The first book in Colleen Coble's Pelican Harbor series hadn't been my favorite of hers, but I was really looking forward to continuing on with the rest of the story to find out more about Jane, Reid, Will and their tumultuous story. I will say that I'm a big fan of the way Colleen has chosen to write this series as a continuing story as it definitely keeps the reader wanting to come back for more. However, I don't personally recommend reading these out of order as I don't think the story would make as much sense if you'd missed all of the background info that was provided in the first title.

Many explosive secrets had been revealed in Jane and Reid's life at the end of the first book, and I knew that the second book was also going to be a wild ride. An environmental terrorism plot is brought to light, and it's tied up around a dastardly murder with many sinister players. Jane Hardy may just have found her most dangerous case yet; especially when the case turns personal when her teenage son is threatened and caught in the crossfire. Jane may not be on the best current terms with Will's father Reid, but it will take them both working together to discover who's behind the threats and see them brought to justice.

With a mystery that keeps readers guessing around every twist and turn, an emphasis on forgiveness, faith and redemption, and non stop action and suspense around every corner, Two Reasons to Run is another fantastically written novel by one of the genre's best, and I personally can't wait to read the third book to see how all the pieces of Jane and Reid's story are finally going to come together.

Definitely go ahead and pick this one up if you're a fan of Christian suspense novels.

Colleen Coble holds the well deserved title of Queen of Christian Romantice Suspense for good reason. This second installment in the Pelican Harbor series continues the story of police chief Jane Hardy and her extended family and friends. She's still recovering from the events of in Pelican Harbor Book #1, grappling with her anger towards her dad and Reid Bechtol, love for her new found teenaged son, Will and questioning the whole idea of faith and a higher power. When a friend asks her to look for her son, lost from an oil rig she steps up to the challenge. She doesn't expect it to lead to threats towards her family and friends. This novel moves at a speedy clip both in building the character relationships and moving those forward as well as the plot line. While there is violence in the book, it's not overt and grisly. Nor does the author's Christian point of view preach to the reader. It circles quietly in the background and lives inside each character. I look forward to reading every book written by this author and highly recommend them.

Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. Set outside of Mobile, Alabama in the small town of Pelican Harbor, a worker mysteriously disappears from the oil rig, Zeus, and his mother goes to Sheriff Jane Gray to help locate her son. The investigation uncovers a terrorist plot to destroy the oil rig, Zeus, which would create an environmental disaster that would devastate the Alabama coast. The perpetrators of this terrorist plot targetted Jane's recently found teenage son, and the boy's father investigative journalist, Reid, joins in to protect the people he loves. Coble has authored another installment that picks up with Jane and Reid's story and leaves the reader eagerly awaiting the third book.

A new author for me and I'll be sure to read more of her works!

Jane and Reid are reunited after 15 years along with their son Will, who escaped a commune with his dad. Jane has to work through her feelings of abandonment as she was told her son has died. Now she'll do everything in her power to keep her son safe as this romantic suspense barrels along.

A great story. Reading book 1 in the series would have provided valuable background information, but it can be read as a standalone.

Jane Hardy is the Police Chief of Pelican Harbor, a position she acquired when her father retired. She just recently located her son Will (story in Pelican Harbor #1) and his birth father Reid Bechtol, who does documentaries. They are all trying to form bonds that were interrupted when Will was born and Jane’s father told her the baby had died and gave Will to his teenaged father.

Now there is something going on at the oil platform in the harbor again. Someone has died and it looks like murder. As they investigate the murder, it becomes dangerous for all of them as people try to cover up the crime.

This is a great suspense / law enforcement tale and I have enjoyed both books in the series so far. I hope there’s another one on the way.

This is another great story in The Pelican Harbor Series, the second of the series. Set in Pelican Harbor, on the lovely gulf coastal area near Mobile, Alabama, this has a small town flavor with a small police department where Jane Hardy is the chief. In the first book, she is reunited with her son Will and his father Reid after thinking that her baby had died fifteen years ago when she and Reid were teenagers and their parents were in a cult in Michigan.
Things amp up when the high school principal's son sent her an email from the oil platform where he works telling her to get in touch with Chief Hardy if anything happens to him. Now he is missing. He also alerted the Feds about a possible terrorist attack on the oil rig but they don't find any evidence to indicate a threat so it's all up to Jane to find answers. Reid was also sent an email from the young man. Reid does documentaries so he decides to go out to the platform with his videographer to do a documentary to see what he can find out. When Jane and Reid unite to find answers, Will's life is threatened and those who worked on the oil rig seemed afraid to talk.
Action packed and suspenseful to the end, Two Reasons to Run is a page turner with realistic and likable characters and edgy plot. I did not guess who was behind the threats so this was a surprise ending to me. I am looking forward to the finale in the third book. Three Missing Days.

