I love Donna Grant and have read many of her books. This is definitely on the top of my most favorites list. This story starts out with Noreen second guessing herself and which side she’s on. She wants to save the Dragon King’s but it might be to risky. In comes Cain who wants to help but also get an advantage on their enemies. The story between Noreen and Cain took an unexpected but interesting twist. The connection between them is felt from the moment they meet. I would also add that this book is apart of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. However, I highly recommend reading the whole series, as well as, The Reapers series.

Cain has learned not to trust many people after living with the Dragon Kings for centuries. Noreen is a dark fae but she is horrified when she finds out her people's plans to destroy the dragon kings. Some lines were never meant to be crossed. The attraction between the couple is unexpected but strong and immediate. Will Cain be able to learn to trust? Can Noreen leave her people and everything she knows behind? A love that could cost the couple all they hold dear.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and St. Martin's Paperbacks.

Having read some of these every time I see one I go into it. In this one when we enter in we are given a treat. Cain distrusts put him on guard when a dark Fae comes to warn the Dark Kings. Her integrity could not let this happen if she could stop it. Noreen has us on edge at times because of the dangers she is risking and among other things. The spark that goes on between the two flames with it being a reason I read such as these. The journey of this love growing and the tribulations that it faces is what a page turner is about.

I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book

Noreen is ready to risk all to tell the Dragon Kings a secret that can't be ignored. She may have expected that things wouldn't have been easy but she never expected the one and only....Cain!

Cain knows that he cant trust Noreen but he can't help but try and to keep her stay safe. Can Cain help Noreen and keep his heart intact? Can Noreen prove to the Dragon Kings that she only wants to help? Read and find out !

I have read every book in this series and I am sucked in. This series does a great job letting you know what is going on so you are not lost if you read it out of order. Cain and Noreen's story is a great addition to the series because it builds on the series in a way that gets you excited and because you are one step closer to figuring out who Rhi's Dragon King was...(although I have a great guess)..

3.5/5

I love a forbidden romance, and in Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series, there is little more taboo than a relationship between one of the proud and powerful Dragon Kings and a seemingly wicked and cunning Dark Fae. To break that enduring stigma, Grant gives readers Cain and Noreen – a couple who shouldn’t be but are.

There are several things I enjoyed about Flame, including Cain and Noreen’s relationship, which began with equal parts distrust and attraction. One of my absolute favorite parts of any romance is seeing each party realize that it’s love, not just lust, that draws them together. Although the Dark Fae and Dragon King don’t know each other long before confessing to love one another, they each had to come to the understanding that this love is far from fleeting.

Another aspect I enjoyed was the fantastic amount of detail that has gone into building a world where Dragon Kings, Fae, Druids, and humans exist and interact. Grant has continued to build this world over the last sixteen books of the Dark Kings series, and it shows. However, the sheer number of characters present in Flame can make it somewhat confusing to follow along with – especially if you haven’t read the series from the beginning. Because of this, I often felt like I was missing out on certain aspects of the plot. I’d recommend familiarizing yourself with the characters from the other books before making your way to Flame.

In addition to the slight difficulty keeping up with the storyline, I also felt that the overall pace of the book was quite fast. Everything seemed to happen in rapid succession and scenes that I likely would have enjoyed more time and detail on (such as the confrontation between the Others and the “good guys”) were quickly over. In the end, it led to short, almost abrupt scenes. But then again, so much happens in the book, I can see why things had to move this swiftly.

All in all, Flame was a solid paranormal romance with plenty of interesting characters, an intriguing and fantastical world, and a love story with some angst.

I love Donna Grant’s books. They are suspenseful, action packed, paranormal romances, filled with great characters that have to learn to work and love each other in order to find their happily ever after. Flame is the seventeenth book is Donna Grant’s amazing Dark Kings series and as always she does not disappoint.

I am not usually a fan of enemies to lovers storylines, but the story between Cain and Noreen is fantastic. I especially love the romance between them and their intense chemistry. In addition, so much about the overall series storyline and plot twists are revealed throughout this story, I couldn’t put the book down. It is a definite must read for fans of this series.

All the books in Donna Grant’s Dark Kings series contain a happily ever after and can be read as a standalone, however, reading it in order will definitely give you a better appreciation for the characters and the series itself.

I received an ebook copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.

