She trespassed on his land and awoken something he long thought missing. A deadline was given and it changed absolutely everything. Her life finally had purpose and she was no longer forced to marry a man for financial support. Anna Bennett’s historical romances are absolutely divine.

I loved the premise of this story, and while the execution wasn't perfect, it was still an enjoyable read. The hero and heroine both had ulterior motives for meeting each other, but soon love conquers all.

I was thoroughly engrossed in this Regency love story featuring compelling characters and a skillfully crafted, emotionally charged narrative that held my attention throughout. The allure and unmistakable connection between Lady Sophie Kendall, adept at orchestrating discreet gatherings for the Debutante Underground, and the irritable Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, grappling with PTSD, melancholy, and restless nights, were particularly captivating. If you appreciate a sincere, impossible-to-put-down Regency romance.

This author leans towards the sweet whereas I appreciate more sass, but this was a fun and cozy read.

I actually received this arc but never got around to finishing it but I quite enjoyed how far I got and I went back and read this book.

It's a great book and I enjoyed it a lot!

I've found this Historical Romance to be entertaining and well written, so I enjoyed it quite a lot. This is a new author to me and I do intend to read more from her back list. I enjoyed Sophie and Reese's interactions and chemistry. The story was charming with some steamy scenes and a slow burn romance, but it was not as dramatic and in-depth as maybe it should have been, considering what Reese was going through. I just felt that everything was too lighthearted and the characters were not quite as well drawn as they could have been.

I think no young woman of the time would have behaved as Sophie did though, especially as she was going to be married to someone else - so not really fitting the time period. Conversations were very contemporary and the word 'partner' was thrown around constantly, especially during the meetings of the Debutante Underground. (An interesting idea and is the perfect excuse for our heroine to know about sex). Partner is a modern reference to relationships and wasn't used even when I was first married.

There are quite a few points I questioned, considering the book is set in the early 1800's in England. Many scenes are at night (both outside and inside) - with slivers of moonlight, or no moonlight with the couple using a single lamp. I live in the country and we have no street lighting, so I challenge some of these scenes. HR authors tend to forget this sometimes, as we all live in a world of electricity, easy access to water, heating, and all kinds of food. England at night, even in summer, is pretty cold too and I just couldn't picture the midnight swimming and laying about on the grass afterwards.

I haven't read the other 2 previous books in the series and there could be mild spoilers for them as her friends are side characters, but saying that, this book is a stand alone read. It's a good way to spend a few hours if you're not bothered analyzing the time period too closely. My thanks go to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the eARC in return for my opinion. 3.5 stars.

Absolutely lovely! I especially like that the characters acted realistically and the plot was fairly realistic: no stupidly not telling people things or bizarre convolutions to keep the story going. This was a wonderful story about real people and the problems they would face. (Also....I really want to visit Reese's garden. I wish it was real.) Highly recommended.

The Debutante Diaries trilogy, began with three girls, friends in finishing school, vowing to each keep a journal during their first season. They were frustrated with their lack of knowledge about topics they deemed important that society would shelter them from. They believed young ladies should enter the marriage mart fully informed and have their questions answered in plain language not flowery innuendo or oblique speak meant to confuse them instead of educate.

The first book, First Earl I See Tonight, featured the artist Fiona. Lily, the writer, who began the newspaper column the Debutante's Revenge, loses her memory but finds a Duke in book two. When You Wish Upon a Rogue closes out the trilogy with Sophie, who leads the women's meetings and loves to garden.

With her meetings growing, Sophie needs to find a large location. A seamstress tells her about a vacant building just down the block. When Sophie goes to check it out she finds the door unlocked and a handsome bleary eyed man inside. He introduces himself as Mr. Peabody and asks Sophie why she has wondered into a vacant shop. The two get to talking and Sophie's nurturing soul, ferrets out that "Mr. Peabody" has insomia like her mother. She happens to have some Valerian root with her and brews some tea. Her soothing nature and the tea induce sleep in the poor man. He wakes refreshed from night's sleep without nightmares.

