Don’t Look for Me by Wendy Walker

❶ The arc of the plot was good. The story kept moving and was engaging.
➋ It’s a typical psychological thriller. You know what you’re getting into. Nothing more, nothing less.
➌ It contains a couple twists that I didn’t see coming. A couple were pretty obvious but the ending was a little nutso.

❶ No clues for nutso ending! At least none that I picked up on. The ending was released and it was more of a “what?” than “ohhhh!”
➋ The main character annoyed me to the Nth degree. The daughter in particular is so annoying enough to deal with, horrible mistake after horrible mistake. It’s hard to empathize with her at all but I can see how the younger crowd might enjoy her... hobbies 😂
➌ Not enough of the dad and the brother. I think they could have played an ingenious role in the book and they were left in the background.

In summary: Like I said, you know what you’re getting with this one. If you like psychological thrillers you’ll like it. It’s a fun quick read but not super twisty and there isn’t anything terribly unique about the book.

Wow! Don't Look for Me pulls out all the stops. This book covers so many topics and does it all well. First, there is a family who is broken from a tragic loss that occurred five years ago. Because this family is so damaged and broken, it makes them a perfect target. Emotions are prevalent throughout the book. So many of the characters that end up becoming involved in the plot have endured some type of loss or tragedy. I think that is for a reason. It helps to show that everyone has their own pain. The only differences emerge in how they handle these moments. This story is also a bit creepy and intense. I found myself reading faster so I could get to a part of the book where I could breathe a sigh of relief.
Ms. Walker was successful in giving the reader just enough information to connect with the characters. All the while, she kept several surprises tucked away until just the right moment. There is no disputing the originality of this book and Ms. Walker's effortless depiction of the characters and their setting.
Do yourself a favor and try to not to read too many reviews. You want everything to reveal itself to you in its own time. You don't want for anything to ruin your enjoyment of this clever storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first to read from this author and I was not disappointed. The book started a bit slow for me but I was soon very engrossed in the story and couldn't put it down. There was a small bit where I was worried the story would take a bit of a disturbing turn but thankfully it did not, just enough to keep you on edge. It does alternate between first and third person but it flowed well.

Excellent book! I normally don't go for books that flip back and forth between time periods and POV, but this author made it effortless to read and contributed to the story to be told in that manner. Molly Clarke goes to visit her son's college football game and doesn't return home. Her family doesn't even notice for awhile because this family is so broken. They suffered a devastating loss a few years before and even with some therapy this previously loving family was disintegrating as time wore on. I won't say more because I do not want to ruin the slow and perfectly timed reveal of what happened then and what was happening now that Molly is missing. I would like to say something about one of the characters but it would spoil some of the story, so I'm refraining.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life.
She doesn't want to be found.
Or at least, that's the story.
This is a clever and intriguing story that is full of well written characters including the creepiest child I have read in a long time. A mother's guilt drives her to desperate measures to stay connected to her two remaining children.
I read this book in two sittings and it definitely kept me entertained. Is it a book of the year? no but it was creepy and full of unlikeable characters. Definitely worth a read.

OH I am so glad that I read this book. I was up all night long trying to finish it, this book had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails.
It is a fast-moving, gripping read for sure..

This book is a unique take on a missing person thriller. The story is told in the alternating points of view of a mother kidnapped during a storm and the daughter who is searching for her. After a family tragedy, people are quick to assume that Molly could have walked away from her life in despair. Her daughter Nicole refuses to accept that narrative and begins her own search for her mother. The author describes events from Molly’s point of view moving forward in time from her date of capture. The chapters from Nicole’s point of view are happening in real time. This adds to the suspense because the reader has no idea about Molly’s fate in present time. The story is fast-paced and filled with suspicious characters. Some are redeemed and some are just as creepy as you suspect.
This book was exciting, well written, and captivating. I had to race to the end to find out how the plot would come together and I was not disappointed. I recommend this one along with all of Wendy Walker’s books.
Thanks to Wendy Walker, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Don’t Look for Me is a psychological thriller. There are so many twists and turns in this book. I was guessing until the very end of book what would happen.

The greatest risk isn’t running away.
It’s running out of time.
The car abandoned miles from home.
The note found at a nearby hotel.
The shattered family that couldn’t be put back together.
They called it a “walk away.”
It happens all the time.
Women disappear, desperate to leave their lives behind and start over.
But is that what really happened to Molly Clarke?
My Thoughts
I would call this story a prime example of out of the frying pan and into the fire.
One mistake made by Molly Clarke leads she and the reader on a harrowing journey.
The emotional pain that these fictional characters experience throughout this story is shared by the reader.
Slow beginning, slow middle and fast resolution.
Despite its slow build this is one of those tales that have many moving bits and pieces that are interesting, even as some of the twists are predictable.

This novel was a page turner! The characters were complex and their backstories were beautifully interwoven. Five stars!

A spellboundingly fantastic book! This book kept me riveted to my seat until I finished it. Molly Clark is returning from watching her son's sporting event at college when she runs out of gas near Hastings. It is during the middle of a tropical storm and she flags down a pickup truck and then disappears. After a search that yields nothing, per the local police, the search is called off. Troubled daughter Nicole returns to Hastings to try and tie up some loose ends. All sorts of strange things happen and lies are uncovered as she tries to find her mother.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this unputdownable book in exchange for an honest review.

