Jane Hardy is a police chief in a small town and will do anything to keep her town safe. When a local resident comes to her claiming her son is missing and she believes there is foul play at large, Jane jumps on the case. When she starts investigating, she finds that her ex husband Reid is also hot on the trail. Can she put her feeling for Reid aside and let Reid help her solve this case?

Reid Bechtol, a documentarian is back in town with his teenage son Will and is trying to reconnect with Jane. He has hidden Will from Jane all these years and is trying to get her to understand why he did what he did. When he gets an email about a possible threat on an oil platform, he decides to go undercover under the guise of doing a documentary to find out what is going on. When he finds Jane is also on the case, he is excited to spend more time with her. Will he be able to get closer to Jane and gain her trust?

Jane and Reid are racing against the clock at every turn. When the killer threatens their family, they must make the decision to back off the investigation or keep digging up long buried secrets. Can they solve the crime and keep their family safe?

This was a fast action suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put the book down. I loved Colleen Coble writing style and how she draws you right into the story with the depth and dimension of the main and supporting characters. This is the second book in the series, and I did read it with as a stand a lone novel and had no trouble catching up on the backstory. I do plan though to go back and read the first novel to get the full story. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Thank you so much to the author Colleen Coble, Thomas Nelson Publishing and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

From the first page I was hooked. Colleen Coble surrounded me with mystery and I couldn’t get enough. With no way of guessing what could happen next I was taken on a crazy and twisted adventure. As Jane and Reid leave to visit Zues the huge oil rig, weird things keep happening. And not just between the two of them. Their chemistry was fun to watch, and undeniable, no matter how much Jane tried to fight it. I loved seeing the family dynamic as Jane learned what it was like being a mom. If you haven’t read the first book in this series, I think you can read this one alone. That being said, I think you will enjoy it all the more if you start their unique story from the beginning. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Suspense and Mystery. Colleen Coble is a master at mixing just the right amounts of suspense, romance, and mystery. She also often sprinkles in a little creepy and deranged for good measure. I received a copy of this book from Thomas Nelson publishers and was in no way forced to post a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Colleen Coble's Two Reasons to Run picks up the story of Jane Hardy, police chief for Pelican Harbor. She has been reunited with her son and his father and while she has a heart full of love for Will, she's not sure how she feels about Reid.

There was a lot of focus on developing Will's character. We see a young man who is basking in the love of his mom, something he had been deprived of for a long time. But he still craves a deeper relationship with other members of his family. It's this desire that will push his parents to overcome some of the fears and reservations they have about forging relationships with their family.

We continue to spend time with Jane who is still reeling to get over the betrayal of people close to her. She has trouble trusting others and letting go but we see where maybe she's a little more open to hearing about God. We see some growth in her character as she is learning how to be a mom and maintain a relationship with Reid though she is still hurt by his betrayal.

Reid remains by her side ready to assist her whenever she needs him but also as a reminder to Jane that she is not alone. I respect Reid. It took a lot of courage and strength of character to stand by Jane when it seemed as though she'd never forgive him. As in One Little Lie, we see his love for his son and his commitment to do what's best for him.

While Two Reasons to Run could be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading One Little Lie first as there will be some nuances that are not as evident without the first book (and also because it's a great read).

I received an advanced reader's copy from the publishers through Just Read Tours and NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

The second in a series where you should definitely start with book one as there are large character developments that happen from book to book. The mystery is self contained in this book, but I am so thankful that I started with book one and am reading these books in order.

Police Chief Jane Hardy is back in this small town and is still dealing with the drama that happened to her in book one. When a young man who works on an oil platform off the coast of Louisiana goes missing and a weird email from him surfaces, a larger mystery may be simmering under the surface and the police chief and maybe even the FBI need to get to the bottom of it and fast.

For me this book wasn't my favorite from this author. I like this main character and am glad to follow her from book one to book two and will be waiting on book three to arrive, but my reason for not loving this book was the mystery at the heart of it. I always hate to spoil especially with mysteries, but to say it as best as possible, I didn't love the "bad people's" reason for doing all the bad things they did. It felt far fetched and thrown together in the end. I almost wish they had other motives to do the things they did that would have felt a little more legit for all the stuff they did.

