The Accident is a well-written novel with a powerful story emphasizing how everything we know, and how we live, can change in one tragic moment. This dramatic story captured my attention right from the beginning. As the story unfolds, the requisite time is taken to provide readers with well-drawn characters with whom they can identify.
A terrible winter storm precipitates a terrible accident with serious repercussions for those involved, and for those whose love them as well. The Accident will pull on your heartstrings. And in aftermath of the accident, there will be physical and emotional agony.
As in all serious accidents, there is an effort to uncover the facts of how and why the accident occurred, and on what, or whom, the blame should be placed. But regardless of where the blame may fall, time cannot be turned back. The tragic results of the accident cannot be erased. All that is left after the accident are the challenges that come with the fortitude to go forward. And the biggest challenge may be to dig deep inside one’s self. In order to take that first step, one must first find the effort to cope and go on with life as it is in the present.
The Accident is about tragic trauma, yet it points the way to hope of survival and the dream of being able to rise above heart-breaking adversity.
Draws you in from page one! Story of love, loss and hope after a tragedy. Characters are relatable and we see each of their points of view in the story. A reminder of how one second can forever be life changing!! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank Sapere Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Accident’ by Gillian Jackson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
‘The Beast from the East’ with the resultant icy conditions is responsible for the road traffic accident on the motorway leaving fatalities and devastation in its wake. Hannah Graham is on her way to work and although going slowly her car slides on the black ice causing vehicles to crash into each other. Hannah loses a leg but is unable to remember what happened so blames herself for Joe losing his beloved wife Alison, and Cassie and Alan their must-loved son Timothy. Many lives are brutally affected by what happened that day but will the families be able to put it behind them and go forward?
Although ‘The Accident’ is a thoroughly enjoyable novel I wouldn’t class it as a thriller. It tells of the people most affected by the road traffic accident and how they cope with the aftermath of their life-changing experiences. I like the characters who come over as interesting, the narrative flows nicely making it easy to read, and although there are sad and touching moments, the story concludes with a delightful and very satisfying ending.
Thank you to NetGalley and Gillian Jackson for this advanced copy in exchange for my review.
This is a story about several characters thrown together by a tragic accident on an icy snowy day.
The plot was very familiar to me, and I kept questioning if I had read the book before or just the premise?
I enjoyed the individual story lines that were portrayed but also linked to the other characters. The ending brings closure to the reader, and while satisfied with the ending, it was a bit too sugary and neat for me.
My God, what a huge big bag of emotions this novel creates!
An amazing read for the open minded reader... I say that because the storyline is quite outlandish in it's own way but also extremely real in every day life.. you'll understand what I mean when you read it.
Now I'm a fan of Gillian Jackson anyway but this one made me fall in love with her writing style all over again. Her fast paced narrative will keep you on your toes and wanting to devour it in one sitting.
I loved the complete mix of characters all thrown together by tragic circumstance and the storyline just flowed and came together seamlessly.
A solid 4*
Massive thanks to netgalley and Sapere books for the ARC.
Fantastic such a heartwarming story after so much loss and heartache that everything turned out so lovely
Thank you to Netgalley and Sapere Books for this advanced reader's copy. Having only recently read The Abduction, I was delighted to have the opportunity to read this fast paced thriller. It's the sort of book that you want to read in one sitting. I've one regret though, that I didn't wait to savour it during the storm this weekend.
I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
A very short book looking at the aftermath of a no fault fatal accident. It sounded like it was going to be just my kind of read but unfortunately I ended up feeling that despite what had happened the actual story was too light and predictable. The characters didn’t interest me with some too good to believe and others to awful.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have not read anything from this author before but will definitely be changing that. This is a fast paced page turner thriller. Would recommend.
The Accident by Gillian Jackson is a powerful book. It explores how one incident affects the lives of many and how they each cope in the aftermath.
The story is a raw and realistic journey about grief, life-changing moments, and the strength we find to keep moving forward. I loved all the characters the author created, even the not-so-nice ones. The story and character development show how much passion the author put into writing this book.
There were many sad moments, but truly touching ones weaved in as well.
A great book and story.
Note: Thanks to NetGalley and Sapere Books.

‘The day that changed everything for Hannah Graham began in exactly the same way as any other.’
