Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for a digital copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.
While this is number 3 in the series, it's the first one I've read and it works as a stand-alone. I enjoyed this cozy mystery with a genealogy theme. Alternating between past and present, the dual timeline tells the story of two women. In the past of 1909 is Lynnelle, a single young woman who is traveling by train to Denver to have the Pinkerton Detective Agency investigate possible banking fraud of her family's accounts. In the present is Jillian, a single young genealogist who lives in a small town near Denver and is given the opportunity to solve the mystery of an abandoned steamer trunk. The trunk is Lynnelle's and the story switches between 1909 and today. Why was the trunk abandoned, what happened to Lynnelle, how does this trunk affect Jillian personally? Lots of questions to draw the reader into the story, with answers spooled out as the story progresses to a satisfying conclusion.

Book three in this series is a delight to read...it's warm, real and beautifully written. Give yourself the gift of savoring this story. You will not be disappointed.

This is the first book I’ve read by Olivia Newport and I really liked it! Jillian is a genealogist, her father Nolan is an attorney who loves to cook, and together they piece together a mystery they stumble upon involving an old steamer trunk given to them. Alternating between their story of discovering the secrets of the past, and following the story of the woman they are researching, we follow their search and discovery. I was fascinated, finding the story hard to put down. I look forward to reading the first two books in the series, and book #4 when it comes out.

This book continues the "adventures" of the characters from the prior two books. I found this book to be the best thus far in the series because it really delved into some of the main character's (Jillian's) personal issues and worked towards some healing there. Also, the introduction of some new characters was well done and welcomed! Perhaps a little romance in the future? :-) Well written and enjoyable. A solid 4 stars! (I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley...but the opinions are all mine!)

A very well written story with lots of twists and turns as a genealogy team, father and daughter, search for answers about a 100 year old trunk. Wonderful dialogue, great characters, and lots of friend interaction too. Highly recommend. I received an advance reader copy from the publisher. Opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed reading through this fantastic novel.
In the story, we come across Jillian, who is a detective with genealogy background, and after coming having queries in regards to her family past, she starts digging in in order to try to find out what her family really is and dot by dot she's able to unravel the mystery surrounding her family from the past years to the present day, which really helps in bringing such a story to life.
I really recommend everyone to get this book once it's been published, come May 2020.
Thank you NetGalley and Barbour for giving me an advance copy of the book.

While this is the third book in a series, I very much enjoyed the read! Have added the prior two books to my to-be-read list. Well written and held interest throughout.

When I Meet You by Olivia Newport is the third book in the Tree of Life series. I adore this series! If you are a history and genealogy fan you absolutely have to read these books. Jillian and her dad, Nolan, are the main characters but the rest of the characters are carried through the series. I enjoy stories that tie past and present together and When I Meet You do this brilliantly. From 1909 to the present day we follow Jillian as she tries to solve the mystery of a beautiful steamer trunk left at a train station over 100 years before using her mad genealogy skills. And speaking of trunks, there is one in the attic left to Jillian by her deceased mother. Jillian really needs to solve the mystery of her mother's Italian relatives when she has time. Between the steamer trunk, the cute guy that has ties to the trunk and helping her dad prepare for a town dinner serving two hundred people (yikes!) Jillian is hard-pressed to get anything done! Start with The Inn at Hidden Run and work your way through the series. Or jump in with When I Meet You. Either way, you are in for a treat! I voluntarily received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

An enjoyable read:
This was a good clean mystery novel however personally I would have preferred a stronger Christian message.
I was grateful that unlike in previous books, this time somebody actually requested Nolan and Jillian investigate and they didn't just take it upon themselves to meddle. I enjoyed the dual timelines and the mystery surrounding Lynnelle. It was also fun discovering more of Jillian's heritage and I look forward to learning more in the next book.
It needs further editing as at times sentences were clumsy or not in the correct tense. I also found the fairly long sections of text in Italian unnecessary and merely stating that Nolan sang Italian opera songs whilst he cooked would have sufficed. Despite this I thoroughly enjoyed this lighthearted yet mystery filled book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

Genealogy: Your family then and now: Knotting the threads together
Steamer trunk takes a long journey and holds many stories inside.
Celebrate heritage and history!
You want to read this book!! You want to read this series!!
I am looking forward to the next book, I want to read it now.

This series is so much fun! Each book is better than the one before. In "When I Meet You," things get personal for Jillian, and we get to look inside her own past, in addition to the case at hand. Her heart got involved in many ways, and so did mine! I love it when a book does that. (I don't mean romance, because while that's hinted at, it's definitely NOT the main thing.)
Nolan, well I've thought so before, but now I'm sure. I want to be his friend. He's kind, resourceful, entertaining, and wants to do things right.
The whole genealogy thing is very interesting, and makes me want to dig into my family tree more. It's always cool when a book inspires off-page action :)
I received a copy of this book through @NetGalley, and chose to review it here. all thoughts are my own.

