I have read Robyn Carr’s series, but this is my first standalone novel by her. I enjoyed Sunrise on Half Moon Bay so much, that I read it in one sitting. It read super fast, even during the tougher topics of conversation. It never dragged, and the characters kept me engaged.

Carr has a knack for crafting intricate relationships between characters. In Sunrise on Half Moon Bay we follow the story of two sisters who were born 20 years apart. While they had never been super close, they both find themselves starting over in their lives. Addie had been taking care of her ill parents who recently died, and now she has the opportunity to go back to school and do the things she has wanted to do. Justine who is the older sister, finds herself in a bad relationship with her husband, they end up getting a divorce, and we see what Justine starts to do with her new life. Both find sweet and interesting love interests. Addie has Jake, a guy she has been good friends with for a long time. Justine gets to know and enjoy the company of a private investigator. There is also Justine’s ex, Scott. I like that I can get inside the heads of each of these characters for a more comprehensive story experience. The characters are what really carry this story.

Carr tackles some hard topics. Domestic abuse sneaks up on you in this story. It is not immediately obvious. Carr gives insight into less well known domestic abuse situations, and how they are often viewed and handled differently. It is well developed and implemented into the story. If domestic abuse is a trigger for you, I would not recommend this story.

This was a fabulous quick read, that can be easily finished in an afternoon. The characters are what really make this story, and I like how Carr takes tough issues head on.

I received an electronic Advanced Reader Copy from Harlequin through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own. Thank you NetGalley, Harlequin, and Robyn Carr for a fantastic read.

Justine and Adele may be sisters but there is a 20 year difference. Justine is a successful lawyer and pays the expenses for Adele to care for their sickly parents. How both parents have died and Adele is confused and bewildered about her life. She dropped out of university almost 10 years ago to be caretaker and Justine is discovering her marriage is over. The sisters need each other to find their own ways. They need to do some major updates on the house and decide to sell or keep it. A good story of two very different sisters. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I eagerly await each new Robyn Carr book. Her characters are so relatable. She does not disappoint in this new novel set along the California coast at Half Moon Bay. Justine is navigating life after discovering her husband of 30 years has been having an affair. Her sister 2o years her junior is finding her self after devoting the past 8 years as care takers for her late parents. And of course two new men enter each of their lives... a bit predictable but a sweet read.

There is something about stories about sisters that really appeals to me. This story of sisters Adele and Justine is set in the beautiful little town of Half Moon Bay.

Addie and Justine were never close sisters, given the twenty-year gap between them. Now each sister is faced with an unanticipated future. I enjoyed reading of how they faced their challenges, experienced personal growth, and got to know each other and bond as sisters. I thought each sister was portrayed in a realistic way, making mistakes along the way but learning from those mistakes.

Beautifully written, I highly recommend it as a quick read.

Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy to review. Opinions are my own.

RATING: 3.5 STARS
2020; Mira/Harlequin

Sisters, Adele and Justine are twenty years apart and have never really been close. Justine was starting a family around the time her sister was still a child. She has a great marriage and two beautiful teen daughters. She was able to go to law school, and have a well-paying job, as her husband stays home to care for the girls. Justine is also taking care of her sister financially, so that Adele can be their parents caregiver. After the death of her mother, Adele is finally able to continue with her life, but Justine's marriage is coming to an end. Add on top of that, Justine's job may be downsized so money is tight. As the two sisters try to figure out what comes next, they discover they just might have each other.

I love Robyn Carr for the sweet but realistic storylines, that always find some happy medium by the end. This novel is a standalone and you have two strong women characters coming into their own. The happily ever after in the end is just the cherry on top to this relaxing comfort read.

I’ll be honest – I didn’t particularly like Addie or Justine at first. Justine seemed a little cold & distant and Addie was ineffectual. But as the story moved along I found myself looking forward to seeing how they would grow and where their lives would end up. (And I think it takes a special sort of skill to create characters that, even though you don’t particularly like them, you can’t help but keep reading about them :) )

Part of the appeal was that the sisters had a chance to discover themselves and build a relationship with each other that due to age difference & circumstances they hadn’t had before. The people they become are more assured and more comfortable with themselves & where they are going with their lives, which makes them much more appealing.

While there isn’t a whole lot romance involved, there is a lot of growth and discovery. It may be difficult, and at times unpleasant, but it’s also real and that is one of the things Carr impressively brings her readers every time.

Adele and Justine are sisters. Justine is 20 years older than Adele so they have never had much of a "sisterly" relationship. Adele has spent 8 years a a caretaker first for their father, then their mother. Justine spends most of her days being a high powered corporate attorney. But when Adele is left alone after their mother dies, and Justine finds out her husband is cheating things change.

