I will leave a review on Amazon or B&N on Aug 25, 2020

Once in a Blue Moon is the 10th book in the Blessings, Georgia series. I haven't read all of the books but have read several in this series. I had no problems following along with the storyline even though this book is part of a series. I loved the setting of the book, and would love to live in a small town like this one. The people are nice, and look out for others not everyplace is like that in this day and age we live in. I would certainly recommend this book to others.

I received a ARC from NetGalley and the publisher Sourcebooks and was under no obligation to leave a positive review, all opinions expressed here are my own.

A sweet slice of small town life…

Blessings, Georgia has been a favourite place of mine for a while now. This is book ten already but instead of becoming less interesting the characters, and their stories, just get more interesting…

Cathy was on the run and stumbled on this small town by chance. Luck, fate – life is funny that way but there were only good things in store (for the most part…). Duke was another unexpected, but wonderful turn and their friendship, their feelings, bloomed under the watchful eye of the town’s residents and his family. They were real people, meeting, falling in love and dreaming about the future while life continued to delight, shock and keep them on their toes…

I love how ordinary, everyday things sit side by side with the not ordinary at all. It’s all written with the ‘yeah, that’s life isn’t it’ brush even while dramatic ups and downs – and the people that caused them – roll right along. Cathy and Duke were down to earth but unique and intriguing at the same time. With supporting characters providing all the comfort and colour you could wish for, this town captured my attention and my heart once again. It’s hard to pick a favourite but I will warn you now. When you come across Melvin Lee, protect yourself because he will steal your heart without even trying…

A woman hiding from her dangerous ex and a man who has always placed himself last to care for others find a special kind of something when they least expect it. The small town full of hope out in the Georgia countryside works its magic once again on a new romance pair and I got comfortable for the heartwarming tale.
Review

Once in a Blue Moon is the tenth of the Blessings, Georgia series of standalone romances. A reader can enjoy the books out of order, but fair warning that each one updates on the lives of previous couples.

Cathy Terry grew up off grid in the Alaskan Wilderness and then made a huge mistake when she married a wealthy Vegas casino owner who abused and cheated on her only to threaten her life when she divorced him. She put those early skills to the test and went off grid once again only to surface in a little Georgia town where she planned to winter before hitting the trail once again. But, when an injury forces her to accept the help of a big, generous rancher and other town members step up to help look after a stranger, she isn’t so sure about moving on. Duke is everything her ex was not and he makes her feel like something special.

Duke Talbot took over the family farm when his parents died and set aside his plans to hold down things while his younger brother finished school. He has been content to look after the farm and his family while appreciating the community he calls home, but it is only when he catches sight of pert, red-headed Cathy Terry jogging through town that he feels a spark and a desire for something more. Knowing that she’s skittish around men and tends to keep to herself, he is cautious and gentle when he offers to help her while her ankle heels and while she adjusts to the idea of staying instead of running. For the first time ever, he plans to go after something- rather someone- just for himself.

I have loved so many books in this series with the theme of a stranger coming to town who is in need and the Blessings people rising up and helping them. I have no idea if there is really a town out there like this, but it is nice to imagine there is.

Cathy Terry is on the run from an ex who has enough wealth to have her under surveillance and tracked because he fears she knows enough about his bad dealings to turn him. It was a good strong suspense element in the story. But, it was also neat knowing she had a background of living off-grid and living out in the wilderness. Her skills come in handy when a few exciting incidents crop up. There is even a side story of cattle rustling in this one that affect Duke and his brother’s herd. I liked that the romance was surrounded by all these other activities and situations.

The romance was on the sweet side and felt slow-burn even though time-wise it wasn’t that long. Duke is around forty and Cathy is also beyond thirty. They are mature adults who know what they want and communicate this well taking things step by step and facing things together whether it’s Duke’s over-protectiveness or Cathy’s impulsiveness.