Thankfully I liked Police Chief Jane Hardy, so I wanted to finish this book to read about her and where she was going and she is the big push that I have to complete the series with book three.

I thought the first book in this series was excellent and then I read this one! It has a lot of action and danger, plus the human element continuing on from the first book. If you haven't read the first book, you can probably piece together what is happening with the characters but you'll enjoy the first book so I would encourage you to read it if you can! Some people didn't like the brusqueness (at times) of Jane, the main character, but I saw it as the result of how she grew up - living in a cult, escaping, then being raised by a single, law-enforcement father who wasn't there for her emotionally much. How else was she going to become as a woman? She didn't have any role models!!! She'd been lied to most of her life! She's a great police chief though and tries to handle the small town she lives in although some people are constantly fighting her. In this story, Jane, continues to deal with hew new-found son (the joy of her life) and his father, Reid (conflicting feelings there) and the huge threat of a possible blowing up an an oil rig in Mobile Bay. Racing against the clock, she and Reid and her officers, try to track down the culprits. When her son is threatened, the fear escalates. There is a lot of action for both Jane & Reid. Jane's father is involved too. I loved the book and can't wait to see how everything ends up in the 3rd book!

This second book in the Pelican Harbor Book was one I was looking forward to reading. I do think you have to read the first book (One Little Lie) first. The characters did grow and change a bit in this book, but I will admit that I was hoping for a bit more progress in the storyline.
What I liked ...
We continue to get to know some of the people in town.
Jane is valued and appreciated for what she does on the job by the guys in her life. Strong women characters are not always admired. But clearly Jane is honored by her fictional family.
The continuing friendship between Jane and Olivia is well-developed.
I did like the fact that there were a few story lines going on - that makes it seem more like real life.
My favorite quote regarding small towns: "The coconut telegraph at work"
The quote from Screwtape Letters was a nice addition.
Having part of a plot take place on an oil rig was interesting.
I liked that Will was able to connect with some more family, and I especially liked the fact that the character was named Gretchen. :-)

What I did not like ...
I know that many issues that I have with certain plot points will be resolved in the next book. But certain aspects, such as continued unforgiveness, bothered me. Jane kept relying on the person that she refused to forgive. That was not logical to me. I think perhaps this book was maybe a touch too long. It felt a bit more like the middle part that you sometimes want to skip over. I really enjoyed book one, and this one was a bit flat.

My final rating: 4.3 - not quite enough to bump it up to a 5 star book. That being said, I am looking forward to the third book in this series. I will definitely be reading that.

Two Reasons To Run is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series by Coble. It would be best to read One Little Lie (the first book) before reading this book, so you will understand the interweaving of the characters. This is the continuing story of Police Chief Jane (She follows her dad, who was chief before her} her ex, Reed and her 15 year old son who she thought was dead until both reentered her life. Now she and Reed are thrown together to investigate a new mystery. Keith McDonald has gone missing. No clues to his whereabouts. He just disappeared from an oil rig out in the gulf. No way this could be …… but overboard. There is lots of suspense and drama with twists and turns. I never guessed who the villain was till the end. This book has it all. I can’t wait for book three…..I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, but am happy to do so.

I di not read the first book but it still was able to connect with the character of the sheriff but felt lost with some of the other characters and part of the story with her son. The book opens with death on an oil rig in the Gulf. Then a mother coming to the sheriff with the son missing and whether it is a suicide, murder, or just a missing case. There is also a hint of a possible threat of an explosion of the rig which would cause devastating harm to wildlife and to the livelihood of the people along the gulf coast.
So as Jane is dealing with one possibility about a terrorist threat, she is also still dealing with her son being in her life from apparently the first book. She is also dealing with the boy’s father also. You have two things happening which for me once I felt like I got caught up in the story seemed to work and after the halfway point was a good book.

"I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own." This is a second book in the series. This book was fast paced and kept me guessing from beginning to end. I have read many of Colleen Coble's books and this one did not disappoint. I cant wait to read the next book in the series.