The two women have to figure out how to navigate their new lives and it isn't easy to do so. With her two daughters by her side, Justine quits her job and moves to their hometown (Half Moon Bay) where she becomes a small town lawyer. Adele, with the prompting of her best friend, Jake, begins to change her life too. She drops 40 pounds and gets a job. Both learn that the past is the past, and if they want to be happy they must rely on themselves to find what their happiness is.

This is a feel=good, beach read. It's a book about love, infidelity, loneliness, and how two women find their way to a better life. Whether married, single, divorced the reader can find something to relate to when it comes to these sister.

I really enjoyed this book. Robyn Carr has always been a favorite author of mine. She doesn't disappoint.

Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is the latest book by Robyn Carr. Having enjoyed her Sullivan's Crossing, I was really looking forward to this book when I received it for review and it didn't disappoint me.

This book follows the two sisters, Adele and Justine, and their journey after the universe throws curveballs at them. The book has both Adele and Justine's point of views. Both sisters aren't so close being twenty years apart.

Adele has been taking care of her parents when they fell sick and she came back home to kind of hideaway from the world for her reasons. She got too used to her lifestyle only relying on Jake for a friend. But once she had no one to take care of, she had to move on with her life finally and this book describes her journey of the changes she brings to her life.

Justine feels burnt out at her workplace but is continuing to work for the fat paychecks for her stay-at-home dad and her teenage children. And then the truth she wanted to deny comes in front when Adele witnesses her husband, Scott cheating on Justine. Justine with a strong mind, keeping her emotions intact approaches this situation, she handles this very well despite being heartbroken and shaken from the betrayal of her trust by Scott.

This book showcases Adele and Justine's journey to make their lives better and their efforts to live a happy life. Both women are so different, hence, each woman has a different approach and yet they grow close. There's a silver lining after all since Justine seems happier and Adele finally starts to live her life. Justine's daughters were really understanding, Logan was a great character as well. I really enjoyed the first 50-60% of the book but later I was slightly disappointed in Adele for being a bit of a dilly dally about Jake.

It was a great book overall. It was nice to read about the duo's journey towards happiness after all the darkness they had.

This was a wonderful example of the evolution of characters and a few topics not often mentioned - the stress of being a caregiver and male victims of domestic abuse. I enjoyed the sisters and how the became friends as the circumstances of life changed so dramatically. It is perfect Robyn Carr and I can't wait for my patrons to read it!

Beloved author Robyn Carr is back with an uplifting, emotional, witty and captivating tale of renewal, redemption and healing that will keep readers riveted to the page: Sunrise on Half Moon Bay.

Life hasn’t exactly panned out as Adele had planned it. As a young girl, she had such ambitions and hopes and dreams for the future. But sadly, reality had intervened and she had ended up living in the house she grew up in in the coastal town of Half Moon Bay where she had spent the last eight years taking care of her ailing parents. With her graduate studies on indefinite pause, no job, no social life and wholly dependent on her older sister Justine for money, now that Adele doesn’t have her parents to care for any more, she cannot help but wonder what she is going to do with the rest of her life. At thirty-two years of age, the world should be her oyster, but she seems to be spending her days on the couch, watching repeats of old sitcoms and eating take-out. Adele needs to find the courage to step out of her comfort zone, but little does she realize that her sister Justine might inadvertently end up giving her the push she so desperately needs…

Justine has never been particularly close to her younger sister. With an age gap of twenty years, Justine had been an adult when Adele was born and her birth had completely and utterly consumed her parents’ lives. Justine has never resented Adele – particularly in the last eight years when her younger sister had selflessly stepped into the breach and looked after her parents and been there for them when they needed her most. Justine might not have been available to physically care for her parents, but her hard work, drive and acumen had ensured that the family had always had sufficient funds during this very difficult time. Having ridden the wave and climbed up the corporate ladder, Justine had the world at her feet. Until things changed. With her professional future in jeopardy, Justine realizes that she needs to start looking at her finances and start saving money – and that might mean selling the family home in Half Moon Bay. And as if Justine didn’t have enough to worry about, her marriage to her husband seems to be falling apart.

Justine and Adele have never had much in common nor have they spent much time in one another’s company in the last couple of years. However, when fate pushes the two of them together, they realize that they might be more alike than they previously thought and that love, respect, strength and support might just see them through this uncertain period of change and fresh starts which they have found themselves in.

Can Justine and Adele find the strength and courage to start over and start living the live they deserve? Or will they let their fears and regrets condemn them to a lifetime of loneliness and unhappiness?

