I didn't realize this would have such a cute, magical bent. The idea of a long time but not sure couple given quite the curve ball was very well done.

Thank you for the copy of A Happy Catastrophe. I was intrigued by the cover and synopsis for this one. I tried to pick it up a few times, but I was not able to connect with the story line and characters.

Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I'm sure that others will like it and I have seen several favorable reviews for it. Thank you again for the opportunity to read A Happy Catastrophe.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for my copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I will not be sharing my thoughts/reviews outside of Netgalley in a review

Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this early. I have never read anything by this author so i was excited when I was granted access. Sadly when I requested this one I didnt realize it was the second in a series. BUT I ended up reading the first one and really enjoying it and am happy to say i enjoyed this one too!

Loved being back in this world with Marnie, and enjoyed getting a glimpse into Patrick's mind this time too. Especially during 2020 this book felt like a much needed warm hug.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.

As a fan of Dawson's first book, I was excited for the sequel.. While I did enjoy it, it didn't' quite live up to my expectations.

Overall, the story arc is sweet, but many of the extra characters don't make a lot of sense. For example, Marnie's Mom and her arc seem a bit unrealistic to me. Additionally, Patrick's issues are likely to be unresolved without therapy, rather than a sudden epiphany, but maybe that's just me. The ending and resolution are certainly predictable, while still enjoyable.

For those that haven't read the first book, I think it certainly enhances the experience. However, if it's been a while, the author does a good job of explaining what happened in the first book when necessary.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were quirky and sweet. I simply adored Fritzie and all that she brought into the novel. I was routing for Patrick and Marnie the whole time, and all that they went through made me so happy at the end. I did get frustrated with Patrick's behaviour and moods about halfway through the book. I wanted to give him a shove toward the right direction of Marnie and to get his head out of the bad place it was in. I didn't realize when I started this book that I should have read the first in the series beforehand, but I don't feel that it ruined it for me. It could act as a stand alone book. But I do have Matchmaking for Beginners on my kindle so I will be reading that shortly!

I'd like to thank the publishers via NetGalley for this ARC for my honest review.

I was just in love with the previous book I. This series and was delighted to have received N advance copy of this one. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. This one lacked substance and didn’t have the quirkiness and spark of the previous. The characters were cutouts and the book feels more commercial- as if written for the masses, rather than true to the author’s way. There are some fun parts and I like Daws as an author. I’ll definitely continue to read her work.

I received this one to review, and then realized I hadn't read the first book, and I am SO glad that I got to read them both! Matchmaking for Beginners had been sitting on my shelf dying to be read for too long, I was SO thrilled to get to read A Happy Catastrophe since it brings back many of the characters I fell in love with in the first book, centered on Marnie & Patrick.

It would be great as a stand-alone title as well, but having read the first one and absolutley loving it, I'm glad I chose to wait until I had read it. What I loved most about this book is the idea behind the universe having all the answers, that sometimes what we don’t want, or weren’t looking for can be everything. Fritzie was the perfect addition to this charming cast of characters, and I loved what she added to the relationship.

Pick this one up if you’re a believer in the universe, if you fall in love with love & cheer on the underdog!

Marnie MacGraw is sunshine and rainbows while Patrick Delaney is gloomy and rainy. She makes love stories happen and he doesn't even believe in love. They are totally opposite yet somehow they found love in each other. And now Marine wants baby but Patrick doesn't even like the idea of having a child. Then comes Fritzie cartwheeling, screaming, chasing and changing everything in their lives. Eight year old Fritzie is Patrick's daughter. But while Marnie wants to accept and embrace this new change Patrick shuts himself from the world literally and metaphorically. Will Marnie wait for the love of her life or Patrick's dark clouds will destroy everything?

Review-

This book is a sequel to Matchmaking for Beginners but you can definitely read it as a standalone. Even I didn't knew about the first part and haven't read it yet.

I love the character of Marnie full of optimism, happy, cheerful, sprinkling rainbows wherever she goes. Though I agree it is quite unrealistic but then she is too lovable to deny it. While Patrick on the other side because of a traumatic incident is brooding, unhappy, unsatisfied and always gloomy with dark clouds hanging around him. These two are totally opposite yet perfect for each other.

But the most adorable and heartbreaking character is Fritzie. Author has written very beautifully and intricately about her. At times she behaves very maturely for her age but then certain action makes you realize that she is just 8 years old. In the whole book her emotions are the most complicated and depressing. Imagine if your own mother and father doesn't want you but a stranger treats you like her own daughter. My heart goes out to Fritzie and the way she handles all this is incredible.

I like the plot and the issues they tried to discussed in this book. Parenthood is not that easy as to think. But I felt along the halfway through the book they lost track. The starting is quite slow plus there are tons of characters in the start so it takes a little bit of patience to get invest into the book.

