I loved this book from the first line to the end of the book. Who wouldn’t want a best friend who loves to bake? Yum! There are some great recipes included at the end of the book. The Three Musketeers are three great friends who have know each other for ever. I enjoyed both the story line and the way the characters related to each other. Who doesn’t love a man with an accent? Sit down and get comfortable and enjoy the folks in Lake Potawatomi. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

I'm always up to try a new cozy series set in my home state, and this bookish/foodie cozy was a pleasant treat. There is enough to make this a solid singular story with plenty of character development and community introductions, while still setting up some potential for future entries in the series. It made me crave kringle and I felt it got the region "right". Charming and fun!

Cancer survivor. Mystery author. Accomplished baker. I like Teddie's attitude when it comes to a few things that happen to her during the book. It will add authenticity to a future book. Teddie's mother is someone I'd like to slap. She cares too much about appearances and keeps thinking she knows best how Teddie should have handle her double mastectomy. Teddie doesn't let her mother control her actions. Bad thing is it will be awhile before we find out what happens next in Teddie's life.

A new cozy mystery series off to a great start. The mystery was really interesting and the characters were engaging. I can't wait to read more.

This is the first book I have read from this author. It is set in the town of Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin. It features baker, writer, and breast-cancer survivor Theodora St. James aka Teddie and her American Eskimo dog, Gracie.
I read Ms. Walker was from Racine, WI and started salivating at the thought of kringles and hoped Teddy would make a few, but I digress.
There is more than one murder in this story. Teddie becomes the prime suspect. So, as with many cozy mysteries, she must solve the murders to prove her innocence. She has two friends, Char and Sharon that help her. The sheriff is her friend Brady.
I enjoyed the first in the series. The secondary characters were well done. The friendship between the characters gave me a nice warm feeling. The book was easy-to-read and kept my interest - A well done first to the series. There is a bonus, there are recipes at the end of the book.
I was given an advanced reader’s copy from Netgalley. I am not required to leave a positive review.

A nice start for a new cozy series! Teddy is a recent arrival to Lake Potawatomi but she's quickly established herself as a baker and a member of the community. When she loses a scarf at a book signing by Tavish Bentley, she's catering, she doesn't expect that the next time she sees it it will have been used to kill his ex-fiance Kristi. Teddy heard Kristi arguing with someone- but who? She sets out to solve the murder, using everything she's learned as ...wait for it.. a cozy writer, She's a fun character with good depth. The mystery is twisty enough to keep you guessing. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARc. I'm eager to see how this series develops.

This is a debut novel in what promises to be a well written, interesting cozy mystery series. The main character is a mature woman who is a breast cancer survivor. After beating cancer Teddie St. John, decides that life is precious and she needs to do things that she truly loves. She started writing and has become a successful cozy mystery author who now finds herself embroiled in her own murder mystery. A woman has been strangled and the murder weapon is one of Teddie’s signature scarves. She has to figure out who the killer is or risk losing her career, her freedom or her life.
This book has the elements that cozy readers have come to expect - interesting characters, small town friendships, family, good food, a four legged companion, a little romance and of course, a murder or two to solve. It’ll be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

This book is a good start to a new series. The characters are a little quirky, and I loved the setting. Teddie is the main character. She's a cancer survivor, a baker, and a mystery writer. I enjoyed the re herrings in the book and I'll definitely be making some of the recipes..... lemon cookies, for sure.

Teddie St. John gave up her secure government job when breast cancer made her rethink her priorities. Teddie is now a cozy mystery author, baker and dog mom to her beloved Gracie in her tiny hometown of Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin. Teddie agrees to bake some Wisconsin treats for her friend Char who is hosting top-selling thriller author Tavish Bentley at her bookstore. Teddie hits it off right away with Tavish. But a sudden hot flash forces Teddie to go home for a wardrobe change and she ends up losing one of her beloved scarves. She is shocked to find Tavish's bosomy fiancee Kristi outside the bookstore, strangled with her missing scarf.
Who is trying to frame Teddie for the murder? As she and Tavish become better acquainted, a crazed stalker fan named Annabelle interrupts their dinner. Annabelle threatens Teddie again and then ends up becoming the second murder victim, strangled with another one of Teddie's distinctive scarves.
When her publisher hints that these sordid actions may result in the cancellation of her book contract, Teddie and her two Musketeer best friends (Char and Sharon) do their own sleuthing to clear her name.
This was a fun debut mystery and the Wisconsin setting was a unique one. A bunch of Wisconsin-based recipes are listed at the end of the book.
I received an eARC from Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.

