Flower's on her grave by Jennifer chase.
This is book 3 in the detective Katie Scott series.
Detective Katie Scott gets into a cold case that is close to home. Her aunt was murdered the next morning after a wedding anniversary party. Her team warns her not to investigate this one but when her uncle is arrested for the murder she finds herself in her uncle's old case files trying to prove his innocence?
Brilliant read. I loved the story. Katie was still my favourite character. I hope there is more to come. 5*.

This book is both enjoyable and frustrating. It is a real mystery why anyone would want to murder the sheriff's kind and gentle wife with all the evidence pointing to her husband. The way so many of his colleagues however are so quick to condemn him really made me angry as did the difficulties Katie faced when she tried to investigate and get information on a similar cold case. I love the way this author combines the crimes committed with the personal lives of the officers and look forward to finding out more about those involved in the next book.

I seem to have a knack of stumbling upon new series of mystery/crime thrillers (new for me atleast) by mostly beginning with the 3rd book in the series. The Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase is yet another example of it and I am glad to have found yet another solid crime thriller series.

There really isn't much to fault in the book. It's fast paced with solid characters and even though Katie suffers from anxiety and PSTD after returning from her two tours in Afghanistan, she doesn't let that overshadow her brilliant capability of leading the cold cases department in the Pine Valley police department and solving difficult cold cases against all odds.

My thanks to Netgally, the publisher Bookouture, and the author for an e-Arc of the book.

This is the third book in the series featuring Detective Katie Scott. Katie is an ex army officer and is still suffering from PSTD. She is now working in the Cold Case department of the Pine Valley police force. She is a very strong and tenacious character who will do her best to solve cases. I have enjoyed the previous two books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. It can be read as a stand-alone but it is better to have read the other books to get a feel and background of the characters. This case is a very personal one for Katie as the chief suspect in a murder investigation is her beloved uncle, Sheriff Wayne Scott, Wayne and his wife Claire have been celebrating their the tenth wending anniversary with a big party at their home. The next morning when Katie calls round she finds her Aunt Claire’s mutilated body and her Uncle Wayne covered in blood. Katie knows there is no way that he would have murdered her Aunt but the evidence seems conclusive when his prints are found all over the murder weapon, an antique knife. Katie is taken off the case but she is determined to prove her Uncle’s innocence. As she looks through some cold cases he has investigated she finds a cold case, from twelve years previously, with a body with wounds very similar to her Aunt’s. Katie works closely with John, a forensic specialist and Deputy McGaven. They try to warn her that she is putting her life in danger with her investigations but Katie decides to go it alone. There is plenty of suspense, drama and twists and turns along the way. A very enjoyable read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

The main story begins when Detective Katie Scott's aunt is killed and her uncle, the sheriff, is the primary suspect. But Jennifer Chase has managed to give us several story lines, crimes that are part of Katie's job as a cold case detective but bear too many similarities to her aunt's murder to be coincidence. This community of family and fellow policemen must weave all of the stories together to find the identity of the killer and keep the sheriff out of his own jail. Flowers on her Grave is definitely a great mystery/ thriller that kept my attention and managed to conceal the culprit until the very end.

Flowers on Her Grave is the third novel in the Katie Scott series. Katie is the detective in charge of the new closed case department in Pine Valley. While Katie starts to investigate the disappearance of a man several years earlier tragedy occurs in her family. When her aunt is killed after her 10th anniversary party Katie's uncle, Sheriff Scott is arrested. While being barred from getting near the case Katie looks for any cold cases that might be similar to her aunt's murder. The Katie Scott series is an enjoyable detective series that are quick reads.

I read Flowers on her Grave by Jennifer Chase, this is the 3rd book of the Detective Katie Scott series. I hadn't read the first two books but I had seen that it was still good as a standalone and it did not disappoint. It was easy to follow with a load of suspense throughout and I'm definitely going to read the first two soon. Also I really like that this has a strong female lead and crime stories are one of my faves to read.

I hope there will be more books in this series too.

I read book 2 in this series (missed book 1, for some reason) and I think this book could be read as a standalone. I didn't feel like I had much of an advantage by having read the previous one, in any case.

Katie Scott is a police officer whose uncle is the Sheriff. Of course, there are people who say she is only there because of him, but she works hard and likes working on cold cases with her partner, McGaven. She has a boyfriend who is a fireman, Chad, but we don't see a lot of him. She also has a dog, Cisco, who is her loyal companion from when she was in the Army. He is lovely, but we don't see much of him either.

There are a couple of cases that Katie gets stuck into, and she does a good job of figuring things out, although she takes some stupid risks! She is not allowed to investigate her uncle's case, but she does a bit of sleuthing anyway in an effort to clear his name.

