I WANT JAKE'S SNAKE!!

Errr... I mean Jake the Snake!

I'm totally bingeing on Black Knights Inc. and I can't think of a better way to be spending my week. I must say I've put reading Julie Ann Walker's motorcycle riding crew for so long because... I don't really remember... but now that I'm on it, I can't really let go! And Jake the Snake as Chris Hemsworth?! Squee! It can't get better than that!

Tell me, what size mus a guy's balls be in order to walk up to his former commandin' officer and declare his intent to play his flag, so to speak,, in the man's baby sister? Texas-sized, maybe? Alaska-sized?

We first meet Frank's sister, Michelle Knight-Carter, in In Rides Trouble and my first impression of her is she's this super sweet, sensible, devoted sister and widowed, single mom. Then at the end of Black Knights Inc. 3 that little illusion shattered after I met Jake "The Snake" Sommers. I knew that things are about to get interesting but I didn't expect that it'll be super emotional and heart-pounding suspenseful! The short of the story is someone put a hit on all the Knights, including their families, and while they're trying to keep everyone safe, Michelle and Jake are trying to work out their unfinished relationship too. So the adrenaline was very high, alternating from life-threatening situations to uber sexy scenes between the two.

Before I started REV IT UP I skimmed my buddy Neyra of Darkest Addictions Goodreads review and I was a little apprehensive reading the story because of the comments she made about Michelle. But then I thought heck, this just made things more intriguing because I can't reconcile sweet Michelle to this vicious bitch people are making her out to be... and to an extent I have to agree that what she did was Cold with a capital C! I do understand why she did what she did but it was low and I'm sure if she really want that secret to be known to Jake, she could've tried harder but instead she hid behind these seemingly air-tight excuses which really broke mine and Jake's heart! I know I'm talking riddles here but as I don't want to spoil the story, just know that Michelle isn't as sweet and honest as I made her out to be. At one point I actually thought her to be cowardly and very selfish.

Which leads me to making a play for Jake and his Snake[s] (he's got viper tattoos running on both biceps)! When the big reveal happened, I wanted to take him in my arms and offer the soft and warm comfort of my bosom... err embrace... to calm him down and shush his aching heart. Jake is a tough cookie but he's a softie too. He tortured himself for years, feeling guilty and torn over the death of his friend and Michelle's deceased husband, Preacher, and his undying love for the girl. Denying and trying to escape the inevitable, Jake was put through the emotional wringer until he realized it's time to mate, mark and claim Michelle. The entire process of getting her back was far from easy because Michelle has some personal hang-ups about men and relationships so it's like trying to break the darn Berlin Wall all over again!

The chemistry simmering between those two was enough to make a smart girl reach for a hazmat suit because, wow, an explosion of epic proportions was imminent.

Obviously the couple still had their HEA but only after such a gut-wrenching series of events starting with BKI being a target, Michelle and Jake's inopportune reunion, the big reveal and the confrontation between Jake and their would-be assassin. The build-up leading towards the conflict-resolution was executed well which, IMHO, heightened the need and want for a happy ending. By that time I was so caught up in the story, gripping my ereader, praying that I get to the cheesy, mushy part already because I want Jake to be happy!

REV IT UP is where we also get to see glimpses of Rock and Vanessa's story which is featured in Thrill Ride, Black Knights Inc. 4 (review coming up tomorrow!) which somehow made REV IT UP a split-novel about an ongoing and upcoming romance between two couples. We also see how blissful Becky and Frank are however Ghost and Ali are still MIA. So there's a good consistency with the stories series-wise and it's fun seeing previous characters and couples mentioned and making appearances. Keeps things jumping and far from stagnating.

"I'm more than happy to be pulling surveillance duty in the condo across the river if it means I don't have to watch you two constantly making googly eyes at each other. I think I might puke." [Bill to Beck and Frank]

Now I'm off to Thrill Ride as REV IT UP really left me revved up for more of JAWalker's storytelling. One can never go wrong with hot, capable and emotionally available men.
