This is such a cute children's picture book! It contains an endearing story of an unlikely friendship between a goose and a bear, who bond in a secluded pond in northern Canada, "far from any people." With the cold seasons approaching, the two friends are separated when and the bear needs to hibernate and the goose needs to fly south to a warmer climate, however they both happily return to their pond to resume their friendship when the weather warms up. This book can be used to teach children to recognize that the possibilities and benefits of friendship are endless.

I absolutely adored this book by Andrew Wald! It was beautifully illustrated, and I loved the vibrancy of the pages. Zoey and Henry make a wonderful pair, and I loved the uniqueness of expressing the joy of diversity using a bear and a goose. This was a joy to read, and I am adding it to my ever growing stack of books to gift to my fellow parent friends!

Oh my, this was so lovely. A Surprising Friendship tells the story of a bear and a goose becoming friends and overcoming the obstacles of their differnet natures. It's a beautiful story about diversity, friendship and acceptance and even after only a few pages both characters are already dear to me.

The watercolour illustrations by Tara J. Hannon and the adorable bear paw prints on the end pages round out this book to something really beautiful. I fell in love with the pictures and colours, especially Zoey's (the goose) detailed face on one of the pages.

I think the message could have been a bit stronger with one or two pages more at the end, but it doesn't feel incomplete as it is. As an adult I was all nerves near the ending, afraid this might take a sad turn but I didn't have to worry.

A Surprising Friendship leaves you with a happy and warm smile and great opener to talk about friendship between unique, diverse personalities with your little ones. A charming read that will find it's home in many houses.

This is a very endearing story of a surprising friendship between a goose and a bear. Zoey and Henry love playing with each other so much that they try to resist their needs for wintering as long as they can. It's heart-warming to read about such strong and positive friendship. It's all accompanied with beautiful, full page illustrations that bring the story to life. I'll definitely read this one for my niece when she's older, and it would be a perfect story time read.

As parents or grandparents, we want our kiddos to develop healthy friendships. A friendship that brings out the best in each other, a friendship to treasure. At first they were wary of each other, but with humor they discovered what they had in common and the differences that made them unique and fun to be around.

Such a cute and endearing story with great illustration. I love that the author used hibernation and geese flying south as a premise for unlikely friends. My 3.5 year old loved it at bedtime and was more excited that she and the goose share a name. She giggled loudly when the question was posed about bears eating geese. A very good children's book.
