I really liked this story. It was an easy read to get into and I spent the day reading it. The main characters, Sophie and Reese, are strong characters that are both endearing at the same time. I wanted to walk in the garden and swim in the lake with them. I only wish there was an epilogue to see where the relationship progressed to in a few years.

Something about this book sucked me right in and I loved it! This is the third in the series, and I have read them all. It was nice to see Sophie get her HEA and I just loved her with Reese. Some might consider their story a bit saccharine and overly sweet, but I was in the mood for that and though it was a bit over the top it balanced itself with the storyline of the the Debutante Underground and Sophie's almost engagement to another. Also, the twist at the end... no spoilers but i did not see that coming.

5 stars for the first 60% of the book.
Needing a place to hold her secret Debutante Underground meetings, Miss Sophie Kendall goes against her typical instincts and breaks into, what was thought to be an abandoned building. It turns out the owner, Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire was inside, The pair come up with an unusual arrangement for Sophie to be given use the building. In doing so a beautiful friendship is formed. This started to build into more but Sophie was promised in marriage to someone else. Despite that, the friendship and romance continued and it was beautiful and gripping. Then Sophie, who seemed daring up until this point, does a complete 180 and insists the only way to solve her family problems is to marry someone she doesn’t love. Being a crucial member of the Debutante Underground made her seem like a hypocrite at that point. Between that and the quick, yet odd remedy to the crux of the dilemma, left me disappointed in the heroine. Reese was pure gold and should have been fought over, not left waiting in the wings for the heroine to grow a backbone. I loved this one until I only liked it.

It was fun to return to the Debutante Diaries series for Sophie's story. What brought Sophie and Henry together was a different twist on things and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to more books from Anna Bennett in the future.

While I liked some of the unconventional themes in this story, there were too many things that were so implausible for the time period that it prevented me from fully immersing myself. It seemed like the author gave the characters modern day behaviours in a Regency setting. It was a decent read with interesting characters.

This is book 3 in the Debutante Diaries series and I have to admit that I have not read the previous book and you don't really need to read the previous books to follow this story. I very much enjoyed this one. It kept me entertained.

This is the third book in the Debutante Diaries series by Anna Bennett and my favorite of the three thus far.

Our Heroine:
Miss Sophie Kendall. She is a member of the Debutante Underground, a society of women who discuss a weekly advice column called the Debutante’s Revenge. These women are ahead of their time with their thinking, and discuss topics not necessarily deemed appropriate for their station in life, seeing as our heroine lives during the 1800s. Our Miss Sophie is intelligent and independent, though loyal. And because of this loyalty, she’s willing to sacrifice her happiness by entering a loveless marriage in order to save her family from financial ruin. Yes, we can blame her father’s careless handling of their finances.

Our Hero:
The Earl of Warshire, Henry Reese. He’s an insomniac suffering from PTSD. When he finds Miss Sophie entering one of his abandoned London properties, he’s none too happy. As this is a place he desperately tries to find solace and refuge. Where he might be able to find a way to catch some much needed sleep.

The Match of the Season:
Instead of reporting her to the authorities for breaking and entering, Henry decides to make a deal with Miss Sophie. She can use his abandoned property for her clandestine meetings if she agrees to stay with him one night a week. Because there is something about Sophie that calms Henry, and for the first time in forever, he’s able to rest.

Sophie knows this is quite untoward, to spend a night unchaperoned with a gentleman. But she desperately needs this space for the Debutante Undergound meetings. And so, she acquiesces. And the more time she spends with Henry, the more she grieves the loss of love and independence when she must marry.

But of course, Harry knows he can’t lose Sophie. Might he even admit he’s falling for her? Harry does a fine job of wooing, eventually convincing Sophie to spend time beyond the ‘one night a week in his abandoned London property’ arrangement. Turns out our grumpy Earl is actually a romantic at heart, and his attempts to woo feel almost fantasy dream-like. And while this storyline may not be realistic, it is delicious brain candy.

For me, this has all the ingredients I love in a historical romance. A Happily Ever After our couple has to work for, a swoon-worthy imperfect hero, a strong heroine who saves our hero, and Chemistry! I cannot wait to read what’s next for Ms. Bennett. Her stories always captivate and sweep me off to a fairyland of nobility and happy endings. I always can escape with her books and always feel warm fuzzies in the end.

