My thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

Hard DNF for me at page 200. I had inklings at page 93 that this book was not for me, well, actually on the first few pages of the book, but I pressed on. Until her political views came out too strongly and I was done.

She is completely, 100% entitled to air her views, it is her memoir. However, I am also allowed to not have to read them.

The author is a teacher, so I think many teachers who share her viewpoints will enjoy this book. I will recommend to them and will discuss with others as well. I gave the book three chances and almost made it to the end before I decided I had books that I would enjoy more to read waiting on my Mt. TBR.

1, I just can't deal with politics right now, stars.

This is a memoir of a teacher..... her story from beginning with youth & then teaching preschoolers to high school, to being a Professor in college. It is interesting to hear how things are in different types of schools & communities. I guess it's advertised as 'essays', but it reads like a memoir. There are occasional humorous accounts, but it isn't hilarious (as was also advertised.) There wasn't anything that surprised me in her account of the life of a teacher. It's easily read, & I imagine it shines an honest light on the profession.
I received this e-book free from Atria Books via NetGalley, in return for reading it & posting my own fair & honest review.

This should have been more funny than it was. Although a few of these short stories were, I found it rather dull and kind of annoying. I really thought this was going to be hilarious the whole way through but it was not. I skim read this honestly to get to the more funny parts.

I also had to use the shelf app to read this book on my phone which was a pain the butt because the writing is super small. Not good.

Thanks to Netgalley, Shannon Reed and Atria Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I appreciate the advanced reader's copy of this book, but maybe it's because I've been a teacher for many years myself. I found this book utterly boring. I found it minimally funny, and to be honest, I found the lists a bit lame. I understand why this person got a B because this book was not that interesting. This is my honest opinion. Thanks again, NetGalley. #netgalley #whydidigetab

The humorous shorts dispersed throughout this book were great. The remainder of the book didn’t interest or land with me. Perhaps it is better suited for educators by profession? Thank you to Shannon Reed, Atria Books, and Net Galley for the advance digital copy! #NetGalley.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy.
I do not have much thoughts about this book, other than the fact that I do not love it. As a black educator I find myself unable to relate and feel seen in this book. This book oozes as of it was written by a white woman, and it probably is. Will I give this book a chance for others, yes but it is a no for me. I ended up DNFing this book about halfway through.

3.5 stars

Funny read and I especially loved the list of Harry Potter characters in order of who you'd most like to teach. I think teachers would enjoy it more as you would be able to relate to so many of the stories. It was a great insight into the lives of a teacher and how much they put into their jobs for little in return.