In the first book in this series, One Little Lie, Jane Hardy, Pelican Harbor's police chief, learned the truth behind a secret held for fifteen years. This rocked her to her very core. However, this also brightened her future beyond belief. She had already been in a precarious situation after taking over the job as police chief after her father retired, and then had to be investigated for serious crimes.

However, something, or someone, brought light into Jane's world. She was reunited with her son, Will, whom she long thought dead. His father, documentarian Reid Bechtol is someone Jane needs a lot of time to deal with, in order to accept decisions Reid made involving Will.

Meanwhile, there is a terrorist plot in action, and the situation forces Jane and Reid to work together yet again, thus forcing the difficult feelings about their situations below the surface. When the killer hones in on Will, then Jane and Reid must work fast and hard in order to protect their son.

The first book in this series left things hanging between Jane, Reid and Will. For that reason I do not think this book, Two Reasons to Run would work as a standalone. There is too much history that is explained in the first book, and then added to in this second book. Also, the first book clearly explains Jane's reticence when it comes to Reid, another factor that might not have as much impact if the other book is not read first. What is more is that this book leaves readers wanting for much more, and that won't happen until at least April 2021, with the upcoming third book in the series, Three Missing Days.

While I had this book as an electronic ARC, I also received an audiobook for review, so that is what this review is based on. The narrator was Devon O'Day, and since I listened to the first book as well, this gave me two opportunities to hear Ms. O'Day perform the stories. She did an exceptional job with the voices, emotions and how she was able to convey the depth of the book. Her narration was impeccable making the book that much more compelling.

While this could be read as a stand alone, you will get a better understanding into the dynamics of the characters if you read the first novel, One Little Lie.
This is a gripping suspense novel about a possible terrorist threat to an oil platform located in Pelican Harbour, Alabama. Police chief, Jane Hardy has to solve this mystery and try to protect her newly found family. Even though this is billed as a Christian romantic suspense, the religious aspect is quite low key. Interesting characters, suspenseful plot and action, chaste but credible romance. Looking forward to part 3.

Two Reasons To Run is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. I didn't read the first book but it's fine I guess. But I felt like I missed some things. If you wanted to know more about what happened to Jane and Reid in the past then you should read the first book. Btw this book are told from multiple POVs but it's easy to know who narrate the part.
I like Jane but at the same time I don't. I mean she keep blaming her dad and Reid for lying to her about her son, Will. Damn annoying! I love how they stick together as a family to protect Will despite what happened to them in the past.

We have a new mystery in this book that's very good. There is also the continuing story of Police Chief Jane, her ex, Reed and her 15 year old son who she thought was dead until recently. We learn new things with their story and realise there are more secrets and lies.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to book 3 to read the explosive conclusion.

This isn't an edge of your set suspense book. But it is still a good mystery. This is the second book in the series. I would recommend you read the first book One Little Lie before reading this one.

It's been too long since I read a book like this and I missed it!

One of my favorite things about this series is the depth of the characters. I'm loving spending so much time with Jane, Reid, and Will and really getting to know them. Coble is developing them well and that's something of a hallmark of her books - these really deep, developed characters.

I'm always amused when authors release books that are similar around the same time. In this case, Dani Pettrey just released a book that dealt with an oil rig and now Colleen Coble did. I have to wonder if they talk about it and one sparks the other's idea.

The Pelican Harbor series is a long story over the three books but each has a mini crime that Jane has to solve. I like the separation between the two. We get to discover more about Jane and Reid's history, get to really know them, but have the current action of crimes that Jane needs to solve. It's also unique to have the girl be the one that is more skilled in protection. I can understand Reid's struggles because guys instinctively protect.

This was a great story, with mystery and suspense. It kept me glued to the screen (Kindle) and kept me guessing the whole time. Even at the end, I was unable to put the pieces together, so I was as surprised as the characters.

When it comes to favorite, must read authors, Colleen Coble is without a doubt at the very top of my list. I always know that when I sit down with one of her suspense novels, I am in for an absolute treat. Two Reasons to Run was no exception. This is the second book in the Pelican Harbor series. While I think you probably could read this book as a standalone, I would definitely recommend reading the first book first. There is a lot of backstory given about Jane and Reid's history that I feel would definitely help readers to feel more invested in their story.

And oh what a story it is! This book picks up right after the first book ends, but the primary mystery is a story on it's own. When an apparent murder occurs on the oil platform, Jane learns that he had sent a warning before his death about a possible upcoming terror attack. As Jane starts to investigate, things take a more personal turn with threats on her family. From start to finish, I could not put this book down! The action was nonstop, and the mystery kept me on my toes right through to the very end. I absolutely loved it.

More than that though, I loved seeing more from these fantastic characters. Their romance is rather unique and complicated, to say the least... but I love their chemistry and enjoyed seeing the family dynamic begin to form. With more questions still unanswered, I cannot wait to see what comes next! If you enjoy romantic suspense, this is one book and series you do NOT want to miss!