You can always rely on Robyn Carr to deliver a story that will touch your heart and Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is certainly no different. A spellbinding tale of sisterhood, loyalty and the ties that bind written with plenty of heart,
Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is a terrific story about letting go of the past, vanquishing old ghosts and new beginnings that sparkles with wonderfully nuanced characters, touching romance, searing emotional drama and atmospheric descriptions of coastal town life.

Justine and Adele are two brilliant characters who are as different as chalk and cheese, but who care deeply about one another. They are brave, believable, intelligent and so wonderfully drawn they will feel like close friends by the end of the book.

Robyn Carr’s Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is another compelling read from a writer who never disappoints her readers.

The title speaks to a new beginning and that's what this book is all about - making lemonade out of life's bitter lemons.
Addie is figuring out a new path after spending years being her parents' primary caregiver. And her sister, Justine, is coping with major adjustments in her marriage. It seems that Half Moon Bay may hold the answers that they both need.

Though it tackles tough subject matter, readers who've experience similar life changes as Addie and Justine face will find comfort and encouragement in this book. Although a bit repetitive and choppy, it's a fast read and Robyn Carr fans won't be disappointed.

Thanks to MIRA books/Hallmark, NetGalley, and the author for offering a free copy of this new release in exchange for my honest review.

There was a mixed bag of good and bad in this book. I liked how the author tackled a few subjects that are not often addressed (reverse domestic abuse, for example), and I enjoyed the descriptions of Half Moon Bay. However, I thought there was too much piled on at the beginning. The characters didn’t need that many things to go wrong. And I think the author missed some descriptive opportunities to let Half Moon Bay come to life. But the message about resilience and the bond that sisters can form at any age was strong. Thank you to Harlequin for a digital ARC of the book.

Adele has been taking care of her parents for eight years. Her father dies and then a few years later her mother passes away as well. Adele is left just hanging and has to make a new start.
Her sister Justine has been married for 30 years but finds out her husband has not been faithful. She asks for a divorce and her life starts over as well.
This book is good to show that women can survive without the help of a man.

Overall, Sunrise on Half Moon Bay by Robyn Carr is a beach read about two sisters set in a lovely California beach town. The book for the most part goes where you might expect it, and with the ending you might expect it to have. It does, however, incorporate enough substance on issues such as domestic violence and workforce re-entry programs to prompt me to do some research and learn more.

This is the story of two sisters, Adele and Justine. There is a twenty year age difference between them, which has left their relationship a bit distant. Adele is the youngest and has spent the last eight years caring for their ill parents. Justine is a successful attorney, married with two teenage daughters.

Now, their parents are gone and Adele is ready to get back to her own life. Unfortunately, she had dropped out of school and has no skills to get a job. She’s not sure what direction to take.

Justine is in a marriage which she had no idea was falling apart. She is determined to pull herself together for the sake of her daughters, even if it means reinventing herself.

Both women are broken, but intend to find happiness. They rediscover their own relationship and vow to help each other.

This is the story of two women dealing with very realistic issues. It took me a little time to warm up to Adele and Justine, but by the end I was loving them both and cheering for their happy ending. The author does a great job in writing each character’s growth and giving us a supporting cast to make this story come to life.

There’s a little romance, too, but mostly this is Justine and Adele’s story - their relationship and how they reach for each other to help their survival.

I admit that I joined the Robyn Carr fan party late having only just started reading her this year, but I’m so glad that I discovered her writing at last! Like many, I started watching the Virgin River series and then went back to read the books. Now I’m branching out to her other collections and, wow, there are many! Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is Carr’s latest book published this month and it is fantastic. I stopped reading one of her other books so that I could read this one because I love the area of Half Moon Bay, California. The book was calling to me!

Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is a tale of two sisters born twenty years apart. I thought my own kids, born five years apart, had a lot of years between them but twenty is an entire generation! Needless to say, the sisters had very little, if anything, in common. Addie, the younger sister, dropped out of university to care for their ailing parents while Justine, a successful lawyer, covered the expenses. It was the best arrangement for all concerned but now that their parents are gone, the future has changed dramatically for both sisters. With a future filled with uncertainty and change, the two will need to find a way to come together to solve both of their problems and, perhaps, to find love along the way.

I have found that Carr is a master at creating characters that the reader will care about and relate to. Both sisters, although light years away from my own lifestyle or concerns, still resonated with me. The challenges they were facing were those that many of us will face at some point in our lives. I also found the secondary characters to be a tad bit more interesting than the sisters themselves and I hope that in future books we will see them again.

Sunrise on Half Moon Bay is well written women’s fiction and perfect for Carr’s fans as well as new readers to this genre, especially those who are new to Carr after watching Virgin River.
