The story is twisty and turning and every time I thought I figured it out, it twisted again. While I appreciated all of the twists, I'm kind of left with a thought of "what just happened?" How did that all work out?
The book attempts to wrap everything up, but I'm still trying to piece together how it happened.
Anna, a newscaster, is an unlikeable unreliable narrator. Alcohol is her drug of choice and it clearly clouds how she looks at everything. Her ex-husband, Jack, is a detective who is naive and honestly, if I were on a police force, would be looking for some new hires. There are plenty of suspects and shady characters, and enough red herrings to go around. It was a quick read and I definitely wanted to know what happened, but to me, there was just too many twists and too many unreliable accounts that I wasn't sure what to believe.
The story starts with one body being found in the woods. Both Anna and Jack are there, trying to piece together what happened (albeit not well) as they both know the victim. More victims are found. The story alternates between Anna's point of view and Jack's. (Hers and his). But as we know - there are three sides to each story - his, hers, and the truth.

I enjoyed this book but I’ve enjoyed all of Alice Feeney’s books. It kept me nicely strung along and left all these little tidbits along the way to keep me appropriately going back and forth.
As they say, there are two sides to every story and this story went back and forth for you.
I thought it was written well. I can’t say it was perfect because I did catch myself rolling my eyes at one part but it was written well enough that I was able to give it 5 stars.

His & Hers by Alice Feeney

4.5 Stars
Man I love Alice Feeney. I picked up her first book at a “Penny-A-Page” sale at Books A Million and I was hooked. When I was approved to review her latest book His & Hers I was beyond excited. I wasn’t let down! His & Hers is everything I love in a thriller. I can honestly say I did NOT figure out “whodunit” until it was revealed. This book follows a divorced couple as they go back and investigate a crime in the town where they grew up. Once the investigation starts, more people that they both are involved with in different ways start showing up dead as well. It is written from 3 perspectives: his, hers, and “the truth”. The anonymous third narrator makes you think you have it all figured out, then makes you change your mind about 10 more times. A little slow to start, but by the end you will be highly entertained.
Thank you @Netgalley and @flatiorn_books for the gifted copy of this book!

So many things about this book!! Her first book left me confused but this one made up for it! All the characters had issues which made all their stories intersect so well. Usually i like a story that grabs you immediately but this one just played on everyones craziness and you knew they were all hiding lots of secrets. Loved how it all played out and all the secrets that kept popping up!!! Thank you Netgalley for the arc!!

This was definitely Feeney's best work to date. I suspected a lot of people, thought I was right, and then the epilogue completely took me by surprise. This book was read in two greedy sittings in one day; I just had to know who did it, and I was not disappointed. 4 stars, and I can't wait for her next one!

The back and forth between His and Hers makes the beginning of the book a little confusing, but a few chapters in and you're sucked in so much that you don't even notice anymore. I thought I'd figured it all out...only to find out I was wrong, oh so wrong...and then wrong again. His and Hers is full of dark twists and is a book you can barely put down!

Wow! This is my second book by Alice Feeney and she does not disappoint! This book had me guessing the whole time and I could not put it down! The only issue I had was with some of Anna’s memories. Sometimes they were a bit heavy for my taste and a little unbelievable but that was not enough to ruin the book for me. Thank you for the opportunity to read this great book!

Thank you Flatiron Books and Netgalley for this arc

Synopsis: When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement until he becomes a suspect in his murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.
How would you feel if someone you know is the case you need to cover and solve? Anna and Jack used to be married and were lead back to their old town only to find out that they both know the person who was murdered, and it didn’t end there. There is plenty more going on, and I had a headache from overanalyzing WTH is happening and who’s the killer. This story is told on both Anna and Jack’s POV and that creepy, mysterious third person. I was confident I had everything figured out a lil over halfway of the book, only to feel ashamed and shocked after, thanks to the author’s incredible twists! If you love a dark, twisted, and hair-raising read, this book is for you. Don't make assumptions like I did because Alice Feeney will surely blow your mind!

