I received an ARC of When You Wish Upon A Rogue by Anna Bennett from Netgalley. This is the first book I have read by this author. Sophie Kendall runs the Debutante's Revenge Column as well as the Debutante Underground Club. Henry Reese is the Earl of Warshire and tormented hero, who has to leave behind his fellow armymen with the death of his older brother. The author does a fabulous job of making us feel his fears and pains. Sophie's parents have arranged a marriage of convenience for her (which she is not happy with). Reese believes that only Sophie can help him with his insomnia and bring his life peace and a calmness that he is missing. Their unexpected meeting, their consequential meetings bring them closer to each other but, alas, they are unable to follow their hearts. This may have been my first book by Anna Bennett, but it certainly won't be my last.

This was a fun, improbable regency escape with witty, passionate characters and a mild twist at the end. All in all a lovely way to spend an afternoon, but slightly forgettable, compared to the previous books in the series. Recommend!

Friday night meetings of The Debutantes Revenge brings together ladies from different levels of society. Discussing their observations, dreams and tribulations gives them an outlet, especially when they have them printed in the paper with cartoons. Looking for a new meeting location for their expanding group, Sophie investigates and empty tailor shop. An encounter with the owner of the shop is Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire. A troubled man, he suffers from nightmares from his time in the war. With Sophie's kind heart, she soothes him to sleep. Soon they form an unbreakable bond, but Sophie is committed to marrying another. Highly emotional for a couple meant to be together, Including some pretty hot sex.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Chemistry! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was excited to see a continuation of The Debutante Diaries series (although each book can be read as a stand alone). Sophie believes she must sacrifice her wants and desires to marry someone she does not love in order to bring wealth to her family. Reese just wants to sleep and not be bothered by responsibilities. When these two strike a deal, the emotional and sexual tension between them is steamy! Reese in my opinion was a little too good to be true with being in situations with Sophie but it was a sweet romance nonetheless. I really have nothing but high praise for Ms. Bennett’s writing style and storylines – very well thought out with twists and turns and of course plenty of romance. I highly recommend for you to read this book. I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book was a lot of fun and I couldn't put it down. The hero and heroine are both very likeable and the conflict has to do with duty over desire on the part of the heroine and guilt and self-loathing on the part of the hero. But they are both kind-hearted and generous people so you will be routing for them from page one. The women's secret club is a fun addition and I enjoyed how some of those characters had parts to play in solving the hero's guilt.

DNF
The writing voice just isn't working for me and I'm frustrated by how lackluster the romantic arc is. I can't pinpoint any one reason, but I feel bored and can't summon the will to read more. Not for me but YMMV.

Reese is the type of hero that you just want to hold tight in your arms and never let go. Wow, what a story this was, my emotions got so involved and I'm not ashamed to admit I broke down crying a few times!
Sophie agrees to help Reese overcome his insomnia in exchange for the use of the abandoned shop he owns for her secret meetings with the Debutante Underground group. Her kindness, compassion and innocence are a soothing balm to Reese's tortured soul. They meet once a week to spend the night together and even with the rule of "no touching", they form a bond and a love that surpasses all others. Unfortunately, Sophie is soon to be betrothed to a man she doesn't love, to protect her family from destitution. If only she could marry Reese but he doesn't have the funds to help her out. Heartbreak....heartache.....hopelessness...magical time spent together....heated passions....facing your demons.....forgiving yourself.....yes, it's all in this story.
This is so well written, it pulls at your emotions and you just don't want to put the book down, that's how good it is. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

An enjoyable enough way to spend a day or two, even if it’s nothing overly remarkable. This was an easy read but not going on my to read again list.

