I couldn't think of a better pair for people (and parents) to write this book than Ruth and Troy Simons!
This devotional for families was not only beautiful to read but it was also stunning to look at! Every page brought new beauty, both in words but also the stunning watercolor art that Ruth has become famous for.
If you are a parent, or even if you aren't a parent but have children and young people in your life that you hold influence over, this is such a wonderful book to have on the shelf. I know that we will certainly be pulling this one off the the shelf more than once to go through!

Due to being a high school teacher, I have been falling behind on reviews. Here are my initial thoughts.

I love everything from Ruth, and this book is no exception. The biblical truths in this book are a breath of fresh air. So much practical parenting advice and solid biblical teaching. A must-read for all parents.

This book is an invaluable tool for all families. It’s easy to use but full of wisdom and depth that parents and children need alike and grounded solidly in Scriptural truth. It has quickly become an essential tool for us in parenting our four children, and like everything Ruth Chou Simons creates it is beautiful as well. I absolutely recommend this for every family.

While this book was good, it is similar to other family devotionals. I do appreciate the format, as they give a real life question, a bible story to go along with it, and then an application. I also like the "to dwell on, to discuss, and to memorize" at the end of each day's devotional. My kids were not that engaged by the stories, I think it could be better for kids who are a bit younger than the pre-teen age. I would also recommend the paper version and not the Kindle version.

Focusing on 12 foundational truths, this beautiful hardback guides readers of all stages through text that is saturated with scripture and open ended questions, all while gilded with Ruth’s artwork. I so appreciate the depth offered in this book! It is not saccharine soaked. Rather, it truthfully and deeply covers topics that are appropriate for personal devotional readings, family worship times with young ones, or your church small group.

I wasn't sure that I should read this book since I do not have children, however, it is good for anyone. It is applicable for all ages, no matter what your "family" looks like. It gives wisdom that is so helpful in daily practice and daily application for studying God's word.

This book is great for those who are trying to start some family faith time, or those who have been doing it for a long time. The prompts are thought provoking yet simple enough to engage with little ones. I believe this book will be a tool that will make a difference in many people’s lives!

Foundations part one of two by Ruth chou Simons and Troy Simons is a much needed book in today’s world. This is a book that will strengthen and bond a family. This is a book that will help a family grow in faith and character. My family has benefited so much from going through this book together. I highly recommend this to any family.

I was first introduced to Ruth and Troy on Instagram and have just been so inspired by their love for God and how they infuse that into their family. Their words are continually full of SO much wisdom and truth, and I am beyond grateful for their voice in this generation as a young 20-something wife and mom just starting a family.

The book itself is BEAUTIFUL. It looks great to leave out as decor, and could even be passed down through generations as a legacy piece - that would be a dream for me! The devotions are short and easy to read, yet pack a punch and point directly to Scripture. It's not watered down or theologically shallow like other family devotional books I've tried to read through before. The 12 key "foundations" they bring to the table have me thinking about how I desire my own family to look in the future.

Foundations is truly an exhortation to love God and serve Him for the rest of our days, and is a practical tool to HELP aid us as we instill these truths into our families as well.

I loved this book. It's a much needed book in our generation. It is a great book to lead your family through their faith journey. I wish we had this when we were raising our four sons. What a gift this is!

This book is one to be savored over and over again through the years. Ruth and Troy have put together a comprehensive, manageable tool to shed light on a little of the truth about God each day. The daily structure is full of good content without being overwhelming for a spiritually diverse family's daily processing. The Simonses provide a one-sentence "To Dwell On" through the day and 2 simple, thought provoking questions that are appropriate for elementary school age through adult considerations. Each day an opportunity to memorize a line from scripture is provided. It is a perfect taste of the good Word that encourages participants to seek God's voice once the short daily reading and questions are over.

The physical book is also truly special. The artwork is beautiful without being distracting. The inside cover artwork informs the painting throughout the book, with beautiful watercolor leaves in deep green hues. I especially enjoy the fabric bookmark. It feels like a keepsake you want to return to over and over again, which is in keeping with the spirit of the content.

Well done, Simonses. I can’t wait to give copies of this book to my friends and family!

Ruth and Troy give great practical and godly advice for the how and why of family worship. They demystify the process and share candidly what it means to be in spiritual community with your own family. As a family with 4 boys, I really look up to Ruth and eagerly anticipated getting to read her latest book. I feel like the Simmons have a wonderful balance of grace and truth and it shines in their writing. I loved the style and setup of the book. With Ruth’s beautiful illustrations and an easy to follow daily family worship devotional with great questions for your family to ask one another, I highly recommend this book to all families! This is a wonderful tool and resource for families wanting to make Christ the center of their lives! The authors talk about the importance of daily prayer, worship, and being in Go'd's Word, especially as a family. The book goes through practical daily devotions of each of the resolutions and includes a small section at the end of each day: a truth, promise, or thought to dwell on, questions to use for discussion, and a verse to memorize together. This would be a great gift for expectant families or families in need of tools to create unity in Christ with each other, I highly recommend!

This book combines teachings about Biblical truths with beautiful artwork and makes them accessible to families of all ages and sizes. Since the authors are raising 6 boys, they are familiar with the difficulties in teaching kids about the Bible. The size of the book is fairly compact, certainly smaller than Ruth's other books, making it more portable.

The book starts with a section about why time in the Bible is important, and then a section about why family worship matters along with practical tips for doing that. The next section explains why and how they chose the 12 truths. In the last part, they take each of the 12 truths and have 5 days of study apiece, interwoven with artwork.

I appreciate the author's candor about the challenges they have faced, and the simple studies for each day that include questions. If my kids get bored, they won't just fall asleep; they'll start rough housing and yelling. Questions help them engage with the material, which also helps solidify it for them.

If you have a family or are planning to, this is a great book to help you start a strong tradition for family worship, both with practical ideas for how to do that but also with study topics to get you started. And it is pretty enough to keep for decoration and pass down when your kids are grown.

What a must have book for any family wanting to teach and train their young ones in the Lord! It's practical, insightful, and essential. I also love how they broke down the 12 foundations so it's easy to explain and go through. Highly recommend this tool!!

Foundations is a wonderful resource for all those who are seeking a closer relationship with God and His word. The twelve Biblical truths for shaping a family are for families of all shapes, sizes and ages. The format for family devotions and worship fits into any family dynamic. The simplistic yet profound principals from scripture will apply to singles, grandparents, moms, dads, twenty somethings, teens and littles. Ruth’s art throughout its pages are bonuses of joy. I am excited to gift this to adult children and to grandchildren just beginning their faith lives. It will be the perfect gift fir weddings, graduations, baby showers and birthdays. Ruth and Troy has gifted us all with exactly what we all need.

We were in children’s and youth ministry for 10+ years. We always love resources the family can do together! There are 12 weeks for each foundation and each day has a reading, dwell on, discuss, and memorize portion. Definitely plan on sitting down and doing this with your family. As an added bonus, like with everything Ruth does, the book is gorgeous!
