I just loved getting to read this title. It was just so much fun seeing these characters and I just couldn’t get enough of them. I look forward to reading more wonderful stories in this series.

Well this one was a fun adventure! Maccus is a fallen angel who has been cast out from both hell and heaven due to being so powerful and mastering several different skills; its by the tips of his teeth he holds onto what’s left of his soul. However, his grip is tested when a hit order is placed on him, with the beautiful and deadly half human, half demon, Morrigan Quill, as his assassinator.

I had a lot of fun reading this one! The instant chemistry between Morrigan and Maccus kept me turning the page and wanting to know what happens with their relationship. There were a few moments in the book where the pace slowed down to a snail crawl, but once the next plot point hit--we were back to cruising through. I kind of wish the ending wasn’t as predictable as it was, but overall this was a nice entertaining read and hit the spot for a good paranormal romance quickie.

I’m following in my commitment to try more paranormal romances, so when I saw a new series was coming out by an author I’ve seen around for years I knew I had to give it a shot. This book is all about angels, fallen angels and demons and I was into it from the start.

Maccus is a fallen angel and an assassin. He gets an assignment by none other than Gabriel who’s put out a hit on one of Hell’s bounty hunters. That just happens to be our heroine, Morrigan, who sold her soul to Lucifer to save her sister. Morrigan on the other hand also got a contract from Lucifer to kill Maccus. If she completes her task, she’ll be set free.

FURY UNLEASHED is one steamy paranormal romance! I liked the main characters and the plot of this book as they navigated trying to figure out the reasons why they were put against each other and what part they played between Gabriel and Lucifer. The romance, chemistry and steam was on 10 but the world building could’ve been a little better. The world felt just a little simple.

That being said though, I will be on the lookout for the next book in the series and hopefully more books by this author.

Fury Unleashed is an epic tale of good versus evil. When a fallen angel assassin is contracted by Gabriel to kill a female demon bounty hunter, Maccus Fury thinks it's all in a day's work. Until he meets her. Morrigan Quill is a bounty hunter for Lucifer. Her only job is to locate demons who've spend too much time topside and send them home to Hell. When Lucifer offers to void her contract, releasing Morrigan and her sister, she jumps at the chance until he instructs her to kill someone. A very large, menacing looking someone. Her job does not include killing anything, ever.

Now Maccus and Morrigan must work together to find out what Gabriel and Lucifer are up to before one or both of them end up dead.

I thought Fury Unleashed was an amazing paranormal novel. The author provided a good versus evil story with more twists, turns, and events the reader won't see coming to keep someone complete engaged, which I was. I can't believe I waited so long to read this book. I enjoyed the path Maccus and Morrigan had to travel in order to get to their ultimate destinations.

Morrigan is a bounty hunter because in order to save her sister, Morrigan sold her soul. She is now serving a long sentence under the watchful eye of Emmett, her handler, and Lucifer. Her compassion and lover for her sister is evident throughout the whole book. As events, lies, and deceptions are revealed to Morrigan you can't help but empathize with her. She's pulled in many different directions, including right into the sights of Maccus.

Maccus has been kicked out of heaven and booted out of hell and just wants to be left alone on earth. The contract to kill Morrigan Quill has him concerned enough to find her and investigate why heaven wants her dead. He wasn't planning on falling for his prey but fall he did - and hard. When the feelings are reciprocated their chemistry, affection, and steamy scenes just engulf the pages, the reader's mind, and explode into all of the feels.

The author crafted a unique world and a story that was intriguing, and full of mystery, suspense, action, and wonderful characters. I was easily drawn into the book and found myself immersed. I look forward to the next book, Arctic Bite.

