There's this glamorous family, the Casey's. Johnny Casey, his two brothers Ed and Liam, their beautiful, talented wives and all their kids spend a lot of time together. Under the surface conditions are murkier. I loved this mad book about this mad family! Amusing and and crazy!

A book with an Irish setting? Yes, please! It is a long story, but very entertaining and fast paced. There are quite a few characters to follow so it can get confusing at times, but overall a decent read.

Grown Ups by Marian Keyes

Thank you to NetGalley and Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House Canada for an e-ARC for an honest review.

This was a story about a dysfunctional Irish family and what happens when all their secrets get revealed. There were so many characters, at first it was hard to keep track of them all. The grownups have to confront their problems and resolve them one way or another.

It was a very entertaining read that dealt with some difficult issues.

Grown ups by Marian Keyes

Having read her books since her first publication she never fails to disappoint. However this book is not her best but not worst by far.

Any middle aged person reading this book will relate to the life situations and family. Lives are never what they seem.

Marian looks into the characters lives and weaves her story with laughter sadness and in some cases tragedy. In true style this book is no different when it all hits the fan when one of the family, after a minor incident, finds herself without a filter and things long kept in her head unsaid are aired into the family as a whole then the ‘fun’ begins.

A good book well written though in this instance a bit longer than it needed to be. Still a good read .

Love a dysfunctional family drama. Three charming brothers and their wives and their children. Too many characters and I wasn't equally interested in all the characters. Readable but memorable!

Marian Keyes’ newest novel brings us into the lives of the Casey family. Three brothers, Johnny, Liam and Ed, and their wives and children all lead very different lives from each other, but one thing keeps them connected - the fact that they are family. Johnny and his wife Jessie, who is a very successful businesswoman, lead busy, glamorous lives, and Jessie loves to keep up appearances by throwing lavish dinners and hosting fancy vacations for the whole family. Their lives aren’t quite what they seem from the outside, however, and, as it turns out, neither are anyone else’s.

One fateful night, during a dinner party, Ed’s wife, Cara, after suffering a concussion, starts to spill some long held secrets not only about herself, but the rest of the family as well.. As the truth begins to come to light, we start to see very different pictures of the brothers and their lives.

With her relatable humour, wit, and candidness, Marian Keyes brings us right into the lives of a group of people entering the middle stages of their lives, with all the good, the bad, and the ugly that goes along with that. So relatable in its honesty, fans of Marian Keyes will love this book. You feel like you really get to know the Caseys, and it is so easy to become invested in the lives of the characters. Anyone who has had to make do with what life has given you, or had to make the hard choices that come along with being a grown up, will be able to relate with the Caseys.

An excellent read, and one that make me laugh out loud and tear up as well.

The perfect book for fans of dysfunctional family books! Despite the facade of perfection, there are secrets in this family and there’s a lot of drama as we read and discover them. I loved the interactions with the different family members and this was an entertaining read!

I was excited to read this Marian Keyes book as I have loved her other titles however this one unfortunately did not live up to that. In this book there are many different characters that are children and it was easy to mix them up and forget who was who which made it hard to keep track

In all fairness, I could not get past the first few pages of this one - the arc I received is missing the letter “f” is most of the words it should contain and I could not fathom reading almost 700 pages trying to suss out each sentence like a crossword.

Amazing - I read this book through lockdown and it really did take my mind off the ongoing events around the world. I felt I was part of the family - a real good laugh out loud & heartbreaking sad too - puts a smile on my face whenever I think about it!!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin for providing me with an advanced reading copy of this book to review.

This was my first time reading Marian Keyes' work, though I am very familiar with her other titles. I was very excited to get stuck in on this one!

Whew, what a story and cast of characters! It was... a lot. The story revolves around an extended family where each one has their own set of problems. The book is very well written, and Keyes is obviously extremely talented.

It took me a while to get through the book, however, due to the list of characters and my inability to keep up with them all. I put this one down and re-started it in order to make it through to the end.

While this was not my favorite overall, I enjoyed the subtext that adulting is very messy, and nobody is perfect. I plan to read some of Keyes' other books, as I absolutely love her writing style.

One note about the e-book itself, the file was missing a lot of characters from words, which made the ARC extremely difficult to read. I had to wait until a copy was available via my library to be able to actually read the book itself.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the gifted ebook. All opinions in this review are my own.

I have mixed feelings about Grown Ups. I liked the big family drama and how it focused on times when the family was together. By including the time jumps, it kept the story moving, which is important in such a big book.

It took me a long time to remember all the characters and who they were related to. The good news is I had a lot of time to figure it out. I tend to like longer books but this felt too long. It could have easily been split into multiple books, especially with all that happened in it.

I first got to know the books by Ms. Keyes when I read her first, Watermelon. It was an engaging story with both complications and heart. I think that those two qualities best describe this author’s subsequent books, including this one.

Grown Ups is a long book at over 500 pages so just perfect for settling in with on these days of early dark. It is a family story in which, at the beginning of the novel, all of the main characters are close to each other. However, the training wheels come off and the ride gets more unstable when one of the main characters, Cara, suffers a concussion. This results in her speaking thoughts, opinions and secrets without being able to stop. What will this mean to her husband, his brothers and their spouses? Will what comes out destroy this family or make its’ members stronger?

It is hard to offer more praise for this title than what has already been offered by others such as JoJo Moyes and Liane Moriarty along with print media including many, many British newspapers and magazines. I will just say that Irish author Marian Keyes knows how to write an engaging story. Give this one a try…and then go back to read some of her other novels.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Who doesn't like a Marian Keyes book? My daughter-in-law introduced me to her books some time ago and I've enjoyed every one since that I could get my hands on. Despite being a tad long, this one was no exception. Very much recommended.