An engaging and entertaining light cozy mystery. Happy to see that it is the start of a series. I look forward to reading more of Teddie and Grace's adventures. Kept me guessing until the end. Good friends, family and a smidgeon of romance all add to the tale.

Description
In this series debut for fans of Jenn McKinlay, baker Teddie St. John spends her time away from the oven writing murder mysteries. But is she herself a murderer?
Everyone in Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin, knows Teddie St. John. Tall, curly-haired Teddie is a superb baker, a bohemian bon vivant, and a mystery writer. Teddie is walking her American Eskimo dog, Gracie, when her four-legged friend finds Teddie's missing silk scarf. Only problem: the scarf is tied tightly around the neck of a beautiful blond woman, the fiancée of a touring British author. Before you can say "Wisconsin kringle," Teddie becomes a murder suspect. Everyone in town knows all too well that the distinctive scarf was hers. But there are more layers to this case than there would have been on poor Kristi's wedding cake. Tavish Bentley should be bereaved after his sweetheart's strangling. Instead, the dashing Brit takes a shine to Teddie's witty wisecracks and to-die-for cookies, and soon he's mooning over her instead of mourning his bride. That is, when he's not dodging the attentions of Annabelle, an obsessive fan who's taken to stalking him.
And when a second murder shocks the community, the plot thickens to the consistency of fondant as Teddie stands accused of not one, but two, murders. With the help of her friends Sharon and Char, can Teddie clear her name and deliver a killer's just desserts?
My Review
Murder Most Sweet by Laura Jensen Walker is the 1st book in A Bookish Baker Mystery series and is set in Wisconsin. The author did a great job in setting up this mystery and the clues where it kept you guessing until the very end. The characters were well-crafted and the narrative was visually descriptive with engaging dialogue. Teddie was a little annoying at times, but it wasn't overwhelming. Other than that, I truly enjoyed the book.
I hope to read the next addition in the series. I give this a 4 Star.

Murder Most Sweet by Laura Jensen Walker is the 1st book in A Bookish Baker Mystery series, and my first book by this author. What a great start to a new cozy mystery series. Teddie St. John is a mystery writer and excellent baker who lives in Potawatomi, Wisconsin. While walking her dog Gracie, they find a women strangled to death with Teddie's scarf. Since everyone knows the scarf is Teddie's, she becomes the prime suspect, and is determined to find the real killer. I can not wait for the next book in the series, please keep them coming. I highly recommend this book to all cozy mystery book lovers like me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the review copy of this book. I was interested in this book because I love cozy mysteries, and it is set in Wisconsin. Teddie St. John is a breast cancer survivor, local author, baking enthusiast and devoted dog mom in Lake Potawatomi, Wisconsin. When one of her best friends Char holds a book signing at her book store for bestselling author Tavish Bentley, Teddie is excited to meet a fellow author. However, things go awry when Tavish’s beautiful fiancee is found dead outside the bookstore with one of Teddie’s signature scarves wrapped around her neck. Not wanting to be known as the “author who strangles women with her scarves,” Teddie races to clear her good name with the help of Char, and bed and breakfast owner Sharon.
Little things bothered me about this book. For one, Teddie talks to herself often (inside her head) and it is denoted with italics. Also in italics, are Teddie speaking (again, inside her head) for her dog, Gracie. The result is a LOT of italic type - which can be a little overwhelming. I also found Teddie’s inner voice to be very mean to herself (true to life, but still hard to take) and quite humorous when speaking for her dog. Another thing that bothered me about the book, is that Teddie, being a cozy mystery novelist, doesn’t know much about being a cozy mystery detective. She under-utilizes her cohorts and makes bad decisions in the first half of the book.
The second half of the book was more interesting, and Teddie was smarter about her decisions (character development). I really enjoyed the interactions between the characters in the book and seeing the plot develop. Despite the little things that bothered me, I did enjoy my reading experience with this book. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys cozy mysteries.
This book’s release date is] September 8.

Great debut cozy mystery series! I really enjoyed this story. The story kept me guessing. I look forward to reading more from this author.