I've been a fan of N.J. Walters from the time I read her Blood of the Drakon series. So I was pretty excited to read this one when I heard that she was coming out with a new series! I think this was a good setup for the first book in a new series but it definitely didn't live up to my expectations!
The concept of The Forgotten Brotherhood was pretty interesting but I'd love to see more! And though the characters were well developed and with loads of sexual tension, there wasn't much development in the emotional part of the relationship! It was a case of insta-love! I wish we could've seen them spending more time together and getting to know each other. Though this one didn't meet my expectations (kinda my fault for comparing it to the Blood of the Drakon series) the premise for book two sounds interesting and I'd love to continue the series!

This story is a stand alone within the Brotherhood series. We find Fury a fallen angel and Morrigan, a demon Hunter, embroiled in a fight for their lives. This isn't a standard supernatural romance story. This is a romance, action, and drama rolled into one. The imagery is so intense and real. Although the book is a standalone, there will be more in the series. You will only regret that this isn't a movie. This is a one sitting read.

This review is waaaaaaaay late. Embarrassingly late. I’ve been a fan of NJ Walter’s books for several years so back in February I jumped on requesting an ARC for Unleashed Fury, the first book in a new series. Then Covid 19 hit just as I was about to be released from all my post surgery restrictions. Which meant that after almost a year of being stuck at home, I was still stuck at home, except this time, with no company allowed. This put me in a bit of a funk and not in the right place to get into a book dealing with a fallen angel, a woman who sold her soul, and Lucifer and the angel, Gabriel, playing games.

When I finally felt well enough to read the book I did enjoy it, but I can't say I loved it. Individually I like Maccus and Morrigan, but I questioned them together. Part of it had to do with how quickly they ended up in the sheets when they both had such huge trust issues (and rightly so considering the circumstances). The good news is the chemistry between the two of them was smoking and the sex scenes absolutely sizzled.

As hot as they were, I would have loved to trade in one or two of those sex scenes to get more of an explanation as to why Gabriel and Lucifer were playing games, the backstory of why Maccus fell and more information on the Forgotten Brotherhood. Because of this, when I finished the story, I wasn't completely satisfied.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy the story, I did. The main characters were strong, just like I like them, their connection was smoking hot. and it had lots of action. But, it left me wanting more.

Rating 3.25 Stars.

This is my first read from the author and I really enjoyed it.

The story started a little slow for me and then quickly captured my attention. I thought the world building was solid. Maccus and Morrigan had good chemistry and enjoyed their banter. I also liked the secondary characters, though I wish they were fleshed out a bit more.

FURY UNLEASHED is an intriguing paranormal romance with dangerous, otherworldly creatures, subterfuge, betrayal and more. I’m looking forward to the next book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve been pushing writing this review for far too long. I guess I have hit a lazy streak where it takes me too long to read a book and even longer to write something about them. But I guess it’s better late than never, so let’s remove the dust for our wings and take fly to have a better perspective of this book! The higher you get, the better it will look. Trust me!

In this first book of the saga we meet the fallen angel known as Maccus. He is a founding member of the mysterious Forgotten Brotherhood, a guild formed by assassins that like to keep their business to themselves (and somehow they are called Brotherhood…). Maccus is the baddest of the bad, but that life is starting to annoy him. In order to rock his world, Morrigan enters the picture. She is a lackey of Lucifer, who must fulfill a contract with him by catching demons who don’t want to follow Hell’s rules. Her last mission is none other than hunting Maccus, but the fallen angel has been given a similar quest: kill Morrigan. Who is playing with their lives and what is their ultimate goal? Is it even possible to start a love relationship in a situation like that? Only one way to know…

This book has a pretty clean and interesting face: great cover that draws attention (and some appreciative whistles…) and a nice summary of the plot at the backcover. It was a great promise for good action, hot passion and a slowly brewed mystery. But I’m afraid that promise fails in every aspect. I will start with the action scenes or the festival of CTRL+C and CTRL+V as I like to call them. There are plenty of fighting, but almost all of those scenes are narrated following the same script. After the third or the fourth time it gets old and they become a great annoyance. Besides, the fact that Maccus is bigger than big and more powerful than power itself provoked that almost all of those moment lacked interest or the smallest hint of trepidation. Zero sense of danger. But at least there are exchange of fists, swinging of swords and some display of magical tricks; which makes the pace of the reading faster.