After the entry of Fritzie things start spicing up. I like how she sounds mature and childish in the same page. I hate Fritzie's mother Tessa but at the same time I understand her. What she does is cruel and you just want to slap her for that but you can't help and be empathetic towards her.

There are tons of subplots in the book. Some are good and some are just fillers but they all together provide a nice homey kind of chaos which you can't help but love.

Two things that didn't work for me was the timeline and the sudden change in Patrick behavior. Fritzie's age and Patrcik's past traumatic accident doesn't add up. And I think Patrick was borderline suffering from acute depression so how come just one incident changes it all. I understand the emotions he was going through but still I can't wrap my head around such sudden changes in one's behavior.

This book has so many stories and so many characters and each of them teaches you something valuable or gives you courage to accept your problem. If you like cute, adorable, witty, filled with unicorn sprinklers but at the same time depressing, sad and life altering emotions then go for this book. It has all everything chaotic in a fun way.

I was not able to finish this book so I do not feel that I can give an honest star rating. I remember reading the first book with these characters a while ago but I wasn't able to reconnect with them again.

I read and loved Matchmaking for Beginners (book 1 in this series) and the feelings are the same for A Happy Catastrophe. While it can be read a aa stand-alone, I think you get a better story if you read them together and in order. A Happy Catastrophe picks up a few years later with babies on Marnie’s mind. I loved seeing Marnie and Patrick grow and explore heavy feelings and issues as a couple, especially when faced with the arrival of an unexpected 8 year old child Patrick’s didn’t know he had. I adore Marnie’s quirks and good spirits and her sixth sense matchmaking is so cool. Overall a happy beautiful read with lots of depth and emotion

A sequel to Maddie Dawson’s “Matchmaking for Beginners,” this one picks up the action around 4 years after that book ended, and adds in alternating chapters from Patrick’s perspective. As the book starts, Marnie wants to have a baby but Patrick is not sure - then to his surprise a woman he had a fling with 9 years earlier shows up with the 8 year old daughter he never had. I’d say this book is a tad less charming than the first one only because Patrick is so depressed and unpleasant for much of the book that it is not that fun to spend time with his perspective, but Fritzie is a terrific character and luckily the book wraps up with a great ending. 3.75 stars, rounding up to 4.

Marnie MacGraw and Patrick Delaney have been in love for a few years now, enough to realize that they are imperfectly perfect together. Still, there are some things that maybe need a little attention. She thrives on change; he prefers stability. She sees marriage and parenthood in their future, but he can’t see beyond the shadow of an earlier tragedy. Then an eight-year-old surprise from Patrick’s past shows up on their doorstep, cartwheeling into their lives and spinning things in all directions. While it’s not exactly the change she envisioned, it looks like instant family to Marnie. But Patrick, afraid of being hurt again, retreats further into himself. Suddenly, two very different pieces of a beautiful puzzle find it harder and harder to fit. But some love stories are worth waiting for. And what’s love without a little chaos anyway? review: I read Matchmaking for Beginners (review here) in 2018 and was so happy to see there was a sequel being released! Marnie and Patrick are back and better than ever in this sequel. These two (plus the secondary characters) are ones that you can’t help but love and adore! We get a closer look at their relationship in this book and I loved how authentic it felt, flaws and all. Both Marnie and Patrick are dealing with their own issues in this book and they both felt relatable in different ways. At times I was afraid that Marnie’s positive, optimistic demeanor was no longer going to be a match for Patrick’s pessimistic and scarred lifestyle. Even though I could predict where things were heading, there were some surprises along the way and the book captivated me the entire time, much like the first novel. This book was heartwarming and so charming – definitely a cute, quick read that will leave you smiling! rating: 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️

Maddie Dawson writes a sweet and wonderful novel that is a perfect companion to her previous best-selling novel Matchmaking for Beginners. Life, love loss and family drama drive this novel of quirky characters and an entertaining and totally engaging story sprinkled with hope and magic. I'm a huge fan!

After having read Matchmaking for Begginers, I was dying to read the sequel. I still really love all the characters especially Marnie. Although she seems to have changed a little in 4 years. But who doesn’t? It definitely lived up to the first. Really happy to have read this one.

I dnf this book because I didn't care for the main characters. I tried on numerous occasions to finish the book but the main characters were very annoying and I just couldn’t understand her selfishness. I’m aware that others enjoyed this book. It just wasn’t meant for me.

I received this ARC from Netgalley for my honest review.

At first I thought that I wouldn't particularly enjoy this book but I was so wrong. It is essentially a love story but not your typical boy meets girl. Sunshine and roses There's a lot more to it than that.

This was so adorable. If you enjoyed the first book, you will enjoy this one. Her writing is beautiful, magical and heart warming. This book dives into some serious topics and gives you all the feels. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique women's fiction book.

Adorable sequel! I love these characters and want to keep coming back for more. Fritzie is a new character who is super adorable and ridiculous at the same time. Patrick needed a good shake a few times, but that's what makes him such a good character. Very much enjoyed!
