Flame by is a paranormal romance Donna Grant. Ms. Grant has delivered a well-written book. The characters are fantastic but plentiful, you may want to read previous books to understand this book better. Noreen is a Dark Fae and firmly under the thumb of Moreann, Empress of the Druids, but she is determined to warn the Dragon Kings of Moreann's plans. Cain is one of the Dragon Kings and it's his job to find out what Noreen knows after she sent the Dragon Kings an email of warning. Noreen and Cain's story is packed with drama, humor, sexy bits, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading Flame but now I need to go back and read the previous book to better appreciate this one. Flame is book 17 of the Dark Kings Series and can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Donna Grant does it again and never disappoints! I absolutely loved this book. This was my second book I read from her and I got to say her books keep getting better and better. Donna definitely as a new fan and I can't wait to dive into more of her books!

The world Donna Grant has created in her novels is amazing. I cannot get enough. Flame is the penultimate novel in the Dark King series and tells the story of Noreen, a Dark Fae and member of 'The Others' and Cain, our Dragon King hero. We see many of our beloved characters in this book as they all work to destroy the evil 'Others'. I won't go into details that could spoil the excitement for other readers, just know you will love this story! Some questions will be answered, and new ones generated. No disappointment here, just satisfaction and anticipation for the final showdown! I received an ARC from NetGalley to enjoy and review.

Noreen wants to be good, will do anything to live and help for good . To go against the others
*Cain keeps Noreen settled and think of the positive, to not think of what bad could happen , dont let doubt lead you
*hate that light queen is alive and now set free
*love the hunger and passion these two have for eachother
*So much activity in one book, different directions with so many characters but very easy for the reader to follow
*it's amazing how Donna Grant writes her books and how she combines more then 1 series all together..we get to see all our favorite characters again
*noreen wants to change, be the better side of herself who loves and felt love, who wants to help others.. she doesn't like the person she used to be(old noreen) how she hated everyone and everything
*feel anger and frustration knowing certain people have not reached their end... but look forward and hope they do in the next book
*absolutely loved this book

Donna Grant has created a world of magic, with dragons, fae, druids, and more. Great world building, fascinating characters, and complicated romantic relationships keep her books worth going back to again and again.
I loved seeing so many characters come together in Flame; the Dragon Kings, the a few of the fae, Death and her Reapers, and The Order all play a part in this book. Plus, a character who was introduced in the last book reappears with hints of her purpose. I was also happy to see more of Rhi, a Light Fae with untold power and a strained relationship with Con, the King of the Dragon Kings. There is a feeling that many questions may be answered in the next book, while also being very satisfying with the progress in this book.

l received a copy of this book from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review, so I sincerely hope some of the criticism will be taken to heart and changes made to this book before it publishes in June. When I first saw the cover of this book, it grabbed my attention. The characters have a special magic to them, drawing you to them. I was intrigued with them and delved into the story from the start.

Yet, though the characters were captivating, I found that I was skipping over so many details of the plot. When I grabbed this book, I had no idea this was book 17 of 18, so maybe that’s part of the issue, but there are so many characters, relationships, mates, allies and betrayals, etc. to keep track of that I gave up and plowed through it just to see what would end up happening. Part of me is absolutely flabbergasted that there are 17 books prior to this, and that the storytelling is so all over the place. Yet the other part wonders if I had started from the beginning, I might not have been so lost. In the end, this seems to be more of a bridge between stories in the series. There really is a lot of talk and very little action. There is seriously so much talk that it distracted from any plot development though I can tell the author was trying to do just that through conversion. At one point, Grant even mentioned a plot point why one character turned from light to dark, yet a chapter or two later, a mate makes the same point and the recipient says they never even thought of that until the mate mentioned it. Wait what? You literally JUST said that!

I really hope some changes are made before the final publication, because there is a lot of potential. The characters and world are great; it just needs a good deal of improvement on the storytelling.

3.75 stars

The review can be found on Goodreads as well.

An E-Arc was received through NetGalley for an honest review.

This book was so amazingly enjoyable.

Plot:
A male and female of rival races (dragon v. fae) must work together in an almost witness protection type thing that I am all for.