Overall, I enjoyed this one, but I did have a couple niggles. There were some meandering moments and a few times where the story would go off on a new tangent and wrap that up with me wondering what it had to do with anything other than an incidental side story. The biggest tangent was toward the end when the author did this rapid check in with several families around the community like this was the final story, but based on that last tantalizing sentence about a stranger coming into town on his bike, I don’t think it was. I had a couple moments when I thought the book was wrapping up only to have it just keep going with another thing that strung out the end. It did finally arrive and was adorable.

Then there was a spot in the story that seemed to come out of nowhere when Cathy chose to get judgmental toward the rest of the town for a specific neighborhood being neglected. I’m not down on her for seeing a need and wanting to do something about it. That’s actually great and shows a big heart. But, here’s the thing. The problem was an absentee landlord from another part of the country. I didn’t like that she was shaming the locals who had proven time and again that they did not deliberately neglect any kind of need they came across even to strangers and newcomers like herself. She’d gotten millions in alimony after her divorce and she was able to throw that at the problem. Again, that was good and generous, but those people she tried to shame weren’t loaded like that and did pitch in where they could when they understood the issue. It took me more words to describe my issue than it took up in the book so this really wasn’t a big thing in the plot, but it stuck in my craw.

While there were drawn out moments at times, this complaint is not about seeing the series regulars showing up throughout Cathy and Duke’s story taking turns playing important roles. I like the little check ins as Duke and Cathy encounter all the people in their usual places and at their usual activities.

In summary, it was a sweet heartwarming story taking place over the holiday season in a setting I adore with characters I found engaging. I can recommend this book/series to those who like gentle pace, adorable cast of small town characters, and a romance with a pinch of spice.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Once in a Blue Moon by Sharon Sala, returns to the small town of Blessings, Georgia. This small town has so much character and the people living there truly stick together. This book was Cathy and Duke’s story. Cathy is running from Vegas as her newly divorced powerful ex-husband who is having her followed and threatened to kill her. She ends up stopping in Blessings, Georgia for a few months. She meets Duke and the town residents and decides she may stay as everyone is so nice. There is suspense, humor, friendly and helpful neighbors, and just an overall happiness that a safe place has been found. An excellent book that I highly recommend reading.
I received this advanced reader’s copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This book starts out with a BANG! We begin with a husband and wife in a heated argument with Police coming in. AND THEN… wake up wake up. Jeffrey Dean Morgan end up on the TV screen, he is definitely someone to make you forget about any bad dream you may have had. Six months for a divorce to finalize and a lump-sum of thirty million dollars probably wouldn’t be so bad except that with money comes great power and responsibility. Did I emphasize POWER?? Cathy has lost all of her friends thanks to her husband. Cathy knew there was only one thing to do-disappear! She ends up in small town Blessings, Colorado from her glitzy life in Las Vegas. BIG difference! She managed to fly under the radar, until she takes a fall and good ol’ Samaritan Duke Talbot watches her take quite a spill and insists that she go to the Emergency Room, he gives her two choices- he drive her or she take an ambulance. We are then taken on quite the adventure and the book ends in a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to find out what happens next- is there a sequel? I loved this book and have liked so many others by Sharon Sala. I look forward to reading more by her in the near future.

Sharon Sala is one of my favorite authors so I'll try not to gush too much. I love the setting of Blessings, Georgia. The town and the people always come together for each other. Once in a Blue Moon is a keeper.

Once in a Blue Moon by Sharon Sala is a beautiful story. Cathy runs away from an unhealthy relationship and ends up in Blessings, Georgia. Cathy has several experiences that help you get to know her and the town better.

Duke meets her after he sees her take a fall. Duke is awkward and adorable. I loved how he was open and honest with her about his feelings. Such a breath of fresh air in a romance.

I have not read all of the other books in the series but you fall in love with the town’s characters and want to go back and read their story.

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy a heartwarming story. It reminds me of books by Jodi Thomas. Although not a Christian book it has some christian references.