Two Reasons to Run by Colleen Coble brings readers back to Pelican Harbor. Note: It helps to read One Little Lie first, as Two Reasons to Run picks up a few weeks later. Jane and Reed’s relationship is on shaky ground, while Jane tries to get to know her son. But naturally Jane finds herself smack in the middle of another mystery.

While the story brings drama and intrigue, much of the plot centers around the characters trying to figure out their ever-changing circumstances. Jane now becomes a mother after fifteen years. Reed deals with his son, his feelings for Jane, discovering his long lost relatives, and his ex-wife. Jane is a great character – her credits include being police chief and having escaped a cult. She’s strong, yet comes to grips with her need to let others into her life – especially Reed. She struggles to forgive both her father and Reed for past lies.

The plot is complex and I like that it follows the same characters as the prior novel – but don’t think things will be wrapped up when you read this story. It definitely leads into the next novel in the series.

As far as suspense, the small-town-murder-mystery vibe continues from One Little Lie. Jane investigates in the midst of death threats and multiple murder. Things get intense when Jane’s son becomes a target. Not too many plot twists, but the story is fast paced with enough intrigue to keep suspense fans happy.

You can’t go wrong with a Colleen Coble novel. She always brings readers great characters and edgy, intense story lines. Definitely check out this series.

I am such a fan of audiobooks, so I was excited to receive my first review copy for an audio version! I thought the narrator (Devon O’Day) was fantastic and kept up the suspense level throughout the story. I find fast-paced novels work best on audio, and the pacing and story line mixed well together. There is only one narrator, which I prefer over a variety for each character. This is very enjoyable and entertaining novel as an audiobook.

I am really enjoying this series. Jane is such a great character. Her background is so incredible and as she continues to discover that everything she thought she knew was a lie, she is becoming even more likable. Now with Will and Reid in her life I'm enjoying their transition in to a modern type family. I'm excited to see how this series ends!

The long-awaited continuation of Chief Jane Hardy that was well worth the wait. I love how the book begins with mystery and suspense and jumps right in where things left off. Jane is trying to build her new life that includes her son Will and finding her new place as a mom of a teenage boy. Will and Reid are a package deal, so she must also work through her hurt, lost trust and growing attraction to Reid. I love that despite the terror that looms, they all stick together as a family and handle the crisis together. It is a beautiful picture of stress drawing people closer together rather than pushing them away. Of course, there is plentiful mystery, suspense and thrills along the way; one could expect no less from Colleen Coble. The excitement picks up immediately and stays strong all the way through. I highly recommend this continuation of the Pelican Harbor series.

I couldn't wait to read this second book and Colleen Coble did not disappoint! With high octane suspense and characters worth meeting, this book was over well before I was ready to be done. In the last book, Jane discovered her son was alive and she could start building a relationship with him. Of course, that means putting up with his father Reid but she can be polite if it means time with her son. Lies have torn apart everything Jane thought she knew, and there are more surprises to come for her. But for now things have calmed down and Jane can get her new officers in place and then take some time off to get to know her son Will better. Of course, the best laid plans rarely happen, and this is no different. A worker on the oil platform Zeus has gone missing amidst concerning allegations of possible terrorism. When his body is discovered, the time off must wait. Reid was contacted by the murdered man just a few weeks earlier, requesting his help to uncover a hidden plot to destroy the oil platform. Using his job as a documentarian, Reid accesses the platform and starts filming, hoping to uncover the plot and the people involved. Destroying the oil platform will destroy the bay and the ecosystems it suports. The consequences will be devastating and long lasting. Suddenly, Will's life is being threatened and the pressure to solve this case quickly is increased. Bodies are starting to pile up and the danger mounts with each attempt on Will's life. Jane has to find the man behind the plot and stop it.
The relationship between Reid and Jane is further developed in this book and makes them even more relatable. They have to learn how to trust and step out in faith to learn how much they matter and are loved. They each also have to learn how to work through how their individual lives need to adjust to this new family they are forming. All of this while trying to stay one step ahead of men with murder in their hearts and revenge the final goal at any expense. Colleen Coble delivers a suspense that will have the reader guessing what will happen until the last page. Danger lurks around every corner and tough decisions will have to made before the end comes. If you want a book that delivers on action, suspense, and characters worth cheering for then don't miss this adrenaline inducing read! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Colleen Coble is the queen of romantic suspense, writing in this genre before it even had a name. Her stories draw you in and you join the chase to make sure the bad guys are caught. .
Picking up the story from One Little Lie. Jane is still trying to find her footing with her son and past love, when an environmental terrorist plot is revealed. She has to race against not only the clock to stop the plot, she must also save her son from being a target.
A recommended read for any fan of the romantic suspense genre, but of course readers of Coble's books.