Pros
1. The relationship between the two main characters was smartly executed, but I have not been disappointed by Grant yet. Even though they have sex pretty soon there actual emotional relationship was gradual.
2. The book is a supernatural romance but the main plot implements the conflict of the tension between all races and even more the political divide of the leaders of the races.
3. The first time we meet Cain in this book he is trying to get his friend to let him have the last doughnut. It ends with him needing to bribe the friend as an incentive. Very relatable and humorous. So many great aspects of this book. Humor, a hate-to-love relationship, talks of rape, etc.

If a fan of supernatural romance highly recommends this series.

Cons
1. My biggest critic is the way contractions were written so the reader would know how to enunciate them for a Scottish/Irish accent. The swearing was fine and accurate but I just cringed every time I read donna (do not) or cana' (cannot) etc. I understand why it was done and the effect it was going to but as a person with imidate Irish family, the translation did not seem to translate accurately for me. Probably would not have been addressed if I waited for release and listened to as an audiobook.
2. The ending is an ending to be content with but I do have some mixed emotions as I do not want this series to be over but I really want justice or death for the enemies!

Gah!! You have got to kidding me! My heart has been stripped bare and shredded by this incredibly monumentous story. This was not an easy story or a soft story or even a quiet story. This is a story overflowing with passionate emotions, soul deep revelations, and life alternating love. If you aren't careful this story just may break you into tiny enough pieces that you won't be able to put your heart back together again.

Noreen had one goal. Nothing could make her waver from that goal. Nothing except a little thing called love. She never saw it coming, never heard it's impening footprints, and never imagined that it would ever touch her. What a surprise Fate had in store for her! Cain knows the weight of his past, and he carries it with him each and every day. He never even hoped for something to lighten his burden of that it was even possible. All he wanted to fight for his survival and the existence of his entire race. Could love be cruel enough to dangle when you never thought you ever wanted in front of you only to snatch it away once you recognize it for what it is? Can anyone survive a loss that devastating and still keep breathing and hoping?

I never imagined meeting a fascinating Far like Noreen. She is a marvelous character with such depth and creativity that I enjoyed getting to know her. Cain made things so much sweeter after these two met. While trust may come easily to some for others it can only exist after being tried and tested thoroughly. That is the painful journey these two amazing characters must face and battle through. They must stand strong and walk the dangerous path that Les before them.

I simply love the intensity and complexity that are a trademark Donna Grant masterpiece. I can never get enough, and I hunger for the next one as soon as I finish one. I am literally addicted to her masterful creativity and immense talent! I know you will be as well once you give her a chance to rock your world.

Oh wow! What a ride this book was! Not only did it answer questions from the series hints but it added more questions. A couple things I nailed but a few things I had not expected but make sense now that I think back on the previous books. A couple hints beg the rereading of the entire series between now and Con's book release. The weapon? WHY is it that this weapon can do what only another king should be able to do? WHO is this mysterious woman and how does she play into the story? Where is Rhi's (blank blank)?? And (blank blank) didn't BLANK?!

Ok, I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't caught up to this point. All I can say is Donna has done it again!

Donna Grant's novel "Flame" is her next bestseller in her DARK KINGS story. It's a story of love and trust; betrayal and subterfuge. Noreen was a Dark Fae who had a score to settle with the Dragon Kings. Cain was sent to scrutinize Noreen and her story. Although he wasn't looking for his mate, sparks fly. Meanwhile we discover who Con, the King of Dragon Kings, true mate is. Donna Grant finally gives it up and divulges the answer to her readers number one question. Add in "the Others" who work to further their plans to finish off all of the Kings. To say the least this book kept me reading well into the night. I had fun riding on the back of a dragon through the ups and downs of a wonderful story. Thank you NetGalley for gifting me this arc book.

I loved the dragon kings and a part of me hopes this series never ends though i wish they could be reunited with their brethren and everyone can have a HEA. This particular book was probably the most forth coming with secrets and information about the others and the weapon that others have lacked in the past, but the story itself was a bit slow for me and dragging in parts. Can't wait for Con's book. My heart is breaking for him right now.

