Well-kept secrets will eventually be exposed. And when you have three women, each holding tight her own set of lies, you know that there is going to be a twist or two that will force the truth to the front.

The controversial advertising agency burns to the ground one night, and our three main characters watch as a body bag is removed from the debris. Who knows what happened? Who died? And what was the motive? Was it Laura, just returned from maternity leave and concerned that her juicy job has been given to the temp? Is it Mia, the young temporary, who is outgoing with her coworkers, but shares nothing about her background and family? Or is it Janie, the owner's wife, who is conflicted about playing second-fiddle to his job?

Told from the perspectives of the three main characters, the story is balanced and intriguing, with twists and turns along the way. And the ending puts the tale to rest in a satisfying and fitting manner. The story dragged a bit in the middle, and was a bit predictable as it progressed. While I am absolutely okay with characters that I don't like, I still need to be invested in them, and I didn't find that I was captivated enough with any of these women to truly root for, or hate, them.

A quick read, with plot twists and deception galore. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy, in exchange for my honest review.

Laura, Mia and Janie are three perfect liars but the truth will always come out.

Laura has completed her maternity leave and is returning to her job at Morris and Wood, an advertising firm. She’s not impressed to find Mia still sitting at Laura’s desk on her first day back to the office. Laura had hired Mia on a temporary basis to cover her mat leave and she fully expected Mia to be gone on her first day back. Instead Mia is not only still sitting at Laura’s desk but she has finagled a permanent job at the firm and has also poached Laura’s biggest client. Now Laura is determined to uncover what Mia is so desperate to hide.

The other liar in this story is Janie, the wife to Harry Wood who is the owner of the advertising agency. Janie has given up her prestigious, lucrative job as a Barrister to be a full-time stay at home mom to their two children. Things are not always as they seem and Janie is also hiding from the truth.

When an arson fire burns down the advertising agency one evening, fingers are pointed at these three women. Did one of them set the fire, and if so, which one and why?

I enjoyed this story and I felt that the author did a good job of keeping me guessing right to the end. One thing the novel really made me think about was with respect to the storyline of Laura trying desperately to get her biggest client back from Mia. At the end of it all, it made me wonder if sometimes we fight so hard for the win not necessarily because we want it so badly, but because we don’t want the other person to have it.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I think it dragged a little in some of the story and kept the "secret" a bit too long. I found it slow going without too much happening for a long time. And many of the characters annoyed the hell out of me.

By the end, with the reveal I was satisfied.

I enjoyed this book and there was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't blow me away. It had a gentle, meandering plot and I liked that the perspective kept switching between the three women. At each chapter we are given a bit of the police report with the other staff of agency and I found it definitely helped to draw suspense and show the tension between the different parties. Overall I wasn't able to guess most of the secrets and the ending did catch me by surprise, it just wasn't the roller coaster that I had expected.

A page turner, how the lives of Laura, Mia and Janie connect.

Laura worked for Janie’s husband Harry, she had acquired an account in the firm that brought in a great deal of money. Then Laura gets pregnant and takes 6 months off, so she is asked to hire ‘Temp’. This is where Mia comes in, she is interviewed by Laura and insists she just wants just a temporary job.......but is she telling the truth? Mia has left her well paying job to return to her childhood home to help her Mom look after her sister. When Laura returns expecting to get her job back she discovers Mia has taken over her top account and Harry supports the decision. Laura is devastated and tries to persuade Harry to give her back the account. He refuses! Then the sparks fly in all directions!

A fascinating tale, with all three women having secrets that you will be eager to discover. Highly recommended, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Did you love Big Little Lies? Well this one definitely gave me similar vibes. A slow building plot, strong female characters with dark secrets, police transcripts used to unravel the truth…I couldn’t get enough! If you are a fan of all of the above, I highly recommend checking out Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks.

From the publisher – “From the author of Her One Mistake , hailed as “chilling, captivating” by New York Times bestselling author Megan Miranda, comes a riveting new suspense novel about three ambitious women whose lives are turned upside down in the aftermath of a horrifying fire, which destroys a successful advertising agency and threatens to expose a tangled web of lies.
Laura has returned to work at Morris and Wood after her maternity leave, only to discover that the woman she brought in to cover for her isn’t planning on going anywhere. Despite her close relationship with the agency’s powerful CEO, Harry Wood, she feels sidelined—and outmaneuvered—as she struggles to balance the twin demands of work and motherhood.

Mia was only supposed to be a temporary hire at Morris and Wood, but she’s managed to make herself indispensable to everyone. Everyone, that is, except Laura. If people only knew why she was so desperate to keep her job, they might not want her to stay.

Janie gave up everything to support her husband and the successful agency he runs. But she has her own dark secret to protect…and will go to any lengths to keep it safe.

With signature prose lauded as “breathtaking” and “bone-chilling” by USA TODAY bestselling author Cristina Alger and plenty of shocking twists and turns, Three Perfect Liars is an unputdownable thriller for fans of Watching You and The Couple Next Door.”