Any series with a chance of success must contain a character (s) that you can visualize so well, you would know them if you saw them on the street. They must live in a community that is familiar and populated with characters that have secrets and stories that will be revealed as the series continues. Last, but not least, the author must have the skills to develop and keep developing this series for a long while. I do believe that Jane Hardy and Pelican Bay have been alive in Colleen Coble's mind for some time. This is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. It can be read as a stand alone, but then you'd miss a great book.

Jane Hardy, or Police Chief Jane Hardy, has received many personal blows lately but must quickly set those aside to investigate a terrorist threat to blow up an oil rig and pollute the Pelican Harbor area that is her home. Her support crew in the investigation is also part of her personal problems so that thread runs through her actions everyday. The bad guys get caught....no spoiler....but the story along the way is fast and furious. There is no good place to stop reading until later, so plan on an all nighter. Then you'll have to wait with the rest of us for the next book.

First I want to say that this book is the second in a series that should be read in order. This book picks up where the last one left off and I think it would be hard to connect to the characters and understand the full story line if you don't read the first book.

I was in the mood for something fast paced and full of suspense and mystery and this book definitely delivered that. It was a good change from the other genres I've been reading as of late. Jane, Reid and Will are becoming very familiar to me. I am invested in their stories and how their family will re-shape and how it will all end for them. There are several loose ends individually and collectively for these characters that will continue into the next book.

The relationship between Jane and Reid is very slow moving and not terribly romantic so I wouldn't really label this as a romantic suspense but that isn't to say I don't like it, because I do. I thought the story was interesting and like I said, the forward momentum was great. I loved the constant danger that kept me engaged. I'll be looking forward to the next book!

Book one in this series is titled One Little Lie; it takes place in The Pelican Harbor. It’s a story that will blow you away. Readers meet Jane Hardy interim sheriff in Alabama. Her and her Dad escaped from an occult 15 years ago. Dad is a retired police chief - Her mother stayed behind in the occult. Since then Jane has diligently searched for her mother with no success.

Reid Bechtol-well known for his documentaries. Reid’s teen son is Will. Readers learn of their history with officer Jane Hardy. This second novel brings Reid and Jane together for professional reasons. Jane has a lead she is chasing down, and Reid might just have the answers she is looking for.

Story begins with Keith McDonald sitting at his computer he’s on an oil platform rec room. He’s nervous. His finger hovers over the send button. “Clenching his teeth, he sent the emails. Maybe it was nothing, but if anyone could decipher the recording, it was Reid Dixon.”

Keith McDonald has gone missing. No clues to his whereabouts. The author weaves a clever, suspenseful web of revenge and greed. Reid and Jane work closely together to find the missing link which is uncomfortable on a few levels. But both are convinced this story is bigger than a missing person. Things become deadly. Would Reid and Jane stay alive long enough to get the bad guy.

I enjoyed this novel. It has a suspenseful, story line, with a fun romantic element, themes of faith but not preachy, shows how cruelty can lead to disaster for both the victim and the perpetrator. Both come to grips with the fact that forgiveness is the only key to a peaceful, loving life.

Both Keith and Jane mistrusts themselves because of all the lies they believed growing up in the occult. There’s danger around every corner. This novel is packed with suspense drama with twists and turned I enjoyed. I never guessed who the villain was till the end. Looking forward to book three in this series titled Three Missing Days due out April 2021.

While this is book 2 in the Pelican Harbor series, you can read and enjoy it if you haven't read the first one. But, I highly recommend reading the first one as there are references to it in the second one.
I was thrilled to be able to continue the story of Police Chief Jane, Reed (her ex), and their fifteen year old son, Will, whom she had believed to be dead until recently. Can she ever forgive Reed for keeping her son from her? What about her dad and the horrific part he played in the lie? Can she find it in her heart to forgive him? Can she trust again?
Keith, who works on the oil platform, first is missing, then, found dead. In a very bad way that tells Jane is was murder. As the story unfolds, it is discovered that Keith believed there was a terrorist attack planned on the oil rig. As the investigation goes on, death threats are made against Will. This only fuels the fire inside Jane to get to the bottom of this, while taking great measures to protect her son.
I enjoyed this suspenseful story, and it kept me guessing until the end. The ending does leave the story hanging as there is Book 3 coming.