Fast-paced and engaging thriller!
Opens off with a blast and will get you hooked right away. And the ending is just amazing. The alternative narratives of Jack(his) and Anna(her) were interesting and kept the complicated plot more straightforward. The twists throughout seemed predictable but the brilliant twist at the end will blow your mind away.
It is definitely addictive!
The audio version was amazing. The killer voice was creepy and chilling. It was fun to listen as well.
It was more towards 4.5 stars!

I was absolutely riveted by Alice Feeney's debut Sometimes I Lie and let me tell you, readers, her latest novel His & Hers delivers as well! I was hooked from the first pages and found this book to be so compelling that I was taking any and all snatches of free time I had to keep reading more. The novel alternates perspectives with each chapter between "His" Jack Harper and "Hers" Anna Andrews. There's so much backstory between these two characters and also back story with Anna's childhood. So many layers, so many twists, so many jaw-dropping moments. The final twist... you won't see it coming. What a thriller! Many thanks to Flatiron Books for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Anna Andrews is the lunchtime news presenter for the BBC. Or, was, until the woman she was filling in for returns from maternity leave. Desperate to maintain relevant in a cut-throat world, Anna heads back to her hometown to cover a murder. Jack is a detective inspector who has never covered a murder before. Or, that’s what they want us to think.
Told from Anna and Jack’s point of view, with the anonymous killer’s thoughts sprinkled throughout, His & Hers by Alice Feeney is an exercise in instinct. Are you sure you can trust yours? What about being able to trust your sibling? Parent? Best friend? Husband?
Everyone wants to tell their story in the way that presents them in the best light. They want to justify every action they’ve made and, in the case of this book especially, need to know someone understands. What they’re doing is out of self preservation, to save someone else, to make right wrongs, to get revenge. And, after they tell you their motives, can you blame them?
But what echoes through the end of His & Hers isn’t even as clear cut as deciding what happened was justified. You have to decide for yourself if you’re finally hearing the truth.

Loved this book.... definitely her best yet. I love when a book is written from a duel perspective. This book kept me guessing who really done it and kept second guessing myself on who and what was going on.

Started out somewhat basic, but by the end I was completely invested! So many strong red herrings for who was killing these women.

I really enjoyed this book! It reminded me of Gone Girl with the unreliable narrator(s). And.... that surprise twist at the end had me reeling! I could have sworn that Zoe was the killer, but obviously that was wrong. This was a very quick read that had me fully consumed for a few days.

When a woman's body is found in the sleepy town of Blackdown, people are on edge. Two people particularly on edge are Anna Andrews and Jack Harper.
Anna has the job of her dreams as a TV presenter for the BBC, but her position is threatened when the woman she replaced comes back to reclaim her spot. While covering the murder in Blackdown, Anna finds out that the victim was a friend from her childhood.
Jack Harper became a detective in Blackdown to escape his past life in London. When he arrives on the murder scene, he is shocked to learn that he personally knows the victim. He actually knows the victim really well, but keeps it a secret because details of their relationship could put him in the hot seat as a suspect.
When more bodies start showing up, it's unclear who the real killer is as everyone seems to have something to hide and past secrets. I loved how the author kept the reader guessing. I thought I had everything figured out halfway through, then again at 3/4 of the way through, but by the end I had it all wrong. I love when an author throws in all kinds of twists and turns! I enjoyed His & Hers and look forward to more from this author!

I absolutely LOVED Alice Feeney’s Sometimes I lie, so I knew I needed to read this book!
I must say, Alice did not disappoint! The book was sooooo goood! As you may have noticed, I only gave this book a 4 star, even though I really loved the story, the pace was so slow for the majority of the book. It took forever for the story to pick up and at around ¾ quarters in, that’s when I couldn’t put it down.
The book is told between Anna Andrew’s POV, a reporter, and Jack Harper’s POV, a detective. You also get a glimpse of the killer’s POV. As you keep reading you feel like you already know where the story will lead you but oh how I was wrong!
The ending was absolutely mind-blowing! I would say more but honestly, I’m struggling to say more without inadvertently exposing spoilers! This book was the perfect dark, twisted, psychological thriller! I highly recommend.

