A captivating story line that blends science fiction and romance. This is the second book in the series and it should be read in.order since the plot continues to evolve.

After finishing the book I realized this was the second instalment in the series but that did not take away from enjoying it and enough context is provided to follow the story.

The magic theme in concept was great but it was not well developed in the book. We only received crumbs of information that did not get expanded on later. Although I feel like the author wanted the relationship between Lia and Con to be the focus of the book there were constant references to bigger themes that did not get developed and got lost in the story.

Overall it was an enjoyable book to read and the next instalment is on my list, however the pacing gives whiplash, as the first 80% of the book is extremely slow and the last 20% condenses a lot of the most interesting parts of the plot.

Note: I received a copy of the book in exchange of an honest and unbiased review.

I'm so glad I continued this series! The characters grew and I felt sucked into the story line. Plenty of action to hold my interest without losing the feeling of a solid foundation behind it all.

Even though I wasn't a fan of book one in this series, I tried to give book 2 a fair shot, but still couldn't get into this series.. The characters and world building wasn't there for me and I felt like the story moved too slow most of the time. The overall plot/premise is a great concept, just not well executed.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

While I was late getting around to it, I really enjoyed “The Orchid Throne.” But I’ll be honest, one of the reasons I finally picked it up was because of the growing guilt from my NetGalley shelf glaring at me with this book, the sequel, continuously sitting there as a request I placed waaaaaay back in 2020 that I still hadn’t read or reviewed. Lucky for me, the first book was good enough that it was quite easy to jump back into this world with only a small reading break between novels.

While Conri has technically “claimed the hand that wears the Orchid Ring” by marrying the queen of Calanthe, Lia, he doesn’t feel any closer to his goal of killing the cruel emperor Anure. Instead, he feels bogged down and trapped on a beautiful island where no one seems to be taking the threat of war seriously. Little does he know that no one takes the threat of war more seriously than Calanthe’s queen, Lia. Calanthe holds secrets, and as Conri begins to learn more about the land he now co-rules and the woman he’s now married to, he begins to see that his own view of the world and its priorities may, in fact, be what was misordered all along.

This story picks up immediately where “The Orchid Throne” leaves off. Meaning, Lia and Conri are still only about a week into their new marriage, and as such, are still very much struggling to understand each other and the shifting dynamics that make up their relationship. I really liked everything we got from these two and this marriage of convenience. For one thing, I appreciated the conversation that was had about the fact that attraction and chemistry, while great, do not on their own make a match made in heaven. Indeed, while Conri and Lia both appreciate the sparks in the bedroom, this compatibility makes it all the more bemusing when they butt heads again and again in other arenas. Particularly, I enjoyed the continued look at how both Conri and Lia approach leadership and their conflicting priorities. We also see how easy it is to misunderstand another person’s motives and motivations, especially when we switch perspectives between the two and see one scene interpreted very differently between them both.

I also liked their individual stories. For Lia, she must grapple with the balance between strength and vulnerability, private and public, and how to navigate ruling a land and planning a way with a man she only halfway trusts. For Conri, we see his ongoing struggles to continue a mission that he had created his entire self of sense around while at the same time grappling with the idea that his approach, to care about nothing but the mission, may not be the strength he thought it was, but instead, a weakness.

I was also surprised by the second act of this book. While the first half is concerned with a lot of this character work that I’ve been describing, the second one really gets going on the action front. The first book was pretty light on this stuff, and I had gone into this one not expecting much conflict until the third and final book in the trilogy. Boy, oh, boy was I wrong! We have battles, we have blood, we have, yes, even death. It was pretty non-stop there at the end, and I enjoyed it all.

I really have very few qualms about this story. I don’t know if it’s doing anything particularly masterful, but then again, why should it? It’s a thoroughly enjoyable fantasy story with two very sympathetic leading characters. This book also set up a lot of pretty big world events that will need to be dealt with in the third book, and I’m very excited to see how this all gets wrapped up. If you enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, this is definitely a solid sequel that’s sure to please.

