The older I get the more benefits I see to learning ASL. This book is a great resource for people who are interested in taking first steps towards learning ASL.

This book makes learning sign language fun for all ages! I use this with all 3 of my nieces and they love learning how to talk to each other without words, especially knowing that they'll be able to communicate with someone if they're hearing impaired. This is probably the best sign language book I've seen, I'll be forever grateful for the tricks they teach you as well.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved reading the history and the different interesting facts. I have always been interested in learning ASL. I can’t wait to buy this book for myself to really study it. I appreciated the descriptions along with the pictures. It really helped to understand what was going on in each sign. I definitely think having a print book with the pictures in color and the ability to flip hack and forth will be helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed this and suggest it for anyone who wants to build their ASL vocabulary or introduce it to children.

Detailed breakdowns of conversational ASL designed to teach children how to communicate effectively. The part that really struck me was that there was inclusion of information like the importance of facial expression and orientation. Things that are often not included in these guides for children but that do make all the difference.

I was very please to get to see this book. Thanks to #netgalley for the opportunity.

I think it is a great beginners book on sign language. I wish the pictures in the book were a little better. A few of the words/phrases I had to look up to make sure I was doing them right. But it is a good book for adults or children.

I am really happy with this book for beginning sign language with my son, it's something we are both interested in. This book was good for basic information, unfortunately I didn't find the illustrations very clear. That being said I still found it very informative and would recommend for any beginners interested in learning.

I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Do I have your attention now?
Good. Lets begin.😁

Deafness: the experience of not hearing.
And can be caused by a congenital defect, injury, various medications, disease, exposure and/or repeat exposure to loud noise, or age-related wear and tear.

American sign language and deafness often go hand in hand😉.

But one does not need to be deaf in order to learn ASL. For the majority, hearing people do not use sign language, but recently this reality has started to change <i>and I like it!</i> Teaching hearing children to communicate with sign language is a new movement I’m completely on board with😍.

<b>If you think about it… what do children/infants learn to use first? Their mouths to form words, or their hands?</b>
<b>Answer: Hands</b> (think about that newborn infant you were holding who saw your sparkly-dangling earring and thought “pretty,” before grabbing it *OUCH*)

That baby clearly knew she wanted more and took it.

See that^^^. That movement is so much easier than saying “more” for some children.

What children you might ask? Well for my family, the developmentally delayed children who are more than the sum of their genetic disorder/diseases (Ex. Down syndrome, tracheomalacia, cystic fibrosis, SVT).

Teaching sign to hearing children was beyond helpful improving communication between child and adult.

And trust me. They learn quick. The adopted toddler is an expert in the ASL form of <b>"NO"</b>, like every other toddler on this earth😅.

Long intro, I know, but bear with me😊.

I requested a copy of this book in order to compare my own personal experience with ASL for kids/children/toddlers. And I'm happy to report...

<b>This book is a wonderful beginners guid to ASL.</b>

(applause in ASL)

We learn how ASL is not universal, and has different dialects in different communities/countries. For example, the alphabet in British Sign Language is done with two hands while ASL is done with one.

We learn signing basics such as hand shape, location, movement, orientation, and facial expressions. These "basics" are short, sweet, and to the point.

The <i>“Did You Know?”</i> segments throughout the book are excellent as well. I found them to be <I>yummy</i> little tidbits of interesting information.

<i>“People sign in their sleep just like people talk in their sleep.”</i>

See!!! That right there was a tasteful little nugget of information.

We Can Sign is wonderful introductory book for kids, adults, teachers, and more on the basics of American Sign Language. Here you will learn the alphabet, numbers, and basic conversation like "my name is." Readers will also learn the basic signs for home, family, pets, action words, thoughts/feelings, activities, foods, drinks, the outdoors, school/learning, and descriptive words. The only thing I found missing, from my own personal experience, was the sign for airplane. Hello? Gotta have airplane for the little ones!

I really enjoyed interactively reading this book. My only complaint was that some of the sign illustrations were hard to see or understand. I found myself asking my proficient in ASL family member if I was doing the action correctly. That might be a "me" thing, but I wish there were more images depicting the same sign at different angles.

Great introductory resource and intro to ASL for younger audiences. I didn't find the illustrations the clearest at times, but the cultural context given really made the case for the learning the language.

I have read the ASL sign language book and was interested in this one as it differed. This book is amazingly excellent. It provides graphics with proper hand motion and details on Deaf culture as well as tips on approaching deaf persons. This is a must have for every collection. My only concern is fir those who are color bind as the hand movement is red. Waving hands in the air!!!

My daughter liked this and enjoyed being able to sign quickly. We're hoping this will help her when I lose my voice during the winter to understand what I am saying!

*received from netgalley for free for honest review* This is a great book, I took ASL in high school and have been able to use it a few times outside of school and this was a great refresher pilus more! This book didn't spend much time on the alphabet but honestly I liked that since I feel many books spend took long on it and ignore words in "basic" or :beginner" sign books. would love to own this book in print and would be a great gift to kids!

This was an awesome book to anyone who is interested in signing to others. I think this was easy to follow and had a lot of visuals to guide you. I love this and recommend to anyone who would like to learn the basics to signing.

The illustrations are not as easy to follow as in other ASL guidebooks. I received a free digital review copy through NetGalley.

This book is more than a sign language lesson. It has vital information and insight into the Deaf community. I wish ASL was taught in our public schools alongside foreign languages. Beneficial to interested beginners!

We Can Sign! By Tara Adams is an awesome tool for anyone wanting to learn how to sign. This book gives a great introduction to American Sign Language. It takes you through the alphabet and then the basics of conversation such as: Hello, My name is, sorry, please ect. The book has sections on the home, family and pets, action words, thoughts and feelings, food and drinks and so much more! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn the basics of sign language.