Cain and Noreen are great leading characters! Cain is pretty straight-forward as Dragons go but Noreen? Oh that woman has secrets, layers and layers of secrets! Just when you think you have her sussed, blam another secret. This book just gives more weight to the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". Another example of that is Ubitch - I mean she is just rotten to the core!

I'm now on tenterhooks for the last Dragon Kings book. I'm torn - I want the conclusion to the story arc, to know EXACTLY what happened and when. I need to know that my faith in Ubitch being the worst baddie in the world is justified LOL!

Please read this series in order, along with its offshoots. It just helps so much to keep Dragon Kings, Mates and assorted other characters straight in your head.

PS I do hope ol' JusticeBringer is sharpening his skills - I think his time to shine draws near!

Wow! Action-packed, information overload, hot hot hot!
Cain is a King that takes his time, watches and sees all sides. So when he comes across an email with information that may just help them in their battle against the others, he volunteers without question. He does not however expect to be drawn to the Dark that sent it. He feels a need to keep her safe from her former group, whilst getting all the information she can provide.
Noreen has spent her entier life hating the Kings, plotting to destroy then with glee. Until she discovers that all is not what it seems, and she sets out to bring them down. Atleast from and information point of view. She finds herself drawn to Cain. He is a strong, magnificent creature in Dragon form and a caring, protective man. Their relationship will be hard, enemies are everywhere as the final battles draw nearer and the allies gather.
This is not a story that you will want to miss, the end is getting closer and no one should miss a single book! Well done to the Donna Grant! Outstanding, five fire-breathing stars!

Omg! Donna Grant has done it once again. I love her Dragon King series and this book made me fall in love all over again.

This book was given to me by the publisher to review. All opinions are my own.

Flame: A Dragon Kings Novel is amazing! This was my first step into the Dragin King world and I enjoyed it immensely.

The plot twists and character development had me turning page after page wanting more. I've never read any of the other series so I felt I missed out on a lot of the history, but I could still understand what was going on.

Noreen struggles with her own identity and doesn't believe she can truly be happy. Cain is loyal to his brothers, but when fate brings Noreen into his life, will he have to choose?

This is an wonderfully written novel and has set the stage for the finale. So I guess I need to go back and read the other 16!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. OMG another awesome book in The Dark Kings series. So sad that it will soon be ending. Can't wait to read the next book.

This is the 17th book in this series and the next book is the last book in this series. In this book the author starts tying up lose ends and gives the reader more background information about the Dragon Kings, the Faye and the others. I have loved this series and could not put this book down. I kept trying to turn the kindle page as I did not think I was at the end of this book and I wanted more. I am hoping for more spin-off books to this series as I do not want it to end. Highly recommend this series

I fell in love with the Dark Kings series and have devoured every one of them. Then I went back and read the series that came before it and all the other spin-offs. Of course, I devoured this one. I so enjoyed Cain and Noreen's story.

I admit to be unhappy about this being the next to the last in the series. I do hope more spin-offs happen in the world. I enjoy it too much to leave it. At least there is rereading that can take me back here.

This book has the same great writing as you'd expect from Donna Grant. I enjoy her little twists and turns. This one had a few more than normal. Lots of little details coming out about things I have wondered and guessed at for quite a while. One I guessed correctly, one I was stunned at and some that I hadn't considered. The really incredible thing about this author is how she can turn the series on a dime and make you rethink things that have happened in previous books. This is one of those books. I enjoy that about this series.

As for Cain and Noreen, they are an unusual pairing. I won't give a thing away, but I will say that Noreen is dark fae. Yeah, don't expect that knowing that tells you one thing about Noreen because it doesn't. Every time I think I had her figured out, a twist changed my perspective. It definitely makes you realize that you shouldn't judge anyone. Besides not knowing where they came from, you have know idea what they've been through. I like that.

I read this several months before release and when I finished I just paced. I wanted the next one even though that's the ending. I need more. I also want another reaper story. There is one in particular that I want. If I could make a request, I would but I have a feeling it's going to happen. That's all I'll say about that.

Of course you will want to read this if you've a Dark Kings fan. I wouldn't jump into this book if you haven't read the main books in the series. But it's a good excuse to start this series. I read it before any of the other spin offs and fell in love. Romance, magic, dragons, fae, and more - who could ask for more. Not this reader.