Although I haven't read any other books in this series, I had no problem following along with the storyline. I will be going back and reading more of this authors books. Cain and Noreen just about ripped my heart out, but then they put it back together. From just this one book I can tell this would be an amazing series to read. I would certainly recommend it to those that enjoy this genre of book.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and this is my fair and honest review.

Flame (Dark Kings, #17) by Donna Grant is a paranormal dragon shifter romance. I love this world created by such a talented author and boy are we getting more of the good stuff. Even though this book is part of a series, you can easily pick up on all the necessary elements, even if you’ve skipped a few books in between. Cain and Noreen are genuine characters that compliment each other as their love story is interwoven within the subterfuge between the Dragon Kings and the Fae. All factions come together. Some questions are answered while others continue to unravel. This is another key book in the Dark Kings world which may prove to be a pivotal turning point for the rest of the story. I can’t wait for more! I highly recommend the Reapers Series as well.

This is the 17th book in the series and it can be read as a stand-alone but would best be read in order to fully understand everything that is happening. Noreen is a dark fae and doesn’t like with the Others have planned for the Dragan Kings. She sends a message to warn them but Cain tracks her down. What will happen when sparks fly between them? This is a fast-paced paranormal read with lots of steam, drama and twists and turns. Great characters and a story that really draws you in. I liked it.

This book will pull at your quarantined heart, make you cry, make you laugh like a schoolgirl and make your walls crumble. Cain has never wanted a mate, he certainly didn't look for one. But when he is sent to investigate some strange emails received by Dreagan, he got more than he bargained for with Noreen. Noreen knows there is a lot about herself she doesn't know. So much she doesn't remember - but in the company of Cain she not only finds herself but becomes so much more.

This book will get you through those long days that we currently have. You won't want to put it down to feed your children or draw their bath. They can become self sufficient right? Kidding, go take care of your kids, Cain and the rest of the Kings will be waiting for you.

This is a sizzling addition to this paranormal saga, with shocking revelations, hot romance and plenty of surprises, twists and suspense to keep readers enthralled and on the edge of their seats till the very end.

When an email is received which indicates someone has useful insider information to help the Dragon Kings, they use their skills to ascertain just who sent it and Cain sets out to verify if they are telling the truth or this is a lie and a trap. He certainly didn’t anticipate meeting Noreen, one of the Dark Fae who has been working with the Others for years as they attempt to kill all the Dragon Kings, to wipe them from this world. As Noreen is convinced that a Dragon King murdered her parents, can she really want to protect them now ?Neither of them had foreseen their mutual attraction or that she would be his mate! However, the knowledge she has regarding the Others systems of working, their plans and more put her in danger from them. Can he help keep her safe? Will the knowledge help save the Dragon Kings from annihilation by the Others? Will their potential romance have any chance to be the start of their HEA together or will fate tear them apart?

Flame by Donna Grant
Dark Kings #17

Cain, a dragon king, is sent to find out if the email sent to warn them is valid or a tricky trap. So, off he goes, meets the sender, sets a debrief in motion and that debrief ends up rather steamy from time to time. The information Dark Fae Noreen has is from her time with the Others, a group that has a plot in play, a plot that will endanger the dragons. Will her information help? Is she a spy? Does she have information that will help?

The book has steamy romance, dragon kings, druids, fae, good and evil, an intricate plot, plenty of characters to track, side stories and threads that it would be helpful to have read previous books to understand all that takes place. The ending settles who the mate of Dragon King Cain will be but doesn’t necessarily provide a HEA for all of the dragons…yet.

I have not read the entire series of this made up world that the dragon kings belong to but have read enough to know that I really do want the various groups to find a solution that will make the earth a safe and happy place for all. I would love to find out if the dragons that were sent away are still alive and where they are and if they will ever return. I would love to see the fae realm come together and unite. I would love to find out what happens in the end. Not sure when that will be but hope it will be soon.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paperbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review.

4-5 Stars

Such a wonderful addition to the Dark Kings series. Once I started reading it, I could not stop. Sad and happy at times it was a great opportunity to read this story.

Flame by Donna Grant is the seventeenth novel in the Dark Kings modern fantasy series. This can be read as a standalone, but it is recommended to read in order to get the best out of the series.

Flame is a book that has it all, love and lost, trust and dishonesty, understanding and new found secrets. Noreen and Cain are now one of my favorite couples, you can tell pretty quickly how the story is going to go. The plot is amazing, easy to follow with twists, turns and intrigue that will have you flipping the pages faster and faster to get to the next part. Now, Cain and Noreen are a kind of enemy to lover genre, hello, Noreen is a dark fae, but a good person. While being at war with The Others, the Kings learn about plots and schemes that have been going for more years than they care to say, and when Noreen decides she no longer wants to be a member of the others, things start to get really dicey.