This story is charming and irresistible. My only regret is that it had to end. As it was a great escape read.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a really fun read! I really enjoyed the Debutante Underground and felt that it gave the book a difference from other historical romances. I will say that the plot seemed a little forced...as if the characters were just using minor things to keep themselves apart as it seemed like the love interest would be perfectly acceptable to the FMC's family, especially since it seemed like the love interest was just as well off as the one they wanted her to marry. Ignoring that though, the love story was sweet and I enjoyed seeing it play out.

This book was a good historical romance! I had never read this author before, but she is definitely one I'll be adding to my TBR. The romance between Sophie and Reese is a slow burn, but it was good slow burn and I really liked Sophie as a character.

This definitely entertained me and it was a great escape !

A witty, charming read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this romance between the war-ravaged and instantly smitten Reese, and headstrong and compassionate Sophie. He thinks she has some mystical power to help him sleep and ease his demons, but really, her practical care alleviates his insomnia. For her part, caring for Reese takes her mind off her impending marriage, arranged to rescue her family from their dire financial straits. The main characters were a perfect match and I couldn't help but root for them to be together.

There's banter, romance, emotional growth, and a happy ending for all involved - although this was slightly marred by me wanting to give two of the supporting characters a swift cuff to the head. A novella from their perspective may make me more favourably inclined to the secondary couple. In fact, I'd quite like to read that, because I liked this book except for what those two did.

Although this is the third in its series, I did not feel confused or overwhelmed by what I've missed. Sophie's friends are perfectly supportive without being overbearing and I suspect that I would enjoy reading their own happy endings as well.

I really enjoyed When You Wish Upon a Rogue. The storyline had a few different twists to it that made it a little different from many other historical romances.

Both Sophie and Reese were characters that drew me in and made it easy to invest in them and their story. Sophie is a strong and confident young woman with goals and aspirations. She isn't one to sit idly by and let a husband make her into "window dressing." However, that's exactly what she's relegated to when her father racks up debts and has no other way save their family from destitution.

Reese is an earl and is new to his title. He is carrying an enormous amount of personal baggage which haunts him and makes it nearly impossible for him to sleep. In addition, he inherited a tremendous amount of debt and bad decisions from his brother with the estate.

Sophie and Reese meet by chance and gradually fall for one another. Unfortunately, their happy ever after is challenged by her need for funds and his lack of funds. He knows if he just had a little more time, he could become financially stable and ask for Sophie's hand. Sadly, Sophie doesn't have the luxury of time. Will these two lovebirds be able to figure out a way to be together....you'll have to read the book to find out and experience the full story.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first book by author Anna Bennett, but I believe I will be looking for her others in the near future!

When You Wish Upon a Rogue, is a regency romance with some serious steam. Sophie Kendall and her three friends are responsible for the newspaper column, "The Debutante's Revenge" - one of them writes it, another illustrates it, and Sophie does the research to come up with the ideas. Done anonymously, the column covers all of the juicy topics that demure debutantes are supposed to shrink away from. Once a week, Sophie chairs a meeting of "The Debutante Underground" - all women, all ages, married and unmarried - where they discuss that week's column. They keep it secret because they would expect repercussions from the rather repressed society around them.

When the Debutante Underground outgrows their meeting space, Sophie sets out to find them a new spot. As she checks out an abandoned building nearby, she runs into - quite literally - the owner, who she assumes is the pharmacist whose name is on the door. As she talks with the man, she realizes he is in pain, and seeks to help. Her solution is tea and conversation, which does exactly what he needs - it puts him to sleep. Sophie knows she won't see the intriguing man again - she is promised to another, and must marry into great wealth to rescue her family from the poorhouse. But, if she could choose...

Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, came home from war when his brother died. He inherited a title, and a crumbling ruin of an estate with little to recommend it. To top everything off, he hasn't slept in weeks. Then, into his dark world walks bright Sophie and for the first time in months, he sleeps. Could Sophie be the tonic he needs?

