A fast paced suspense novel and the first novel in the K-9 Unit in Brooklyn series. I enjoyed it even though I figured out the who done it before the end of the book.

I loved this book! Such a well written mystery, and reminds me of why I love the LoveInspired:SUSPENCE line of books!

Intense from the very first double-murder scene the arresting whodunit storyline kept me captivated.
With two separate crimes under investigation Detective Nate Slater has a lot on his plate, but Willow Emery and her niece Lucy grip his attention, turn his protective side up a notch or two, and soon feelings start to develop that he has no room for in his life.
While Nate struggles with his past, with his fate in God, and to keep Willow and Lucy unharmed, severe attacks towards Willow take a deadly turn.
I enjoyed the heartwarming romance, even though it was unfolding fast. I'm always curious about how the authors deal with the fate aspect in the Love Inspired Suspense and with Willow, it felt like a natural part of her life.
I wish that some aspects of the story would have had deeper details, but this start of a new series woke my interest and I will definitely be on a lookout for future installments.

The True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn Book 1

A Fun Surprise!
A mystery that includes dogs is practically an auto purchase for me these days. I’m always on the lookout for a good story that puts our animal families in the forefront. Both their training and their personalities add so much to a serious story, often lighting it up a bit.

Copycat Killer is a terrific example. A little mystery, a little romance, combined into an entertaining mystery.
Willow Emery arrives at her brother’s house to see her niece, Lucy, only to find her on the floor beside her murdered parents. Detective Nate Slater arrives on the scene to investigate, along with Murphy, his k-9 partner, to discover striking similarities to a case close to home twenty years before. Too similar. The survivors of the earlier killing are now both on the same k-9 team.
Memories of the past case, and the dramatic clues in the current one, drives the hunt for the killer. Is it really a copy cat? And it the same person who seems to be after Willow?
Immediately drawn to both Willow and young Lucy, the detective knows he must find answers fast before they become the next victims.
Considering it includes a serial killer, the story has a cozy feel to it. Likable and appealing characters that speak of their faith in God form the base. Yet the story is a dramatic mystery. One part does remain unsolved, but it doesn’t leave you hanging. It just shows there is more to come. I’ll be looking forward to reading the next in the series. That will be Chasing Secrets.

I absolutely love reading any dog romance theme book. They are such a joy to read that I won’t stop reading until the end.Detective Nate Slater is on the case when a child is the only witness to a crime that’s a bit too familiar. He is right on the case but he will also get close with the child Aunt. It may be risky but love is always worth it.I won’t spoil anything but you will definitely be on the edge while you read Copycat Killer. Better pay attention cause it will be crazy soon enough.

This is the first book in a new Love Inspired series, “True Blood Canine Unit: Brooklyn”. I like the concept of this series and the first book set a high standard for the ones to follow. The suspense in this book begins in the third paragraph, as Willow Emery realizes that something is wrong in her brother’s house and she hears her young niece, Lucy, crying in the house. At that point, the story takes a turn and the suspense builds all throughout the story. I also liked the fact that we get to see Detective Nate Slater’s canine partner, Murphy, launch into action in several scenes in the book. This is a faith-based story that is not only suspenseful, but also leads the reader to be grateful for the ways that God is working in our lives in ways we might not always be aware of at the time.

There is a mystery that’s on-going at end of the book, and I’ll be reading each book in the series to follow that storyline.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Copycat Killer by Laura Scott is an intriguing murder investigation. One past unsolved murder case is now linked to a current one. Both have the same MO. A clown leaving behind a bagged stuffed monkey. Two parents were killed and their young daughter was left behind safe. The aunt found her and called in the police. From there, chaos entered their lives. The police officer, Nate, and his K-9 companion were amazing. They are the type of heroes I love reading about. Nate had a dark time in his childhood and is wanting to do everything to solve the clown murder cases. The aunt was a strong woman doing what she could for herself and her niece. There was this building attraction between her and Nate. Nicely done. It didn't take away from the suspense of the story. Dark, captivating, and fun. This was a well-written book.

4 1/2 STARS!

Intrigue from start to finish! With the first book in the new True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn series, Laura Scott kicks it off with a bang in COPYCAT KILLER. We are quickly drawn into the heart of the story line carrying forward through the series and then integrated into a smaller bit of danger that reaches a conclusion in this book. The ending was a bit rushed, but overall a spot on read with lots of action, mystery and emotions.

Willow walks into the middle of a crime scene and her life is changed forever. She'll do anything to protect her niece, and having Nate by her side makes the weight of the world easier.

