I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

Everything I thought I could expect from this book wasn't the case. After reading the blurb I thought It would be predictable, fluffy and generally not for me when in fact it was full of surprises and kept me hooked from the first sentence. It also read like a Hollywood blockbuster in the best possible sense. I couldn't recommend it more!

i sadly started this book a while ago and was really enjoying it, but then lost access to it so i wasn't able to finish it. i really liked the way the story was being set up, as well as enjoyed the main character and her point of view, however, as i read this a long time ago i don't fully remember any of the details of it. i do think i will eventually pick this book up again, i just don't know when and don't feel rushed to do so either. however, if you enjoy ya stories with a little bit of magical realism and a relatable mc, this book might be the one for you. and also, the cover is stunning.

Everything I Thought I Knew was not what I was expecting at all.

I went into this book knowing nothing but it being about a 17 year old girl needing a heart transplant. That was honestly all I needed to know. The topic of heart surgery is interesting to me as I’ve had two myself.
I was not expecting the little fantasy twist in the story but I truly did love it.

This book makes you think. I had so many questions while reading this. Is the heart more than just an organ? Does almost losing your life change you or did you find your true self?

I’ve seen mixed reviews on the ending but while I absolutely cried my eyes out, I still liked it. We can’t always have a happy ending and its something I understand with this story.

For a YA book this one had so much depth and it forces you to think of things you wouldn’t at a young age.

I don’t recommend this to everyone. I do think the fantasy element will be too “weird” for some people. But if you enjoy a little magic in your life, please read this.

This was such a moving book! It reminded me of Loretta Ellsworth's "In A Heartbeat", in the sense that both were stories about girls who need to get a donation after their entire life is halted; but, from there on, "Everything I Thought I Knew" becomes something else entirely. I really enjoyed the concept of cell memory, and how it was used here. Even though I didn't 100% connect with the MC, I was still interested in learning how her tale would end, and I enjoyed finding out!

I tried reading this multiple times but got 100 pages in and wasnt interested in reading anymore. The characters didn't draw me in and neither did the plot. I wish the beginning would've given us more to go from so we cared but it was just a little dry.

I loved this book so much. It's voice-y, dreamy, fast-paced, and deals with one of my favorite subjects of all time: the potential existence of a multiverse. I will be reading everything this author puts out.

When suddenly everything in life changes, it becomes difficult to adapt. You live for the sake of living with no goals or motives. It seems you lost everything, this is what happens here with our protagonist Chloe.

Chloe was an A type student with a plan to attend a top tier college but everything goes waste the day she collapses and is told she needs a heart transplant. This story is her journey to adapt the new heart as her own. I had goosebumps in the last parts of the book and it was shocking, mind bending, I don't know what more to write or say.

This book is an epitome of letting us know how important are second chances. How sometimes the answer you get are not the ones you want or expect. It tells us that there is so much more to the world, to this universe that we will question everything we thought we knew.

Shannon Takaoka's this debut novel is a page-turner. It is fascinating, well paced and makes us root for Chloe. The twist will hit you hard and make you think what was it. It will give you all the feels.

If you enjoy YA book with a touch of sci-fi, then this one is for you. Expect the unexpected.

I went into this book knowing nothing but it being about a 17 year old girl needing a heart transplant, and it delivered—mostly.
The first 3/4 of this book was good! I was into the storyline and characters... but the ending threw me. I admit I do like endings that are a bit confusing or left open so this book wasn’t a disappointment overall. I appreciated where the author what the author was doing but I do wish it was better developed or explained.

Overall, I can’t wait to read more from this author!

I picked up this book with lots of interest, however I was unable to finish the book as it was different to my expectations, and did not grab my interest anymore. I will definitely try to revisit the book at a later date so I can publish my full, detailed review.

Chloe is a young teen who seemingly has everything she could ever want, until her life does a complete 180 and she is forced to rediscover herself. Through this book we follow Chloe as she finds love and friendship in unexpected places and people. The book takes on challenging teen perspective on what may be considered a perfect life and questions these society enforced stereotypes. Our main characters is humble and likeable, while her young love interest is mysterious. Through ups and downs you are given a plot twist that may leave readers pondering the meaning of life.

While this book is definitely targeted towards a younger audience, I still found it enjoyable. I feel like my rating could have been higher had I enjoyed the ending a bit more. It incorporates an element of fantasy that seems to disconnect from the story. The theme itself is a bit mysterious but it isn’t unique and I wish it would have been a little more rounded.

I flew through this book in two sittings, devouring this strange but amazing story. Everything I Thought I Knew is an easy book to read, though it will leave you thinking about life and the universe. I loved Chloe as a character and although some of the story was a little predictable, it didn't take away any of the enjoyment I felt whilst watching it all unravel. I would definitely recommend picking this book up, and I'm looking forward to hopefully reading more from Takaoka in the future.

I didn't expect to love this book so much. At first it wasn't my cup of tea, but the characters were well written and the plot was interesting enough. It's lovely and heart-warming!

This book was so so good. The topic interested me because my husband will be getting a kidney transplant soon. With that being said, I was hoping there would be more on the transplant process and the mc waiting to get a heart. I felt so many emotions while reading this book, it was crazy. Also, the cellular memory thing was 👌. I did not however like the ending 🤦🤷

This book appealed to me in part because I was also someone who was the recipient of something from a donor. In my case it was bone graft. In my case, I never even thought to look into the story of the donor. But it pops into your mind sometimes throughout the years.

Now Chloe has a a darn good reason to wonder about her donor. After Chloe received a mew heart, she starts to have memories that aren’t her memories. She starts to have interests that she didn’t have before the surgery.
Her life has changed so much. When you go through a major surgery and have a big recovery time, your life feels like it’s put on hold for awhile while everyone else’s keeps moving on.
This happens during her senior year of highschool. Her friends are going to parties and doing senior year milestones while she recovers from surgery. Her friends haven’t given up on her but their paths aren’t parallel at the moment.

Chloe starts taking summer school to graduate and becomes friends with Jane. She also starts taking surfing lessons and meets Kai as a result. He’s her surf instructor.

Chloe has memories that don’t make sense to her. She sees a grey dog, she sees a man crying, a motorcycle, a woman, all of these thoughts keep circling through her head. At night she has nightmares about a motorcycle crash.

Her and Jane decide to look into who the donor was, maybe these are somehow the donor’s memories. But the donor’s family doesn’t want to be contacted.

I definitely enjoyed this story and was surprised by the twist. Was it perfectly explained? Not really. Did it all wrap up a little too suddenly? In my opinion, yes. But was this a story that pulled you in and wouldn’t let you put the book down until you’d finished? Absolutely.