Join the Kings and their woman on a new journey of adventure and love. Five out of five stars, Donna always writes the best stories and even better characters. The ending to this is going to kill, but oh is it worth it!!

I really enjoy the way that Donna tells her stories. The pace her plots develop, the characters she introduces us to and the fantasy world she has created. Although I haven’t read this series from the beginning, I’ve quickly become enthralled and engaged in the adventures.

I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this story.
The way that all of the characters were working together to try and solve it. I appreciated the various twists, turns, subterfuge and surprises that Donna weaved into this paranormal romance story. Not only with Cain and Noreen’s romance but through the other story threads too.

There are a few storylines running alongside the Cain and Noreen romance which I like. The disappearance of Rhi, the continuing mystery and threat from The Others. Who are they, how will they strike next and what can the Dragon Kings do to protect themselves and vanquish them?

I also love that we have different sorts of bad guys. Downright evil sods, misunderstood rogues, friends turned into enemies and bad-turned-good heroes. I love that. It keeps us readers on our toes and reminds us about the complexities of humanity. I appreciate it when an author writes multidimensional characters that aren’t good or bad but a multitude of greys.

And while we’re talking about characters. You know I enjoy a story more when the female protagonist displays certain characteristics. Intelligence, resilience, self-reliance, and gumption. I wasn’t disappointed here. Noreen ticked all of my boxes plus she was willing to admit her mistakes and actively try to rectify them. I was completely engaged in her story.

Flame gave me all the feels that I’m looking for.
It made me chuckle out loud, wipe the odd tear from my eyes, had me on the edge of my seat with tension and gave me yummy flutters of arousal. In short, I was hooked from the first page to the last.

So ummm was there anything I disliked about it
As you can tell by my rating, I really enjoyed this book. However, there were a couple of niggles that took the shine off for me.

Donna does a good job of giving the relevant information within these pages about past events. However, I should warn newbie readers that a lot has happened in this series up until this point – a heck of a lot. Each of Donna’s books build on the ones before. I feel that new readers will miss something, a connection perhaps, that existing fans will have built up.

There is a HEA for Cain and Noreen. However, Flame while this book progresses existing storylines, we are left with more questions than answers. There’s a bit of a cliffhanger ending too. Although it’s not a life-or-death situation for our romantic couple, it still niggles me.

So basically what I'm saying is
I really enjoyed this book. Flame has got everything that I look for in a gripping story. Action, romance, mystery, passion, humour and enough titillation to keep me blushing on the bus. I couldn’t stop reading!

Content Warning:
This book has graphic violence, sex and darker themes. Therefore, I’d only recommend this book to adults who are OK reading such.

I’d recommend Flame to adults who are fans of relationship and romance stories with oodles of fire and passion.

Holy smokes!!! This story is filled with so much I don't know where to begin.
First and foremost is Cain and Noreen. How these two become a match is crazy, to say the least. And are they going to get to stay a couple?
Well not if Moreann and the others have anything to say about it. Then we can an appearance by the elusive Rhi, and I am starting to see something here but I won't say but I think I am figuring out who her King is...
And oh my heart was breaking at someone who visits with Rhi.
We have Reapers, Others, Kings, and oh yes Henry and Melisse what is up there?
Wowzers what a jammed packed action roller-coaster of emotions this book was.
I am so freaking happy I found this author. I can't wait for the next book.

Noreen is a dark fae who becomes horrified at what the Others plan to do to the Dragon Kings, so she comes out of hiding to message dragon shifters. Cain, one of the Dragon Kings,is attracted to her, and escapes with her to the former realm of the Fae where Noreen had lived as a child until her parents were killed by a Dragon King, supposedly destroyed during a war. Instead, they find a section healed and thriving with plant life and animals.

If you are looking for a way to escape these days of the Pandemic, books are a great way to do it, and this novel will fill that bill nicely, with romance, fantasy, dragons, and more.

This was a new to me author and I liked the blurp and I must have missed that it was number 17 in a series! I wouldn't have picked it up as books with a lot in the series tend to scare me . While this book can be read as a standalone, I did get the sense I was missing things, stories and people while I was reading. it was interesting and given the time I would like to go back and start at the begging.
