Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher I was able to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Camping With Unicorns is the 11th book in the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series and the comic strips are just as fun as I remember previous volumes being.
School is out for the summer and Phoebe goes on new adventures with her best unicorn friend Marigold. You see a lot of familiar faces and some new ones as well. I feel like the humor has kicked up a notch to. In the past I’ve thought it a cute comic and something definitely worth suggesting to reluctant readers, and just readers who need a story about a girl who gains confidence in herself with her unicorn friend at her side bolstering her, but this volume felt like the humor was definitely intended for adults as much as kids. I felt like I got more of a kick out of it than usual at least. I love Phoebe and Marigold so much, there friendship is wonderful and shows such great development between the two of them.

Phoebe and her unicorn Marigold Heavenly Nostrils are ready to forget their school year schedule and celebrate all things summer with trips to the pool, camping, roasting s'mores (or apples, if you're Marigold), and playing cards.
Familiar faces like Max, Todd, and Dakota and her goblins are featured in several panels. I liked the new development in the "frenemy" relationship between Phoebe and Dakota as Dakota realizes how much she has in common with Phoebe.

I'm a huge fan of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series and this is another great addition with valuable lessons on friendship and humor both kids and adults can appreciate.

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Camping with Unicorns is scheduled for release on April 7, 2020.

Phoebe and Marigold are back and at their best. For most of the book, the timing is summer vacation. Phoebe re-learns how to manage her own time. Marigold learns about camping. Everyone gets to meet a unicorn who lives in the forest so he can be "away from it all" (not including video games). And Phoebe starts to be something like friends with Dakota (since Phoebe is the only person she can talk to about the goblins).
It's impressive how much growth these characters can still have in book 11 yet stay true to themselves (little girl and narcissistic not-so-fictional character.) I thought it was really interesting that, while Dakota seems to have no one to talk to about unicorns, Phoebe and her parents as well as Max and his parents all accept unicorns with equanimity.

Five stars

Another lighthearted addition to the series. This book is more similar to the earlier books in the series. It reads more as a collection of vingettes, rather than the themed longer stories that more recent books have been. Although I can't say that this is my favorite volume, or that this book adds much to the storyline in general, fans will still enjoy this graphic novel and the hilarious adventures of one dorky girl and her narcissistic unicorn best friend. Once again Marigold manages to answer most of life's mysteries with the simple answer of "unicorn"!

Here is another delightful installment of Phoebe and Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. This series is so popular in my Media Center and this latest does not disappoint.
School is over for the year and we follow the characters throughout their summer vacation. The dialogue is so humorous and inviting and the adventures so much fun. The message that unicorns are honest and find it difficult to lie resonates throughout the stories which are so quick-paced. This will definitely be a book in demand, as are all the others!

ANOTHER PHOEBE AND HER UNICORN!!! So excited :)

I love these... you know I do and this one is no exception to that rule. Phoebe is growing up and as she does we have new adventures with Marigold the unicorn. In this installment they are ending the school year, going camping, trying to be friends with Dakota, and beginning a new school year.

Phoebe is still her energetic self and spends most of her time with Marigold, but we also have some time with Todd the dragon, the goblins, Dakota, and Max. There are games played in human and unicorn and their camping trip was made magical.

As with the other books in this series, you can probably pick any of them up and start reading, Phoebe and Marigold fill you in on what is happening. The panels are short and easy to follow and very colorful, making them a great read for younger audiences whose attention-spans might be shorter.

I love this series, they are laugh-out-loud plots and situations and Marigold and Phoebe are growing together and it is wonderful to see their changes and growth but also how they stay the same and the best-est of friends.

every new Phoebe book gives me such joy. Each one makes me snicker with every page and I just love how the wit and heart never leaves these books. I hope for many many more in this series.

This book was a fun addition to the Phoebe and her unicorn series. We follow Phoebe around her summer vacation and the book ends in Fall. She has some issues with her friends at school and with some of the magical creatures. Just a lighthearted book with some good vocabulary to boot.

Camping with Unicorns belongs in reader's hands and on the classroom shelf. I would gladly use it in a course on graphic novels that reach young and older readers. Colorful and lovely reading.