All in all, this was a solid police procedural, but for some reason it didn't have the same amount of depth that the previous book did and thus was not quite as satisfying to read. There were lots of red herrings but I am still a little unsure as to the motivation behind the murders etc.

Anyway, 4 stars from me. I would still like to know what happens with Katie next :) Hoping her dog features a little more, but that is just me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Flowers on Her grave is third book on Detective Katie Scott series. Believe me, the series gets better with each book.. this book can be read as a standalone, but I read the previous two books before reading this and the author’s writing gets better like aged cheese! The story oscillates between past and present.. a little more past than I expected..even though i tried to solve in one sitting but the story goes dark and heavy at times.. love the rebellious nature of Katie.. definitely gonna keep watch for the next books in this series.
Thank you NetGalley, author and publisher for reader’s copy of this book. This review is my own and is not influenced in any way!

I absolutely loved this book. Even though it's the third book in this series, it can be read as a standalone. I myself haven't read the previous ones but after this, I definitely will. Very suspenseful book and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

WoW........Is this the third book in the fantastic Detective Katie Scott series?

Flowers on Her Grave by Jennifer Chase was another fantastic read, Just like the other two books in this series.
When I saw this new book by Jennifer, everything stopped and I had to read the next installment of this series. Before I knew it the birds were sing outside my window. I found this book gripping and very personal to Detective Katie Scott.
This book involves her beloved Uncle, Sergeant Scott, who is the Pine Valley’s trusted and respected sheriff and his wife, who she loves so much, It was her Uncles and Aunts wedding anniversary party at their house, everyone was happy, drinks were flowing, everything was perfect! Everyone could see they adored each other and they were so in love. The party finished and everyone went home. Katie wakes up the next morning and walks into something that will never leave her! She sees her aunts dead body. Kate is in shock, she can not believe her eyes on what she is seeing in front of her! No way could her beloved uncle kill her aunt! but he was the only one who saw his wife, her aunt alive last night. Things could not get worse when her uncle is arrested for the murder. His prints are found all over the antique knife found at the scene. Everything in front of Police and Katie is pointing to her uncle! the evidence seems conclusive.

Something doesn't feel right and Katie needs to look deeper into her murder of her aunt.

Can she prove her uncle is innocent?

Or does Katie need to face facts and admit that her uncle murdered his wife and she needs to face the facts that are in front of her that he did Kill her!!!

WoW!!!! what a fantastic book! I loved it.

I am so looking forward to Jennifer's next installment in this brilliant Detective Katie Scott series.

Big Thank You to Bookouture, Jennifer Chase the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

A personal case for Katie Scott as her aunt is murdered and her uncle suspected. She is desperate to prove his innocence but must keep away from the investigation due to the family connection. Instead she focusses her attention on a cold case that her uncle investigated 12 years ago and believes there is a link to her aunt's death. But is she endangering her own life as well as her uncle's case...?
Katie is joined once again by her army dog Cisco but he has less of a role in this book compared to the previous two (Little Girls Sleeping and Her Last Whisper). We also see less of her partner McGaven but much more of John the medical examiner.
The personal nature of the case keeps Katie's character in the centre of the plot as she had been in the other books. I could understand her frustration with being unable to help on her uncle's case but was incredulous that she would risk damaging the investigation.
The murders are described forensically and briefly so there is little unpleasant or graphic detail. The revelations at the end were unexpected and I had no idea on the true identity of the culpit: as with the previous books, the focus on the detective led to a distancing from the killer and their motives.
Flowers On Her Grave was an enjoyable police thriller with plenty of action and the plot was fraught with tension.

"Flowers on Her Grave" by Jennifer Chase was a good read, good but not great! This is the first book I read in the Detective Katie Scott's series. It's the kind of book you could totally read as a standalone and still understand the motivations behind a character's actions because the characters are fully fleshed out, and the writing is smooth.

Also, the author mentions past events during the book; maybe a bit too much? So you won't a problem understanding who is who and what happened years or months before. I don't know, perhaps it was just me, but I felt like I was not invested in the murder(s) because the story was too much invested in Katie's own story.
For the most part, this was a well-constructed thriller, and I say for the most part because there were aspects of the story that I had more than one problem with.

At some point, there was so much going on, too much info, too many feelings, too many thoughts, I had to stop and read something else because I was becoming frustrated with the fact that there was no increase in tension. Also, I didn't like how I was presented with the fact that she has a partner that she trusts, and still by the end, she becomes a lone wolf for no apparent reason, and because of that, she puts him in danger with her own reckless actions. Plus, I felt like I was not given a real background on the killer's motivations, yeah, he's a psychopath, but I needed more than a diagnosis.