I love series books and this series, The Tree of Life by Olivia Newport, is mind-blowing. A father-daughter lawyer/genealogist team explores family mysteries and links the past and the present. I literally couldn't put it down and read well past my bedtime with every book.Read all three of the books, you won't be sorry. I can't wait for the 4th book of the series coming out in November 2020.

“Jillian supposed she should be grateful he hadn’t gagged and blindfolded her when he intruded into her home office, snatched her, and stuffed her in the truck.” - Opening line of “When I Meet You” by Olivia Newport
Of the three books Olivia Newport has written in the Tree of Life series, “When I Meet You” is my favourite! It is always lovely to return to a homey town with awesome characters and enjoy the interplay between father and daughter duo, Nolan and Jillian but the mystery in this one was awesome! It begins with a century old piece of unclaimed luggage and expands into an adventure of imposters, financial fraud and family history!
Jillian and Nolan unpacks the story piece by piece and it’s full of unexpected turns but it’s the leading lady in the past with whom I really connected. To share more would give away the story.
With humour and a sense of adventure, I enjoyed it from start to finish, it is a five of five on the enJOYment scale and highly recommended!

When I Meet You by Olivia Newport follows two storylines in time connected by a steamer trunk packed with vintage clothing, heirlooms, and drawers of paperwork. This book kept my interest while I was reading but didn't stick with me like some novels. The plot and conclusion were satisfying but some aspects of the characters and events along the way either weren't interesting (way too much time spent describing food and cooking a charity dinner for 200 people) or implausible (connections between two characters back stories).

When I Meet You is the third book of Tree of Life series. As a genealogy buff, I enjoy the author's description of the process of researching a family's history. The story moves from present day to a mystery from the past. Add some humor and a little romance and you have a great read. I think each book in the series has gotten better and I'm happy to know there will be another episode.

When I Meet You by Olivia Newport is the next book in the Hidden Inn series. When a museum curator in Denver discovers an old trunk, with no idea where it came from, stored in the museum’s basement he calls on Nolan and Jillian for assistance. Will they be able to uncover the identity of the person the trunk the belonged to and why it was abandoned in 1909? Jillian also has a trunk that her mother left her. Will she be enticed to explore her own past as well?
Loved this one! I have read the first two books also and it helps to have a background about Canyon Mines and its residents but this book is a standalone as far as the mystery that unfolds. The characters are very well developed and I feel I know them. The story takes some unexpected twists and turns to arrive at an ending that brings closure to all. The story is Christian based but not preachy. Nolan and Jillian, along with other characters regularly attend church and quote scriptures at times throughout the story. I give this book 5 of 5 stars and highly recommend it.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is an absolutely delightful book! It's the 3rd book I've read in this series and I'm happy to know there will be 4th! Olivia Newport has a writing style that makes you feel like you are part of the story and that the characters have become your friends. The main focus of this series is Nolan, a family law attorney, and his adult daughter Jillian, who is an genealogist. They live in a mountain town in Colorado, about 30 minutes from Denver. I live in a suburb of Denver, so enjoyed all the references to the area.
Nolan makes friends every where he goes, and he recently met the curator at a Denver museum in a coffee shop, who asked Nolan to come take a look at a truck that the museum received that had been abandoned more than 100 years ago at Union Station. It was still locked until a locksmith got it opened. Inside, besides personal items, such as a family Bible, there was a large number of financial records from a company in Ohio, along with a correspondence from a detective agency in Denver. Nolan and Jillian take the trunk home and the adventure begins.
Jillian is interested in the owner of the trunk and the family so begins research on that aspect, while Nolan has a friend look over the financial and business documents. The story unfolds, going back to 1909 and the train trip from Ohio to Denver, and then comes back to the present time to Jillian and her research. This is a heartwarming story of family, some intriguing history and friendships. I could hardly put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

A well written and entertaining book. Great plot and character development. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is the 3rd entry in the Tree of Life series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but would be much more interesting to the person who has read the first 2 books. Jillian struggles with two trunks – one belonging to her late mother and the other a mysterious steamer trunk from 1909 which has just been unearthed. I enjoy the interaction between Jillian and her father, Nolan – an attorney who loves to cook exotic dishes. I love the interaction between Jillian and her father. A subplot in this novel features Nolan volunteering to cook for 200 people. The main storyline goes back and forth between Lynelle and her journey from Cleveland to Denver to Jillian who is trying to discover what happened to her and why she left her trunk at the Denver train depot. It was good to meet Drew and ponder how his family became entwined with Jillian’s. I saw hints that Newport’s next story in the series may expand on Jillian’s family a bit more. Looking forward to number 4.

I just love this series! The relationship between father and daughter is so nice to read. The small town that cares about each other is another plus. Min was a bit of a prickly character and the historic back story was unique. And then there is a food! Nolan can really make me drool with all his goodies he makes. Although taking on a big cooking job seemed a bit over the top even for him. Drew is a pleasant addition and so talented. Hope he shows up in the next book too. Jillian needs an outside interest. She gets so wrapped up in her work. I totally enjoyed this book.
