get a very nice quilt at the end of each section. Right from the start of each pattern you know exactly what you need, fabric, pieces to be cut and what equipment is necessary. With ten quilts to choose from the main difficulty will be which one to do first.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys quilting or is thinking of exploring this very addictive sewing technique.

This is a short book only 80 pages long but packed with 10 beautiful quilt designs. The instruction are perfect for the beginner. At the start of every project is a clear list of the quantity materials you will need, how many pieces of each pattern and all the tools you will require. Clear illustration and photographs guide you along the way. There are also some helpful tips. Highly recommended.

I am so excited about this new quilting book!! Such pretty patterns!

Ten different patterns. The authors include ways to change each pattern. This book really channels creative thinking! It includes a list of materials, patterns, and a detailed description of how to proceed with each design.

I would recommend buying a paper copy instead of a digital copy as you could mark you spot, flip to a different page or look something up with a greater ease.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. The opinions are my own.