Camping with Unicorns: Phoebe and Her Unicorn vol 11 by Dana Simpson

My oldest daughter is seven now. When she was five, one of the librarians at our local library of, who saw the super hero trade paperbacks I was checking out for her (and for myself), asked me if my daughter liked unicorns. I believe I responded, “Who doesn’t?” At which point she insisted I put a copy of Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson on hold.

The moral of this story is: always trust your librarian.

Both my daughter and I love the Phoebe and her Unicorn series. It’s about a young girl who feels a little bit weird who happens to befriend a unicorn with the fantastic name of Marigold Heavenly Nostrils. It’s a sweet, funny comic without being treacly. It is exactly what I would have wanted to read as a child in between Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side. I would go so far as to say it is the Calvin and Hobbes of today. (BTW, parts of Calvin and Hobbes does not hold up so well anymore. In our current world of school shootings and unapologetic misogynists, it feels uncomfortable at times.)

This volume covers the end of one school year, summer break, and the beginning of the next year. There is some good character development for Dakota, Phoebe’s arch frenemy, who finally starts to realize that being “cool” and hanging with the “cool kids” is starting to interfere with her actual interests.

I highly recommend this volume and this series to readers of all ages.

Camping with Unicorns is the 11th in the series Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson. It's summertime and and now it's time to fill all the free time with things that Phoebe wants to do!

The small plots within the whole are humorous and will appeal to young readers. The colors in the illustrations are appealing and keep the reader interested. See more of the other characters from the series and a brand new character too! This series is extremely popular with my elementary students and I will surely be adding this to our library collection.

The publisher generously provided me with a copy of the book upon request on NetGalley. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

It’s time to hang out with Marigold Heavenly Nostrils’ favourite unicorn (herself, of course!) and her human, Phoebe. Once again it’s summer vacation and there’s so much to do, once Phoebe winds down from school.

Phoebe attempts to teacher Marigold how to lie. Max and Phoebe play hide and seek, and Phoebe and Marigold play some games where everyone wins. Well, sometimes. Meanwhile Dakota is enjoying all of the perks of being a goblin princess, from the the tiara to the luxury of being transported upon her “throne thingy”, complete with cup holders.

After spending so long being frenemies, Phoebe and Dakota decide it’s time to reboot their friendship. I wholeheartedly approve of this development because it means more Dakota! I love Dakota!

Phoebe and Max’s families go camping together. When they’re not roasting marshmallows around the campfire or attracting the local wildlife, Phoebe, Max and Marigold enjoy nature (and meet a unicorn who is roughing it).

I learned that unicorns look even more adorable when they’re wearing swimsuits and discovered why schools are much more interesting during summer vacation. I tagged along with Marigold as she entertained herself while Phoebe was at school and decided Marigold’s favourite magical loophole is now one of my own favourites. Phoebe’s own loophole was a familiar one.

When I realised this collection would mostly take place during summer vacation I expected to see a rehash of previous summers with Phoebe and Marigold. I’m not sure if it’s just because I needed a unicorn fix but this collection felt really fresh. New characters were introduced and I learned something new about some I’ve known since the first collection.

I hope I don’t have to wait too long for my next magical unicorn fix. I’ll definitely be rereading this collection and most likely revisiting some earlier ones in the meantime.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this graphic novel.

Phoebe and her Unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, are back for another adventure!

It's summer, so join Phoebe and Marigold as they go to the pool, go camping, play cards, try stand-up comedy and more in this volume of the hit graphic novel series! See more of friends such as Max, Todd the Candy Dragon, Lord Splendid Humility, Dakota and her Goblins, as well as a new friend: a unicorn named Al with a lot of misconceptions about humans! Every day is an adventure for best friends Phoebe and Marigold, turning the ordinary and mundane into something magical and worthy of a unicorn!

I have been a huge fan of the Phoebe and Her Unicorn graphic novel series since the first volume and this might be my favorite one so far. I love the art work and the story. Each volume seems to be a whole year, yet Phoebe never gets older and that's the magic of this series. The little vignettes are funny and stand alone as well as flow into the whole story. I don't think you'll miss anything if you read them out of order but there is some progression on Phoebe's relationships with Max and Dakota.

This is the first book of the series that I read, and I found it very charming! It has a lovely sense of humour and such cute art. Also I noticed one of Phoebe’s friends has two moms, which is a small detail that I really appreciate! If I had a kid, I would definitely pick up this series for them.