If the fighting scenes per se are very repetitive, the story itself is also a strange loop whose function I still don’t have clear. It goes like this: Maccus and Morrigan have some sex, Maccus and Morrigan wonder when they are going to kill each other, Maccus and Morrigan go out in a mission, Maccus and Morrigan encounter Lucifer, Gabriel or both, Maccus and Morrigan fight them, Maccus and Morrigan go back home and have some sex. And repeat. And repaeat. And, please, repeat. The explanation for hiring both of them to kill each other is lazy as Hell and I’m struggling to make any sense from it. I tried to reread the parts were the plot was revealed, but a second pass didn’t throw more light into the mess. I guess I need someone to grab my hand and guide me through this maze, because I’m afraid I don’t undestand a thing.

Even though is nothing remarkable, the story is at least bearable. But what it doesn’t have any chance of redemption are the characters themselves. In my opinion, it was a mistake to make Maccus so… so… so everyting. We are constantly reminded about his size and how menacing he looks and behaves. About how deadly he is. About how easy is for him to just kill and kill. The author has created a killing machine with the default setting of gutting everything in the middle of his goals. He is too damn cold. Until the very end, he is constantly lamenting that he will have to kill Morrigan, because obviusly she doesn’t have a chance against such a perfect warrior as himdelsf. I found this character very annoying overall. And the fact that Morrigan is attracted to such fine piece of unemotioanl rock doesn’t speak very well of her. They call it love, but I don’t believe it. It is not even good lust.

The ending is as good as the rest. But it made me laugh so hard, that I’m going to give it extra points for such crazy absurdity that came out of nowehere. I mean, if you want to end with something like that… seed the land first! I’m not going to lie: it is not a good book, but it is not boring or a pain to read. It has good elements, but they are put together messily. I hope the second one is better developed!

This book started out promising and then took a bit of a nosedive. I enjoyed the whole paranormal aspect. I was just thinkng the other day about reading more paranormal romances, and then I remembered this one. I love alpha males, and Maccus definitely fits the bill. A fallen angel. An assassin. Gruff and massive. All major pluses. I liked Morrigan too. She was tough and no-nonsense and didn't take shit.

However, as the book progressed, Morrigan's unfailing devotion to her traitorous little snake of a sister became irritating. There was literally no reason for her to keep trying to protect her when every single time Kayley would stab her in the back. It was tiresome.

And then, there was Maccus's whole view of their kill-or-be-killed situation. He still thought Morrigan would rather kill him to save herself until literally the last 10% of the book. Obviously that doesn't leave a lot of room for romance. There was smut and angst and conflicted emotions, of course, but since Maccus kept himself from believing Morrigan loved him (even though she showed him in about A HUNDRED DIFFERENT WAYS), he was very distant and, at times, unloving towards her. Could've done with a bit more emotion from him.

Also, the writing seemed to get a bit worse the further into the book I got. It was clunky and awkward at times. I kept noticing it.

This was SO good! It's a great setup to the series. It's intense, emotional and absolutely captivating. I read the 2nd book 1st and liked the idea but the amount of internal monologue had me skimming. Based on Maccus and Morrigan's story, there's no doubt I'm giving up on it and can't wait for more in the series.

Morrigan is tired. She’s been a bounty hunter for Hell for more than ten years now. The position wasn’t by choice, she took it on contract to save her sister’s soul. Seems her sister had a unique ability to summon the devil himself, which didn’t go so well. Now she’s locked in for another 15 years, constantly on the run, always checking her back, knowing someone could be trying to kill her at any time. If she happens to die while under contract, she still goes to Hell, so dying isn’t really an option either. But Lucifer has a proposal and if she completes the deed, she will be free of the contract and free not only her own soul, but her sister’s as well. It isn’t exactly a job she can refuse, nor can she tell the devil no either. What she didn’t count on was that her contract was put on a fallen angel. He’s gorgeous, haunted, a loner, and she can’t seem to resist him. Even knowing Gabriel wants her dead and Maccus the one chosen by him to kill her isn't diminishing the primal attraction one bit. But Morrigan is tied to Maccus in unexplainable ways and rather than try to kill him, even knowing his death will free her, she determines to save him – even if she has to give up her life to achieve his redemption.