Sexual content- kissing, physical scenes are behind closed doors.
Violence - shooter, abusive ex husband

Another wonderful visit to Blessings, Georgia. Cathy Terry has left her life of privilege behind her after divorcing her wealthy husband. She took his threats against her seriously and has stayed off the grid before arriving in Blessings, Georgia. Duke Talbot works their family ranch with his brother and meets Cathy when she takes a fall while out jogging. There’s something about her that he can’t resist and she values his willingness to be of help to everyone in town. Can she get past the trauma of her marriage, be safe and have a future in Blessings…with Duke? Wonderful characters with a strong story that encompasses Cathy and Duke along with the many lovable town members that we have met before. One of my favorite authors, Ms. Sala knows how to write a well-rounded story that tugs on your heart strings. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. Let’s return once again to ‘Blessings, Georgia‘ for Duke and Cathy’s story in ‘Once in a Blue Moon‘. The release date is August 25, 2020. I have loved this series for a long time, and every new title is a gem that I cannot wait to explore.

Cathy has just divorced her abusive, wealthy husband who makes veiled threats at their final meeting. She’s decided to leave life as she knew it far behind… okay, she’s running as far as she can to start fresh with no ex to threaten her new, hopefully, safe life. She’s decided to settle in Blessings, Georgia for the winter, at least, for the town is welcoming and feels safe for now. Unfortunately, Cathy suffered a bad fall while out and the good side to that is meeting a knight in shining armor in the form of Duke, a local rancher. A friendship soon develops, although each is rapidly falling in love and hoping the other feels the same.

Cathy wants nothing more than to settle down in Blessings, stay with the man she’s come to trust and love, and feel safe in a town full of kind, good-hearted people for the rest of her days. When trouble comes searching for her trying to bring her past into her present Cathy must make decisions – run again, or take a stand for her future with the man she loves at her side.

As always in the ‘Blessings, Georgia‘ series, you’ll find humor, a touch of suspense, almost instant attraction kind of love, and people who feel as real as your next-door neighbors. I enjoyed Duke and Cathy’s road to a happy ever after so much. Sure, there were some potholes, but nothing worth having comes easily (most times). If you love a really good romance, with people you’ll feel comfortable with immediately, in a town that doesn’t know the meaning of a stranger… then ‘Once in a Blue Moon’ is a perfect match for you.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Sourcebooks Casablanca via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

It just goes to show that even rich men are abusive jerks sometimes.

I like that she has life skills.

Man, she's touchy.

Mr. Phillips is a smart man.

I never thought I would advocate cattle branding, but I am now.

Love a man who can cook.

Aw, Melvin Lee is cute. Bad day to run away, though. I feel bad for his parents, but his mother should know better.

Oh crap.

Attagirl.

Now I want to go to a fish-fry.

Bless Rachel and nosy busybodies.

Hell. Yes. She is my idol.

I feel a tiny bit bad for Brewer.

Thank God she did not have kids with that guy.

Nice ring.

God works in mysterious ways.

Suck it, Meiner. You are why people think New Yorkers are rude.

My goodness, what a significant wedding dress! An heirloom, for sure.

Cathy Terry is a very smart woman. Divorced for less than a year, her last interaction with her ex-husband resulted in a threat for her life. She carefully calculated what it would take to disappear. Granted enough money in the divorce settlement, Cathy made wise decisions...decisions that led her to Blessings, Georgia. She traveled for quite some time, but with winter approaching, she decided she needed to stop for awhile.

Cathy rented a house, and before long, she realized that Blessings is a wonderful place. Not only does she finally feel safe, she loves the people in the small town. One day while out jogging, she falls and hurts her ankle. Duke Talbot saw her go down, so he rushes to her rescue and ends up escorting her to the hospital. One look in her eyes and Lucas was lost. However, he sensed a strong wariness in her, so he knew to tread carefully.

As Cathy recuperates, she not only benefits from Lucas's kindness, but that of the wonderful townsfolk. Their kindness is not something that she is used to. Meanwhile, her ex begins to go to any extremes necessary to find her, and to end her. So, Cathy continues to draw close to Lucas unaware that her ex Blaine is desperately searching for her. There is another side of Cathy that shines through the pages of this book, and that is almost a separate story. This all blended together to make a remarkable book in a beautiful series.