Flipping loved it! 🖤🖤🖤
"There is a version of me I can only ever be with myself"
There are always two sides to a story...unless there are three!
His & Hers is a fantastic page-turner!
His:
Jack Harper works for the police in Blackdown, a sleepy town where nothing really ever happens. In his own words: "...since I left London, my job has been as dull a nun's underwear drawer."
With his occasional escapades with women to forget his divorce, he is struck at a loss when 3 murders happen within a few days from each other. All of them are women...all of them can be traced back to him in some way.
Hers:
Anna Andrews has worked terribly hard at becoming the permanent news reporter in Blackdown at the local news station. With a mother to take care of who suffers from dementia, she has become a workaholic and is hovering at the edge of becoming an alcoholic to drown out her divorce, the loss of her infant baby girl, and pesky coworkers trying to steal her position.
"If you don't scratch at the solitude, it starts to feel normal again soon enough. But I still think about him, and us, and her. "
Anna appears at the scene of each murder, ready to report. How is it that she has the know-how of these murders before official press releases?
Them:
Jack is realizing that there is evidence of the murders that have a common denominator - HIM, and someone is wanting him to know that they know.
Anna is wrestling to come to terms with her personal life and a picture that turns up and tears open old wounds from her High School days. The scary part is, the girls on that picture are the murdered woman of Blackdown. Will she be next?
This thriller is amazing. In terms of wordplay, the author ingeniously made it a very interesting guessing game making use of these pronouns and not spelling things out by name. Just about every chapter ends on a twist or cliffhanger. It is impossible to stop reading!
Somewhere along the way, the story gets interjected with specks of cursive writing, where someone tells about the orchestrated murder story and motive, but it doesn't come together till the end, which happens to be a race of life and death for both of the main characters.
Only someone knifing enough can orchestrate these murders and put all the pawns into play....but who can it be and what was the motivation?
Very clever and riveting read. Super fun and hair raising.
Definitely very worth reading.
Cheers!

Your best thriller yet, Alice Feeney! The His & Hers dual POVs plus the mysterious third person kept me guessing until the very end. I thought I was figuring things out, but kept misinterpreting the clues that were being dropped. So well done! Unreliable narrators to the nth degree. Loved all the pithy one-liners throughout. They are not necessarily motivational quotes for the most part, but would lend a philosophy class material for quite some time. The plot is by no means cozy. There is a vicious killer with an agenda. We also know that there are some mean girls who seem to have carried on with life leaving human and animal victims in their wake. Intricate and engaging. I was hooked from the first chapter.
Thank you to Flatiron Books and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

I was able to both listen and read His & Hers by Alice Feeney thanks to the generosity of Macmillan Audio, NetGalley, and Flatiron Books. I’m really grateful for this because I listen to audiobooks during the day and I read at night. I had a hard time turning His & Hers off so being able to transition over to a DRC and continue my fascination with this thriller was much appreciated!
There are three narrators in this story; Anna Andrews, her ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper and the killer themselves who uses a voice modulator so we are unable to ascertain their gender or anything else about them. Anna is a BBC reporter investigating a murder of a woman in the countryside village of Blackdown where she and Jack grew up, also where Jack now resides and works as a DCI. Things get a bit hairy when it turns out they both knew the victim and each had a fairly dodgy history with her. The story alternates timelines but does so in a way that gives insight in to the personal history of the characters involved. As more murders occur with Anna and Jack tied to the victims, it’s a race to find the killer before they strike again. One thing is certain, nobody can be trusted.
Fast paced with strong affecting characters and a twisty plot, His & Hers is a compelling read from start to finish. The complexity of the story adds to its allure and had me suspicious of everyone. Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine are perfect as narrators of Jack and Anna, the pacing is perfect and their voices a delight to listen to. The voice modulation of the killer is perfectly creepy and sent chills down my spine! Another fabulous story by Alice Feeney!

My favorite part of this book was the twist. There were points where I was questioning the character, but never gave much thought.
I really love the writing, but I was not a big fan how this story was told. I eat up how flow of the words, otherwise this book would have taken me ages to finish and then became a DNF.
Instead of a natural story unravel it was like walking up a ladder. And example is you learn right away about their child, but you don't find out to 66% of the book what happen. But it felt like every chapter you were given another line to tell what happen. All the plot points where like that, which also made it repetitive in spots.
I also didn't fully get the title. I didn't understand why we need the his pov when he had nothing really to do with the crimes.
