For waiting for so long for the next Dresden files I have to say this is kind of a let down. It's very much a set up for the next book, which thankfully should be coming out fairly soon. Not much happens in this book. There's no showdown. It felt like the story ended mid-book. I also found it to be so slowly paced. I got so bored for so much of this book.

4.5 The most recent (#16) Harry Dresden title has been a while coming, and it was a great read. Harry's life continues to be complicated, and full of magic and monsters but he's got friends and allies, and the battle is always interesting. I enjoy the way Butcher writes what're essentially 'formula' books ( i.e. the protagonist is thrown into a dire situation and thinks he won't prevail ) but always comes up with convoluted plots and character interactions and the endings are never quite what you would expect. Would recommend the series for fans of supernatural fiction that's got some thought and heart. Reviewed an ARC from Netgalley

In this iteration of Dresden’s adventures, we see more evidence of how Winter’s Mantle is changing him. The changes are noted in the story, but not we’ll explained, only that each one was caused by the Mantle. Not that much is explained about what happened between the end of Cold Days and the beginning of this book, and it might be interesting to know that. We do see more of Dresden’s relationship with his Grandfather. Plus, this book ends on a cliff hanger, to be resolved in the next book, which should be published in late 2020.

I liked seeing what was happening with Harry and friends, the story was action packed, and you probably won't be disappointed by the story and character development. I give this book 3 stars because I hate that the story felt unfinished when I got to the end. Major stuff was left unresolved, and I wasn't in the mood for a cliffhanger, especially when I felt like the previous book in the series also ended on a cliffhanger. Seriously, as long as the book is, it ends at what feels like the halfway point. That's not cool.

As an avid reader of the Dresden Files, this book was a highly anticipated and long-awaited next release to the series. It was highly enjoyable to read and dragged me in the same as its predecessors. I will note that it had some speed bumps as compared to Butcher's previous titles in the series, but it still came through as a wonderful continuation of Dresden's adventures.

I LOVE Harry Dresden, and have read all of the "Dresden Files" - the 4 year wait for this book was excruciating! Was it worth it? Yes and no... Harry's back along with a lot of familiar faces and hell's come to Chicago with him! The book unfolds over a very short amount of time, has a LOT of action, but ends on a cliff-hanger! IT was a good read - just wish I didn't have to wait for the next book to see how it's all going to come out, especially after that long wait for this book! Still satisfying for Dresden fans.

All the different supernatural nations have been called together to discuss a treaty. Queen Mab is holding a casual soiree in advance of the peace talks and Chicago's only wizard, Harry Dresden, has been called in to work security. Security. Among a large group of supernaturally strong and powerful beings who historically haven't gotten along. Yeah. Who wants a job like that? Sometimes it's not a choice, though. Harry has a job to do and he will work it to the best of his ability, even if that means rubbing a few folk the wrong way.

But there is one thing that trumps duty, even for Harry Dresden ... family. Harry's family is no Hallmark Movie family, but he'll fight against hell itself to protect his family - and it just might come to that.

Reading a new Harry Dresden book is like seeing your best friend from your school days after having lost touch for the past couple of decades. It's comfortable, and getting familiar with one another again is part of the fun. Of course it doesn't take long to remember why we like Harry Dresden so much. The action heats up quickly and the Dresden charm ... or is that sarcasm? ... rolls off the page early on. We also get the family/duty conflict right on the first page and we know we're in for one incredible ride.

We meet a large cast of characters - there's a meeting of every Supernatural nation remember - and Harry will battle against some of the most vicious beasts he's ever faced. And that just gets our feet wet as we wade into this book. There is SO much going on here that it would be difficult to imagine it could possibly be contained in one 350 page book. Oh yeah... it can't. There's a bit of a cliff-hanger here and the expectation is that things are only going to get worse. I can't tell you exactly why because it would give away too much of the fun in reading this, but if you already know The Dresden Files you can trust that this is likely bigger and badder and better than anything Harry's faced before.

The sub-plot to the larger story takes the main focus of this book, while at the same time, Butcher is setting up the over-arcing story. You'll definitely want to pay attention here - don't let the melee's distract you!

My only regret is that I didn't go back and re-read some of the books just prior to this. There are some things happening here, and people popping in, that I only tangentially remember. If you are waiting to read this, brush up on your Dresden Files - it will only enhance your enjoyment here.

Looking for a good book? Harry Dresden is back, in Peace Talks by Jim Butcher, and it's a big win for all his fans. But Harry's going to have to work like never before if he's hoping to score a big win. Everything we love about the Dresden Files is here - on steroids.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This was disappointing considering I loved the previous books. There was just too long a gap since the last book. However, imagining Harry as a father was interesting. Not sure I would read another if there was another.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Harry Dresden is back in the 16th book in the Dresden Files series. The Supernatural nations of the world are convening with the intent to end hostilities and Harry is assigned to the White Council’s security team. It’s just another adventure for Chicago’s only professional wizard.