This wonderful book in the Blessings, Georgia series is a wonderful addition. Although I only have had the opportunity to read two previous books in this series, this story did perfectly well as a standalone. There are a bevy of characters interspersed in this story, and no doubt, they all appear in previous books. As a matter of fact, I easily recognized a few people from the stories that I did get a chance to read.

I was able to read this book in one sitting and enjoyed the mix of romance, friendship and intrigue. I am definitely going to stick with this series, and look forward to book #11, Somebody to Love, which is set for release in February, 2021.

Many thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary copy of Once in a Blue Moon by Sharon Sala for the purpose of reading and reviewing prior to publication. My opinions are my own, and no one has influenced them.

I have now read quite a few books in this amazing series. At first, it took a bit of time to get used to Ms. Sala’s writing style, since so many characters have a point of view, and it changes quickly and often. Now that I have adjusted, I no longer find it distracting. In fact, I enjoy it.

Once in a Blue Moon is a delightful romance that kept me engaged from the first page to the last. The plot is so unique, and the characters are real, both are heartwarming and touched my heart. This book has a bit of it all. It gives a great feel to small town USA and the endearing characters in Blessings, Georgia. Once in a Blue Moon even has a bit of suspense, which I’ve come to expect in Ms. Sala’s books, and a wonderful love story to enhance my reading experience.

Cathy Terry’s character is spunky, a true survivor. Her ex-husband refuses to leave her alone, so she takes matters into her own hands and disappears, hiking across the country and landing in Blessings, Georgia. I loved her surprise when she meets the citizens and her amazement when she welcomed with open arms. As the survivor of an abusive husband, she deserves to find her soulmate.

Duke Talbot is a true southern gentleman and a charming hero who touched my heart from the first scene. His determination to get to know the mysterious Cathy quickly endeared him to me. He’s such a protector, going out of his way to embrace a stranger in trouble.

The romance between Cathy and Duke is sweet, and the attraction is strong. It centers the love scenes more on the emotions and not the physical aspect of making love. I enjoyed their love story and wanted them to have a lovely happy ending!

If you like small town USA stories with an endearing set of characters, along with a great romance, then you will love Once in a Blue Moon as much as I did. Each book in this series is better than the last. Although Once in a Blue Moon reads as a stand-alone, I strongly suggest reading the books in order to capture the essence of this wonderful and quirky small town. Happy reading!

I love this series and all the characters in Blessings, Georgia.

This story follows Cathy from a privileged yet abusive life in Las Vegas, to the small town life in Blessings. Duke loves his life but feels that something is missing. These two have a chance meeting and fate keeps bringing them together.

This was such a heartwarming story that has a bit of drama mixed in. I enjoyed catching up with the other members of the town and seeing where life is taking them.

Once in a Blue Moon is a book that makes you feel good and will stay with you long after you are finished.

Thank you NetGalley, Harlequin, and Ellen Meister for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
What do you get when you mix The Shopping Network, a murder and a splash of romance? A pretty decent book. I can’t say this one blew me out of the water, but I think it was me, not it. I expected this book to be heavy in romance and light in thriller. Unfortunately for me it was the other way around. The good news is there is a HUGE audience for this style of book. The writing is great and the characters are solid, I just got bored.

Once in a Blue Moon:
Thank you NetGalley, Sourcebooks Casablanca and Sharon Sala for gifting me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
If you loved Nicholas Sparks’ Safe Haven, you’ll love Once in a Blue Moon by Sharon Sala. Cathy Terry finally got the courage to leave her abusive ex-husband, but he isn’t willing to make it easy. She knows she needs to get away and start new and what better place to do that then Blessings, Georgia? Duke Talbot has yet to settle down, but that’s ok with him. Refusing to lower his own standards for a partner, he lives with his brother and sister-in-law, helping them run the family ranch. Duke and Cathy have a meet-cute that leads to friendship that leads to... love?
This is book number 10 in Sharon Sala’s Blessings, Georgia series. I had no problem reading this as a stand alone and now I have nine other books to go back and read! If you’re looking for a light read with a HEA, look no further!

