This is an adorable book about a little girl cat who is starting Taekwondo lessons and all she wants to do it learn how to break the board. The instructor explains to her that it is a process and it will take time and process to master Taekwondo.. She works hard and practices even though it doesn't come easy to her. She starts earning her belts and finally, with the encouraging words of some friends, breaks the board! I love that the book begins with the Twaekwondo Oath and ends with definitions of some Korean terms used in Twaekwondo. So fun, I loved it!

Let's be honest, I requested this solely for the cats. It was a cute book with nice illustrations. I think any child interested in Martial Arts would enjoy it.

I'll always enjoy a book that focuses on a theme I don't often see. Which in this case is Tae Kwon Do. Many of the children I know practice some form of martial arts. While this book is geared toward younger children this board breaking cat should earn a spot on your shelf. Discipline, patience, and perseverance will be easily digested by children even if those words aren't in their vocabulary yet.

Really cute book. Self-reliance and the benefits of sticking with something even though it can be difficult at first. I actually learned a lot about Tae Kwon Do and I am sure kids will too.

A book for those children who want to learn Taekwando and who do not give up, in this book shows us the story of a kitten who eagerly begins a new adventure and who admires, as she progresses introduces us to the lessons that his teacher teaches him to be patient, to practice and to persevere, we see mutual help among his peers, and all this with beautiful illustrations.
A book to give you a child, nephew, or acquaintance, will undoubtedly be a reading that will mark your lives.

The lesson, illustrations, and narrative are great, especially at the climax of the story. The use of words commonly used in Taekwondo may confuse young readers but is a fantastic opportunity to practice vocabulary in context skills. The glossary in back will also be of great help.

An excellent introduction for young children interested in Taekwando (or who just love cute cats). The principles of patience, practice, and perseverance shine through the storyline. I appreciated that Kitten did not receive instant gratification breaking the board (even after all of her preparation). That is a lesson that will resonate with children, as it is often the case that even with practice, tasks are still difficult and require even more practice. Detlefsen has created a wonderful story that comes to life with Hunting's artwork.

Carowinds is kitten's journey towards learning how to break a board. She was excited to start taekwondo, but was discouraged after struggling in the first class. Her friends encourage her and with lots of practice, she starts to improve. I think lots of kids will love the fun aspect of cats and teakwood. It also has a great message of friends helping friends and to never give up.

Catkwondo follows Kitten, who's determined to learn to break a board in taekwondo. But to do that, she'll need to start at a white belt, and practice the values and movements from Master Cat.

This was a quick read, encouraging kids to keep going when they're starting something new and struggling to pick it up. It can be frustrating for younger (and older!) readers to begin learning a new skill. Her classmates and teacher encourage her to continue trying, and celebrate her achievements.

I thought the illustrations by Erin Hunting were adorable, and paired with the text by Lisl H. Detlefsen quite well.

There's also a list of Korean terms used at the back of the book so kids can understand the words Kitten and Master Cat use in class.

Kitten is a new student to taekwondo. and wants nothing more than to break a board with her foot. With help from her sabeomnim (instructor) and other students in the class, Kitten works hard in the class. But will all of that hard work pay off enough to help her reach her goal? Catkwondo helps readers see that with hard work, help from others, and perseverance, we have the ability to reach our goals.

This little Kitten is excited to start Taekwondo class-- she's ready to break some boards with just her paws! Master Cat says she has a lot of practicing to do before she gets there... Patience, Kitten! Catkwondo is an adorable book with the timeless message of reaching for your goals and having the determination to keep going, even if it seems impossible. Practice makes perfect, and Kitten isn't giving up!

This book was adorable! I love that the vocabulary was included in the back for those tricky taekwondo words. I would honestly recommend this to anyone. However, I highly recommend it to kids interested in martial arts.

This kitten is the cutest thing ever. I got this book because of the cover. It is a great story on perseverance. There were some words that I had no idea to pronounce. I thought "when I get to the end, I will look the words up and reread it". However, I didn't need to do that. There is a glossary in the back of book. I will be buying this for our library.

This is a cute book about a little kitten who puts in the work and achieves her goal! I don't know much about taeknondo, but I'm sure kids who participate in the sport would absolutely love this book. I appreciated the glossary at the back of the book!

I got this picture book because the title and cover looked adorable. And I was not let down. I learned so much about taekwondo from reading this book. The terms in the back of the book helped with understanding the language of the art. This would be a great bedtime story. Plus the art style is just adorable.

The determination that the kitten has is amazing. She wants to break a board and she learns the steps that are needed in order to achieve the goal. It shows children how determination will help them achieve their goals. It will help start goals and actually achieve them at a young age.

I picked out Catkwondo to request because of the adorable little kitty on the cover. While I did enjoy the illustrations throughout, I found the storyline a little lacking. This isn't a book that all children will enjoy, but it is a book that children interested in martial arts will enjoy. I did appreciate the Korean words thrown throughout the story as well as the glossary of these words in the back of the book. This type type of diversity is needed in stories. Overall I gave this book a 3/5 just because it wasn't a story for me, or for any child that I know as well as for being a little flat in the storyline. The pictures are adorable and I know if I ever have a child in my life that loves Karate or Taekwondo that I will get this book for them.

Kitten wants to break a board, and while she is disappointed it won't happen the first day of class she puts in the work, moves through the belts and finally comes the day for her to try and break the board.

This was a very cute book on patience, perseverance, and coming together as a team. I believe most children will enjoy this book and even though they might learn something. The illustrations are so cute this will soon become a fast favorite.

This was a brilliant book! We loved how fun it was and the illustrations were so vivid and wonderful. It was great to read as the cat tried and tried to achieve their goal and was finally successful. It teaches a great lesson and is still a brilliantly fun read.

This is a great and adorable book about the hard work and perseverance needed to reach your goals. I have no knowledge on anything taekwondo and so reading through it I kept thinking that I has no idea what words meant nor how to even pronounce them so I was super happy to see a little glossary at the back! They provide pronunciations as well as definitions on all the tricky words which really helped. I found the writing a bit lacking, not just because there aren't many words, but I didn't feel like the writing carried the story as much as the illustrations did. The illustrations were very clean, bright, and fun. I think this would be a perfect book if your child is in taekwondo and especially if they're having a bit of trouble; I think this book would show them how struggling to reach the end goal is normal but with hard work you can do it.