I like this series. I think the premise of the investigations being cold cases is unique, especially since the cold case in this book links to a current one. And this time, it’s personal to Katie. The author did a fine job of tying it all together. I did think that Katie’s personal life seemed a little short-changed, and I wished that there had been a bit more background on the killer’s motivations. But it was a good read, and I look forward to following Katie through more cold cases. 3.5 stars. For more thoughts, please visit my blog at Fireflies and Free Kicks Fiction Reviews. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a digital ARC of the book.

A fast-paced police procedural/crime thriller --the third installment in a series featuring Detective Katie Scott of the Pine Valley Sheriff's Department.

Katie has been promoted to head the cold case division by her uncle who happens to be the Sheriff. She has a part-time partner, Deputy McGaven, who also works patrol on alternate days. Katie is a vet with history of two tours as a K-9 operative in Afghanistan. She suffers from anxiety and PTSD and has finally sought some therapy. She has a new man, Chad, in her life and things are going well for her.

Katie and Chad attend an anniversary party at the home of Katie's uncle and aunt. The next morning, as is their tradition, she shows up to the house to find her uncle dazed and bloody and her aunt dead in the laundry room. Immediately, the Sheriff is arrested and Katie -- though officially barred from the case -- begins her own shadow investigation with the help of her mentor, Nick. Meanwhile, Katie and McGaven are looking into a cold case murder that occurred many years ago as well as a missing persons case. Katie is determine to prove that her uncle did not kill her aunt and to solve the other old cases as well. NO SPOILERS.

Katie Scott is the typical female detective of this genre. Headstrong, rebellious, doesn't follow rules or procedures, and somehow manages to get all kinds of support and backup to follow her down into danger. After 3 books, I find her irritating. Everyone is always asking how she is and despite her PTSD and anxiety, she manages to get the job done taking huge risks herself and endangering other people as she goes off on her own without telling anyone her plans. And does back-up show up in time when she needs it? I can't figure how she keeps her job -- oh wait, she's the Sheriff's niece. Anyway, the story is decent though convoluted. I didn't guess the identity of the killer and there were plenty of red herrings and suspects though the motive was ever so very teeny tiny slim. Lots of convenient coincidences for sure. It was a quick, easy read over a couple of hours. I will most likely want to read the future books in this series as I'm invested.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.

Book 3 in the Katie Scott series.

In this Katie is still working the cold case unit. Until the morning she finds her Aunt brutally murdered.

And then she goes flat out to prove her Uncle is innocent.

It seems Katie is the only decent detective in this whole department!

A good story that keeps you guessing although some questions were left unanswered for me.

Lisa Jackson and Karin Slaughter fans are going to lap up this heart-twisting, jaw-dropping and nail-biting thriller by Jennifer Chase, Flowers on Her Grave.

Detective Katie Scott always believed that her aunt and uncle adored each other. Seeing them dancing together on the night of their wedding anniversary party just confirmed the fact that they were still as crazy in love with one another as they were on the day they got married. Katie always believed that her aunt and uncle were rock solid – until the next morning when she wakes up and walks into the most shocking and terrifying sight she has ever seen in her life: her aunt’s dead body. Katie simply cannot believe her eyes, but the shocks just keep on coming when the number one suspect in the case is none other than her uncle, Pine Valley’s trusted and respected sheriff. With her uncle’s prints found all over an antique knife found at the scene, the evidence seems conclusive, but Katie cannot shake off this feeling in her gut that her uncle is not the one responsible. Can she prove his innocence and find her aunt’s sadistic killer? Or does Katie need to face facts and admit that her uncle is not the man she thought he was?

Nothing and nobody is going to convince Katie that her uncle is a killer. Despite being warned not to interfere in this case, Katie begins her own investigation and as she digs into her uncle’s case files, she finds a shocking picture of a young girl murdered who had lacerations on her body identical to those found on her aunt’s body. Katie knows that this is not a mere coincidence and that there is someone out there determined to frame her uncle for a crime he did not commit. But with Katie stumbling upon dead end after dead end, can she ever get to the truth. Who is keeping her from discovering the truth about who murdered her aunt? And why? Will tenacious Katie give up? Or will all these setbacks make her even more determined to ensure that her uncle does not pay for a crime he is clearly being framed for?

When she stumbles upon a crucial piece of evidence that could save her uncle, Katie realizes that she needs to tread carefully because her next step could end up costing not just her uncle’s freedom, but her entire life.

Jennifer Chase certainly knows how to pen a pulse racing crime thriller that will keep readers absolutely glued to the pages of her book. Flowers on Her Grave is a fantastic chiller that will leave you breathless where the shocks never stop, the action never flags and the twists are so unpredictable they will leave you with your jaw on the floor.

A brilliantly sinister and addictive thriller that will keep you up way past your bedtime which features a tenacious, intelligent and resilient detective, Flowers on Her Grave is addictive crime fiction at its twisted best.