Maccus fell from heaven thousands of years ago. Thrust into the bowels of Hell, he eventually escapes and turns rogue assassin on earth. Except Maccus has a requirement. Anyone he kills deserves it. He never involves or harms innocents. He never figured out why Gabriel turned on him in Heaven, and there is no love lost between them now. When Gabriel attempts to trap him into a contract to kill someone, he is immediately suspicious and avoids the trick. But Maccus needs to know what is so special about Morrigan that an angel wants her eliminated. He never thought he’d find his salvation in her. Maccus has a small sliver of his soul left, but the more he is forced to kill, the more that tiny light dims. He’s smart enough to know that if Lucifer and Gabriel are working together, that they are hoping Morrigan will toss him over the cliff he edges precariously close to each day. If he loses himself, both Heaven and Hell will come after him and sanction him. Not an option. So he fights with everything he has to thwart the conspiring angel and demon and keep Morrigan safe. He’s also figured out a bit about her heritage that she knows nothing about. Dropping the bombshell might push her away from him, but it’s a chance he has to take. If she turns away from him, it would be what he rightly deserves given his fall from grace and the multitudes he has killed.

Holy crap! I have read N.J Walters previously. I am sure I have, but I cannot seem to remember what it was that I read. I picked up this book because the blurb sounded intriguing, but the cover completely caught me. Once I saw that, I was reading it for sure. Being unfamiliar with Ms. Walters work, I would have to guess that this is not Maccus’s first appearance within one of her books. I couldn’t say when or where, but based on the interactions between Maccus and Asher, they both have appeared prior to this series. Very little was said, yet there was an entire story beneath the words. So … given that assumption, there is another series or book out there by this author and the Forgotten Brotherhood seems to be a spin-off from it. I aim to find out all I can about these particular books. Maccus is extraordinary. He’s the quintessential example of the brooding, reluctant hero. Alone for thousands of years with only himself to rely on, he’s resigned to his life and basically existing. He ceased to live once he fell and knows there will never be any other kind of existence for him … until he meets Morrigan. She makes him feel things and want things that he closed his mind and heart to thousands of years ago. But, even knowing she is the one brought in to kill him, he is unable to resist her. If he can only have her for a while, he’ll take what he can get. Morrigan is of a similar mindset. She has no disillusions of any kind regarding a happily ever after in her future. With the heaviness of possibly murdering Maccus resting on her shoulders and still not entirely sure of which side of the fence she will come down on, she might as well indulge in the addicting passion that sparks whenever they are near one another. But the more time they spend together, the more their bond strengthens. Nefarious intent may have brought them together, but there is something else at work here – something bigger than either of them – even bigger than Gabriel and Lucifer – two conspiring idiots who may have just created a situation they never saw coming and sure as hell didn’t want.

