Another "can't put this book down" by Michael Connelly. Nice original plot line.
Moves the reader through "real time" steps in solving a horrific crime.
Always look forward to a new book by this author. Don't miss out on this one.

I really liked this book. I love Harry Bosch but sometimes it's nice to catch up with Jack.

A woman that Jack had a one night stand with turns up dead a year later. He had met her at the same bar where she was seen the night she was murdered.

Jack, now a reporter for Fair Warning, a consumer protection website, contacts her friend and her mother to find out more about what happened. The cause of her murder was very rare and unique so he posts to a website devoted to coroners asking if they had any cases with this type of death. The answer is yes. All of the women killed had sent their DNA into a company that searches for matches. He then finds that the company that these women used, then sell their DNA off to other labs for research. Rachel Walling makes a return appearance, which is always good.

I found this to be a highly original plot. And who knew that the FDA rules on DNA collection from private companies is virtually non-existent.

I am a huge Michael Connelly fan. He’s easily in my top 5 authors in the game today and by far the best police- procedural mystery writer.
I enjoyed the previous Jack McEvoy novels, though I’d rather read the latest in Harry or Haller or Ballard entry first. But that’s just one man’s opinion, based mainly on my preference for legal and crime thrillers.
The McEvoy series is entertaining, but I don’t get excited for a newspaper reporter angle. Nor do I especially enjoy serial killer thrillers. Authors are so rarely able to bring something new to the genre. Loving MC as I do, I hoped he’d be one of the few who could. Unfortunately for me, this didn’t end up the case.
Fair Warning is a perfectly competent thriller and is a great story to take your mind off of things going on in the real world. It is not, however, one of Connelly’s best. And while I appreciate him rotating his character’s novels like this, I’d rather have gotten a new Haller or a new Ballard instead. It felt more like a James Pattern story than what I’ve come to expect from one of the greats.

Thank you Michael Connelly - Fair Warning is right up there with your best Bosch and Haller. Makes me want to go back and re-read the other two McEvoy books but the point is even if you are not a Connelly addict, Fair Warning can stand alone. Yes, it does reference the previous two books but not in a manner that makes the reader feel lost or left out. On the contrary - it makes you want to read them as well. Read this in one sitting - when was the last time you did that?

This is the third novel featuring news reporter Jack McEvoy and the author, Michael Connelly continues his practice of putting Jack right into murder and attempting to unearth the killer. Action begins when Jack receives a visit from two detectives that begin questioning him about the killing of a young woman. His recollection of the girl stems from a one night stand occurring a year ago. In his reaching out to his memories of her Jack discovers three other murders that tie into that one via having sent their DNA to be tested by a small company attempting to become recognized by using low price to attract a clientele.
The murders stem from the killer's finding his victims through identifying, via their DNA, women that have the trait of allowing themselves to become victims of overbearing men. Mr. Connelly's discussions of the current state of DNA testing and it's place in police work is the highlight of the book, showcasing the prodigious amount of research into the subject and supplying easily understood explanations of what is entailed.
Jack is working for a small publishing house and in working on the murders is joined by one of his fellow employees and very neatly by an ex love of his who has been a member of the FBI. I haven't read a book by Connelly that wasn't a grabber, engrossing and keeping his readers up all night to finish the novel. "Fair Warning" is no different in scope to other similar books but I do believe that the dependence on DNA testing and explanation by the author does make the novel more enjoyable than it would be if only a story about a serial killer and how he is caught.
The author enjoys a wide background and the publication of many books so that it is a sure thing we will enjoy his next work when published.

Absolutely un-put-downable! Michael Connelly is an amazing storyteller and this book is no exception. I read this in two sittings...could not wait to continue reading. I love that Jack McEvoy has made a return. I so enjoyed reading The Poet and The Scarecrow. I hope we see more of Jack and Rachel and their new line of work in the near future. Fantastic book that I have already recommended to many! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

A new Michael Connelly is a reason to rejoice, and so nice to see Jack and Rachel back to fight the fight. Totally enjoyable, and suspenseful as ever, and a great summer beach read. Onto another deserved slot on the List.

Michael Connelly newest novel Fair Warning. The main character is Jack McEvoy a reporter who works for FairWarning but wants to do more articles that involve real news reporting or solving crimes. He gets involved in searching for a mass murderer and is almost killed by the end of the book. There is lots of action as Jack tries to find the killer responsibe to killing young women by breaking their necks. As I ws reading the book I kept thinking this plot would be a wonderful horrer movie. The action and characters are prefect for this.

When journalist Jack McEvoy finds himself a person of interest in the gruesome murder of casual acquaintance Tina Portrero, he uncovers a pattern in similar homicides across the country and goes on the hunt (and becomes hunted by) the mysterious serial killer who calls himself the Shrike.

I really needed Michael Connelly to take me away from the Covid-19 crisis, and he came through. This is an exciting novel that combines mystery and modern genetic research. Such a brilliant plot, and very scary. With so many people going for gene testing, Connelly gives it a very frightening spin.

The protagonist is Jack McAvoy who makes the connection between genetic research and murder. Really hard to put this down. As a long time Connelly fan, this was a change from his other series, but a very positive one. Welcome Jack!

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

The very first book I read by Michael Connelly was "The Poet" and I was hooked. Not necessarily for the Harry Bosch character but I did enjoy this limited series. I was totally surprised to see another entry that is long overdue.

This story evolves around the murder of a young woman reporter Jack McEvoy dated once a year ago. Finding himself a possible suspect for that reason only, he decided to dwell deeper into her background. What he uncovers will make you think twice about submitting your DNA to these prevalent testing sites that promise to tell you everything you need to know about your hereditary background.

The middle of the book slowed down a little bit as Jack wrestles with his conscience about the story being more important then the people involved and this inner conflict causes him more trouble than its worth.

The ending more then makes up for some slow spots and boy is it something! I can't wait for the next in this series. It's obvious more is to come.

Highly recommended!