I loved the romance of this story. Reese goes out of his way to show Sophie that she matters to him, and Sophie realizes more and more that if she marries the man her father has chosen for her, he will never have her heart. Can they find a way to both help her family, and be together?

Readers of regency romance, should pick this one up. I know I loved it!

When You Wish Upon a Rogue by Anna Bennett was fun to read. Miss Sophie Kendall and Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire, formed a friendship based on need. She needed his property in town to hold her secret meetings and he needed her help to sleep. This was such an enjoyable read, and the characters were well written.

REVIEW
It's not uncommon for characters of historical romance to have some sort of arrangement or agreement around which the story is built. When You Wish Upon A Rogue involves debutantes and insomnia. Sophie and Reese have a beneficial relationship set up, but could it develop into something more than friendship? This story is unique, witty, charming and does not disappoint. Check it out!

I have enjoyed all three of these Debutante books. Each is unique and stand-alone, but referencing the prior novels. Sophie and Reese make great protagonists, each having issues they are dealing with, and yet coming together in their ‘lost-ness’. We’ve seen the storyline of a marriage of convenience while in love with another many times, yet Ms Bennett manages to put some new twists and slants to this one to make it feel different. I really liked our hero, Reese. He was a tortured soul, suffering from insomnia, yet sees a path to redemption with Sophie’s help. Sophie has a much harder time of it, saving her family from ruin through an advantageous marriage she doesn’t want, yet she, too, finds a path to follow that lets her find happiness. Not quite five stars, because I could see the ending coming a long ways off (and not just the HEA). A good, highly entertaining read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my freely given, honest review.

Miss Sophie Kendall and Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire met under unusual circumstances. Perhaps this was why their relationship became most unusual. She needed the use of a building he owned and he needed to sleep. An agreement was reached and a relationship developed. But, can it lead to a happy ending?
This is an absolutely delightful story about characters who readers will care about. The dialogue is lively and often witty. Filled with passion and heart, this story is well worth reading.

After reading so many historical novels, the plots turn out to be somewhat similar to each other, but I confess that I had never read a story whose male character had serious problems with insomnia and could only sleep with the presence of the female character.
And believe me, at first none of this had any sex appeal.

But let's start at the beginning.
Miss Sophie Kendall was the only one among the three friends - Fiona and Lily - who remained single. The three had made a pact to faithfully keep journals about their experiences as they entered the marriage mart and fell in love.
Fiona had married a dashing Earl, and Lily made a love match with a brooding duke.

Sophie's older sister, Mary, was always beautiful and was the parents' greatest hope for a great wedding. But when child she nearly succumbed to a scarlet fever. Mary survived but became a shadow of what she could be. Now, all the family's hopes have fallen on Sophie's shoulders.
There was a strong candidate to marry Sophie. Lord Singleton. But even though he didn't look disgusting and had money, Sophie didn't feel close to him.

Sophie was the leader of a secret female group called the Debutante Underground. They met once a week and debated on subjects of Morning's edition of the London Hearsay, folded open to the Debutante's Revenge, which was written by Lily.
The group was growing larger and Sophie needed to find another place for the meetings. That was when she heard that an old tailor's shop was closed, and she went to see if she could rent it.

There, she meets a gentleman - who thinks he is the tailor.
This man was peeved and showed clear signs of someone who had trouble sleeping. Since Sophie's mother also suffered from insomnia, she always got a plant that when drinking tea helped to relax.
And that happens to the gentleman.

In fact, the gentleman owned the store and it was Henry Reese, Earl of Warshire.
He had recently inherited the title with the death of his older brother.
Henry carried some ghosts on his shoulders. He was a soldier, and he preferred to be one, but he had to take the place that rightfully belonged to his brother.

After so long without being able to relax and sleep, he was happy to have had an uninterrupted night's sleep.
The problem was that just the tea had no effect.
There was something about the mix of drinking the tea and Sophie's company.

Then, his valet found out how he could meet Sophie - at Lady Rufflebum's ball - where he proposed to Sophie that she could rent his store (no questions why she wanted the place) if she helped him sleep other nights.

Crazy, isn't it?

And in these clandestine meetings, some secrets were discovered and the most important of them, now, they did not want the night to sleep... only.

Have fun and fall in love with this couple who know each other in the most unlikely situation of all.
