For years I have loved the Little People Big Dreams series because it brings heroes and heroines to life for younger readers. This new series published by Rockridge press (I have already read the one about Frida Kahlo) expands on what Little People does and offers older children a thorough account of these heroines lives.

This book is about Ruth Bader GInsburg, Supreme Court Justice and national treasure! Amidst its colorful pages, children will read about her life as a young lady, a law student, a lawyer, and ultimately a Supreme Court Justice.

A good, engaging biography of a remarkable woman, geared toward beginning readers, told in age-appropriate language, what's not to love? This series makes its subjects interesting, and teaches a lot without being overwhelming. There are timelines throughout, photos, maps, discussion questions, bright illustrations that bring the text to life, and a glossary at the end to help with terms used in the text, in this case, many legal and social terms the intended reader is probably not familiar with. The book tackles such weighty subjects as religious and gender prejudice in a way that doesn't talk down to its reader, and inspires children to fight for what they believe in. I learned a lot about RBG, what an amazing woman, what a great role model! Definitely recommended!

I absolutely love these new biographical books! They are presented in such a way that allows the child to really get a picture of the topic, from birth and throughout their lives. In addition, it's presented in a FUN way! My daughter can't wait to read more books like this. I personally loved that she read about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and wants to be like her when she grows up!

We read this in honor of her birthday. A great way to teach little kids about her and the job she holds. The illustrations were great. Definitely kept my 6 year old entertained and taught him a thing or 2.

This is a fine history of RBG and a good way to introduce young readers to her legacy. The illustrations were fine and I appreciated the way they showed her challenges and how she overcame them.

THE STORY OF RUTH BADER GINSBURG • Susan B. Katz • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ok, I LOVE this book. What a perfect introduction to such an incredible woman in U.S. History, as well as many serious topics, such as how women are treated differently just because of their sex.

This book did a fantastic job of boiling down complex issues into something that a budding reader can understand. The visuals provided in this book also brought Justice Ginsburg’s story to life for young readers by including cartoon-like illustrations to grab their interest, and snapshots of maps to set the scene.

The “Jump in the Think Tank” sections included in this book will challenge young readers to discuss what they think and feel about the topics they are reading about. I think this is the type of book that teachers would really love and appreciate. I texted my sister (a 4th grade teacher) immediately after finishing this book to tell her all about it!

I will be excitedly recommending this book to every parent I know — for both it’s subject matter, and the way this book is written. It is an empowering story for young girls, and is equally important for young boys. At the same time, it is a great way to increase reading comprehension and encourage kids to think about that they are reading.

I really enjoyed this one! I liked how RBG’s story was adapted for young readers. A little bit of it felt like it didn’t flow with what was around it, but that only happened a couple times. I really like the graphics. The maps were fun. I think my favorite part was the timelines at the end of each chapter! That was super helpful. Overall, this book was super enjoyable!

This is a super quick, concise, fun, and extremely educational look into the iconic life of RBG. I honestly feel like this should be on all required early readers reading lists. BOYS AND GIRLS. This is the perfect glimpse into the life of her life and service to this country. The text is smart, yet easy to read and understand, and the illustrations are adorable and eye-catching!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback. I have a huge collection of children’s biographies of inspiring people in my classroom and I will DEFINITELY be adding this to my collection. I admittedly have a few RBG bios in my room already but this one was exceptional. It had a ton of inspiring information along with engaging questions throughout to encourage deeper thought and a way to have students relate to the book. The illustrations were adorable but actual photos of RBG were included at the end. ALSO, the author included a quiz at the end and as a teacher I loved that a way to assess content mastery and comprehension was included. Overall, awesome as a beginner chapter book OR as just an adult fan of our glorious and fabulous RBG. Release Date: 3/3/20

Reading is the key that opens doors to many good things in life. Reading shaped my dreams and more reading helped me make my dreams come true.

You and your child will enjoy getting to know Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She holds a seat on the supreme court. How she got there was not an easy road. She fought gender discrimination and was the forefront for women getting the same pay as men. This biography challenges the young reader to think about what was accomplished and why it was important. A Jump in the Think Tank segment will ask a question that will see why discrimination is about justice and encourage you to be in the fight for those that are oppressed as well.

A Special Thank you to Rockridge Press and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

An absolutely fascinating book about an amazing woman. I learned so much information about RBG that I’d never known. It was filled with trivia and thought provoking questions, as well as myths and facts. Perfect for the classroom!

Did you know that Ruth Bader Ginsberg's first name is actually Joan?  Did you know that she was left handed and felt the injustice of being told that she had to become a righty...but she did not. These are just a couple of the interesting things that children will learn in this excellent beginning chapter book on the Supreme Court Justice.

The illustrations, charts and more in this book are vibrant and engaging.  They add to the text and help to keep a young reader's attention and interest.

In addition to telling Ruth's story, this book includes many extras.  There are definitions of words, questions to think about, family trees, quotes from RBG and even a quiz at the end so readers can see what they recall from the text.  There is also a helpful bibliography.

If you know a girl (or boy) that wants/needs to know that women can succeed and fight for what they believe in, encourage them to take a look at this book.  It belongs  in school libraries for elementary school children.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.  Even as an adult, I enjoyed reading this story and learning more about RBG.

This beginning chapter book for young readers introduces kids to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a pioneer for American women and politicians. It follows her life while including interactive elements like maps for geographical studies, timelines to help provide context, and questions for the reader to more closely examine themselves and the world around them. There are also some cool illustrations throughout, and all of these wonderful elements help break up the blocks of text so that the reader doesn’t feel overwhelmed.

The end even provides some wrap up questions to help with reading comprehension, further questions for self reflection, and a glossary (the glossary words are in bold throughout the text to help with vocabulary).

This is so cute, and I would definitely get it for my niece. I am always trying to find fun books for her to read that also teach intersectional feminism and that help her become a more conscious human.

This one is out on March 3rd, so if the young reader in your life could use some inspiration, self reflection, and a dose of history, give it a whirl.