Rating 8: An intriguing look into the intricacies of a new marriage, where the person you love most can also be the person you least understand.

This book basically embodies everything I do not like to read LOL. TBH I did not finish it either.
It's scify, it's romance, it's not mine...

For all of you who's genre it is: ENJOY ! :)

An amazing installment in the Forgotten Empires series! I love how Conri and Lia began to work with each other in this one as the relationship between them also progressed! The world-building is fantastic and I loved the mix of political intrigue, magic and romance!

**Thank you, Netgalley and publisher, for giving me an electronic ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

Although this book felt like a filler, I really enjoyed the character dynamics. I liked how the characters were split; one was bent on revenge, and the other was the complete opposite.

This is the second book in the Forgotten Empire series. While I loved the first book, this one was hard to get through. I felt like this book was not necessary because it mostly seemed like a filler plot rather than a real novel. Therefore, this novel fell short of my expectations. I think that this series should have been only while one novel rather than multiple books.

I received this book from NetGalley for review.

The second book in the Forgotten Empires trilogy. Conri and Lia are back, and revenge is what Conri is after. I love the character development between the two. I also love that one is hell bent on revenge and the other on saving their people. Looking forward to the last installment of this trilogy.

In theory, a series like this one is something I really enjoy reading. I've read other work by Jeffe before which I really liked and was also the reason why I was excited to read this series.

Book 1 was entertaining, but also didn't capture me the way I was hoping for before hand. But it was good enough to continue. But despite the fact that The Fiery Crown picks up it's pace, it's still too much of a typical 2nd book in a series that's also noy really original/sursprising. It was an okay read for me, but feeling wise it just doesn't make me as excited as I would want it to.

So I do rate it 3 stars still because in general Jeffe has a writing style that I can easily read through, the set up of it all and the characters etc is fun enough to read. It's definitely not DNF worthy material for me. But because after 2 books I'm still not As excited as I would want to be, I don't think I'll be continuing with the series. There's just so much anticipated reads waiting on my tbr and time is precious so I'm trying to be more honest to myself mostly and more 'picky' as to what I'm picking up in the future.

The series in general is one I still recommend to pick up if it looks interesting to you.
Jeffe's writing in general is good and worthy of finding out for yourself to see what you'll think of it :)

this is my fault, but when requesting this book I didn't do my research to see if it was part of the series. I remember reading the synopsis on here and thinking this sounds so intriguing and I didn't pick up on any details that this is a second book to a series. So I went on to read the first book prior to starting this and unfortunately I couldn't get through book one. With that being said I feel as though I cannot give this book the proper review it deserves. This is entirely on my part and nothing on the author or the work.

This is book 2 of the Forgotten Empires Series. Queen Euthalia has ruled over her kingdom and marries for love. But will the prophecy come true and the empire fall? Can her husband get the revenge he seeks, or will everything blow up on them both?

This is the second book in a series which is usually the slowest book in a series. Unfortunately this book fell into that. It was a filler book but at least we got a battle scene at the end!

I will be honest that I couldn't finish this book, I wanted to, but I was really lost with all the details in it, and I definitely needed the first book and I wanted more couple time, I feel like there was not enough focus on the relationship and I couldn't stay involved in the story enough to keep with it. Its really challenging to keep with a story that you feel like you are forcing yourself to read. I will be trying the audiobooks for the series instead and see if my feelings on these books change. *crossing fingers* that will happen

Often, I've found that the first book to a series is so good that the 2nd book will never live up to it. That is the case here. Is this book supposed to be filler until book 3? Nothing happened until the battle at the end. Nothing happened. The characters stood around talking and planning. I'm all for character development, but something needs to happen!

What a fascinating book. I was impressed by the storyline and the characters were all well written and complex. Where there are complex storylines combined with intriguing characters the reader experience is magnified tremendously. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Here I forgot about my own life and was immersed in the world created by the author. I would recommend this book.