What a fun and enjoyable debut coming from Ms. Walker. We are introduced to a variety of characters who are all pivotal in this light and fresh whodunit. A baker. A writer. A book signing. And murder. All factors in a tale that had me immediately immersed in the drama, quickly becoming a page-turner as I had to know how this was going to end. I liked the comfortable tone and the pacing that made it easy to follow along with what the author intended. The author did a great job in setting this up with a well-baked mystery and clues that sweetened the plot to keep me glued throughout. Along the way, there were a few red herrings that kept me in the guessing game. The narrative was visually descriptive with engaging dialogue and the meals. . .oh so delightfully appetizing. I liked how the author gave us a snippet into each character’s backstory, whether they had major or minor role in the telling of this tale. This was a terrific start to this debut series, and I look forward to more adventures with Teddie and her friends.

It was a fun read but the some of the characters did get on my nerves. I really couldn't stand Teddie's mother, she was into looks too much for me. What I did like was that Teddie was a strong woman and didn't let anyone push her around. The writing was fast pace and was good quick read. I will be picking up this book as soon as it comes out.

This cozy was thoroughly enjoyable. Teddie (short for Theodora) is a cozy mystery writer with a cute little Eskimo dog. She meets a fellow author (Tavish Bentley) at a book signing. Sometime during the signing, this author's ex-fiance is murdered with Teddie's scarf. This puts Teddie on the offensive as she and Gracie (her dog) try to uncover the murderer.
This is a fun story and the characters are great. Several suspects and annoying neighbors in a small town setting. I want to read another book by Laura Jensen Walker. Such a nice escape!

I loved this book! Teddie St. John and her friends were a lot of fun to hang out with on a hot summer afternoon.
I liked that Teddie was a mature woman who had prevailed over breast cancer. Her baking was so tempting also. Now I want to bake and try kringle! Her little dog is adorable. The mystery was interesting, but I confess I figured out whodunnit long before the end of the book. That didn't stop me from wanting to finish the book and see if I had guessed correctly.
Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

First in a new series in a Bookish Baker Mystery Series. Teddie St. John is a breast cancer survivor in her early forties and is going flat chested. This is brought up several times and her Mother who is very stylish wants her to wear a bra and Teddie refuses. She is all about being herself and comfortable but wears scarves to not draw attention to her lack of chest. She has her own style and is an author of a cozy mystery series. Teddie is joining her Mother at her best friend Char’s bookstore who is hosting a book signing for best-selling author Tavish Bentley. Teddie has baked cookies for the event and hits it off immediately with Tavish who is a Colin Firth look alike. She is intrigued but just as the event starts she has a terrible hot flash (she is menopausal because of the chemo) and rushes to the rest room to cool off but gets her dress wet she needs to go home for a change, but before she can leave as she is in the stall, two women come in and have a heated discussion about Tavish and when she goes to leave she finds her scarf is missing. When she returns to the bookstore after going home to clean up and change, she finds the fiancé no really the ex-fiancé Kristi of Tavish strangled with her stolen scarf. Teddie becomes a suspect and then the fun begins. Teddie has a strong circle of friends, Char and Sharon along with Sheriff Brady but her attraction to Tavish is real but she is shocked he is attracted to her as she looks nothing like his barbie doll ex fiancé. I enjoyed this story and how the mystery was solved. Teddie is a strong heroine and is not going to give up the dream of her life after her battle with cancer. It makes her vulnerable and strong at the same time. Teddie and her Mother don’t seem to get each other but there are moments where she really does shine. The romance seems a little quick for me but they do really click. Tavish seems like a great guy who gets Teddie, so how will a small town cozy author and New York best-selling author make it work. Looking forward to the next installment. This is a winner.

This was a fun book to dive into, does make one hungry though. If you have never had a Kringle, you will want one after you read this book.
Theodora St. John, AKA Teddie, to her friends, is pursuing her dream of being a mystery writer after successfully beating breast cancer. She lives in the small town of Lake Potowomi, Wisconsin, a town of proud Danish heritage, as evidenced by all the yummy baked goods peppering the story. Her friend, Char, owns a local bookstore where famous author Tavish Bently, has come to give a book signing. Unfortunately, murder follows in his wake and the weapon of choice is Teddie's trademark scarves.
I confess I wanted to read this book because of the darling dog on the cover and I am happy to say she features prominently in the story. I very much enjoyed this cozy and the characters behind it. Teddie is a delightful protagonist and there were several parts where I definitely laughed out loud. I would most definitely want to read the next book in this series.
One thing I look for in a cozy (no spoilers) is if I can guess whodunit before the end of the book. I did with this one but I still enjoyed it enough to give it five stars. I was easily able to lose myself in the story and tag along with Teddie on her adventures. I also appreciated the literary references that are scattered throughout. Definitely a favorite to add to my cozy shelf.
