"Dead Air" by Michael Bradley falls flat in its attempt to deliver a gripping thriller, lacking the suspense and depth needed to keep readers invested. The plot, centered around a radio talk show host entangled in a murder investigation, lacks originality and struggles to maintain a consistent pace. The characters are one-dimensional, making it challenging for readers to connect or feel invested in their fates. Bradley's writing style, while straightforward, fails to infuse the narrative with the necessary tension and intrigue. Overall, "Dead Air" feels like a missed opportunity for a compelling mystery, leaving readers with a forgettable and lackluster reading experience.

I’ve had this one on my shelf for quite awhile. Not a bad story but forgettable. Would give the author another try though.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportutnity to preview Dead Air by Michael Bradley. A DJ with a secret that she holds close to herself, She is a top rated radio personality and she has finally found a home. That's until she starts to receive messages that are long buried and knows that her secret is no longer safe...an neither is she.
Good book. I am looking for something to keep me engaged, scared and hungry for more. Although solid, I did find that this novel didn't hold something "different" for me.

Dead Air so much promise and yet fell flat at every turn of the page. I was actually very excited to read this one. A secret, revenge promised and action aplenty. However, the reality was very much different. The writing was ok, but I found it places it tripped itself up. The story struggled to keep my attention but also seemed to have the power to get me extremely angry. There was a plot development at around 40% that nearly made me give up, it’s not what I thought should happen to the character or where the natural progression of the narrative should have been.

Dead Air follows our protagonist, Kaitlyn who is a late-night DJ host, presenting a love song dedication show. She’s finally at a point in her life where she feels that she can put down some roots, after spending her professional career going from city to city and job to job. She’s chosen her home on the outskirts of Philadelphia. She’s got a boyfriend that she wants to settle with and her career is going from strength to strength. The only thing holding her back is a secret that stays at the back of her mind, but something will allow that box to be unlocked…

Dead Air had a premise that unfortunately has been done to death and it lacked any depth of originality. If there was something that made it stand out it would have done far better, in my opinion anyway. The actions of some of the characters were so unbelievable that turning every page after that was entirely a struggle. This doesn’t happen often to me, but I did consider DNF’ing this book, but I wanted to give it a chance.

I also wanted to point out that the overall narration didn’t work out for me, at all. The author seemed to struggle to write female characters with any iota of class or dignity. It felt like it was edging up on the creep metre. I know where the author was trying to take the story, but the lack of reliable characterisation and actions instantly turned me off. The biggest pitfall of them all was the unbelievably obvious clues left to who the culprit was. It just passed off the protagonist, Kaitlyn as unbelievably stupid. Not a great look for this story.

I’d like to thank Netgalley and Camcat Books for the opportunity to review Dead Air and provide an honest review.

Dead Air was a book that I was looking forward to reading, it contained everything I like in crime fiction. A character who has rebuilt their own life but then faces a threatening reminder from the past, paranoia and a investigating officer who has regrets over his personal life. And I like Reo Speedwagon. Which won’t mean much unless you read this book.

There are three main characters in the novel, Kaitlyn, her stalker whose identity I worked out fairly early on and Rodney, the police officer who gets too involved because of Kaitlyn’s similarity to his daughter.

Despite knowing who was responsible I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Especially the malice displayed by the stalker. It was unnerving to see what they were capable of, and their justification for it.

Whilst enjoying reading about Kaitlyn, what she was hiding from and her career I preferred to read about Rodney. I liked his various quotes, his bafflement and frustration about the case and his regret over his damaged relationship with his daughter.

I enjoyed this novel and would definitely read more by this author.

Kaitlin Ashe is one of the top radio DJs in Philadelphia, and she’s finally found the man of her dreams. But her past won’t leave her alone, and The Shallows will haunt her. Her stalker will make sure of it.

I loved the concept for this book. The radio DJ angle, a haunting past, and a stalker leaving magazine cut out letters, all things that make a good thriller for me. These aspects kept me going. I also enjoyed the multiple POVs, Kaitlin, the detective, and the stalker. These chapters broke up the story and provided some character development.

I just wanted more from this one. There was a whole serial killer thing going on, a Philadelphia strangler, and I just wish more was done with it. Also, I did not like the way mental illness was used in this book. It felt like an undiagnosed issue was used as a scapegoat. Not my fav.

Read this one if you love a stalker story! The insights into the stalkers mind were so creepy. I want more stories with the antagonist POV! So much fun.

Thank you to Netgalley and Camcat books for my copy.

*My feedback includes the audiobook feedback*

The story was great. I was hooked fairly early on and it made my car trips so much more enjoyable. The narrator was great! I will be looking for the same narrator for other books for sure. Great infliction, emotion, and more to keep you from losing focus on the story.

While there weren't as many unsurprising twists as expected it was still a very enjoyable book.

Kaitlyn is a radio show host with an interesting past. Her real name is Laura and in her prior life she was sexually assaulted by her boyfriend and during the altercation he fell into the water and drowned. Fast forward to today and someone has been stalking her and killing people close to her. She has no clue who it is but it scared out of her mind. The police are called and an officer named Rodney with an interesting past as well is called upon to investigate the stalking case. Rodney develops a soft spot for Kaitlyn and will do anything to protect her.
.
I enjoyed this story and thought it was overall entertaining. I would have liked the story to go more into Kaitlyn’s past earlier in the story but in the end things wrapped up nicely. I am also not sure I like the way the GBT story line played out as it wasn’t fully developed in my opinion.

