I recently read my first novel from the writing duo Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, Girls Night Out, and love when authors are able to switch up their writing. Their newest book follows Dom as he tries to rekindle his love for Mia, the woman he was engaged to 10 years earlier and broke it off with. After a chance encounter when he runs back into Mia, he starts repeating the same day and he has to come up with a new way each day to save her life. I was initially hesitant since plots involving déjà vu feel repetitive (whether movies/books) or can be painful (the 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle comes to mind, not a fan) but really enjoyed seeing how each day repeated was so different. By far my favorite aspect was how as the book went on, we saw Dom’s character learned how many things and how often people take things for granted in life. It was a sweet story with an ending I did not expect.

What a unique and interesting story this was! We have all experienced some deja vu... and this books has all kinds of 'theories' and quetsions about that phenomenon. I will admit, there were times where I felt the book lagged on a bit.. but over all great read! I did find myself guessing what the main character, Dom, would do next and did find myself predicitng (correctly) what he should be doing.. The characters are easy to like, and even not understand a time or two. We have all probably been in a situation where we wondered 'what might have been' and this book leads you through that for 2 particular characters.

Great read!

Can you imagine living the same day over? In this day that you are looped in trying to save the love of your life. He didn't know it then but he does now and he will do anything it takes to get her back. This heartbreaking, romantic, suspenseful book will have you reading to the end.

The Netgalley team gave me an ARC of How to Save a Life which I appreciate the chance to read this before it comes out. I have read other books by the same authors and there seems to be a common theme by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke; they write chick lit in the form of going back in time or an alternative reality.
How to Save the Life is a Groundhog Day story. My biggest pet peeve with this story is we have to read about what happens to Dom and his one day in his life over and over. I think after the second time we readers get the point so let’s cut to the chase.

Our main character Don is trying to save the life of his ex fiancée 10 years later, only to realize June 11 happens again and he has to relive the whole day in a chance to do it differently, or so you would think. The story makes no sense in that even though he relives each day, and learns something new but obviously if it is a new day how does what happened the day matter or make any sense since it is a new day. I am not enjoying this story telling format since his growth does not come out of his waking up “from this dream” and trying to change his day by trying something different. This just doesn’t work for my interest level.

I absolutely LOVED this book! It is difficult to put into words how much this book will tug on your heartstrings, make you cry but also be incredibly inspirational at the same time. It is a very emotional read but so, so, so good. Highly, highly recommend!

What would you do if you had the chance to save a loved ones life? Dom keeps reliving the same day, one which always ends with his ex fiance Mia, with whom he has recently reconnected, dying. I read this book in a day and enjoyed the way that Doms decisions and the little changes he makes change the way the day plays out, and, ultimately, change Dom himself. A great read

If you are in need of a page turning, easy, quick read-this is for you!

Right after Dominic's ex-fiance comes back into his life unexpectedly, he keeps living through the same day over and over. The journey he takes as he discovers more about himself and those around him helps him finally get to the next day.

I found that so many things Dominic was going through- loss, regret, figuring out his life, etc. are things that we all experience, especially people in ages 25-35. There can be so much unknown and regret about choices that will impact the rest of our lives. Dominic needs to be honest and forgive himself before he can move forward with his life.

This book was a cute and light hearted read that was filled with emotion, regret, and some second chances. I love that it was set in my area of Southern California. I am quite familiar with ,many of the towns and restaurants mentioned throughout the book, most notably Pacific Coast Grill in Encinitas/Cardiff that is my favorite. Both of the main characters Dom and Mia go through a lot together and there are even a few twists and surprises. I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did but anything written by Liz Fenton is a must for me. I loved both The Good Widow and Girls' Night Out, so when I saw this I was like, "yes, please!"

Plus I love the song "how to save a life" by the fray which is the title and mentioned throughout the book as couple's song for their relationship.

Read this new book and The Good Widow and you wont be sorry. Thanks to Netgalley, Liz Fenton and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Anything by this best friend duo is ALWAYS a winner! This book was great ! This was unlike anything else I've read lately and it was a welcome change from the psychological thrillers I tend to gravitate to. This was gripping from the very first page. I loved it! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review. .

Oof! This one hurts! How to Save a Life is beautiful and heartbreaking. It will take your heart and break it over and over again. Honestly, it will break your heart about nine times. It's the story of Dom who messes up and get another chance with the love of his life Mia. It's a heartbreaking twist on Groundhogs day. He's reliving the same day over and over again trying to save the woman he loves. I loved this book. It was hard to read but a really beautiful story.