I am a thriller fan (aka head of the self proclaimed Shari Lapena Fan Club), so hearing all those comparisons to other titles I’ve read, made me very interested to read this and I’m glad I did!

The story is told from the perspectives of three women (Laura, Mia and Janie) and begins in medias res. It contains flashbacks to two months before the fire and moves forward to the night in question. This helps to build suspense and develop strong backstories (and motives) for each character. I found myself going back and forth between who I thought was responsible for the crime. I will say I did not have this one figured out in advance (which doesn’t happen often). Perks does a great job keeping the reader on their toes as the story unfurls.

I found myself sympathizing with Laura throughout the novel. As a mom with very young children, I understood the struggle between family and career and how difficult it can be to let go of your previous life goals. I was rooting for her throughout. She and the other characters were flawed, yet still engaging. I loved how female focused this story was.

I will say the ending was a bit anti-climatic. As a thriller fan, I was hoping for more of a jaw-dropping twist, as opposed to the slow burner this one was, but this does not take away from the reader’s overall enjoyment of the story.

I would highly recommend if you are looking for a well-written mystery with a strong female presence.

3.5 rounded to 4

A fire, a body bag and three women with secrets? Sign me up! Our three perfect liars are Laura, Mia and Janie, all initially connected through an advertising firm. Laura returns to work at firm after mat leave to find out that her replacement Mia has taken over her role and her largest client. Mia has her own secret reasons and agenda for being at the firm. And then there is Janie, the wife to the boss who doesn’t trust her husband or his female employees and has her own secrets to hide.

This was my first read by the author and I liked Park’s writing style and in particular, the multiple POVS of three women, transcripts of police interviews, and the alternating timeline of before and after the fire, including a police interrogation that was very Big Little Lies. This is a quick read and whodunit that was easy to put together for me as I was able to connect the clues given by each woman. Because of this, I found the ending and reveal to be a bit anticlimactic. My favourite parts of the book were the work environment and how the dynamics between the women were created and changed throughout the book. Overall, an entertaining read for fans of books like Big Little Liars and workplace suspense.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, just as I enjoyed her previous book, Her One Mistake. I felt myself connecting to each of the character's perspectives and their motivation behind their actions. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and reading into the early morning hours. A must-read for any fans of thrillers, and particularly timely for the women's empowerment movement. I look forward to reading more of Perks' future titles. Thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review.

The story centres around the time before and after fire destroys an advertising agency (Morris and Wood) where Harry Wood is the CEO. The story is about 3 women: Laura who has been off on maternity leave returns to find that her replacement doesn't want to leave. Mia was a temp hire while Laura was off but she has managed to make herself so indispensable. Janie gave up everything to support her husband and the successful agency that he runs. All three women seem to have dark secrets that they don't want coming to light.

The question is did someone set fire to Morris and Wood? Detective Emily Marlow conducts the interviews and everyone has interesting stories to tell

This was an interesting book that was written in many different styles. Part of it was like a play, part of it was a movement back and forth in time.

What a great premise!

A mysterious fire, possible deaths, twisted back stories. All interwoven until the clearer picture emerges.

Some of the mystery was strung out for too long but my main niggle with this book was that none of the characters were particularly likable. When faced with multiple mysteries, I kept hoping I would champion one of the main characters but they were not particularly nice. I would begin to identify with their problems and then they would step out of their expected behaviours and become unpleasant.

The twists are marvellous, the writing style is magnetic, and you could certainly do way worse than spend some time with Three Perfect Liars.

It took me quite some time to get in to this story. Not like i was going to give up on it; but it seemed to take forever for anything to happen, and i was a bit bored. However, in saying that, i read the last 60% in one afternoon.
The characters were very complex and deeply faceted. I can't say i developed any feelings for them at the beginning, and found them a bit unrelatable (especially Laura - as i was a stay at home mom and she very much wanted to work!). I didn't really like them, until the very end, when the truth finally came out.
I had no idea how it was going to end and really liked how it was all tied together. The ending was a complete surprise. I was left with a few questions though: for example, what exactly happened with Saskia? The ending also left me hanging a bit, although i can imagine what happened.
I would recommend it though - the writing was really good and it was a very intelligent story.

I really wanted to love this one, it had all the ingredients that I usually look for in a book. A thriller, English, the promise of a twist, but I didn't connect to the characters and the story felt rushed. In the end, I waited for a twist that felt a little flat. I had really high hopes, which probably set me up for disappointment. This one was lacklustre for me.

What a crazy story to read that one wow! So glad that Miles Morgan aren’t hurting the girls anymore cause he wasn’t alive at the time of Monday night of the fire...Mia wanted her sister Jess to have a better life without being desperately and hurting a lot..

This novel is like if Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere had a baby.