“Follow your dreams. And never, ever apologize for who you are.”
Sophie Kendell is kind hearted to a fault. Always willing to help and putting family first, she has agreed to a loveless marriage to keep her family’s finances solvent. But their destitute state isn’t the only secret Sophie is hiding. Sophie is the founding member of the Debutante Underground, a secret group of women that meet weekly to discuss freely without worry of station status the advice column, The Debutante’s Revenge. As word of the group spreads, Sophie finds herself seeking out a larger meeting space, and when she investigates an abandoned shop that will suit her needs, she stumbles upon a man desperately in need of her compassion.
Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, believes he is looking into the eyes of an angel. Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Reese has not been able to sleep for days on end. So, when his beautiful mirage soothes him with her voice and a cup of tea, Reese drifts off and is finally able to find some peace. Desperate to once again find slumber, Reese offers the use of his building in exchange for Sophie to spend one night a week with him…but will one night be enough for either of them…
Never have two souls needed each other more than Sophie and Reese…but will love be enough to keep them together, or will Reese’s past and Sophie’s obligation to family keep true love from conquering all…
Dear Reader, I absolutely LOVED this book! For me, it was the perfect romantic read…the drama is minimal, the hero broken yet able to reach out for help, and the heroine strong and compassionate. The heat level is just enough to get your heart racing, and the love between them is swoon worthy. Anna Bennett’s When You Wish Upon a Rogue was impossible to put down, and honestly wish I could give it more than 5 Stars!
**I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. **

This was a fast and unputdownable read. I enjoyed all the characters. Though I must admit I didn’t realize this was part of a series, and this is the first one I read by this author. I will say this was not like my typical romance that I normally read, and the “I love you but I can’t marry you” storyline totally annoyed me. The characters however, were entertaining and quite fun and I loved his garden and I’m not a garden person. I loved how free they were with each other. The ending was perfect, and not what I was expecting. As a whole good job!

This was a fun end to the series, I kept on expecting them to get caught with their meetings in odd places and was happy when it didn't happen.

I could actually have seen this book ending in 3 to 4 other ways. I would have been okay with a couple of them I think but this ending is my favorite.
For a lot of, When You Wish Upon a Rogue, I felt that Sophie and Reese were playing house. How they did not get caught is beyond me. It made it a lot more fun to read.

Read through chapter 4. Hero was a bit dark for me. Heroine was a little too naive to be believable. If you have read the other two books in the series, which I admittedly have not, then this may be a great ending to the series.
Sorry I did not like it better.
Thanks to Netgalley and St Martins Press for the Advanced reader copy.

3.5 stars. Consent is sexy, folks. So is feminism. Definitely enjoyed that part of this book, and didn’t feel like I had to read the first two books in the series to understand this one. There were a couple twists I saw coming, others I didn’t, What took me out of the story most was the name of a side character, Lady Rufflebum - it took me a minute before I realized that wasn’t a pseudonym.

I thought this book was well written. I loved the characters, especially Reese, he is kind, sensitive, thoughtful. With all of those wonderful characteristics, he thinks he’s unworthy of being an Earl and the love of Sophie. It was a great story of acceptance and self worth as well as a love story.

Yes, this is a nice romance with just enough steamy to make is a fun read.. The story was well told. I liked the book.

I enjoyed this book. Had a bit of a gothic air to the scene setting, but such a good romance. If I think too hard about I would just wonder how the heroine had such freedom of movement as an unmarried woman, but I still liked the tale.

While I loved Reese and Sophie, I felt myself skipping parts. I didn't understand the whole Singleton thing. If he likes the sister (which I'm not really sure) why not just marry her instead of Sophie. There were too many loose ends quickly wrapped up (pregnancy, a widow, lost journal, soon to be engagement, suicide).

A perfectly serviceable book to end this series. Was the set up a bit farfetched, given the time period? Yes. Even with a fair amount of suspension of disbelief, it was a bit difficult to believe the plot of the book. I enjoyed seeing characters from previous novels, but I wish there had been a few more realistic scenes.
Thank you, NetGalley, for providing an ARC for me to read and review.

Anna Bennett is fast becoming one of my "go to" authors for Romance. Reese and Sophie are quite the pair. I loved this book from the moment I picked it up. Reese and Sophie connect in a way that makes the reader root for them from their first meeting.