Kaitlyn has a dark childhood secret her whole life and suddenly she is getting cryptic letters sent to her job and finally her home, somebody knows the truth.

When I read the synopsis I found it very interesting so I requested the book but it kinda confuse me to be honest. I couldnt relate to the main character because I couldn't understand her motive or why she actually didn't share her secret with somebody for so much time or especially with her fiance. And I also find it a little bit annoying that the investigation was wrapped so easily.
I can't say that I didn't like this book but I didn't go crazy for it either, it was okay for me.

I want to thank the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts and opinions expressed are mine alone!

Dead Air stars Kaitlyn, a night DJ in Philadelphia. She is happy with her life, but she has a dark secret in her past.
She has never told anyone including her therapist and has tried to overcome a lot of trauma from the event. All of a sudden she starts receiving cryptic letters at her job, and eventually at her home. Somebody knows her dark secret and is looking for revenge.

This novel was a page turner! I enjoyed Kaitlyn's voice and reading about being a night radio DJ. This thriller should please fans of the genre.

I was excited to read an advanced copy of this book because it is about a radio DJ, and I have never read a thriller featuring a DJ as a main character. The main character, Kaitlyn, has secrets to hide from her past that she is attempting to move beyond, however the past seems to be catching up with her by way of Anonymous letters. Off the bat i was interested in this one, because shady pasts coming back to haunt people is always a good basis for a suspense read!

Overall I really enjoyed this book, I thought that alternating points of view kept things moving well, and I was quite interested to see where the story would go. There was an element of predictability about the story, but I thought the story was overall quite engaging.

There were some aspects of the story that confounded me a little (police procedure), but not to the point that I wouldn't recommend this read, and definitely not to a point that I didn't enjoy the book.

I would describe this book as a page-turner, and a good read for anyone who likes a thriller with multiple perspectives and layers to the story. I also think that the aspect of the main character being a DJ was a different thing for me in recent books I've read, and I really enjoyed that element as a change of pace.

A good read, perfect for someone who is looking for a fast-paced thriller to read under the sun with a delicious beverage or snack on hand!

Thank you to Netgalley and CamCat publishing for the opportunity to read this fun roller coaster ride!

I had the pleasure of receiving this title early, thank you to CamCat Books (http://camcatbooks.com/) for this opportunity!

I really liked this story. A lot of questions, teases, suspense and action that grabs your attention in the first chapter. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author.

There is a lot going on in this story, two separate cases that have interwoven connections. At times it seemed as though one of the cases was just a background piece to throw the reader off the main story, but this only helped to enhance the suspense and create more tension between the characters and drive the plot forward.

There were a few items of note in the story that had me scratching my head (i.e. police procedure; collecting evidence and Kaitlyn's backstory). These moments weren't distracting, but did have me wondering if things had been done differently the case could have been solved much quicker. A few loose ends that had serious red flags kind of feel, maybe that's just me.

I did like Kaitlyn as a Radio DJ; however, I do feel REO Speedwagon has gotten a bad rap. I mean how can you not want to play/hear an REO Speedwagon song during dedication night... they're classic. There is a common theme as well, one of guilt and regret regarding choices made in the past. Something a lot of people may be able to identify with. #DeadAir #NetGalley

The first half of the novel sucked me right in and I couldn't put it down. Once I got to the half way point I kinda figured everything out and I thought some weird things happened that kind of ruined it for me. I don't understand why Kaitlyn needed to hide what happened in the Shallows, it made me not care about her and get annoyed of her real quick. Overall this was a solid and quick read. Thank you netgalley and to the publisher for an arc!

Kaitlyn has a dark secret from High School and someone has been sending her letters with increasing frequency, who 'knows' what happened. Her stalker becomes more threatening as the anniversary comes closer. It was very fast-paced and the characters are intriguing.

At the same time, the police are investigating a serial killer. It keeps you guessing as to how they are related to what's happening with Kaitlyn.

I found the story very suspenseful and didn't want to put it down. The only thing I found was that the other investigation was wrapped up too easily.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC. I will definitely read more books by Michael Bradley.

Kaitlyn has been a DJ in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the last few years and she is happier than she's ever been in the past decade since that one fateful night that killed a.part of her and it is a dark secret of her past that she has never told to anyone not even her therapist who helped her get through those early years of heartache and trauma. Suddenly she is getting cryptic letters sent to her job and finally her home. Who knows her dark secrets from years ago, the only person who was there has been dead for more than ten years or was there another witness? But why now? Who is stalking and terrorizing this nighttime DJ and what do they know and want from Kaitlyn?

This was a very interesting and captivating mystery, thriller. The problem for me was I read this before it went to editing and it took a long time to read due to pre-republishing errors. Aside from those issues it was a terrific story and fun to learn about Philadelphia, Pa. and the ins' and outs of a nighttime disc jockey.

I want to thank the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book and any thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I have given this story a rating of 3 Mysterious 🌟🌟🌟 Stars!!

What originally drew me to this novel was the blurb: three can keep a secret if two are dead. What a line.

This was definitely the high octane, spine tingling thriller that I was hoping for. The plot was propulsive and there were so many twists and turns along the way. This was my first book by this author but it most definitely won't be my last!