Nate and his canine partner Murphy are mainstays of the book. Strong, dignified and comforting.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys faith based intrigue. The story is set that will continue forward in the series, and the side kick of danger in this particular novel was satisfying. I'm looking forward to more!

Copycat Killer is a little less grit than I usually read, but it is nice to step out of the box I tend to put myself in. This one is a combination of suspense, procedural, and romance with a healthy dose of faith added in, which has become rarer and rarer in this type of story. The romance is a little more rushed than I care for. It's not quite insta love but it's close. Nevertheless, the story is entertaining, the characters are interesting, and romance is sweet. This is the beginning of a series, so I'll be interested to see where things go from here. In the meantime, if you're looking for a clean romance, this one should fill the bill.

Detective Nate Slater is investigating a double homicide. The deeper he gets in his investigation, the more he realizes that it is very similar to a cold case of over two decades. Nate must tread very carefully as his only witness is a little girl named Lucy. Although wanting to further traumatize the child, Nate tries to ask delicate questions to learn more, as the couple murdered were her parents.

When Noah get to the scene, he sees Lucy in the arms of her aunt Willow Emery. When the danger continues to touch the lives of Willow and Lucy, Nate and his partner, K-9 officer Murphy, stay close their their sides. Lucy not only responds to Nate, but she especially connects with Murphy. Meanwhile, Willow is immediately working hard to ensure Lucy's happiness and future.

Lucy is not the only one responding in this situation. Noah finds that he is very drawn to Willow and the feeling is more than mutual. Keeping their distance seems the wise thing to due especially since danger is dogging their every step.

What a touching story. Despite the fact that the man killed was Willow's brother, she never lost sight of her faith. I loved that aspect to this story. I also loved Lucy and her connection to the dog Murphy. That was very endearing. Copycat Killer is an excellent start to a new series and I cannot wait to read future books. There are quite a few people in the K-9 unit and I look forward to reading their stories

Many thanks to Love Inspired Suspense and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Netgalley, and Love Inspired Suspense for this free copy. All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication.

I swear Harlequin got me with this because of the dogs. Do you know how much dogs mean to me and seeing them as a key character or component in some form of literature always makes my heart swell? As long as the dog doesn’t die, then I’m good. And no, that wasn’t a spoiler because I’m not talking about that at all. But just saying.

This was an interesting plot for me because not only do we have the romance aspect but we have the issue of the serial killer – or at least a copycat killer from over twenty years ago – and our main characters Nate and Willow trying to make sure that things don’t go wrong. Nate is the police detective with his K-9 partner that is in charge of helping to protect his key eye witness: a little girl named Lucy. Because Lucy is the only eye witness to the double homicide and has no other person to take care of her besides her aunt Willow, Nate and Willow are needing to work together to solve this case before the killer targets Lucy to finish the job, or worse.

I think having a K-9 partner helps to show that Nate does have some sort of a sensitive side especially with his past. There’s something about an animal – whether it’s a dog, cat, turtle, etc. – that helps us humans dig deeper into our feelings and what makes us the kind of people we are. Even if we feel like everything is okay with us mentally or emotionally or whatever, animals really help us learn that there are things that we can do to improve constantly. I think it was super cute to see a little bit of this partnership in the novel, even though the plot was heavy and dealt with a traumatized child and her aunt trying to survive.

3.5 stars Copycat Killer is the first book in the True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn series. It was a quick and enjoyable romantic suspense. I flew through it in one sitting. I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of the book. There are two mysteries in the book. One is resolved and the other is left on a cliffhanger, but I have a feeling it will be a storyline that the span a few books in the series. The one mystery that was resolved was very engaging and surrsing.

For the most part, I did enjoy the romance part of the book. It was sweet, clean romance. I was a bit hesitant to buy into the speed of the HEA at the end, however, The story takes place over only a couple of days, so it was a bit fast for me. Still, I did enjoy them together. The rest of the K-9 team is introduced briefly in this book. I'm assuming they will be featured in later books. I do recommend this one.

