For such a deep conversation this is actually when you look at the page numbers a very bare bones book but it works! It is an amazing book that uses the few spares pages it has been allotted to be able to pass its message on straightforward and with no deviation.

For very young readers who are still learning to read some of the words and the length may be problematic but for older readers this book will be easy to read. Each page presents a main concept or two that is followed by sentences that respond to the concept(s) with brief and straightforward answers. Everything you need to mostly know right there on the same page.

The illustrations are brightly done photographs of people helping out and participating in their own communities without really giving a name to such. The only main suggestion that these people are possibly from a bigger city is since of the Mexican festival in one of the photographs.

After providing readers with some ideas how they can also help out in their communities there is a simple art project at the end. This project is for message stones and will be a fun art project that will allow children to easily contribute to their own communities with art and until they can figure out how they would also like to leave their footprint.

This book definitely reminded me of the type of community I grew up in and how much I miss in comparison to the community I live in now. As such and due to the circumstances of the times right now I would strongly desire to just collect as many of these books as possible then force people to read them as a reminder of what we are losing every day more and more so. But I am not a bully and so will leave it at that.

What is a community? Who is in our community? How can we help our community? All of these questions are discussed and accompanied by real photos of a diverse group of people in their own communities. I appreciate the real pictures because those will help younger children better relate to the concepts. They may better recognize themselves and family and friends in these pictures. The book also allows for discussion around the concepts. I would add it to my collection on community helpers for the classroom.

This book is a great resource for a classroom for children to share as a class or read on their own. The book shows photographs of people helping within their communities and explains how people can help and how they do it.
This book was easy to follow and understand.