Mr. Peabody, Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, is a soldier and a second son who never expected to become the Earl. He was fighting on the battlefield when the letter informing him of his brother's untimely death. Reese is suffering from night terrors and PTSD and his lonely manor house makes sleep even more elusive. The amount of stress he is under weighs heavily upon him and his only relief was in Sophie's company. He seeks her out again and proposes a deal that will give them each what they need, sleep and a meeting place.

Things don't go easy for the two. She is promised to another in a marriage of convenience to save her family's finances and her father's reputation. He feels so damaged that he fears he can't love or be loved.

A beautiful story that features real issues women of the day faced. It wasn't all happy endings and love matches. Women had to struggle for basic rights. I loved the underground beginnings of a feminist movement in this time period. The Debutante's Revenge was a great plot point to base the books on and the three central ladies are strong and fight for their happily ever afters.

WHEN YOU WISH UPON A ROGUE - Anna Bennett

#3 in the Debutante Diaries Regency romance series

SWEET! - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - We finally get to Sophie's story, the coordinator of the Debutante's Revenge article and the initiator of underground meetings on the subject. But her family situation requires her to marry for money, not for love. So her secrets must be forgotten when duty calls.

Writing - 4 stars - Having met Sophie previously, it was easy to be drawn right into her story. Besides that, Bennett creates attractive characters that you want to be friends with. And the scenarios are interesting without being over-the-top.

Characters - 4 stars - As always, Bennett creates warm and appealing characters. Sophie is strong but young, friendly but somewhat private. She wishes for a romantic love, but because of her family situation, she is required to marry for practicality instead. So when she meets Reese, she knows it'll go nowhere. Reese, the brooding and unhappy earl, is tortured by guilt and unhappiness, unable to sleep. When they accidentally meet and he is able to sleep because of her ministrations, he's desperate to have her continue. Soon their relationship becomes a lot more personal, but they both know they can't continue and that there won't be a happy ending for them.

Title - 4 stars - This fits the format of previous books in this series, adapting a well-known phrase to fit the Regency romance subject.

Cover - 4 stars - Beautiful dress, dreamy look. Lovely.

Overall - 4 stars - This story is a bit out of the ordinary in that Sophie is defying convention by secretly meeting with Reese. This is surprising, considering her usual dependable and unadventurous personality. The midnight assignations were definitely romantic, but it was clear that they were also becoming friends, and I enjoyed watching them get closer. I was definitely rooting for their success since they were so cute together. I know that the Underground meetings were meant to show that all women, of all walks of life were the intended audience for the column. But the only jarring note was that maids of that era were probably uneducated and couldn't read, right? So I was surprised that Violet, especially, could read the column in front of the group; it didn't seem in keeping with the time period. Otherwise, this was a wonderful addition to this series, and I enjoyed it as much as the first two. I will definitely look for more from this author.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s nice to read about a guy who cares about the happiness of a heroine and is supportive. Just what I needed to take a break from the world for a bit.

After reading the beginning and end and skimming the middle I have decided not to post a review online or on my blog. Why? I cannot give this book more than a 2 even though I know that many will enjoy it. I found it predictable, light unbelievable even though well written. I could not "buy" the story and hate to write that in a review. I rated the first book in the series 3 and the second 2 and this one...well...as I did not read every word and will not be doing so do not feel it is fair to post my thoughts on the book for public consumption. Thank you for allowing me an ARC - Sorry the book was not one I feel I can review positively and comprehensively.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

A spunky, happy heroine? Check. A grumpy hero? Check. Slow burn romance? Check. A dose of feminism in your historical romance? Check and mate. Overall, a fun and easy, with some sensual romance and a bit of a daring (for the times) heroine. A worthy installment in the Debutante series.

I have received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity.

Thank you NetGalley and St Martin's Press for this arc.
I have found most historical romances of this period usually start with some sort of contrived premise story line and mostly I'm okay with that. But the ridiculousness of this one was too much for me. I read on, hoping the characters would overcome. Initially, I found Sophie and Reese somewhat intriguing, but as I read on they started to wear on me. Sophie was just "too sweet" and Reese was just "too too"
Overall, it was a predictable read with flat characters.
1.5 stars rounded up

This was a fun read, but it did stretch the bonds of believability more than the others in this series. But overlooking that, it was a good, fun, romantic, adventurous romp. I do wish there had been a bit more at the end regarding what happened with the Debutante Underground and all three girls in particular in the aftermath. But overall, a fun read.