As an English teacher, I would talk to my students about the turning point or climax of the story. I would actually hold up whatever book we were discussing and point out that we were 3/4ths of the way through the book. As a reader you can count on it. It is the point where there is a car chase, a huge twist, the point where you do not know if your character is going to live or die. And that is where it will be - 3/4ths of the way through. When you have 90 to 100 pages left. 25% of the book left.
I read Don't Look For Me by Wendy Walker in a day. I was going to read a chapter and two, but I just kept going. Molly Clark disappears on a dark and stormy night. Her daughter, Nic, is determined to find her whether she is dead or alive. Did her mother just walk away from her family? This book is a great psychological thriller and very twisty and addictive. I thought I had the story figured out, narrowing down my list of suspects. And then - there was a huge twist that I did not see coming. What?? You are kidding me! Then I looked to the lower right hand corner of my kindle and what does it read? 75% Exactly 3/4ths of the way through my book. I was at that turning point. Things were changing - and I did not know what was going to happen to my characters! I still had a few questions at the end of the book but for the most part I was satisfied with the ending and it sure kept me reading!!

Molly Clarke is a severely depressed woman who blames herself for the tragic death of her young daughter five years ago. Unfortunately her husband and two other older children do too. She desperately tries to be an attentive and loving mother but she only gets cruelty and indifference in return. Even her husband wants nothing to do with her.
One night after traveling hours to see her son play in his football game she is at her lowest point. Earlier in the day her daughter screamed at her about being a murderer and her son completely ignored her after his game. Molly drive home in despair and in a horrible rain store. Having much on her mind she ran out of gas. Her abandoned car was found, but no Molly. Did she just give up and run away from her cruel family or did something happen to her?
This was a real nail biter for me. Lots of suspense and I did not suspect who the villain was until the end. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book. My opinion is my own and unbiased.

Omg!! Wow what a ride! I love all her books but this one blew it out of the park! This was by far one of my top reads of 2020! It will keep you up way past your bedtime and you won’t regret the lack of sleep!!

Did Molly really walk away? When a terrible accident takes the life of Molly's child, the whole family disintegrates. I found this story an excellent tale of a family learning how to deal with tragedy and come back stronger all woven into an extraordinary mystery filled with suspense. The author uses one fateful night to bring a family together in their search for forgiveness and understanding. The characters are well developed. The story is a page-turner that keeps you guessing as to who is at the root of all the mystery. I really enjoyed how the author used different characters to bring out the true feelings of Molly and her family members. The young girl, Alice, is an intriguing complex individual. I's love to see a follow on story about her when she grows up. Overall, this story is a winner.

This was my first novel by Wendy Walker. I have read many thrillers this year, and while this one did not completely knock my socks off, it was a good read! There are some great twists! I found myself constantly thinking each character was guilty at one point. I definitely recommend this for any thriller lover like me!! I will be picking up more books by Wendy Walker!!

If you want a chilling, psychological thriller, filled with edge of your seat excitement, WENDY WALKER delivers.
I will preface this review with “I absolutely love every book I have read by Wendy Walker and I intend on reading them ALL.” I devour them quickly because I can’t wait to read the tale she is weaving and how it will end. There is always a twist in her stories and I can’t quite figure out how they will end, or, maybe I’m enjoying the storytelling so much that I don’t think about how it will end. I’m just savoring the journey.
The beginning of the story is quite heartbreaking. You immediately find out about a terrible incident involving the matriarch of the family. Of course, she is guilt-ridden and the family is torn apart. The eldest daughter is also ridden with guilt and engages in reckless behavior so as not to feel anything. The story is told in alternating chapters between the point of view of the mother and the daughter. Fast forward five years, on a stormy night, the mother leaves home appearing to be running away. Her car stalls out and a young man with a child stops to help her. What unfolds is….well you’ll have to read the book to find out. There are twists, there are turns, so fasten your seat belt, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
EXCITING…THRILLING…UNPUTDOWNABLE!!
I know you don’t know me and have no reason to trust my review, but trust me this one time and READ THIS BOOK!
Expected Publication Date: 9/15/2020
Special shout out to NetGalley, Wendy Walker and St. Martin’s Press for affording me the opportunity to read a free, audible version, of this novel in exchange for my honest review. Sincerely, Thank You!!

Molly is a mother who accidentally killed her daughter 5 years ago. Her marriage is crumbling and her other children appear to hate her. While driving during a storm, Molly runs out of gas and is now missing. Did Molly run away? Did something else happen to Molly? The story is told from her daughter Nic's point of view and from Molly's point of view. This was a fast read that kept me turning the pages. Just when you think you have it all figured out, along comes another surprise.
Thanks to netgalley, St. Martins Press and Wendy walker for a great read.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. I was just commenting on another thriller that it's hard to 'thrill' me these days. That said, Don't Look For Me is another example of a well told story. This was an exciting, escapist read. The set up in the beginning was well constructed and it made for an enjoyable page turner. I have yet to read others by Walker but I now plan to go through her backlist.

I enjoyed this thriller. It was unique and original and a great read. It has a lot going on but is well worth the read.