I am a big fan of Colleen Coble, and this book is my favorite of her last several books. It is the second novel in her Pelican Harbor series which takes place on the Alabama Gulf Coast. As in many of Coble's books the mystery and suspense stories are set withing a story of family tensions and paths to healing, giving her stories greater depth. The settings of Coble's novels are usually key to the story, and she is an expert at placing her readers in those settings. That is definitely the case in Two Reasons to Run. I highly recommend this book and am grateful to have received a complementary copy from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Two Reasons to Run is the second book in Colleen Coble’s Pelican Harbor series, which is set in Pelican Harbor, Alabama. Police Chief Jane Hardy Is working long hours as she brings two new replacements on board her small police force for the officers lost recently. (One Little Lie).

Jane is asked to investigate the disappearance of a young local oil rig worker. His mother received an email from him shortly before his disappearance telling her to go to the authorities if anything happened to him and warning of an imminent terrorist attack on the oil rig. As Jane does so, investigative reporter Reid Dixon is also investigating the oil rig based on emails he had received from the missing man.

As both become embroiled in these investigations, the sadistic mind behind it all sends his henchman to threaten the wellbeing of their son, Will. In a spellbinding story of greed, loss, and revenge, the reader is taken on a wild ride straddling the major investigation and the backstory of Jane and Reid that spans multiple locations until culminating in a remote seaside setting during a raging storm.

This is yet another intense thriller by Ms. Coble. Her descriptions have you right along side her main characters and will keep you rapidly turning the pages late into the night. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!

I found out after I started this book that it was the second in a series. I think I would have benefited from reading the first one before I started this one. I love the plot and the characters, just sometime felt a little lost without the first novel. I would definitely recommend this book for the environmental twist and the reminders of how far lies from the past change the future.

Two Reasons to Run is the second book in Ms. Coble's Pelican Harbor series and this is one of them that I should have read the first book before jumping into this one. I feel so, so lost and there is so much background that I'm missing that it is hard for me to continue with this story. The writing is good but I am going to have to go read the first book to really give this one more of a chance.

I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

TWO REASONS TO RUN (The Pelican Harbor Series Book 2) is even more fast paced and filled with much more heart racing excitement than Book 1! Author Colleen Coble definitely ups the ante on grabbing on grabbing her readers attention early and keeping it until the final sentence is read. Book 2 starts exactly where Book 1 ends. Chief Jane Hardy is still coming to grips with an elaborate scheme to frame her father, the former Sheriff of Pelican Harbor. That was only the beginning of the mysteries that were unraveled in Book 1. She is now reunited with her presumed dead15 year old son Will and his father, famous documentarian Reid Bechtol. I particularly enjoy this series because the fictional setting is based on an area that I am very familiar with. As a reader, I always draw mental pictures of places and characters in my mind as I read. This time I do not have to as I know EXACTLY what the setting looks like! Also, when the setting in a small town, it seems as if the town seems to become a character in its on right. This setting is on the Mobile Bay and the mystery involves a murder on the oil platform Zeus. As the investigation begins, things quickly begin to not add up. One of Pelican Harbors native sons is the victim and he managed to leave some clues to a serious environmental threat that is looming. Only now he is missing, presumed dead, no body found yet but the time is ticking according to the information he managed to sneak out. From this point on, Coble takes readers on an edge of your seat adventure that involves such things as: being ordered to stand down by Homeland Security even when disagreeing with their assessment, deep diving under an oil rig, being challenged by everyone, everywhere that there is no threat but continuing investigating anyway, realizing your son is in danger and having to put him under protection. Jane has a plethora of reasons to run. But what if she stays? The ending is one of the greatest of all times! You will be spent as you read the final page! This is one of my favorite series! I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Thomas Nelson and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It grabbed my attention from the first page and kept me entertained till the last page. Quite a few plot twists and turns add in a fast moving plot and it was recipe for an enjoyable afternoon. I probably would have been better to read the first book in the series but I was still able to follow along with the back story and did feel left behind. It did end on a bit of a cliff hanger but this reader will be picking up the first and third book in the series.