Copycat Killer by Laura Scott has Willow Emery finding her brother and sister-in-law dead with their toddler, Lucy crying nearby. The killings are identical to a crime that occurred twenty years prior. Detective Nate Slater and his K-9 partner, Murphy take the traumatized pair home to find Willow’s apartment ransacked. Are the crimes tied together? Slater works to keep Willow and Lucy safe while searching for the elusive criminal. As Slater spends time with Willow, he begins to fall for her. Slater knows, though, that marriage and family are not in his future. Can Willow change his mind? Copycat Killer is the first book in True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn series. We are introduced to the staff of the newly formed Brooklyn K-9 Unit. Detective Nate Slater is nearby when Willow calls 9-1-1. He is surprised at the similarities to a 20-year-old cold case where the killer left 4-year-old Penelope McGregor as the only witness. Her older brother, Bradley was at a sleepover. Bradley is now a K-9 officer with their unit and Penelope is the desk clerk. I thought Copycat Killer was a suspenseful story. There is action that kept the book moving forward at a fast pace. I liked the camaraderie between the members of the K-9 unit and how sweet they were to Lucy. I, of course, loved following the investigation as they searched for the guilty party. The romance is sweet and natural. I was amazed at the talents of the K-9 dogs. They have amazing sniffers. I was disappointed that the murder investigation is not wrapped up in Copycat Killer. I hope we get the answers in the next True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn novel. I especially enjoyed Willow’s strong faith and how she shared it with Lucy and Nate. Copycat Killer is an intriguing suspense with clever canines, a crazed killer, a cute kid, an affectionate aunt and determined detectives.

I love K-9 mysteries/suspense and Copycat Killer didn't disappoint! While Willow is trying to make sure her young niece is safe, she stumbles onto a double murder and finds herself being stalked!

The K-9 series is enjoyable and I like the fact that different authors write about the same group of officers throughout the series. It's fun to be introduced to upcoming characters or find out what old favorites are doing. This was Nick and Willow's story and it was interesting to see how they overcame each of their pasts to work together to solve the mysteries. Willow is independent and has her faith while Nick finds his way. The action kept me reading and the lovable K-9's were so much fun. The book can be read as a standalone but it's enjoyable to follow the squad's adventures!

I'm on to the next book in the series!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the opinions s expressed are my own.

Who is Willow Emery? Where do we find her going and what is she feeling? Who and/or what is Nick Slater? What series of odd events does Willow go through? Who are Lucy, Penny & Bradley McGregor? What happens as Nate and Willow talk about her job and some pictures she took? Who is Craggy Face? Who is Oscar Banjo? What do we learn about him? This is definitely a suspenseful mystery! There is most definitely a touch of thriller to it! Read and see what happens. I will only say I never expected who was doing all the crazy stuff!

I'm not a big fan of Christian novels but this was a good one.
It was an entertaining and engrossing read that I throughly liked.
I loved the well thought cast of characters and the plot that flows with a lot of action, twists and turns.that kept me hooked till the end.
The cast of characters is well thought and they are relatable and their development is interesting.
The romance was sweet and you cannot help rooting for the characters.
The mystery is solid and the solution came as a surprise. One part of the mystery made me think that it will be a common theme to the further instalment in this series.
I recommend it to anyone interested in faith based novel and romantic suspense.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

A fun read during turbulent times. I deliberately chose this book as I wanted suspense and murder along with hint of love. With a K-9 on the cover (and my friend GIN loving dogs) I had to read this.

When a couple was murdered and a child was the lone witness, the case reminded the cops of another murder with the same M.O. twenty years ago. Nate with his K-9 partner Murphy was soon on the right track to protect the child and her aunt Willow and get to the murderer.

My first book by author Laura Scott, I relished it with a gusto. I needed a whodunit which didn't have too many gruesome scenes despite being a Copycat Killer. The author did a brilliant job in keeping my mind distracted for three hours.

There was action and suspense in the entire plot. Romance too awakened between the lead characters but you know me. I didn't read much of that. So I skipped that and went to the basic investigation. I loved the whole trope of K-9 and cop getting to the truth.

Camaderie and friendships were well shown. The writing kept me stuck to my kindle with minimal stress. Characters were dynamic, and I basically didn't want to solve anything. I just wanted to escape and live inside the book. Thanks to the talented author, I soon got back a small amount of my sanity with this pre-midnight read.

A fun murder mystery.

Willow's is working on best to keep her niece safe after she just witnessed a murder. Detective Nate is on the case which seems awfully like a cold case 20 years ago to the day. Nate is trying to keep his distance from the two but its having a hard time not falling for Willow. As he works on keeping the two safe as he tries to find the killer.

I loved this book it was fast paced and stuff goes down from the beginning of the book that you just have to see what happens next. I loved that there was so much going on to keep be busy and stuck reading the book. I though it was interesting seeing how the K-9 did his part helping with the case trying to sniff out clues to helping Nate get closer to finding out who is behind the murder and such. Overall it was a pretty great book I really enjoyed it and recommend you lovely readers to check it out.
