Ever wonder what would happen if Gidget met Nancy Drew, well open up this book and you get a bit of both. Also merged with your typical family sister drama and a family newspaper business. As always Mary Kay Andrews books are a great beach read. I particularly loved this book it was the right combination of suspense/drama balanced with a great love story/ history of the family. The characters are fresh and real and the story draws you in deeper, page by page and chapter by chapter. Excellent book and can't wait for your next book

A delightful summer read. Great characters and a nice story line. A fun read. A sister trying to save her career and another just trying to save the family legacy and they don't get along throw in a gossip column with an ancient gossiper, not to mention the romance. swoon.

Mary Kay Andrews never disappoints. Hello Summer is classic MKA. Wonderfully quirky characters, compelling story and world-building of the highest beachy order. I think that this is my favorite of her novels in the last few years. I feel like she's really back with this one and that she spent some time on really delving into the story. I was happy to see how she worked Buddy's storyline into this; I was wondering where he fit in, but that was tied up nicely. I can't wait to dive into next summer's read.

Fleeing from a career failure, Conley Hawkins return to the small Florida town where she grew up and finds herself working for the town newspaper under the direction of her sister. Conley quickly becomes involved in scandal and finds that even small towns have many stories to tell.

This uplifting story shows that returning home can lead to happiness, adventure and love!

HELLO, SUMMER is not the first and definitely not the last Mary Kay Andrews book I have read. Mary Kay has a way with words and she grabs you right from the very first page and never lets you go. Newspaper reporter, Conley Hawkins, is getting ready to leave her job in Atlanta for a brand new one in Washington, D.C. If I were to say she’s excited about the new position it would be a huge understatement. However, things don’t always go as planned and her new company closes down before she ever gets to start her new job.

After her new job falls through, Conley finds herself back in her hometown working for her family’s small town newspaper. Lucky for her, she soon uncovers a huge scandal involving the death of local Congressman Charles Symmes Robinette. I loved her Grandma Lorraine and the newspaper staff. Also, Winnie, the housekeeper who’s been with the family for generations. I also love the story of Conley and Sean Kelly and their past together and how they became friends once again. HELLO, SUMMER really held my interest and the setting in the South is my newest weakness.

The stories and memories that Conley and Sean tell as the book goes on about their relationship as neighbors are very funny. At times, I was laughing out loud and that can be very embarrassing when sitting on the beach by yourself! Not that I was sitting on the beach, just saying! They are both denying that they have feelings for each other, but they are both big liars! I could not put HELLO, SUMMER down and enjoyed every minute of it!

If you are looking for an awesome beach read, HELLO, SUMMER will not disappoint!

I loved the main characters in HELLO, SUMMER and the secondary characters were just as awesome.

Mary Kay Andrew's books are exceptional works of art! Her writings are paintings in prose. She portrays Southern women as heartwarming romantic with guts and Hello Summer is true to form. I lost myself in this story of Conley Hawkins, a journalist who through no fault of her own, has no job, and no place to live. She decides to go back to her childhood home and working for her sister running the small newspaper in town. There is plenty of drama, romance, family relationships and small town life that keeps me turning the pages, thanks to the author's writing. Excellent reading, fast-paced, well worth a reader's time. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

What a great book! This had some romance, suspense and family drama. Conley ends up heading back home with her grandmother after her career takes her on a loop. She is an established journalist - and her sister has taken over her families local paper back home.

Conley encounters a story that she cannot let go - and tries to help her sister keep the newspaper going.

Decent summer read. Reading the dynamics between the characters and enjoying a little mystery to round of the tale was interesting.

A light beach read with an intricate plot. Not as humorous as Andrews's early work, and not as suspenseful as the works under her pen name, Kathy Hogan Trocheck. This was definitely a middle ground book. I'm happy I read it, but I wasn't blown away by it. This could have easily been a 5 star book if Andrews had flushed out each plot line, instead of tying them up with a bow in the conclusion.

A beach locale, a mysterious middle of the night car crash, a handsome and all grown up boy-next-door, and all the family drama you could dream up are just a few of the things you can expect to find in “Hello Summer,” another delightful read by author Mary Kay Andrews.
Sarah Conley Hawkins has accepted a new job as a hard-hitting journalist for a paper in D.C. when at the last possible moment they lose their funding and she has no choice but to return her hometown of Silver Bay, Florida. Nothing awaits her there but her doting, although at times pushy, grandmother, her critical sister, their family newspaper, and all of the responsibilities that she’s purposely stayed as far away from as possible.
While she works on finding a new job, she visits with old friends and on one fateful night she and her longtime friend Sean Kelly, Skelly, come across the burning and overturned vehicle of a man later identified as Symmes Robinette, a prominent political figure and a local hero in her small town. When her grandmother no less than forces her to write a piece on it for The Beacon, the family paper, she must put aside her complicated relationship with her sister, Grayson, and focus on what she does best, investigating.
In a small town like Silver Bay, no one likes an outsider who stirs up trouble. And as Conley begins her research into the life of Robinette she uncovers even more trouble than she’s bargained for.
Although a great read for any time of year, “Hello Summer” was the perfect end to my Summer reading list. I can’t wait to see what’s next from Mary Kay Andrews.

Another winner by Mary Kay Andrews. Returning to her hometown until she can land back on her feet with a new job, Conley is confronted by her past. A great blending of likeable and quirky characters, mystery, and romance.

I do enjoy Mary Kay Andrews books and look forward to a good summer read every year so, was happy to get my hands on this one. Once again, I enjoyed the mystery, the setting and the characters in the book. My one complaint is that it is longer than it needed to be. The beginning drags a bit, so make sure you don't give up, as it gets good once you get past that part. Conley is a star reporter who is ready to start her new job in Washington. Unfortunately for her, the online paper shuts down after she quits her job, but before she actually starts her new one. Forced to head home to regroup, she finds herself working for the smalltown family newspaper run by her sister. When she and an old friend, former flame and neighbour Skelly, run across an accident involving the sitting Congressman, her reporter instincts go on hyper-alert, she is sure there is a story here. This story involves secrets, scandals, family relationships, romance, attempted murder and mystery.

I am not sure if I really liked Conley or not. She is ambitious, but also a bit uptight, selfish and rude. She wants the family paper to survive, but she can be a bit harsh while doing it. There is also some humor in this story, supplied by the society column writer. The characters are well developed and I did love Grandma. She was the principal owner of the newspaper and she had a backbone that was unexpected. She supported Conley and encouraged her to go for the story, even though her sister and editor wants to stifle it. This story is not just a contemporary romance, but it has a mystery and some suspense that kept me reading past my normal bedtime to see what else Conley was about to uncover. There were some very unlikeable characters, some that surprised me and some that were just what I expected. I loved how it all came together in the end and tied up nicely. A fun summer read with some twists, that I do recommend to those who enjoy southern fiction, women's fiction, romance and a bit of mystery.

2020 has been anything but normal. Everything going forward is referred to as the "new normal". A phrase that certainly works for some situations but in the case of a Mary Kay Andrews book comes out, we know that we are in for the same perfect blend of summer, romance and mystery. We know that the vibrant yet tranquil looking summer cover is anything but calm when you start reading.