I have enjoyed the Dresden Files a great deal and I’ve been patiently looking forward to this book. It’s been six years, but Peace Talks was worth it. Once again Jim Butcher delivers, with non-stop action and great dialogue. As always, the characters are interesting and varied, and the plot is well-developed. My only complaint is that this is a two-part story, with Peace Talks ending with a cliff-hanger. I find that mildly disappointing, but it would appear that the next book will be out before the end of the year. That’s very good news for Harry Dresden fans.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

Jim Butcher’s writing is just as enjoyable as always, with lively characters and witty banter. However, PEACE TALKS ended with a story that, to me, felt unresolved. In film, this would be where the action gets rolling - only to fade to black with the words “To Be Continued” appearing across the screen. Overall, it was a good read and I flew through it within a day. I just wish I didn’t reach the end of the book expecting an act 2. If you don’t mind this - I’d recommend it for sure. Otherwise, you may want to wait until you can read the next book immediately after this one.

Harry's back! Finally! After a multi-year wait the next installment of the Dresden Files is finally here and it's as if he never left as the story picks up with Harry and his friends. It's somewhat slow going initially as we learn the details of how Harry's brother Thomas is in some serious trouble and what can be done about it. Things really get rolling as the Peace Talks of the title get underway and then it's a nonstop roller coaster of a ride to the end with a long simmering issue finally coming to a head! Can't wait to read what happens next, and thankfully it won't be a long wait!

This book opens with a hook. My son and I asked How can this happen? The very first line gets you intrigued. If you haven't reviewed the story so far ie. all previous books or even if you have you will have the same reaction we had, How? I have just received the galley proofs of the final version and have read 6 chapters. More to come.
Peace Talks, What a load of nonsense, when have peace talks ever been about peace. Peace talks are always about advantages, remove a couple of pawns, take a knight out of the picture, slay a bishop, and in the end topple a king.
The whole gang is involved. Molly is trying to help, but what is the price of her involvement? Michael has his wisdom to impart. Michael one of my favorite characters is touting faith. Harry and Thomas are in deep trouble, this is standard for a wizard book. Butters , WOW can't say more he has asked for this to remain a secret. WOW
Peace Talks, I,m finished. Why are these books so short? We wait years to read more Dresden and friends and suddenly the book is finished shelved while we look for something close to as interesting as these books. This book feels like an intro to the next book, it started with the hook and ends with a cliff hanger. Good luck finding your next read.

I loved this new installment of the Dresden Files. Jim Butcher delivers on an action packed adventure with Harry Dresden. I can't wait to read the next one!

I've been waiting years for another Harry Dresden book and it was worth the wait. Everything you love about Harry Dresden is here - his underdog wizardly magic, self-deprecating sense of humor and overwhelming supernatural foes. Like most Dresden books this one leaves the biggest battle for the next book, Battleground, which apparently is following two months later in September 2020. I can't wait! Highly recommended!

Harry Dresden has a lot of balls to juggle. As a wizard in the White Council, he has been entrusted with keeping the upcoming negotiations with an eldritch horror from going sideways. As the Winter Knight, he has a terrifying boss, a complicated system of obligations, and rage issues. He's also a dad, a friend, and a soon-to-be uncle, all of which have him moving heaven and earth to keep his own safe. Harry keeps tossing out quips and fireballs as the stakes climb ever higher. The long-awaited entry is lots of fun, featuring all manner of old friends, but fair warning: it ends in a cliffhanger.

As the 16th book in the Dresden Files series, Peace Talks continues the adventures of Harry Dresden -- Wizard, Winter Knight, and general wise acre. If you are a fan of the Dresden Files you will not be disappointed. It has all the wild adventure, death defying battles and quippy quips you expect from a Dresden Files book.

My only real complaint here is that I could REALLY do with a little less of the constant, low-level sexism of this book/series, but I knew what I was getting into going in. Sigh.

I would recommend this book to fans of Harry Dresden, and really anyone who likes urban fantasy with a humorous edge. Though, listen, it's the 16th book. I wouldn't recommend this as a stand-alone read. Too much plot under the bridge. You are going to need to start at #1.

I used to love the Dresden files, but as I've seen others do online I also have to complain about the amount of time between books. This is almost on par with G.R.R. Martin. I really dont want to have to reread a book just to try to remember what happened in the story. Also, maybe I've just outgrown the series, but it doesn't seem as charming anymore.

Another fun book from Butcher, but the abrupt ending feels less like a cliffhanger and more like an unfinished galley?

Jim Butcher has become an accomplished author of fantasy. He is particularly popular for his series known as the "Dresden Files," of which this book is the latest.. Butcher manages to write in an entertaining and yet also serious manner, and the main character, Harry Dresden, always tries to do what is right, or rather what is most right! I would recommend this book to those who delight in lively writing and well-thought out characters. The main disadvantage to this book is that if you want to understand everything, you need to have read the previous books in the series.

My husband has been eagerly awaiting this book! I was so happy to be able to get it for him. He loved the book but was not too pleased with the ending. He was expecting a much larger book because he follows Jim Butcher and he updates his fan on chapter counts. Then they just announced Battle Ground coming out this year too so he was OK with it again. Harry Dresden is 9ne of my favorite characters and we look forward to more!! Thank you for the opportunity to read this book early!!