This is the kind of book that I read for. When I complete the book and I can’t wait to get my hands on more … when I realize there was more to this story in some way and feel the need to seek it out … when I am well and truly caught from beginning to end. This! This is why I read! Not many books have the power to influence me in such a way. Not even books I absolutely adore and would likely read again. This is a different kind of draw – an all-consuming draw. I was pulled into this book from the very start and with the fast-paced, non-stop, thrilling content, I had little choice except to dig in and go along for the ride. And what a ride it was. Angels, demons, vampires, bounty hunters from hell, fallen angels … what’s not to like? I can’t say I was entirely surprised over how things with Kayley turned out, but the other reveal regarding Morrigan’s heritage was well played. And when you think about it, it makes sense. But the star of this book is definitely Maccus. When you take into consideration everything he has gone through over the last ten thousand years or so, his transformation is phenomenal. It isn’t hard to believe his internal struggle in disbelieving that Morrigan could love him. Not so quickly and certainly not so unconditionally. Admittedly, everything happens rather quickly within this story, but given the dangerous nature of Maccus and Morrigan’s lives, they don’t really have the luxury of time. I will say that Morrigan’s father makes an appearance and while I expected that it would happen at some point, I wish they could have had some time. However, with all of the information hinted at, the reader is left to make a few assumptions. And sometimes that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The outcome for both Maccus and Morrigan is just a bit rushed. I do not want to provide any spoilers, but it’s rather quick between impending doom and salvation and I wasn’t all that clear on exactly how it all came to occur. I mean, there was a prophecy and I get that, but man. It was quick. If I had any complaint, it would be how rapidly everything wraps up. I felt like we needed a bit more to the Epilogue. However, it also sets up the next book fairly well and I look forward to discovering more about the Forgotten Brotherhood and what Maccus’s role in it will be as they move forward in their new positions. What concerns me slightly is that the series claims each book can be a stand-alone, so I truly hope that doesn’t mean we won’t get to revisit with both Morrigan and Maccus in the future.

Besides the supernatural beings, this book is jam-packed with suspense, thrills and some passionate af sex between our lead characters. I mean, fan yourself, down and dirty, give me more, delicious sex. If you like the idea of a fantasy world in which these supernatural beings coexist with the average person and being taken on a crazy wild ride with edge of your seat suspense, then get the book. Ms. Walters delivers an action-packed, super-steamy, engrossing read that is sure to leave you hungry for more. And if none of that does it, then take a long look at that stunning cover. As a bit of a cover slut myself, this one couldn’t be more appropriate for this book. Who wouldn’t be hooked by that deliciously sexy piece of art? I, personally, cannot wait to see the next cover, and definitely can’t wait to read the next installment as soon as I am able. I don’t know if Ms. Walters writes other than paranormal romance, but she’s definitely become one of my top authors in that genre overnight.

Loved reading the mesmerizing and spellbinding romance story. Morrigan, a demon bounty for Lucifer, is suppose to kill Maccus, a fallen angel. Even though Maccus is suppose to kill Morrigan, he can't help himself being attracted to her light and Morrigan herself. When Morrigan meets Maccus, she is not only drawn to his power but also to his charisma and light. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and riveting story of two people destined to find each other.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.

Enjoyed this book ... probably more than I should have but I found it really refreshing. I have really only been reading regular romances so this was a breath of fresh air. I really loved the supernatural aspect of this book which I felt doesn't set it apart from the early 2000's paranormal romance streak but it was all on its own. It is really nice seeing supernatural creatures coming back in style in books. I really enjoyed the characters especially Maccus but also Morrigan as well. They are both put in a situation that could ruin themselves in some way or another of they go through with it. I felt that Maccus was more of a character that you more told than shown. The only thing is that I felt that they author was rushing to finish this book within the last couple pages that some moments weren't as developed as others.

Overall this is a great guilty pleasure read if you like the supernatural and romance mixed together.

If you are looking for an addictive paranormal romance then look no further. Fury Unleashed is the first book in the Forgotten Brotherhood series by N.J. Walters and I could not put it down.

First things first. Can we talk about how gorgeous that cover is? Seriously, you can say what you want about judging a book by it’s cover, this is one of those that I want a framed poster of. It’s glorious.

“People think Hell is fiery, but for me, it’s frigid. I’ve been cold for so long.” Her green eyes seemed to deepen in color, tugging at something inside him. “Being with you.” She rubbed her hands over her thighs, the nervous gesture almost endearing. “It’s the first time I’ve been warm in ten years.”