When I first received Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks based on the blurb and the cover I had assumed it would be this fast-paced dynamic psychological thriller. Instead, it quickly revealed itself to be something a lot more. This novel lures you in with the enticing premise about the fateful fire that changed everything but it’s about much more than that. This book is very much centered on the pitfalls of womanhood, the myriad of things that society often forces women to sacrifice and to give up. It’s a very dark novel that brings up a lot of interesting things about what it means to be a working mother, what it means to “have it all” in this day in age, and how hard women have to work to garner the respect that seems to come so easily to the men around them. At the heart of this story are three women, Laura, Janie, and Mia.

At the start of the novel, Laura is returning to her job as a senior executive at Morris & Wood after six months of maternity leave. She is excited about returning to the job she loves so much and that she is extremely good at, but on her first day she soon realizes that the woman that was intended to be her temporary replacement has ingratiated herself into the office in a way she could’ve never anticipated.

That woman is Mia, the mysterious new woman who has come to Morris and Wood with intentions far greater than simply just climbing up the corporate ladder.

And lastly Janie, the wife of Harry Wood, Morris & Wood’s CEO who left her job as a law barrister five and half years ago to be more readily available to her husband and two girls. But now she feels trapped in her marriage and is struggling with the decision she made all those years ago.

As the plot moves forward, the tension mounts and the more these three women’s lives intertwine until everything comes to a head creating (quite literally) an explosive ending.

Though there were aspects of this novel I really liked, particularly with the way Heidi Perks was able to subtly pepper in these blunt truths about motherhood and the realities of the workforce for women vs men, there were also many things I didn’t enjoy. I, of course, am not anywhere near the age of the women central to this story so I can’t say I knew too much about what these women were dealing with going into it, but the feminist in me was happy to see how the author was able to paint such a stark reality for many real-life women in a heartbreaking way.

My main gripe with the story was the way I felt the narration and the way the story rushed along (particularly at the end) really kept you at arm's length. I just didn’t feel like I got to really know the women or I really understood their motivations. Though there was a satisfying conclusion to everything, I’m left feeling like the women remained enigmas to me. I just wish the story was plotted and executed a lot better.

The pacing too was just very off. The beginning felt very long and drawn out, the author giving you just enough crumbs to keep you intrigued but it often felt like we were going in circles in terms of the plot, some of the chapters felt very repetitive, especially Laura’s and it just felt like once we reached the middle of the story the author was just harping on the same thing over and over again. Then around 60% into the story, when we finally got some forward momentum it felt like Heidi Perks was skipping along with certain elements that I would’ve liked to have more detail on, breathlessly racing past all of these huge plot points. Sometimes I would have to re-read certain paragraphs just to firmly get a grasp on what was going on.

Ultimately the story had a great set up and an intriguing premise but in the end, it left me a little cold and disappointed.

I liked this book it was face paced, a quick twisty read. It is told from 3 women’s point of views. There is a crazy paced lead up to the drama. It all seems to unfold over a 8 weeks period. There is unreliable characters, which I always love. A extremely insecure woman who may be mentally unstable. And one who’s world revolves around her mission, which slowly unfolds.

This is a good read I liked the flow, the writing is beautiful. I would have liked it to be a little longer, I would have liked an definite ending.

I got to read this book at a very opportune time as I also just returned from maternity leave and can definitely relate to Laura’s struggle as a working mom. I honestly felt like there could have been a little more... thrill to this thriller but overall it was a good story!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the ARC of Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks. I’ve been hearing good things about this author and was excited to read her newest novel. Right from the start, I liked the alternating narrators, flipping from past to present; this sets the stage for a more complex timeline, while keeping the perspective fresh. Perks does a good job of setting the stage for the conflicts, revealing past problems and hinting at the present ones. The intermittent police interview are important narrative pieces and work to fill in the gaps. Not sure I’m crazy about the “high-strung formerly successful woman returning from maternity leave” character; I actually prefer her nemesis, but you can decide for yourself. Perks throws in enough of Mia’s backstory to elicit some sympathy, but it is murky through most of the book, yet it niggles at you. Also, not sure I’m buying that Laura cares more for her biggest client than the well-being of her husband and baby. To top it all off, if she’s such a talented person, could she not have simply found another job? ...but then that would ruin the pivotal conflict, and the question of “who dunnit”. Keep reading, you will be surprised.

The novel starts with an office building on fire, resulting in the death of an unidentified character, and an unnamed woman observing the scene from a distance. From there the events flash back and forth in time between the police investigation and the events in the months leading up to that night.

We follow three women, all of whom, as you can guess from the title, are untrustworthy narrators. Who's lying and who's telling the truth? Who's conveniently leaving out bits of information? Who is misinterpreting the actions of others? There are surprises right until the end.

Although suspenseful, I didn't find this to be as much of a thriller as I expected. Instead it was more of a puzzle to be solved through the lens of three very different women's experiences and perspectives. I really enjoyed the characters, in spite of their flaws. The author has a great understanding of human nature, so even though I didn't always like the choices the characters made, I always knew why they were making them. I'll definitely look for more by this author.

The book was easy to follow and the story kept you wondering what would happen next. I think the ending was a little bit anti climatic, but I would definitely recommend it. It's perfect as an easy beach read for those who prefer thrillers.
