"One of Us Is Lying" meets "The Cabin in the Woods." Five teens who met over a fantasy game gather in one member's remote family cabin for a final match. Each, however, has secrets--and one has nurtured her inner psychopath as well as her gaming skills. These kids are used to dying in the game--but now, death is real and final. The game is engaging, and the suspense is page-turning. The teens feature diversity: autism, transgender, non-binary pronouns, reliance on crutches. Descriptive passages are just a bit too drawn-out and repetitive, as is unfortunately typical in Nijkamp's writing. Between the cool cover and an easy premise to booktalk, I see teens wanting this title.
