Lana, Judith and Catrin are best friends since primary school with very different personalities. Upon finishing high school, they set out on the trip of a lifetime where they get up to all sorts and discover plenty of secrets.

The years skip ahead a bit and stuff happens and Judith and Lana end up having an epic falling out that spans decades.

================

This book was quite annoying to read. There were snippets of storyline that were reasonably good and captivating, but it was all completely overshadowed by petty squabbles and grown women acting like silly kids.

Not the worst book I’ve read this year but certainly a disappointing one.

Loved this book!! Catrin, Lana and Judith have been best friends since they were 7. As teenagers they travel to Greece, when back they live life and support each other, Catrin is the central friend who the others centre around when a tragic event in early adulthood splits Lana and Judith apart. The book was warm, funny and full of fabulous characters. I loved the way Judith's mother was written, so easy to imagine what she looked like. Each girl is individual and different but they still connect and are always there at different parts of each others lives. It follows them through University, Marriage, Babies, Divorce and Death. Fabulous

Easy reading
Not my usual read as I like a god thriller but occasionally I just like an easy read book and this was it
The book follows 3 lifelong friends Catrin, Lana & Judy from their infant school days up to their 50's
Their life , loves, and tragedies and how they cope with life in general I don't want to spoil your read by giving away the plot and I have read similar but as I said easy reading

Although I enjoyed reading this book I sometimes found it hard to really like and sympathise with the main female characters. The story follows their lives as they interact with each other from childhood on. Easy to read and well paced.

Brilliant and highly recommended

Three young girls vow lifelong friendship. Will their childhood promise survive life's complications?
Us Three explores the three women's lives and relationships. Like her screenwriting, this story brings out the extraordinary in everyday lives. Character-driven, it lets the reader get to know each woman through short chapters from their viewpoints. Full of humour, and sadness the readers' empathy grows as the story unfolds.

The story is insightful, relatable, and an enjoyable read.

I received a copy of this book from Bantam Press via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

A lovely easy read about friendship. Each chapter is told by a different character. I really enjoyed this book and could not put this down.

Amazing book which I thoroughly enjoyed. This was the first book of Ruth’s that I have read and what a book!
This was a beautifully written story following the lives of Lana, Judith and Catrin with its many different turns. I would highly recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bantam press and Ruth for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review

A Lovely Story of Friendship Through the Ages

Ruth Jones is an icon. Clever, funny, industrious, and now I would add good writer to the list. This book was a sweeping tale of friendship through the ages-- all the way from the heady days of young adulthood to the hot flashes that come with menopause. She really captured the intense feelings of lifelong friendships. This was a page turning delight with laughs and surprises.

Us Three is the story of Cat, Judith and Lana, three Welsh schoolgirls who made a pact to stay friends forever. However, at this tender age how could they possibly foresee all the trials and tribulations that would fall in their way?

Ruth Jones tells the story of how one friend genuinely falling in love with a perfect partner can be seen by another friend as a brutal betrayal.

I’m a fan of Ruth Jones writing but found this a bit of a slow burner. Rather than being about lifelong friendships it focused mainly on all the things that can get in the way. I did find it relatable and true to real life with heartwarming compassion and humour.

Throughout four decades you really get to know the three women and their families. Many life events are covered from love and loss to weddings and funerals. It will make you take a look at your own friendships and wonder how they could be handled differently.

My thanks to Random House U.K. Transworld Publishers for an eARC via NetGalley of ‘Us Three’ by Ruth Jones in exchange for an honest review. It was published in September 2020. My apologies for the late feedback.

This is Ruth Jones’ second novel though she was already well established as an actor and screenwriter. Listed as Women’s Fiction, ‘Us Three’ is a comedy-drama that follows the intertwined lives of three friends from 1986 through to New Year’s Eve 2018.

Best friends since they were at primary school in the small Welsh town of Coed Celyn, Catrin Kelly, Lana Lloyd, and Judith Harris are awaiting their A-level results. Before heading off in separate directions they are going on a Greek island hopping holiday. It proves a life-changing trip for each of them. One meets the love of her life, another betrays her boyfriend, and the third discovers a family she never knew of.

The chapters switched between the three women with some additional ones from supporting characters. It wasn’t all fluff as some serious issues were addressed in the women’s lives through the years. It also caused me to reflect on my own friendships that have endured.

Overall, this proved a quick, easy read.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I have to confess the only reason why I requested this book was curiosity to see what kind of writer Ruth Jones would be.. and boy I wasn’t disappointed and I’m so pleased I got to read this.
I’m a huge mistery fan, but I do enjoy the odd romantic story and this was such a lovely one!
The book tells the tale of the friendship between Lana, Judith and Catrin from the age of 17 with their trip of a lifetime to Greece before their exam results to when they’re well past their fifties.
The story is told in the perspective of the three girls in turn with the occasional chapter from their men (can’t say their names without spoiling the plot).
Such an easy read that will keep you hooked, I finished it in three days!!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Random House UK for allowing me to review this book.

I managed to get a copy of Us Three through the wonderful NetGalley, and I absolutely loved it. This story of three girls who declare themselves best friends forever, but find that vow severely tested through to adulthood, picks them up at different periods of their lives and explores the joy and tears of their shared bonds.

I ended up buying copies of this as gifts for a couple of my friends, and thoroughly recommend Ruth Jones' writing which will have you in tears of laughter and of grief

I really wanted to like this, as I adore Ruth Jones. I just found that it missed something. I will go back to this when I’m in a better headspace.

I was sent a copy of Us Three by Ruth Jones to read and review by NetGalley. I’m afraid to say that I didn’t actually finish this book. I got half-way through and I decided I had had enough. I found it very predictable and quite frankly rather boring. I’m really sad as I love Ruth Jones but this novel is not for me. Perhaps I am just to old for this kind of book, although I can’t imagine my younger self being particularly enamoured with it either. It is basically a chick lit holiday read, but in my opinion I’m afraid not a very good one, I felt that there was no spark. There are too many books out there to persevere with a novel that you’re not enjoying, so for this one at least I’ve thrown in the towel. Sorry Ruth.

Lana, Judith and Catrin are best friends and at the age of 9 they promise they’ll be best friends forever, in writing on a Curly Wurly wrapper. Yet life gets in the way. Will these friends be able to keep their promise through everything life throws at them?

I’d never read her first novel but this was exactly what I expected in terms of warmth and humour. It was an easy read and I did find myself caring about the characters. Through all the milestones of life this book looks at female friendship and how hard it can sometimes be to sustain them when having children, getting married or moving away. I found the book quite true to life. However, I didn’t feel any dramatic tension and I didn’t feel any impetus to keep reading. The book was nice, warm and comforting and something I might go to if I’m feeling a need for a gentle read.

Not for me - After the trip of a lifetime, the three girls are closer than ever. But an unexpected turn of events shakes the foundation of their friendship to its core, leaving their future in doubt – there’s simply too much to forgive, let alone forget. An innocent childhood promise they once made now seems impossible to keep . . .