Visiting with the good folks in Sharon Sala's Blessings, Georgia series is always a treat, and this tenth novel in the series is no exception. I also seem to be reading and reviewing several books about abused women lately, and I'll warn you up front that this novel does contain that same theme, although the author doesn't dwell on scenes of abuse. However, we do get a taste of the verbal abuse from Cathy Wagner's husband, whose controlling behavior, cheating, and threats of death if she divorces him, are the reasons Cathy eventually ends up becoming the newcomer in Blessings, as Cathy Terry, having taken back her maiden name. It's one more excellent read from Ms. Sala, and it gets 5 stars from this reader.

In Cathy Terry, Ms. Sala has created one incredibly memorable heroine. To get out of her posh Las Vegas lifestyle and away from her husband's death threats, Cathy was one smart cookie. When she left her marriage, she left with only the clothes on her back and a backpack--her handbag, ID, driver's license, credit cards, and car all left behind. She was granted $30 million dollars as a divorce settlement and when her husband wasn't paying attention, moved it to 3 different banks across the country, before climbing on a bus heading for Colorado. From there she wandered, backpacking her way across the country, never staying in one place too long, until, when the weather turned colder, she found herself in Blessings, where she decided to rent a house and hole up there for the winter, mainly keeping to herself, but if you've read any of Ms. Sala's previous Blessings novels, you already know that no one stays a stranger in Blessings for long.

Cathy's one habit of jogging several miles through town every morning, and her bright red hair have been noticed and aroused curiosity, but it's only when she turns her ankle while jogging and falls to the ground just as Duke Talbot is driving by, stops, introduces himself, and takes her to the hospital to get checked out, that Cathy starts to realize that the good folks in Blessings are unlike any people she's ever met, and certainly far different from the rich, callous, and nasty "friends" she used to associate with in Las Vegas, and who turned on her when she divorced her billionaire husband.

We've met Duke in previous novels and he's a big, tall, handsome hunk of a man, is attracted to Cathy from the start, and soon realizes that she's hiding from someone or something, and goes into protective mode, waiting to take Cathy home from the hospital, and running errands to make sure she has pain meds, a walker, and food she doesn't have to prepare while standing on her badly sprained ankle. As soon as word of her accident gets out on the Blessings grapevine, and people start turning up to check on her to see if she needs anything, and dropping off casseroles and cookies she's overwhelmed by their kindness and thoughtfulness. But Cathy is also aware that her ex-husband is most assuredly either looking for her or having her followed to exact retribution for her leaving him, and she still fears that he might possibly kill her or have someone else do so, and she doesn't open up and spill her secrets easily, but Duke Talbot is nothing if not persistent, and slowly but surely, Cathy learns that she can trust him.

In addition to the sweet romance building between Cathy and Duke, there are more than a few things going on in Blessings--from cattle rustling, a rabid animal in the park at a child's birthday party, an 8-year-old runaway boy, and more, and little by little, the townspeople get to know Cathy and she gets to realize what a very special place Blessings is.

If this is your first visit to Blessings, you're going to meet many of the characters who've appeared in earlier novels, so while Once in a Blue Moon works as a standalone, I highly recommend reading some or all of the previous novels in this series first, and you'll soon come to realize that Shangri-la isn't a hard-to-find little valley somewhere in the Himalayas, it can be found much closer to home in a wonderful little town called Blessings.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Sharon Sala has me enamored with this series. Blessings, Georgia is the place I would relocate to if it were a real town because not only is it thoroughly described as a beautiful and peaceful place to live, but the townspeople are one of a kind. There’s just something about these god honest people with hearts of pure gold that get me every time. I could read these books repeatedly. If you enjoy a cleaner romance book (sex scenes are basically fade to black), with wholesome characters who have values and kindness in their hearts, then this is a must-read series. I honestly cannot get enough and always look forward to being back in Blessings.

In this one, readers will meet Duke and Cathy. Duke hasn’t found the woman for him and prefers to stick by his brother and sister in laws side. He works, goes home, sleeps, and repeat. Cathy on the other hand has come from riches but she’s running from her past that is ultimately coming back for her. When she gets to Blessings, she believes it’ll be a place to just pass through. She has no idea what this small town has in store for her, especially when a man named Duke saves her after a bad fall.