This was something new from these authors and I liked it a lot! It was a twisty, romanctic, fantasy-esque story and as someone who tends to stay away from fantasy, I really enjoyed this and it didn't take away from my enjoyment..

Wow! Liz and Lisa hit it out of the park again :)
Dom accidentally his ex-fiancé, Mia, after 10yrs in a coffee shop from their heartbreaking end. Is it fate that brought them here?
When they try to reconnect, Dom pulls out all the stops to woo Mia back. Out of nowhere the night ends tragically for Mia in a fatal accident no one could predict.
Dom awakens the next day to find a “Groundhog’s Day” effect... he begins that tragic day over...and Mia is still alive. Until that night she isn’t .
Dom keeps recreating the same day in hopes to change something and save Mia. What he ends up saving may be something entirely unexpected.

First off, thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for this ARC. I’ve read Liz and Lisa’s books before and always enjoyed them and this didn’t disappoint. A lesson learned only after days and days being stuck in a time loop; and sure that seems like a bit much to the average person; but what comes out of it is the true meaning of this book. Yes it’s repetitive, because the reader knows that each day when that song comes the ending will be the same; but each day you learn a little more. You see Dom grow, you find out more about Mia, and learn a little more about life, fate and growing up.

One of the most unique books I've ever read. Refreshingly different second-chance romantic suspense with a large dose of magical realism. 4.5 stars.

Hear me out: I generally **hate** any books in the fantasy genre (okay, of course excluding Harry Potter), so I haven't reached for any in years. I picked up "How To Save a Life" without really paying attention to what it's about because I'm a fan of the Fenton & Steinke duo. It turns out their not only know how to write a thriller, but also a magical realism novel that I don't hate... heck, even LOVE.

We meet Dom, a nice, sensitive and somewhat dull guy, also a believer in fate and second chances. So when he randomly meets Mia, a girl he used to be engaged to ten years ago, he thinks: great, still lover her, gotta ask her out! Sounds like a bad idea? Obviously, but not for the reason you'd think; she actually dies in a tragic accident on their first date. Dom blames himself for her death, believing he could have prevented the accident... So he wakes up every single day on the same June 11th, replaying the same scenario, he's hungover, stressed out ahead of his date with the ex-fiancee, and finally going on the date.

I can't get over how much I loved this book despite the, ekhm, fantasy. It was different, it was quirky, it was unexpected. And while I found Dom a bit pathetic, he's also a very likable guy, and we can definitely relate to his yearning for familiar love.

*Thank you to the Publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke have gone back to their writing roots with their latest book...and I am here for it! How To Save a Life mixes magical realism with edge of your seat suspense for the perfect summer read! 💜

Dom is reliving the same day over and over again, only to have it end the same...losing the love of his life. Can he change the past? Or is it fate? 🎡

How To Save a Life is a love story like no other. It’s about second chances, letting go, and finding out that sometimes the life that needs saving the most is your own. 💜

This is my first Liz & Lisa novel. I was amazed when I realized that the pair coauthored the book. It was incredible to me that the story had just one voice. Admittedly, I was initially nervous about the concept of the main character reliving the same day over and over again. I thought that I was bound to get bored. However, from the end of that first Thursday, I was ready to figure out what would change with each "new" day. The details changed enough each day to prevent it from being repetitive. Dom wasn't the most lovable character but Mia became one. The twists at the end were the missing piece that I was waiting for. I was left feeling oddly at peace. I enjoyed this book! It was easy to pick back up and it was a quick read. I will be reading more by Liz & Lisa!

This is a different genre of book to other ones that I’ve read from this duo and is a decent read.
The Groundhog Day storyline got a little repetitive mid way through, however the ending more than made up for it.
It’s certainly not my favourite book by these two, however it was enjoyable nonetheless.

I was interested in this book's Groundhog Day-esque take, but it never quite picked up for me. It read very quickly, which was great, and it diverges enough from the common 'repeat-a-day' trope that I wanted to read on and find out how it would resolve. But after two or three cycles of the same day, I grew bored, and the more time I spent with the narrator Dom, the more unlikable he seemed. Both he and Mia felt very one-dimensional to me, and the ending also came across as a little thrown together. Overall, a quick read but nothing special.

Liz & Lisa have done it again! How to Save a Life is a wonderful story of love, loss and second chances. Rich, relatable characters drive this twisty tale of a man reliving the same day in his quest to rekindle his relationship with a last love. I thoroughly enough this book. Now I have to go, grab hanky and blow my nose. #uglycrying