In order to save her younger sister, Morrigan Quill sold her soul to be a bounty hunter for 25 years, working off her contract by catching demons to drag back to hell. So when Lucifier gives her the ultimate offer to kill one guy and have her sentence completely wiped, she has no choice because if she fails, she will spend the rest of her contract being tormented in hell. At the same time, Maccus Fury, a now fallen angel, is being given a similar ultimatum from the Archangel Gabriel. Kill Morrigan and get his wings back.

When these two are thrown together, they can’t deny the instant chemistry. Knowing that she doesn’t have a chance in hell (no pun intended) in killing Maccus, she resigns herself to her fate. That doesn’t mean that they can’t have a little fun before that.

"They’d only known each other for a couple of hours, but there was a sense of destiny about this moment, as though she’d waited a lifetime for it and for him."

Realizing that the two had been pitted together, and with demons and angels fighting against them, they have to fight together to discover the nefarious plot against them. As the attraction grows between the two, they’ll also have to fight the pull of their hearts.

“His mouth slammed down on hers. He didn’t kiss her; he consumed her.”

Not withstanding everything happening around us in real life, I didn’t want to stop reading. I loved Morrigan’s strength of character and her goodness shines brightly. Maccus is a fighter and protective of Morrigan. These two haven’t had a lot of good in their life and mesh so well together. The plot was so addictive and I was anxious to find out why these two were thrown together in this way and how they would be able to get their HEA without losing each other or their souls. I am so pumped to get the next book in the series and see more of these two, even as side characters. It’s been a while since I’ve loved a paranormal romance so much so I’d recommend it to anyone who’s been in a slump. Pick this one up!!

“No matter what happens,” she told him as she ran her hands up his chest to rest on his shoulders, “I’ll never regret this.” Going up on her toes, she kissed his chin. “They can’t taint this if we don’t let them.”

First volume in the new Forgotten Brotherhood series by the author, Fury Unleashed takes us in a world where angels and demons roam the Earth more or less discreetly, and our two heroes are charged with taking back the contraveners in their original world or killing the uncooperative. Things get worse when each is given the mission to kill the other one.

Morrigan is a bounty hunter for Hell, who sold her soul to save her sister’s life. She’s a very strong heroin, both physically as mentally, and even when she learns disturbing things about her past she doesn’t let them take her down. She’s also realist about the possible outcome of this last contract but she takes things as they come and tries to make the most before the end.

Maccus (who I called Marcus for the whole book) is a fallen angel who works as assassin for Paradise. Little by little life on Earth and his activity eroded his soul and he’s about to tumble in darkness. He needs a lot of time to open to the heroine (well everything is relative as it seems to me all happens in only a few days), but he feels from the start a strong need to protect her and that disturbs him.

Between them the attraction is quite immediate and the sex scenes are numerous and descriptive, like in all the novels from this author I’ve read. But if they are pleasant to read, their presence take precedence on character and plot development and I found too bad. Not to mention the feelings arriving a bit fast in my opinion.

There’s not much explanation about the world imagined by the author, but she uses notions and characters from religions and general knowledge customary in fantasy so the reader is not lost. The story’s bad guys are Gabriel and Lucifer, but I found their motivations are not clear: all this because Maccus is powerful, they’ve hated him for thousands years, and at the same time when they feel a weakness they decide unilaterally to eliminate him? If there’s more it was lost on me.

The battle scenes are equally quite descriptive but the final resolution could seem deceiving to some readers. I found it surprising and finally logical, the only way to save what was left of Maccus’ soul.

In the end a first volume pleasant to read on some points but leaving me dissatisfied on others.

This is one of my favorite books this year! I just loved the concept and play off between Heaven and Hell. I also enjoyed the chemistry between demon hunter Morrigan and the cast out angel Maccus- it was hot and steamy! If you like your sex hot with some paranormal activity this may be your perfect weekend read. I honestly don’t have any critiques for this book. It was well written and had a good plot and excellent character development. I really enjoyed learning about each character and their journey. I could definitely see this turning into a series. This ARC was provided by Netgalley and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
