The Apartment by KL Slater is a psychological thriller and features, Freya Miller and her daughter Skye. Freya’s husband left her for another woman and then died soon after. Which meant that Freya had to sell her house and move to another area with her daughter.
She is approached one day by a man in a cafe one day, who was going to pin a notice on the board and also leave notices on the tables that there was a room to let and a subsidised rent for the right tenants.
Freya and Skye, then move to Adder House in a fashionable area of London paying a peppercorn rent to Dr Marsden, the man she met at the cafe. Things take on an unexpected turn with the flat and Freya realises that not everything is as it should be, placing her self and Skye in danger.
Recommended.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

This is the true definition of a psychological thriller. This one will make you doubt what you think you know or are being told.

The story sucks you right in and gets right to it. I would highly recommend the audiobook that was written with this in mind.

The author interview was also excellent to understand where the story originated.

Fast paced, psychological thriller that centers around Freya and the apartment she is renting. Strange things start happening and chaos ensues. I was hopeful for more twist and turns and they just weren't there for me. This reminded me a of Karin Slaughter or Megan Miranda book. Without the big twist, this felt lacking and I was left wanting more. 3.5 stars because I still needed to know what happened.

The Apartment by K. L. Slater is about Freya and Skye, two young women who move into a luxurious apartment in London, only to discover that their dream home hides a dark secret.

The author builds the suspense and the mystery, making you question everything and everyone. The characters are well-developed and realistic, with complex motivations and flaws. The plot is full of twists and turns, leading to a shocking and satisfying finale.

Freya Miller has a lot on her plate. After the fallout of her husband's affair, she is about to lose her family home. Wanting security for her 5 year old daughter, Skye, she takes up an offer from someone she meets, Dr. Marsden. He is looking for a new tenant for one the flats at Adder House, it's affordable for Freya and it's in a very nice area of London. After Freya and Skye move in, things do not appear as one would think. Freya feels like she is being watched, and hears strange noises. Freya begins to look into the previous tenant and is shocked and very concerned for not only her well-being but her daughter Skye's as well.

I enjoyed this psychological thriller, it kept my interest. K.L. Slater is becoming one of my go-to authors.

When tragedy strikes and her husband unexpectedly dies, Freya is at a hit of a loss for next steps. One day, a man approaches her in a coffee shop while she is browsing through the postings for places to stay. He mentions that they have an apartment for rent at their beautiful home in the perfect neighborhood. It was seemingly too good to be true.

When Freya moves in with her young daughter, curious things start happening and she has to question if this was the right decision at all.

This was entertaining and I would suggest it!

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.

This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

A classic example of something being too good to be true. Freda Miller needs a miracle. She has been betrayed by her husband. Her living conditions force her to accept housing in a luxurious section of London for a laughable rate. Once inside the complex, things begin to happen. Unexplained and scary, Freda starts to question if these things are imagined or real. The Dr is a bit too nice to be believed. It’s a good into read , it goes quick, as a thriller.

Book kept me interested the entire way through , but the ending left me a bit disappointed. It was a surprise, but kind of felt a bit rushed and left me with a few questions

Good read though

Absolutely love KL Slater. You know your always in for a bloody good read, with plenty of turns and twists that you never see coming.
This is why physcologocical thrillers are the best genre by far.
##Another outstanding book##KLSlater#QueenOfTwists##

The story is about a woman named Freya, who along with her daughter Skye, receive an offer to move into an apartment that ends up not being the best choice. K.L. Slater is one of my favorite authors and I did enjoy The Apartment, but overall I rated it 3/5 stars.

I gave this book a one out of five stars. I didn’t really care for any of the characters or the plot. I didn’t like this book and I didn’t like the writing either. I don’t recommend this.

The Apartment
By K.L.Slater

Thank you to NetGalley & Thomas and Mercer for the copy of this story in turn for my honest review.

When Freya Miller lost her husband & her home she needs to find a place to live with her 5 year old daughter. When she meets Dr Marsden, her prayers have been answered when he invites them to live in the prestigious Adder House. Could all be as seemed and this is a gentleman just wanting to help this mother and daughter? When things start moving and appearing in their apartment, Freya starts to worry whether moving her was a good idea.

This is a great story with twists and turns that you don’t see coming. I truly enjoyed this story and thank you again for the advanced copy.

So what to say....
I actually quite enjoyed this book, it wasn't as fast paced as some of the books I've read recently BUT it kept me gripped the whole way through!
Just little things here and there actually made me wonder if I was imagining reading what I had read! And the twist at the end, WOW was not expecting the at all!!
I would definitely recommend giving this a read! Certainly kept me on the edge of my seat !

As the old adage goes: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Freya Miller is approached by an elderly doctor in a coffee shop and offered an apartment in his Kensington mansion for a very affordable monthly rent. That should have set off all sorts of alarm bells, right? But Freya and her five-year-old daughter Skye desperately need someplace to live. Eighteen months ago, Freya's husband left her for another woman and then died. She's had to sell their home and needs to vacate it soon. So the 'too good to be true' scenario actually seems like a life-saver. Once moved in though, weird things start to happen.

This is a quick page turner of a read. For some reason, it reminded me of Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin with the strange assortment of residents living in the building. The character 0f Freya herself didn't always ring true to me. She grew up in the foster care system and described herself as 'quiet but confident...I had a difficult time, but I always remember a sort of strength inside that got me through.' In this situation, she doesn't always seem to be able to draw on that strength when needed.

I received an arc of this novel back in 2020 but it fell through the cracks during those months of distracted reading. I apologize to the author and publisher for the delay. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

This was so dull. Literally barely anything happened for 90% of the book. there just wasn’t enough to show what the author was trying to convey. And then the last 5/10% was just so anticlimactic and boring that it overall was just such a disappointing read. This is my first K. L. Slater and I think I picked wrong. Having seen reviews I’ll pick up another and chalk this down to a bad egg.

This is a creepy with many strange characters. The plot is very clever.
It was very slow paced and I did guess the majority of the twists.

Such a gripping read. Bedtime was delayed quite a bit while I finished it off and this is typical when i read the author's books. I just can;t put them down, The characters pull you in, as does the suspense and tension.