Why did I wait so long to read this? It was beautifully written and I adored Sophie and Reese! This was my first book in the series and I felt like I was able to understand everything going on. I lived the depth of emotions this book had, the tension, the struggles and the romance!! An amazing story and I can wait to go back and read Lily and Fiona’s stories too.

"When You Wish Upon a Rogue" was an enjoyable happily ever after story. Sophie Kendall and her friends Fiona and Lily are the secret creators of the popular weekly newspaper column "The Debutante's Revenge", which discusses love, relationships, marriage, courtship, and intimacy, among other topics. She also chairs the Friday night meetings of the secret Debutante Underground, a group of women who are devotees of the newspaper column and meet for open and honest discussion of the columns, discussion that would not be considered appropriate in polite society. The group and the column provide Sophie with a great sense of purpose, but she knows her involvement will soon have to end due to family circumstances. Her father is a drunkard and gambler and he has amassed sizable debts, which the family has no way to pay. Therefore, Sophie is to marry Lord Singleton, who has agreed to pay off the family's debts. Sophie does not love Lord Singleton and has been putting off announcement of the engagement, but she knows that once the "season" ends, she will have to do her duty to her family and get married. She cannot keep secrets from her husband and she knows that Lord Singleton would not approve of her involvement in The Debutante's Revenge or the Debutante Underground, so her participation will have to end once she is married.

The Debutante Underground is thriving and has attracted more members than their current meeting location can comfortably hold, so Sophie is on the lookout for a new location. One of the members mentions an old tailor shop nearby. Sophie decides to check it out and unexpectedly finds the door unlocked, so she decides to enter. Sophie quickly realizes that the shop is not empty, as she is confronted by Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, although he does not introduce himself. Sophie and Reese engage in a rather interesting conversation, first about her interest in the building and then about his lack of sleep. She brews him a cup of tea with valerian root and he enjoys the best night of sleep in a long time. He seeks her out a few days later and makes a proposition: if she spends the night with him (in a platonic sense), she can use the building rent free for her weekly meeting. Reese is convinced that Sophie's presence is the reason for his ability to sleep, not the valerian root tea. They reach an arrangement, with a set of strict rules dictated by Sophie, most important of which is that there is not to be any physical contact of any kind. Of course, events will occur that make this rule harder to uphold.

The book has a bit of a Beauty and the Beast vibe to it. Reese's inability to sleep is due to nightmares related to military service and the death of his older brother, Edmund, who was the Earl of Warshire. Reese lives in darkness and despair, believing that he is degraded and despicable. Sophie is not naïve and is quite knowledgeable when it comes to topics one can learn through books or conversation, but she is also rather innocent when it comes to matters of the heart and she tries hard to uphold social proprieties so as not to bring shame on her family. However, she possesses an inner daring that is evident in her association with The Debutante's Revenge and the Debutante Underground, and which will be challenged by her interactions with Reese.

The interactions between Reese and Sophie are quite enjoyable, both the witty repartee and how they spend their time together, including pushing boundaries. Reese and Sophie challenge each other and help each other better understand themselves. It is obvious once they meet that they will end up together; it is just a matter of how the author will go about resolving the problem of Sophie's pending engagement to Lord Singleton. The solution is quite good. Lord Singleton ends up with the person I expected, but how that comes about was not how I expected. One of the aspects of the book I particularly liked was the garden at Warshire Manor, which was modelled after the Underworld, which Reese had not realized until Sophie pointed it out. Sophie enjoys gardening and suggests a variety of improvements to the garden, which Reese implements. The garden plays a significant role in their evolving relationship. The story contains one of the most sensual love scenes that does not involve any actual physical contact. I would certainly recommend this book.

I received a copy of the e-book via NetGalley in exchange for a review.

This was a well written slow burn romance. For me slow burn is a huge win. I love the build up to the HEA. I also really love historical romances. I like the whole I must marry a man of means to save my family but I’m going to unintentionally fall for someone else. Sophie and Reese are adorable. I liked how Reese was able to get help for his survivors guilt. So often these issues are brushed upon but never like this. I am so happy to have read this!