As with the other books in this series, there’s a TINY bit of suspense (so tiny you wouldn’t even consider it suspense at all), and insta love with wholesome characters. These are GOOD people and their hearts are so pure that is becomes refreshing to be after all the dirty books I read! I highly recommend this one and all the books in the series. They are among my top favorites of all time.

ONCE IN A BLUE MOON is a wonderfully paced contemporary romance that I did not want to put down. It kept my interest from the first page to the last. This is the tenth book in the BLESSINGS, GEORGIA series, and I’ve previously only read four of them so I have some catching up to do, although I felt at home immediately.

We get to know many of the characters so well that they could have been my friends or neighbors—and I live in New England! There is a depth to the characters and many story lines are seamlessly woven together. But through them all, Cathy and Duke are front and center.

There is a richness to the telling of the story as we hear “Bless Your Heart” quite a few times. Cathy is a newcomer and stranger to Blessings, but not for long. Southern hospitality abounds when she takes a spill jogging and is helped by Duke, a stranger. From there, the people in town get to know who she is and where she lives. And Cathy becomes part of the town.

Having recently relocated from Las Vegas in an unusual manner, she’s not used to small town living. She does one good deed after another though, and when her past looks like it will overtake her, she finds help in unexpected places. As she grows to love Blessings and its inhabitants, especially one in particular, she wrestles with whether to make Blessings her forever home or just the stopping-off place like she planned.

She and Duke have chemistry from the beginning, and they are always doing nice things for each other. His relationship with his brother and his extended family and people in town are heartwarming. Duke, Cathy, and so many others are caring individuals, and it shines through.

Though this is a feel-good story, there are some dark moments. But that only serves to make the kindness throughout this book stand out. With a cast of characters you can’t help but love, ONCE IN A BLUE MOON is a tale of friendships, family, and belonging. The story has nice closure and a happily ever after that was nicely portrayed, but it also had a small cliffhanger to hint that we’ll be back at least once more in Blessings, Georgia. I for one can’t wait!

A RECOMMENDED READ along with the rest of the series!

The town of Blessings does it again. The lovely characters who populate this small town take newcomer Cathy Terry who is escaping from her abusive past to their hearts and speed up her healing process. Well maybe a part of that healing is handsome rancher Duke Talbot who comes to her rescue after a hit and run and sort of never leaves.
Cathy is a survivor. She grew up off the grid in Alaska and and knows how to revert back to her roots and live rough and tough regardless of the money she has in her bank account. With winter approaching she decides to shelter in a rental in small town Blessings. Her only indulgence is running and that too is curtailed when she's knocked down by a car. Fortunately Duke Talbot saw it all go down and came to her rescue. It's hard to imagine this sweet caring man is single but luckily for Cathy he's been waiting for her to show up in his life.
Another plus for Cathy, Duke comes with a ready made family. He has a brother and sister-in-law and connections to the town that span generations. Cathy finally figures out what it means to be a part of a family because not only does the Talbot family adopt her but so does the entire town and all the lovely people we've met in earlier stories. Cathy's attempt to pay it forward with a young woman with two children gives her a new passion and a way to spend all that money that she earned in her divorce settlement.
Of course there is a serpent in paradise. Even as Cathy thought she had escaped from her vindictive ex-husband he finds her again. On a shopping trip to the nearest mall, Cathy runs into one of the empty socialite house wives she had once hung out with and soon the news filters to her nasty ex.  Danger now stalks Cathy in Blessings but Cathy has had enough of running and tackles it head on bringing her into the orbit of the local news and an expose on her nasty ex that has him running for his  life from his nasty cohorts. Cathy sure is a magnet for trouble when another trip to the mall gets her there as two masked men decide to target the mall in a shooting stampede.
Fortunately Duke has her back. The romance between Cathy and Duke is slow and sweet and oh so romantic. As the two of them spend time together, renovate an old house and support each other, this story is exactly what we've come to expect from this series.
If you haven't read the series before the story can be read as a standalone but the author does catch you you up with the various characters from the earlier books so it's good to visit a while.