England, February 2018. A deadly storm, a terrible accident. The lives of three families changed in an instant. Hannah Graham wakes up in hospital after suffering a life-changing injury. Joe Parker escapes with relatively minor injury, but not his wife Alison. Alan and Cassie Jones lose their son, Timothy.
What happens next? Is anyone to blame for this accident?
In this novel, Ms Jackson follows the lives of these three families – especially Hannah Graham and Joe Parker. Hannah has no memory of the crash and worries that it might have been her fault. Joe struggles to find purpose in his life without Alison. Alan and Cassie Jones are determined that the memory of Timothy will live on.
I can’t write more about the story without potentially ruining the page-turning excitement which is a big part of Ms Jackson’s writing. Suffice to say there’s plenty of drama. Some (but not all) of it is predictable and while the ending was a little too neat for me, I am sure many readers will find it satisfying.
Note: My thanks to NetGalley and Sapere Books for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book for review purposes.
Jennifer Cameron-Smith
The first two chapters drag with introspective backstory that would be better shown in interactions with the characters. However, at the end of chapter two, the accident is described vividly from the perspective of the second victim and the story starts moving along with lots of nice twists.
4 stars
Hannah and Mike Graham have two eighteen-year old twins, a boy and a girl. Hannah was on her way to work when she lost control of her car on the ice. She has no memory of the accident, but carries a very vivid reminder. Joe Parker is forty-three and is married to Alison. They were on their way to Alison's mother's house. Alan and Cassie Jones lost their almost fifteen-year old son Timothy in the accident. He was being taken to the orthodontist by his father. All told, several vehicles were involved in the icy road accident and three lives were lost. The winter storm was called the Beast from the East by the English population.
This story is told from three points of view: Hannah, Joe and Timothy's parents. Joe and Timothy's father remember all too well, while Hannah remembers nothing about that fateful morning.
The inquest returned its verdict.
Ms. Jackson competently and compassionately treats the issues of loss, grief and hope. Her writing style is compassionate, but tells the truth at the same time. I enjoyed the glimpses of the individual lives that were portrayed in the book. We all deal with grief and loss in our own unique ways and this short novel clearly illustrates that. The day to day struggle in these people's lives was shown, as well as the (very), slow healing process. I truly enjoyed reading this story. This is my first Gillian Jackson book and I immediately went to Amazon to look at her other novels. Well done, Ms. Jackson.
I want to thank NetGalley and Sapere Books for forwarding to me a copy of this very good book for me to read, enjoy and review.
Fantastic read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Mix of characters all thrown together after an accident and seeing where that accident would take them. It was well written and flowed well. Easy to read. Just wasn’t long enough that’s my only complaint. Will definitely be on the lookout for this author again
I’ve read several books by this author. And I’ll keep doing so! This book didn’t disappoint and I see myself always going to this author.
A good read. Not spellbinding because I can't classify this as either a mystery or a suspense novel, but definitely worth a read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Gillian, not as much as Snatched and Abduction but a great read which I can recommend.
For me, I would have liked the book to be longer with more of a story about the individual people. It reminded me of a book I read a few years ago called 'The Best of Times', obviously this was a lot more condensed but I can certainly recommend Gillian's book.
Thank you to Netgalley and Sapere Books for giving me the opportunity to read this thoroughly enjoyable book.

This is my favourite book from this author so far!
While this may be not be a thriller - instead a traumatic event followed by the consequences -, it still instantly had my attention.
The accident that happens truly is devastating and the ripple effect that followed had me feeling a ton of emotions and empathy for those involved.
Main character pov's, Hannah and Joe, were excellently written and both I felt a lot for.
However, while Alan and Cassie Jones' story was equally as touching and emotional, I would of liked to read more from them. The story mainly focused on Hannah and Joe, and while I liked those characters, I think the Jones' story would of definitely given the story a bit more depth and emotion.
It may of been a short read, and there were certain missed character developments, but I still would highly recommend this book!
A must-read thought-provoking drama!
Fantastic rollercoaster of a read with some brilliant twists and turns. Loved all the books by this author and looking forward to reading more. Definitely one to watch
OMG!!!!!!!! Just Brilliant! I loved The Accident by Gillian Jackson. This is the second book i have read by Gillian and I am looking forward to read more books from her.
